[Q] Brand New Brick! - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm a noob, but I've searched for hours. I've not found an answer to my problem, here or else-where.
I just got my TF300T yesterday, came by Fed-ex. I got it at lunch, booted it up and connected to my WiFi so it would download any updates before I got home from work. I left it on it's charger.
I came home, it prompted me to install JB. This is my first android, I assumed that it must be a good thing so I let it install. BAD IDEA! It did the regular loading bar animation for a few minutes before I got what I call the "dead-droid" (see my avatar). It then rebooted and is now stuck on the ASUS loading screen.
I called tech support, they had me try and power off the device, it turns right back on. So in the small window of being off I managed to hold the vol down + power button and get to a screen to "wipe-data". The other option was "android" or in the first 5sec I could pick "RCK". I tried all 3 with tech support and no luck. They now want me to pay for shipping to RMA.
The company I bought it from, through my work, only accepts returns that are unopened. The squaretrade warranty doesn't apply to software issues.
I really wanted to leave this stock and just use it "as is" but if I have to pay to use my asus warranty then I'll try anything. I'm a smart guy, I install internet and VOIP (commercial work with Key, PRI's, etc). I'm sure if somebody gave me a walk-through of some kind I could get through it. I've found tons of guides but they all talk about first unlocking the bootloader. Well, I can not do that at this time.
Yes, I saw the other thread here about the boot-logo but his has "unlocked" in the top-left. Mine is NOT.
So what are my options?
P.S.~ Sorry being long-winded but the noob video said to give every detail I could. And yes, let me me say it again ... "I USED THE SEARCH" thank you

You remember when you were a kid and found out Santa wasn't real? That's where I'm at right now ...

Maybe fastboot latest update from Asus support! http://usa.asus.com/Tablet/Transformer_Pad/ASUS_Transformer_Pad_TF300T/#download

I'm sorry, I was trying to give you a leg up. I don't own windows but guessed you probably did and that link seemed easy. I have seen the op of that link answering questions and helping others in multiple links. Maybe ask your questions on that link would bring proper results. Just remember to give the details as you did here.

Yeah, I tried that last night and it wouldn't work. Now cd c:\fastboot\ did work? Oh well, thanks again!
New issue, no USB icon on tablet in cold boot. I thought I had the drivers for the tablet, must be wrong? Or am I?

I've installed everything from ASUS that I can find, is there another way to get my PC to realize my pad is there?
I can run fastboot.exe but I have no way to talk to my tablet .... I must be doing something stupid and one of you smart people can help me

The drivers have nothing to do with getting the USB Icon on the tablet. How should any driver for windows could do something on the Pad???
If you are not able to get to the Icons on your Pad with pressing Vol- and Power at the same time your Pad is bricked.

I see what you're saying, my thought was that sort of like hooking a phone (my feature-flip-phone) to a PC, I had to get the drivers on my PC in order for the phone to go to USB Mass Storage, which then automatically popped up. I suppose I though that if the PC can't see the tablet the tablet can't see the PC. So I was wrong
I can get to the icon screen with Wipe-Data and the droid image, but those are the only 2 options I have besides hitting vol - up in the first 5sec for RCK?
Should there be a USB icon there regardless of being hooked to my computer?

Yes, if you're unlocked there should be the USB icon. If not send it to Asus.

Thanks, I'll RMA it.
SUBJECT CHANGE- Should I just keep ICS? What is the consensus? Is it even worth changing to JB yet when I get it back?
Do I even have the choice or will they put JB on it?

If you unlock the bootloader and install recovery. You can keep from taking an update. It seams to be mixed on the jellybean issue.
I took the plunge and everything is good. Forced to only run stock jellybean based roms until the new bootloader is figure out.
All I can tell you is look at all the options. Hopefully the one they send you has ICS

Unlock =/= good for me. Like I said, this was my first Android device. It bricked on a "normal" operation. Not exactly confidence-inspiring in the sense that I should unlock/root it ....

As long as you read the threads good and follow the instructions you will be fine. I was worried with my first device.
I read everything 2 or 3 times. Had all the fiiles, tools and threads bookmarked. If i had a problem, i was prepared to fix it, even though I had no idea what I was doing.
Now that I have done a few, I am confident that if I have a problem, there will be a fix.
Goood luck and enjoy the fun and freedom of android

Don't be discouraged! Just take your time and take one step a time. When you need help search, then ask. Every will begin to make sense.
I am JB but wish I had stayed ICS for NVFlash. With NVFlash you are much more likely to recover from most things. I don't have issues with JB, I'd like the safe blanket NVFlash provides.
Good Luck!

try reinstalling them through the pdanet website http://www.junefabrics.com/android/index.php
download the free version to your desktop and install, then follow the onscreen instructions. itll install the proper drivers for your phone. its possible that it wont recognize your phone though. also, did you try reformatting the phones storage? and you never answered, can you still boot into recovery?

wauw,your info was really useful.
maybe you should consider RE thinking the meaning of bricked.
you call an electronic a Brick when it's useless and cant do the things it supposed to do.
that it can turn on and show letters, doesn't exclude it from the definition bricked.
and my nexus S was useless until repairs. so yes it was a brick.
i might not have as many posts as you do. but that doesn't conclude on what level of knowledge i am. so dont even try to say im totally wrong.
next time.contribute. not the opposite.
and if you cant contribute, than dont even post irrelevant things at all.

In the strictest sense of the term, bricking must imply that software error has rendered the device completely unrecoverable without some hardware replacement.
We at XDA like to take our definitions very seriously. You had a softbrick
brick/softbrick.. it just doesnt matter because its all relative to the moment the thread was started. to the op, it was a brick when he started the thread. it later became known that the phone was softbricked, only after fixing it. whats important is that the op fixed his phone, everything else is just semantics and irrelevant. well, its irrelevant unless now this thread turned into a "define bricked" thread. then its relevant and to the point
(btw, sorry. i wasnt meaning to be an ass if i sounded like one. im just feeling a little rambunctious )

Once again:
Bricked = non-recoverable. <- notice the period
Softbricked = recoverable, software problem

at-least some one that doesn't think he's Almighty and knowing.
and being an ass about it.
and what simms22 just said.
in the start of the thread.i thought it was bricked.
but we managed to get it fixed.
though USB not working(yes the USB component of the main board)
does imply bricked. cuz it did need a replacement(though i fiddled with it and got it to work.)thats why i edited my first post.
it was part bricked, part soft bricked.
No one is implying that they are all mighty and know-it-all. We're simply saying that every time someone messes up their phone and don't know how to fix it they call it "bricked". Almost every day we see a post about a bricked phone and 99 % of them turn out to be just another newbie trying to root the device or some other mistake.

Are there any root methods that work for 1.85?

I've tried the 3 or 4 that have been in the dev forums, all with errors and failures, and abd out of date or something.
Ive tried the one clicks
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/root-htc-one-xl-att-one-x-1-85-update-with-just-one-click/
and methods from OneXRoot.com
The one click root in the dev forum DOES work, and is currently the only root method for 1.85. I have used it 4 times now without issue. If you are having trouble getting it to work, ask for help in that thread, it's what it is there for.

Yes, that one. If it doesn't work you need to set your date ahead 2 days and try again, as it says in the OP. You might still get a couple errors but check to see if SuperSU is installed and check if the SU binary is installed.

Haha, i edited my previous post. It worked, thanks again lol!
You just have to keep trying and make sure that each new try you move the date up 2 days. I actually had to use the 1.85 RUU to restore my phone because of some problem that made the storage read/write speed nonexistent so the launcher wouldn't even load.
So if it continues to not work for you, maybe you just have to use the RUU to restore your phone and then try it again.

Following these directions:

Yeah they need to update the instructions. Click spoof-cid.bat.
And you gotta stop going to these other sites for this stuff. Everything you need can be found in xda's dev section. It's where everything originates from anyways so might as well go right to the source

[Q] Beyond Fed Up-Attempt to ROOT TF700

I have never been more frustrated working with a device and don't know why, maybe I am losing my touch haha i have rooted both my S2 and now my S3 with little to no issues
About a month after I got my TF700 the performance went all to ****, so I pretty much stopped using it, now that I use ever note everyday for work and travel more I want it to work proper and not be slow like it is.
I have been TRYING to root for days now, I even tried to find someone to pay to just do it for me because I don't care about pissing around with it and no one in my city can do it for me or that I could find.
I have Unlocked via the Asus unlock tool, have read numerous threads on here and attempted to root via Scotts method, no success, it always "cant find device" same with MotoChopper, couldn't find device.
I deleted and removed all Asus drivers from my computer, and then installed the "naked" drivers found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766220
Motochopper now finds the device, starts Daemon and then just "hangs" on that screen no matter how long, and Scotts tool still cant find the device for some reason.
I have read through threads on here and am just fed up, can someone please point me in the right direction? **** I will even paypal you some money to remote in and just at-least get it working so I can root it and find a clean ROM without all the ASUS bloatware garbage.
I use about 5 apps total on this tablet and just want it to work fast and smooth for the $400 I spent on it which I know i can do if i get a new ROM.
Asus TF700T

Yes USB Debugging is Enabled
Yes Unknown sources is Enabled.
Thanks

If all fails - try the fastboot method to push TWRP 2.5 to your tablet.
Then use TWRP to install a custom rom (this way you don't have to mess with root). I would recommend CROMi-X 4.6.5, but you would have to flash the JB 4.2 bootloader first. Instructions are in the OP of the CROMi-X thread.
Download the Android SDK package, put it into the root of your C:/ drive on the computer.
Inside the folder "Platform Tools" you will find the fastboot.exe
Download the TWRP 2.5 blob and put it into the same folder as the fastboot.exe
Follow instructions here: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/93

Did you disable the Media app on your device? You could also do a factory reset to put your device back to an original stage before trying to root again.

Can you try this command: adb devices? If your computer can not see your device, you may not have the updated driver or the usb on your device is not checked.

WOW! Finally, i ran that command, and it pulled the run.exe for motochopper, i clicked it, ran it and it rooted.
finally, so bloody confusing, I still don't even know how it worked, it did not boot into the black menu or anything, it just rooted, rebooted and i just checked it via Rootchecker and it granted superuser access and verified my root.
Thanks guys! on to putting on a custom Rom
Thanks

I am glad that you got it working. You will be happy with a custom rom. One more thing, you have to ensure that you have the latest bootloader and latest recovery before flashing the custom rom. I have heard a few stories that people bricked their devices because of incompatible bootloader and recovery. Good luck.

+1 for that! Glad you got root! It looks as if you were just one step away from pushing the recovery through ADB. Root would not have been necessary in that case because all custom roms are rooted.
But you do need TWRP 2.5 with any JB 4.2 bootloader! Make sure you have the correct recovery installed!
If you want to try CROMi-X, flash the bootloader/TWRP package first! That way you definitely have the correct bootloader - recovery combination.
And make sure you boot back into your old rom once after the bootloader flash and before you flash the rom. Do not flash both in one session, the rom flash would wipe the bootloader flash and then you don't have a bootloader anymore. Not a good scenario......

Well back to more issues, although I have TWRP installed, I download the updated Bootloader fil found here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2223492
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=22979706399753384
and I place it on my device then go to install via TWRP, it loads up and blue bar comes up then it loads a TEAMWIN screen and says MD5 not found, and then reboots device and does not update my bootloader, I am still stuck on a 10.4 one
any insight?
Thanks

Huuuh? When you hit the home button in TWRP, or "back" a couple of times, you should have a screen with Install, backup, Mount and a bunch of other options. Or reboot and then back into TWRP. It's the first screen that comes up
BTW, before you go any further. Did you make a backup of your old rom in TWRP? If not, I would seriously suggest you do that before you flash anything new!

I checked off /zip sig verification and installed, it says successful but i am still not getting an updated bootloader when I check it in my About System menu??
Thanks

Are looking in About Tablet for your bootloader version?
That's not correct anymore. As soon as you flash custom stuff, the only way to tell your BL version is to power up with Volume Down and Power button and read the tiny script when the bootloader menu comes up.

[Q] Bricked, only fastboot is working

Hello.
My English is quite bad, and I'm sorry for that. Anyway, I hope that someone of you can help me with my problem, and will understand what I wanted to say.
So, at first I unlocked bootloader. After that, with InsecureBootandRoot script I wanted to root phone. When I did it, in "cmd" it stuck on "Daemon started successfully".
From then, I can't run my phone. Bootloader is working, fastboot USB aswell. I tried to install few recoverys, but none of them were working. ADB is also not working, it can't see my device(Probably because it's not working in fastboot. And if my phone is not in fastboot, computer don't recognise my device). Also, I can't "throw" any files to phone because computer see my device only in fastboot.
I tried to use HTC ONE S AIO kit . It show me my CID(HTC 0_32) and version(3.16.401.8), but that's all. Other commands are not working at all.
I also installed sdk and all drivers. That didn't help, meh.
Any ideas what should I do to have my phone working again? :c

I have checked the link. The script "only" flashes a kernel (boot.img) + Superuser app. Flashing a new kernel should work for you. What command did you use to flash the boot.img ??
fastboot flash boot boot.img and then fastboot flash boot recovery.img
I'll try uninstalling sdk and all drivers, and then install them using tutorial from this forum. Maybe it will be easier, when adb will work .-.

Philz has a option to boot into bootloader. Have you tried it? If you give it to service they'll recognize that you have modified thze phone. As you were able to flash philz, you should also be able to flash boot+recovery image. Then you'll have to perform "factory reset + clear storage" to fix the sd card issue. I'm sure its possible! Once done you can install a rom manually or change the CID to run a stock RUU EU unbranded.
As your warranty is void I'd suggest to fix it o ya own

Factory Reset, result: "Unfortunately, Android System has stopped"

AT&T D850, rooted, still running 4.4.2.
Yesterday having terrific wifi connection problems...on all wifi.
After hours of work, decided to Factory Reset.
Did on-phone software-based backup and factory reset.
Upon reboot, I get black box message: "Unfortunately, Android System has stopped"
I've had a phone repair teck look at it and he could not get very far. You can actually hit "OK" after the message and y get a microsecond to try and hit something on the screen. he was trying to clear the storage cache.
So, after numerous retries at hardware (button) based factory reset with same results, I'm the owner of a bricked device. Although I rooted to get rid of AT&T trash on the phone, I had little interest in custom ROMS and was afraid of bricking my phone. And after a simple factory reset, that's apparently exactly what happened.
So as if this point, I have a data connection with the carrier, and I can access internal memory via USB...but obviously I cannot go into settings and enable Developer Options or USB Debugging or anything like that.
What are my options to restructure things running purely thru a PC/USB connection?
Any help would be SINCERLEY appreciated.

It doesn't look like it's going to install anything...or run anything...it's just a bunch of parameters that' I don't understand. One of which, is "Ty;e" and the default is CDMA. I KNOW this phone is for AT&T- so I should not be messing with anything for a CDMA system/Verizon/Sprint. Totally confused. I'd really appreciate your input...if you want I'll make a contribution to your PayPal or something...I know I'm a PITA. I'm an intelligent guy that works with computers all day. I'm not a grandma or a noob...but you're way more advanced than me and I'm having trouble making the connections that you are completely familiar with.

Firstly you would keep it on cdma as that doesn't apply to what the phone network or is for. Also your using the Wrong method. You would use the TOT method. Tot method doesn't ask for what your seeing

Wait what? All the links in my guide work fine. If you look after you clicked you have to enter a quick catch code and click download. That is to stop abuse.
What do you mean unrelated downloads?? Screenshot? I've never had anyone say that.
Links working fine for me.

Still trying to get LG Drivers. The link takes me to download for generally updating windows drivers...which I do and run/install. It doesn't help...it has nothing to do with LG drivers. On your screenshot...I see all that. I enter the code...I get another screen with a big circle and it says "Start Download" driverupdate.net........is that what you see?

Nothing on my server is spam downloads. Remember the links are MY server and ran by me I don't host or provide spam downloads. Unless you have something on your computer causing that.
