Can someone please help me in rooting my Nexus 5 on 6.0.1 m4b30z; the issue is that power button is not working so rooting from recovery is not possible. Looking for 1 click root option, i have tried kingroot apk but didnt worked
Reason for root is to add power options in the phone using several app so phone can be restarted when needed
PS: I believe the Bootloader is unlocked because i have seen unlock image in boot animation

I had issues with my power button too. But one can install any custom ROM, where it's possible to use the phone without touching the power button.
I've been using s-aosp n version, for almost over 3 months or so. My phone works just perfect.
I suggest you to find rom's of your interest. Good luck:good:

You can do it without power button, you know, "adb reboot recovery".

use this thread for reboot into recovery via adb, it's safest and don't try non-trusted root methods like you mentioned.
PS: don't forget to turn on adb debugging in developer menu ! (don't know how ? search )
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1853159
also for future reference, on android every command is possible via adb you just need to search for them..Google and XDA are your friend
So get familiar with basic adb there are some good guides here in Nexus 5 sticky therad as well as on general xda just search for ADB

just reboot into boot loader and flash TWRP & root using SuperSU then go to play store and find some app for advance reboot.

Okay here's ultimate solution for you and future similar cases...
extracted attached zip in PC.
Reboot into fast boot via adb and
double click root-windows.bat
and you are root !
now do whatever you want.
Main thread for this :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/orig-development/nexus-5-cf-auto-root-t2507211
since chinfire changed his site just today, downloads are little bit slow or down, so i took liberty to download it for you and attaching same fine in attachment so that you don't mess up while doing all this 1st time.
Cheers !

I've tried the 3 or 4 that have been in the dev forums, all with errors and failures, and abd out of date or something.
Ive tried the one clicks

The one click root in the dev forum DOES work, and is currently the only root method for 1.85. I have used it 4 times now without issue. If you are having trouble getting it to work, ask for help in that thread, it's what it is there for.

Yes, that one. If it doesn't work you need to set your date ahead 2 days and try again, as it says in the OP. You might still get a couple errors but check to see if SuperSU is installed and check if the SU binary is installed.

Haha, i edited my previous post. It worked, thanks again lol!
You just have to keep trying and make sure that each new try you move the date up 2 days. I actually had to use the 1.85 RUU to restore my phone because of some problem that made the storage read/write speed nonexistent so the launcher wouldn't even load.
So if it continues to not work for you, maybe you just have to use the RUU to restore your phone and then try it again.

Following these directions:

It tells me to click on Unlock-Bootloader.bat, but that file isnt even included in the zip that I downloaded.
Yeah they need to update the instructions. Click spoof-cid.bat.
And you gotta stop going to these other sites for this stuff. Everything you need can be found in xda's dev section. It's where everything originates from anyways so might as well go right to the source

General Info
Hello all. I had some cm code lying around a couple months ago, so decided to try to compile twrp for the desire. I ended up failing miserably, however what i got out of this was a decently working build of ClockworkMod touch. All credits go to Koush and the rest of cm team who worked on originally creating cwm. All i did was compile it using the latest code (at the time) and run it through the cm jenkins build server to get the touch functionality. It honestly wasnt very hard, so dont thank me too much Anyways, this probably wont be the most popular due to the fact that 4ext seems to be the go-to recovery for the desire, but i thought I'd share anyways rather than leaving it on my desktop for the rest of eternity. Some people might actually like it as afaik the latest available version for the desire is 5.8.0.2 (feel free to correct me if im wrong) so this is a pretty nice upgrade i guess. Enjoy
Downloads
CWM Touch 6.0.3.5
-Dev-Host
-Mediafire
-md5 checksum: dc4a4067ae7fc8456034293cad5cc76a
CWM 6.0.4.5 with Touch Swipe Controls
-Dev-Host
-md5 checksum: e5308a41d96a4cd94c97a07ad83ed223
Bugs
-When you boot into it, you get a message saying "Warning: no file_contexts" for a couple of seconds before the recovery menu comes up. This seems to be harmless.
-Let me know if you find anything else
Instructions
1. Setup fastboot and install these drivers.
2. Download the provided recovery.img file and put it on your desktop. Check that the md5 checksum is correct.
3. Turn your phone off. Boot it into fastboot using back button + power button, then plug it into your computer. On your phone it should now say "FASTBOOT USB".
4. Open command prompt and enter the following commands:
Code:
fastboot devices
If your phone (serial number) shows up continue. If not, it means that your drivers aren't installed correctly and your computer cannot recognize the phone. Do not continue until you are able to get fastboot devices to return the serial number of your phone.
Code:
cd Desktop
Code:
fastboot flash recovery FilenameOfRecovery.img
After the installation is finished, proceed to the next step. (it should only take a few seconds to install)
5. Unplug the phone, and go back into the bootloader. From there you can scroll down to RECOVERY, and boot into it.
Thats great
I think it was possible to create spare backups (or whatrver its called, it just backups changed files) with that version, right?
I will try it later @home.

Aww thats unfortunate. I thought i read somewhere that with the next generation of 4ext there would be plans to add support for newer devices such as the n4, but the developer seems to have slowed down.
I just realized that this actually has a decent amount of downloads considering how dead this thread is.
Is anyone interested in the latest cwm (6.0.4.5) with swipe controls?

V6.0.3.5 was fine, but V6.0.4.5 was not that great, you must select options and zips with trackpad, I always felt like I'm working with amon ra recovery or rmd recovery. CWm recovery was normal, but for having more features, I prefer 4ext recovery, rmd recovery (to flash hboot and other images through recovery that is very useful) and twrp, that is very easy to use. I found a bug (I think) in V6.0.4.5 that was unable to detect and wipe sd-ext.(error: something like wrong path(sd-ext). One error that is annoying in trwp (maybe only for me) is that it hasn't the yes or no feature. For example: wifix, that when you want to flash, you don't see the option to choose yes or no. By the way, thank you chromium. Very good effort.

I know many here at XDA frown on using toolkit's, but if you having problems try
Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit. Its free and works fantastic.

It will install custom recovery. Just install the toolkit, select your phone model and let it download the needed dependency's then click the advanced button,
then look under Fastboot Flash for the recovery button and follow the prompts to install TWRP.
Best of Luck

One other thought.
Because It looks like you are doing things correctly.
Sometimes changing your USB cable to Hi quality one will help
as cables can sometimes work fine for charging but not work well for flashing.

btw i tried the Chinese method and it also said i was rooted but opening flashify said i didnt. See u suppose to give flashify root access. Also when rooting with kingo if you go into terminal and type SU it just hangs
UPDATE: i have made a mess and did something to lose root so ill be doing that today.
i have had a successful root using kingo root for pc and android. u have to download SuperUser and move a copy to /system/bin and /system/xbin. Took some playing around but was able to get ROM Manager and BusyBox to fully open without errors about su. I cant recall the exact steps i did but i do know it involved Root Browser, ES File Explorer and Explorer because i had to change permissions for SuperUser in order to move them to the ending destination. Cant remember which one accomplished it. But after getting BusyBox and Rom Manager to startup with no problems i click Fix Permissions in Rom Manager and after it fixed permissions it said to reboot and i lost root at that point. So i am going to tinker with it more and hopefully can get a proper way to do it. U also need Developer Options On with Stay Awake, Enable OEM Unlock and USB Debugging ON and root will always fail if you do not disable you windows firewall.

im trying now in several ways but im using developer options with OEM Unlock enabled to see if that does anything.
btw i tried the Chinese method and it also said i was rooted but opening flashify said i didnt. See u suppose to give flashify root access. If the Chinese way truly rooted the phone im guessing the Root prompt would appear when u open flashify where you can accept or deny flashify root access, and it doesnt. so im trying other things

I've achieved permanent root with this method, but, I'm having trouble replacing Kingo super user with SUPERSU. How were you able to do it?
Any one tried Link2SD yet since root is now working?
With this can we install custom roms? Or is that still a pipe dream right now?

Also Im having issues. Usually there is a lot more help with this. It's explained a lot better. Can someone give me the steps to root? After that Im good on my own its the rooting process that I need a helmet and a short bus for
Hey guys hope you can help with my oneplus 7 pro. So I did not backup before rooting the device, however, I was able to successfully root it. The problem arose when I wanted to take the twrp official 3.3.1-2 and upgraded to 3.3.1-29 version. I flashed it on the system image in the twrp setting, but it ended up writing over OS. Now there is no OS on the oneplus 7 pro. Do you guys have a suggestion into how I can fix this problem? and bring it back into the rooted phone. I also was hoping if you guys know anyway to lock the twrp with a password in the future? thank you
1] Your TWRP should already have had a pin if you had set a pin (same one) when using the rom
2] Can you still boot into TWRP as recovery? If so then go grab the latest 9.5.7 :
Official : https://otafsg1.h2os.com/patch/amaz...ygen_21.E.11_OTA_011_all_1906040003_25c96.zip
My mirror on AFH : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=6006931924117889610
You should be able to flash it using TWRP if you've not messed up too badly, then you may be back to default rom and can start again.
If you get that far then read the guide on the @mauronofrio TWRP properly and flash everything again. I've also uploaded a rooted 9.5.7 boot image here if you want to try that way instead :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79678478&postcount=522
If the worst comes to the worst then you may be able to boot into fastboot then run :
fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-29-guacamole.img
Boot into TWRP and try sideloading the whole 9.5.7 rom instead

You could always download one of the fastboot ROMs and flash them again. You're obviously unlocked etc so all you'd need to do is fastboot flash system system.img. just make sure it's the same version.
ok since the update I was able to get the twrp installed again, but choose a wrong option in the reboot menu, something to do with edl, now the phone turn on at all :/
I give up, apparently people just can't follow instructions.

just get out of EDL, either hold down the power button or hold - and Power for like 10 seconds until u boot out of it
Ok so I basically pressed the volume and down buttom with the power button, then the phone recovered back to the when I first got it and it got uprooted. Anyway, the whole reason I was wanted to root the phone was so that I can lock the TWRP with a password. This would only give me access to hard resetting the phone. Do any of you guys have a solution to this? its a phone for my little brother, and I want to restrict his access to the internet, but he knows how to hard reset the phone using the volume down and power. however, if I can lock the TWRP with a password he cant get around that part as easily.

You might be able to do that with a guest account but you can't lockout TWRP with a password, it will use the pin applied to the phone. If you set it up as the default user with a pin then that's the pin that will be applied to TWRP so I would look at setting him up as a guest instead which should keep him out of TWRP too.
