no way to send a text? - Samsung Gear S3

I can reply to texts sent on my WiFi only gear s3 but there is no app to text people? This is a huge deal to me as it was one of the #1 uses I had for my old moto 360 (at work its easier to hide a watch than a phone when texting)
Edit: figured it out. Guess it is in the phone call app. Odd that it isn't separate.

You can. Go to Messages app in the phone. It's preloaded in the watch.

I think his problem is the same as mine. with android wear you could say text so and so and it would do so, or go to the messenger app or texting app of your choice and go about it from there. With Tizen you can request with s voice to text but it says sms isnt available (wtf?), so you need to go to the contacts, search through and find the one you want and then initiate it from there

Yeah on android wear I had dextree messenger. All I did was hop in the app and it had all my texts for every number on my phone shown. On the gear s3 I have to go into contacts, find the contact I want, then select text. Just seems like an individual texting app would be nice to have and I was shocked there wasn't one

S voice to text works. You can say something like "Text John Doe hello" and it'll send it. Not sure what's wrong with yours.

Again, there IS one. The app is called Messages in your watch. Are you saying you can't find that app on your watch?

I have the phone app but not the messenger app. And when you ask s voice to text someone it says SMS service is not available
To clarify I'm OK a US model of the classic

I have it on my Canadian wifi version. See pic. https://goo.gl/photos/mPP86DAgK5wzBoAD8

I have but can send sms only.. with my old LG watch r I can say "send whatsapp message Luisa hello"
This not possible in gear s3 and I think and hope Samsung can fix

thats android wear though....s voice is the abomination that further makes google now shine more than it already does
also bendez1985, what phone do you have it paired with? I am curious if it will only show for those connected to a samsung device for some reason

I don't use Whatsapp... and I actually dispute some of the info in that article (Hangouts works just as good as FB Messenger and Whatsapp from what I understand)... but I think I can clear up the confusion.
On the Gear S2 there is no Whatsapp app available to download and use. However, when you get a notification for Whatsapp on your watch you can still view the message in your notifications window and reply to the message with an emoji, a dictated reply, or a typed out message.
What it comes down to ultimately meaning, you can reply to messages, you can not initiate them.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, as I've said before, I do not use Whatsapp.

Btw: I have a S2 Classic
Has anyone noticed that sometimes when receiving an image on Whatsapp, the notification shows the image on the watch, but not always.
What gives?

For me it never shows, but the person pic profile sometimes shows, others don't
Hi,
I noticed the same thing on my gear S2, wherein the images show up sometimes but not always.. the same for the person's display picture as well..
Any fix to this??
There's a problem with the WhatsApp notifications, it only shows the last message for each person, instead of each and every message.

One can get WhatsApp notifications and even reply from Gear S2 but not start a session from Gear S2 or any gear at all. There is no app like the messenger app.

No message or email app in my app circles

Every thing I see says I should have a message and email app but I don't. I have a LG V10. Could that be the problem? I am getting notifications on a hit and miss bases.
Yes. The email and messages app is only present with a Samsung phone and the only work with the corresponding Samsung apps. You should receive notifications from Gmail or textra just fine. Maybe it helps to install Android Wear aß well.
if no message app, how to reply message? can only get notification?
Hi
I have a galaxy S5 and gear S2, but the same problem. Does it work with S5 ?
Same problems with Huawei Ascent Mate 7.
No messages and mail apps on circle.
But when notifications come, you can reply, or show the messages lists easily by pressing reply. Same if you use Textra, GoSms, Whatsapp.....
Same here with Huawei mediapad x2. But I can still write message to someone by browsing to their number on Buddies app

Same problem on Nexus 6
Got no email or message app in the circle. can send messages from buddy screen but not receiving ANY notifications.
Not getting anything from GMail, Yahoo Mail, Whatsapp or hangouts. Is the Gear S2 better suited to Samsung phone? if so might have to consider sending back for refund.
Any ideas how to get notifications for ANY Apps
?

In Samsung Gear Manager there is Notifications (2nd option). In there you find a list of apps for which you have enabled notifications.

Guys i answer tour questions because i try to use my s2 classic with a samsung s4 and with lg g3 ; every time that the s2 is paried with a new smartphone (samsung or not), you must do the restoration of data (partial or total) . If you pair with a samsung galaxy the sms will be upload , with an other the app will be not upload . The same thing with other app or options . The solution ? Buy a galaxy used only for these like me ?

Solution :
1try the restoration of the gear to factory data and look if there will be sms app
2 are you really sure that your s5 is original and with same specifics of your country?

No option to answer WhatsApp message

When I receive a WhatsApp message, I can see the message and read it,
but I cant reply to it vwith the Gear S2, it only shows me the option "open on phone"
Does any one know if this is a bug or is it because I dont have a Samsung phone?
It is not a bug. Even witch Samsung phone it is not straightforward.
Look at the app Chat Hub, it does allow you to answer WhatsApp and other social services. It is not free though...

So the only way to get it work without a Samsung Smartphone is to download that App?
The most recent Whatsapp update did something to gear s2. Now I don't see the "read more" icon. Sigh..
That's more than Handcent will do. If I get a message in handcent, the watch just displays a message to check phone. Doesn't show the message, or who its from or give us a way to reply to it. I've written to handcent and they have completely ignored me. I have since quit using handcent and went back to the stock messaging app.

Text on watch using Hangouts instead of Gear Messages app

Has anyone been able to start a text message on the watch using Hangouts instead of the default watch app for messaging? I use Google voice so need to use hangouts for all texting.
I know I can rely to hangouts messages received on the watch... But can't initiate new texts on the watch. Any message started with watches messenger app results in failed send.
When I get a Hangouts notification on my S3 - I can push the reply button but then it doesn't give me a keyboard to actually type in a reply - it just goes away
Try installing Android wear app if you haven't already. Seems there might be a dependency.

It is not Android Wear OS, it is Tizen OS.
So nope.
There is a strange effect, where people have found that installing the Android Wear app on their phone and launching it once and then just hitting home to leave it, helps with using Hangouts on the S3. Strange, but has been reported here.

I started using the Blackberry Hub app and this allows me to see messages from Google Hangouts on the new Samsung Watch. It also allows me to reply from it. You don't need to install anything on your watch. Blackberry Hub is $1 a month after 30 day trial but I think is worth it until Samsung comes up with a native way to push the notification.
-EDIT: sorry I think this is what you were looking for, should had read it better first.
they are def right. download android wear on your phone and just open it up. dont even need to set anything up. just close it after it opens. i can reply to hangouts no problem ever since i read and did that a while back.

Question Which Texting App?

Which texting app are folks using that has both a phone app AND the matching Wear OS app?
I am on Verizon and use their Messages+ app, and it works great with the Watch 4. (I realize that this is not much help to people not on that phone network).
I immediately switched to Google messages from Samsung
I tried Google Messages and move back to Samsung Messages... Samsung messages works great with Microsoft Windows Your Phone and works great with Samsung Dex.
The downside for me is that I with Bell and they do not support RCS on Samsung Messages. Google messages RCS work with Bell.
Went with Google Messages...
Using Textra on my phone. Works fine through watch. I can reply to texts, etc. I can also look at pictures which have been text to me. There is no Textra app on my watch though. Not sure how this works. I have never sent a text from my watch which was not a reply (and I have never had the desire to do this).

Yeah, that's the thing: you can't initiate a text unless your watch and phone use the same "companion" app. Textra is still my favorite, but I went back to Handcent/Next SMS so I could have this function. One of the reasons for getting the Watch 4 was to be independent of the phone if necessary. FWIW, I talked with Jason at Textra and he said they are thinking about developing the watch app.
Thanks for your reply!

That is not true at all. I use only Textra and it is the default texting app on the phone. I just sent a text originating from my non-LTE watch (not a reply). I selected a contact from the watch and clicked on the text icon and the thread appears and I can compose a message. No companion app needed.
Can you explain your reasoning in more detail?

I don't know if it makes any difference, but mine is an LTE watch. Anyway, when I tried to use the default (Samsung) app on the watch to initiate a new text, it told me I had to first make Samsung messaging the default messaging app on my phone.

That could be the difference. Perhaps on the LTE version, it needs a stand-alone/companion app loaded on the watch and the non-LTE version does not. No way I can verify that.
