Old news:
As you may or may not know, there is still no solution for TMO 4.4.2 KK. "We need to find a method into stock recovery interface or a way to force update.zip install. The KK update doesn't allow you to use "adb reboot recovery" to drop into stock recovery. So ioroot25 will not work on TMO KK devices UNLESS someone finds another way to adb sideload on stock recovery."
We need everyone to try and join together to try and get into the stock recovery for the 4.4 official update, as of this point we are unable to root and flash recovery without having to downgrade.
Try booting your phone with key combinations, fingers on screen, everything you can think of to get into the recovery.
Maybe a tap code?
Please discuss here and give any ideas/solutions you may have found.:good:

Looking forward to seeing some progress on this. Between having constant freezing and SODs on ASOP or white lines on stock I can't wait to see root and recovery on 4.4 for T-mo. :good:
Me too. Hopefully it'll be some day soon.

I've only had this phone a week and I'm itching to get rooted and ROM'd. My favorite ROM from the HTC Rezound, Tachyon, is in the works for a G2 port.

Totally agree with this. Having owned multiple Samsung phones before the G2, this is the first time I actually find myself enjoying a stock ROM. With that said, definitely need root.

I 100% agree. I've had an s2, s3, my girl has an s4 that I've played with, and I just got the g2 over the s4. The stock ROM on the g2 is very clean and customizable. I've grown tired of touchwiz. I'm really just wanting to root this to play with some kernel settings and governors. With this, that's all I need.

Tried to date:
From powered down state:
- Power + UP == download mode
- Power + DOWN == momentary (less than 1 second) recovery
I scripted adb to just retry like a mad fiend while getting into recovery, but no dice. I've got a friend with a USB protocol analyzer; I'm contemplating bugging him to see if the USB port even shows signs of life during the brief recovery phase.
Planned:
- strip out the recovery and start looking at it. We know that there's *some* logic in it, so the only real question is what on earth T-Mo has chosen to do with this thing.
Could TMo be using some kind of proprietary flash software through download mode like Samsung's Odin?

Can you elaborate on this? What technique are you using with the buttons to get these results? I have never seen anyone claim to get your results from the posted button combinations.
The technique generally used on the G2 is:
1. Press and hold the button combination from powered down state.
2. Wait for LG logo and release buttons.
3. While still on LG logo, press and hold them again.
Using this technique I get :
- Power + DOWN == reset phone menu
- Power + UP == boots normally
Are you doing the same and getting your results?

... Well, crap, that'll teach me to write things after 2 days without sleep. Bleh, I'm sorry.
Up, then power, wait until LG screen & release power == normal boot [Changed between 4.4 & stock 4.2 -- recovery gone in 4.4]
Up, then USB plugin == download mode
Down, then power, wait until LG screen & release power == reset menu [Changed between 4.4 & stock 4.2 -- new UI]
Down, then USB plugin == battery charge display.
Up+down+power, wait until LG screen & release power == normal boot
Up + down + USB plugin == battery charge display.
Enable developer mode, force reboot to recovery via adb reboot recovery == recovery flashes on screen for a moment, then goes to normal boot.
Download mode is always useful w/ the LG SW (I'm sorely tempted to sniff the protocol and see if it would be easy to write a tool for it, but that's down the road.)
The combination of #3 & #1 demonstrates to my mind that somebody intentionally obfuscated access (at best) to recovery mode. Given the customizations apparently needed for WiFi calling, and that this hasn't been done for other carriers who have updated to 4.4, I strongly suspect that this was either done by a SW developer at T-Mobile, or done by LG at T-Mobile's demand.
The fact that we can boot into recovery, albeit briefly, indicates to me that there may still be a lever to crack that door back open. I really don't feel like reading through too many ARM7 instructions; I suspect I'd have to get a lot more irritated about this before I'm willing to do that -- and even if I did, studying the code at that level isn't exactly a small task.
Going forward, here's what I'm considering:
We should ID whether it was the 10g update, or the 4.4 update that brought this change to the recovery's behavior. (Can anybody else confirm this? I actually got two separate updates to go from the stock 4.2 firmware to 4.4; the first one was only the 10c -> 10g update, but I didn't think at the time to check for recovery.)
Stripping apart whichever package brought the recovery change and searching through it to see if there's anything interesting.

That appears to be what they're doing. I don't have a link at the moment, but if you search for LG's FW update tools, you'll find links to their tools and some sort of workaround to prevent them from talking to LG's servers.
If anybody else has access to a USB sniffer / analyzer, and the time to look into it, this would be a vector to check. LG has already demonstrated that it's possible [with some currently unknown communication protocol] to remotely flash arbitrary code to the device. IF they haven't gone out of their way to prevent it, we may be able to describe the protocol and write our own tools that do the same thing.
Top notch info right there, thanks.

I extracted the strings from the kk recovery image and was searching for certain words. I did find a "sideload" string in the recovery image. ADB sideload is the only thing I can think of that would be needed in recovery mode. I think the capability is there.

I'm a noob, but I've searched for hours. I've not found an answer to my problem, here or else-where.
I just got my TF300T yesterday, came by Fed-ex. I got it at lunch, booted it up and connected to my WiFi so it would download any updates before I got home from work. I left it on it's charger.
I came home, it prompted me to install JB. This is my first android, I assumed that it must be a good thing so I let it install. BAD IDEA! It did the regular loading bar animation for a few minutes before I got what I call the "dead-droid" (see my avatar). It then rebooted and is now stuck on the ASUS loading screen.
I called tech support, they had me try and power off the device, it turns right back on. So in the small window of being off I managed to hold the vol down + power button and get to a screen to "wipe-data". The other option was "android" or in the first 5sec I could pick "RCK". I tried all 3 with tech support and no luck. They now want me to pay for shipping to RMA.
The company I bought it from, through my work, only accepts returns that are unopened. The squaretrade warranty doesn't apply to software issues.
I really wanted to leave this stock and just use it "as is" but if I have to pay to use my asus warranty then I'll try anything. I'm a smart guy, I install internet and VOIP (commercial work with Key, PRI's, etc). I'm sure if somebody gave me a walk-through of some kind I could get through it. I've found tons of guides but they all talk about first unlocking the bootloader. Well, I can not do that at this time.
Yes, I saw the other thread here about the boot-logo but his has "unlocked" in the top-left. Mine is NOT.
So what are my options?
P.S.~ Sorry being long-winded but the noob video said to give every detail I could. And yes, let me me say it again ... "I USED THE SEARCH" thank you
You remember when you were a kid and found out Santa wasn't real? That's where I'm at right now ...

The drivers have nothing to do with getting the USB Icon on the tablet. How should any driver for windows could do something on the Pad???
If you are not able to get to the Icons on your Pad with pressing Vol- and Power at the same time your Pad is bricked.

I see what you're saying, my thought was that sort of like hooking a phone (my feature-flip-phone) to a PC, I had to get the drivers on my PC in order for the phone to go to USB Mass Storage, which then automatically popped up. I suppose I though that if the PC can't see the tablet the tablet can't see the PC. So I was wrong
I can get to the icon screen with Wipe-Data and the droid image, but those are the only 2 options I have besides hitting vol - up in the first 5sec for RCK?
Should there be a USB icon there regardless of being hooked to my computer?
Yes, if you're unlocked there should be the USB icon. If not send it to Asus.

SUBJECT CHANGE- Should I just keep ICS? What is the consensus? Is it even worth changing to JB yet when I get it back?
Do I even have the choice or will they put JB on it?
If you unlock the bootloader and install recovery. You can keep from taking an update. It seams to be mixed on the jellybean issue.
I took the plunge and everything is good. Forced to only run stock jellybean based roms until the new bootloader is figure out.
All I can tell you is look at all the options. Hopefully the one they send you has ICS

As long as you read the threads good and follow the instructions you will be fine. I was worried with my first device.
I read everything 2 or 3 times. Had all the fiiles, tools and threads bookmarked. If i had a problem, i was prepared to fix it, even though I had no idea what I was doing.
Now that I have done a few, I am confident that if I have a problem, there will be a fix.

Don't be discouraged! Just take your time and take one step a time. When you need help search, then ask. Every will begin to make sense.
I am JB but wish I had stayed ICS for NVFlash. With NVFlash you are much more likely to recover from most things. I don't have issues with JB, I'd like the safe blanket NVFlash provides.

General Info
Hello all. I had some cm code lying around a couple months ago, so decided to try to compile twrp for the desire. I ended up failing miserably, however what i got out of this was a decently working build of ClockworkMod touch. All credits go to Koush and the rest of cm team who worked on originally creating cwm. All i did was compile it using the latest code (at the time) and run it through the cm jenkins build server to get the touch functionality. It honestly wasnt very hard, so dont thank me too much Anyways, this probably wont be the most popular due to the fact that 4ext seems to be the go-to recovery for the desire, but i thought I'd share anyways rather than leaving it on my desktop for the rest of eternity. Some people might actually like it as afaik the latest available version for the desire is 5.8.0.2 (feel free to correct me if im wrong) so this is a pretty nice upgrade i guess. Enjoy
Downloads
CWM Touch 6.0.3.5

-Mediafire
-md5 checksum: dc4a4067ae7fc8456034293cad5cc76a
CWM 6.0.4.5 with Touch Swipe Controls

Bugs
-When you boot into it, you get a message saying "Warning: no file_contexts" for a couple of seconds before the recovery menu comes up. This seems to be harmless.
-Let me know if you find anything else
Instructions
1. Setup fastboot and install these drivers.
2. Download the provided recovery.img file and put it on your desktop. Check that the md5 checksum is correct.
3. Turn your phone off. Boot it into fastboot using back button + power button, then plug it into your computer. On your phone it should now say "FASTBOOT USB".
4. Open command prompt and enter the following commands:
Code:
fastboot devices
If your phone (serial number) shows up continue. If not, it means that your drivers aren't installed correctly and your computer cannot recognize the phone. Do not continue until you are able to get fastboot devices to return the serial number of your phone.
Code:
cd Desktop
Code:
fastboot flash recovery FilenameOfRecovery.img
After the installation is finished, proceed to the next step. (it should only take a few seconds to install)
5. Unplug the phone, and go back into the bootloader. From there you can scroll down to RECOVERY, and boot into it.
Thats great
I think it was possible to create spare backups (or whatrver its called, it just backups changed files) with that version, right?
I will try it later @home.

Aww thats unfortunate. I thought i read somewhere that with the next generation of 4ext there would be plans to add support for newer devices such as the n4, but the developer seems to have slowed down.
I just realized that this actually has a decent amount of downloads considering how dead this thread is.

V6.0.3.5 was fine, but V6.0.4.5 was not that great, you must select options and zips with trackpad, I always felt like I'm working with amon ra recovery or rmd recovery. CWm recovery was normal, but for having more features, I prefer 4ext recovery, rmd recovery (to flash hboot and other images through recovery that is very useful) and twrp, that is very easy to use. I found a bug (I think) in V6.0.4.5 that was unable to detect and wipe sd-ext.(error: something like wrong path(sd-ext). One error that is annoying in trwp (maybe only for me) is that it hasn't the yes or no feature. For example: wifix, that when you want to flash, you don't see the option to choose yes or no. By the way, thank you chromium. Very good effort.

Hello guys, with this guide you can restore Stock Firmware Images for all Galaxy Tab 4 Series.
This is useful to restore firmware in case something goes wrong, if you flash a custom ROM and it fails, or, for example, if Samsung decides to update this devices to Lollipop. For this you also will need stock untouched firmware.
Pre-requisites:
1) Make a backup of everything you consider important: Apps, photos, music, etc.
2) Download drivers for your specific device from HERE, install the drivers and reboot your PC to apply changes.
3) Download Odin 3.0.9, it is attached below in this post, and extract it.
4) Download the firmware image for your specific device from HERE and extraxt the file inside, it should be a huge 1GB+ size *.tar.md5 file.
5) Make sure your device's battery is at 60% or more.
6) Enable USB Debugging on Settings > General > Developer Options (If you can't find Developer Options menu, go to Settings > General > About Device and tap several times on Build Number, then it will tell you Dev Options is enabled).
Lets start:
1) Run Odin 3.09 as Administrator (in Windows right click on Odin icon and select "Run as Administrator")
2) Turn off your tablet and now turn it on in Download Mode (press Home + Volume Down + Power buttons at the same time until the tablet turns on, then when prompted, press Volume Up button to proceed)
3) Now connect your tablet to PC via USB cable. Odin should show a plugged device and an ADDED! message, like this:
If you can't get Odin to recognise your device, check which drivers you installed or try another USB cable.
4) Make sure that Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options are selected, like this:
5) Now check the AP option and press the AP button to find and select the firmware image (the *.tar.md5 file you extracted earlier), when you select the image, Odin will check if it has errors. If everything is OK, it should say it succesfully checked it, like this:
6) You are ready to rock, so, hit the START button and wait...
7) Go, watch TV, chat with friends, make a sandwich or play Chess with your cat.
8) Once completed, you will see the Pass! message in ID:COM section, with a green background. Your tablet should auto reboot automatically.
9) Unplug your tablet.
10) Enjoy all the bloatware once again!
Thanks for reading and if you have doubts, let us know in the comments.

Yes, here
Or here if you've got a 7.0
I cannot for the life of me get my tab to stay in download mode while flashing. It makes it as far as a quarter though the system partition then it just reboots back to the "firmware encountered an issue" screen. As far as I know the battery has more than enough if not a full charge!! HEEEEEEELP!!!!

Will restore of stock firmware overwrite custom recovery
Hi... just finally got my Tab 4 8.0 rooted by using custom recovery and special kernel. I love having root, but in the event i have to send the tablet in for any kind of warranty repair, i just want to know if simply ODIN flashing the stock 5.1.1 firmware will restore the stock recovery and reset my knox counter and stuff... Any details greatly appreciated!

It will definitely restore the stock recovery. Idk about resetting the flash counter, my instinct tells me no but that could be wrong. If worst comes to worst and you do have to send it in under warranty, tell them Kies broke it, that's worked for me and a few of my friends even with the knox counter tripped lmao. And if you want the quickest firmware file downloads, check out this thread. About a 5 minute download versus anywhere from 2-8 hours from any other host (seriously, it's awful).
How can I know when the flash is done?
Thank you for this helpful guide. I used this to upgrade my Samsung Tab 4 8.0 from 4.4.2 KitKat to Lollipop 5.1.1.
May I suggest, OP, adding a note on how to know when the flashing is over. I mistakenly thought that all the boxes on the top half (the row that begins with with a green "Pass" box) would all be colored. But the users should know that the flash is over when you see the green Pass box.
Please see my attached screenshot.
thanks for bringing my tablet back to life!
I played chess with my cat.... and lost. Thank you for this, my Tab has been shut away in shame for a while, and I decided to bring it back out again.

Here is much faster alternative to the current Odin Tar that is hanging around. Not to diss anyone but putting an important file on a server that makes you pay for high speed access is LAME. This took over 3 hours to download from that server...
This takes you back to: G920VVRU1AOC3, Wipes everything! Like a new phone
Here it is on AFH.com
Fast for every one!
ALL_VZW_G920VVRU1AOC3_G920VVZW1AOC3_CL4318389_QB4424773_REV02_user_low_ship.zip
Latest Odin for this file....
How to use!
Load Samsung Mobile Drivers
Connect Phone while in download mode (Hold Power, Home and Volume down to get there)
Unzip Odin to desktop
Unzip Odin Tar from post #1 to desktop
Open Odin
Select AP and load Odin Tar
Wait a few seconds (depending on PC Speed)
Hit Start then wait until its done.
Do NOT touch the phone while this is in process!
When completed phone will reboot to recovery, do some "stuff" then boot up fresh like out of the box new!

You've been around more times than the ice cream truck in the second week of July. And that's a HOT week! Lol. Thanks for all your hard work sir! Looking forward to seeing what happens and it's good to know that a lot of us here "know you" and your credibility/reputation for producing great work. Keep it up buddy! =)
Having trouble ladies and gents. Hoping for help.
I am soft-bricked ATM.
I was running fine, rooted, and have paid for Flashfire.
I downloaded our friend scrosler's flashable rom with root and I somehow soft-bricked my phone on the first try.
So....I downloaded Odin and the stock rom from this thread, even got the latest drivers just to be sure.
no matter what I do, Odin reports: "complete ( Write) operation failed." and "all threads completed, (succeed 0, failed 1)"
Have tried it multiple times, even switched to S6 factory USB cord and moved around to different prts on my system, all are motherboard driven USB ports.
Any ideas?
Cant get MD5's to match. Have downloaded multiple times, have tried multiple programs to unzip....no luck.
Never mind...was checking MD5 against unzipped file. Zipped MD5 is correct.
Going to try Odin again.
Nope.....Odin still fails.
Would love some ideas of what to try next.

I thought stock unmodified Roms/source files belonged in the general section? not really development lol

Ok, you are failing on the very first step. Make sure you dont have KIES running on your PC, make sure you are in download mode and make sure you are using factory cable.
Let us know.

Your not that guy who put the files on a server that serves 100K per second unless you pay are you? lol
PS: Why didint you ask the same question in this thread: [Root/Guide] How-to Root (Simplified)
Never had Kies on this machine. In download mode (press and hold down-vol and button at bottom of face of phone, and power).
Screen is light blue and says "Downloading..." with a big down arrow. Of course, Odin doesn't see the phone until I hit vol-up button.....and I am doing that. Factory cable. Have tried it in multiple motherboard ports....not an add-on card. I have used Odin on my S4 from this machine without problems.
Any other ideas? Thanks for trying to help me.

Can someone please help me in rooting my Nexus 5 on 6.0.1 m4b30z; the issue is that power button is not working so rooting from recovery is not possible. Looking for 1 click root option, i have tried kingroot apk but didnt worked
Reason for root is to add power options in the phone using several app so phone can be restarted when needed
PS: I believe the Bootloader is unlocked because i have seen unlock image in boot animation

I had issues with my power button too. But one can install any custom ROM, where it's possible to use the phone without touching the power button.
I've been using s-aosp n version, for almost over 3 months or so. My phone works just perfect.
I suggest you to find rom's of your interest. Good luck:good:

You can do it without power button, you know, "adb reboot recovery".

use this thread for reboot into recovery via adb, it's safest and don't try non-trusted root methods like you mentioned.
PS: don't forget to turn on adb debugging in developer menu ! (don't know how ? search )
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1853159
also for future reference, on android every command is possible via adb you just need to search for them..Google and XDA are your friend
So get familiar with basic adb there are some good guides here in Nexus 5 sticky therad as well as on general xda just search for ADB

which menu ?
just reboot into boot loader and flash TWRP & root using SuperSU then go to play store and find some app for advance reboot.

Okay here's ultimate solution for you and future similar cases...
extracted attached zip in PC.
Reboot into fast boot via adb and
double click root-windows.bat
and you are root !
now do whatever you want.
Main thread for this :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/orig-development/nexus-5-cf-auto-root-t2507211
since chinfire changed his site just today, downloads are little bit slow or down, so i took liberty to download it for you and attaching same fine in attachment so that you don't mess up while doing all this 1st time.
Cheers !
