Hello, first of all, forgive me if I'm in the wrong forum section; I'm sorta new here, and this is my first topic.
Second of all, I'm not an experienced android programmer and I'm also a teenager, so sorry if I sound like a noob; dont expect me to know all that you guys suggest. Also I have some basic experience with Java coding. (sorry if this is all off-topic but just giving a heads-up and letting you know so that you can maybe change your answers a bit so I can understand)
But ANYWAY, what I'm trying to do this for is to eventually port cyanogenmod to my device.
I currently cannot post links because I'm new here; look up "building android from source", and it should say "Getting Started: building android from source" at the fifth link from the top (xda-university).
I'm stuck at "installing repo and syncing".
What url should I put in "URL to android manifest"? (And yes, I am using Terminal in an Ubuntu VM) And now that I think of it, it should be some link of cyanogenmod but my device isn't supported; no repository for my phone. Correct me if I'm wrong. If it helps, my phone is a Samsung Galaxy Admire 4G (SCH-R820).
Again, sorry if I sound like such a noob, it's probably because I am.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!
EDIT: Sorry, just found out I was in the wrong forum section, can someone delete this thread or show me how to do so? thanks...

IS there a chance to make a section for Android for the phones. Cause like the Kaiser. We all trying to get Android to work coreectly. But were posting everything in 1 smaal thread. If we had a section it would be easier.
So could you guys make a Android section for everyphone (what can use Android)
Thx.
atleast tell me if an admin has seen this.
Hey,
I'm not really new to this forum but I was only a quiet reader and no great "poster". So I wasn't allowed to post in the development section. (I also don't wanted to post some useless spam only to get those 10 Posts, Would there be any other way to enable this for me?).
My Problem:
I configured a Mercurial Repository (hosted by Bitbucket) and uploaded an Android Project from my netbook. Everything worked (and works) fine so far (I'm able to Commit&Push changes).
But as I try to clone/import the repository on my other Computer, Eclipse doesn't recognizes my Project as an Android Project and that "Convert to Android Project" doesnt't work. (Using Ubuntu 10.10)
So, I guess there are a couple of great devs out there in this forum, that have experience with how to import an Mercurial-hosted Android Project into your workspace. Please help me
Greetings,
Ansgar
P.S. Sorry if I posted in wrong category or did some spelling mistakes (I'm an 16-year-old German boy).
Sorry for disturbing you guys.
Figured out which files to ignore and which not. Will post the .hgignore tomorrow in case someone finds this thread by searching.

Hey All! I have been lurking around the forums and reading intensively on how to create a ROM but all I get usually is moreso on how to modify an existing rom, not actually create one from scratch, the steps involved in creating one, either from a Download of the base rom (un-rooted ) or pulling files off the phone itself via (adb pull /system )
If you know of any good info that may be of use to me please feel free to post a link! Any help would be appreciated!
**I currently have/use the Samsung Galaxy Prevail (SPH-M820 ) boostMobile, so anything directly related would be appreciated**
Thankx!
This is the very core of it!
Android source
You will be able to download compile and build a ROM, although, all of those threads on modifying ROM's will then come in handy because you are going to have a lot of tweaking as well.
If you are interested in Cyanogenmod source have a look HERE
Also check out the Chef Central section subforum Android. Lots of good stuff there.
imheroldman - Thanks I appreciate the links! , and those are some I have NOT run across yet lol

bad forum
When you don't get replies, don't just say xda is a bad forum.
The forum isn't the "thing" answering, it's the users. .
Anyways, I have an answer for your problem. And I know what exactly you're talking about.
The reason your "tool" shows an error when it compiles the .apk is because you made an error somewhere in the process of editing. This happens frequently, the easiest way to figure out the cause for this error is to check the error log. It shows precisely where the issue is.
I would help you out by making it for you, but there is two reasons I cannot. One - its too late here and I can't get on my PC, and Two - If we do it, you don't learn anything if you're building or cooking roms.
So what I would like you to do is, get a log of the error you're getting and perhaps I, or someone else could help you.
Also you can "bump" up your thread, read the stickies for rules on this. It'll help. Bumping the thread pushes the thread near the top of list so people see it. You already did this. But in a slightly different way.

Greetings All
Hope everyone is well.
My question is: what is a good website for learning the Android operating system online?
The reason I ask this is my searches turn up websites for writing apps to operate within the Android environment. Or how to replace accidentally wiped OS on users devices.
I want to be able to go inside the operating system and add/remove code, modify things, and investigate for things like carrierIQ etc.
Can someone please point me in a good direction (other than learning Java language)? Thanks in advance-
GD
PS my apologies if this is in the wrong forum etc
Anyone??
Ive been searching so Im not asking anyone to do my work for me. But if you know of good sites with tutorials re the android operating system please contribute-

XDA is the right place , look at those sections:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/u/app-design
https://forum.xda-developers.com/coding
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help
(Next time ask questions there ^^^)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/about-xda
(To learn how to ask and search here , as well as a list of very useful threads)
Happy Modding
