MyTouch Trackball questions and ideas
Alright, I hope i don't sound like an a$$hole, but I, for one, am SICK and TIRED of my MyTouch not making use of the THREE (R,B,G to make white, correct?) LED's under it's trackball. Now i have a few questions,
1. Why hasn't it CM included trackball lighting/changing colors in his ROM? If it was done for the N1, how hard would it be to do it on the MyTouch?
2. HOW was it done for the Nexus? I noticed that "Trackball Alert Pro" just changed the LED color (top of phone, in the ear speaker slot), therefore, shouldn't it be as simple as to "tell" the app to use the MyTouch's trackball instead of the Nexus' trackball?
Now, the lights on some Motorola's (the Razr series, the Z3, V360), (the BT LED's, charging LED's, flashlights, etc.) were controlled by FLP files (basically .txt files) that you could edit manually or an FLP editor, so HOW is the Nexus' trackball light controlled? Is it a script, file, is it the kernel? Couldn't the same concept be applied to the MyTouch?
Also, i remember on the T-Mobile forums, a user called "BreakTheCycle2" (here's on XDA too, i think), developed a "script" to change the trackball light colors, and i sent him a PM, but he never replied.
Now, PLEASE don't be hatin' (lol), but I'm a n00b and these are just IDEAS that are running through my head.
A white led is a white led, I strongly doubt there is any way to get primary colors out of it.
N1 trackball's led is a multicolor led, it's just different.
Do you really think someone would put three leds to mimic the action of one?
I've seen a picture of a MyTouch motherboard, there are three LEDs under the trackball.

This is barely related to development. I am hoping that you are looking to develop a resolution to getting multiple colors. But if this is just a thread to complain about the lack thereof then I'll move it. Please explain what you are hoping to accomplish for posting this in a section dedication to the advancement of our devices other than complaining about the lack of because that could have been posted in General.
On another note since I haven't seen the three led's that you've mentioned I cannot speculate on whether this is or not a possibility. Ask yourself this... have you ever seen a color other than white on your trackball? So I'm inclined to say that it's not without modification of the hardware... yet I've been wrong before. But the MT3G has been out for a long time and it's popped in everyone's mind at least once. I'm sure that someone has looked into it and if the possibility was there we would be using it by now. Kind of like the getting bluetooth to work issue for Sapphire 32b Hero rom's. Until recently it was considered impossible. Yet it was discovered that you only need the 32A radio and kernel (compatible rom) to make it work. It took time, research, trial/error, patience and a few bricked phones to make such progress. This was for functionality. What you're wanting is only cosmetic. Not a real high priority.

Well mines is orange and I literally mean orange whether it's lit up or not.
manufacturer's defect I guess.
Yours is orange because the thin film they use to protect the board from dust in that area is orange and it probably wasnt placed properly and its covering one of your led's or touching the trackball. Which also means different color trackball led's are very possible. If we can code the led's to work seperately from each other then we can have multiple color led's if we use a different color film on each of them!!!!!! If we cant seperate them then pick a color film u want and place it over the led's and there ya go. I will try to replicate yours tonight and try the one color led as mentioned above

Me and shawn1224 may have accidentaly uncoverd the age old mytouch mystery. I am posting this here because I am not a developer and we need a dev. to try and seperate the 3 led's under the trackball from each other for seperate use. Below is a cut from the thread posted above. I will post an in depth later tonight of how to change the color under the trackball as described below but we still need a dev for the coding if possible of the led's. Thanks

I went ahead and researched the led by the ear speaker. It is 1 l.e.d with 3 diodes inside of it. Each diode is a different color. The varying colors come from changing the amount of power sent to each diode. Pretty much just like mixing paint in a bucket. Giving a diode more power will increase the color emitted. Lower power to another diode to change the end color of 3 combined l.e.d.'s and still equal the same amount of light emitted by all 3.
Ex.
Red diode wattage=.3333333 of 1
Green diode wattage = .3333333 of 1
Blue diode wattage=.3333333 of 1
1 being the total light emitted/or power sent to whole l.e.d. lower one and raise another but always equal to the max amount of power the led can handle.
Or just buy a new trackball - I got myself a red one.

What i should have mentioned in my first post, is that i would like this to be the end-all, be-all MT trackball thread, and what i meant by starting it, is if ANYONE has any ideas or apps to test, i would be happy to test them. And contrary to your post, it WOULD be very functional, because Cyanogen doesn't have trackball lighting for notification like the stock ROM does, and it would REALLY help in my eyes. Imagine yourself in MY position. I usually have my phone in my lap during school, and i hardly ever see my notification LED blink when i have a (maybe) important message waiting. I mean, the trackball LEDs are SO much brighter, it would catch my attention immediately, and I'm sure people other than me (maybe even yourself, sir) can agree.

I (and hopefully other people other than me, apparently i could use some support) would like a free alternative to the trackball color, as well as i NEED insurance/warranty on my phone, because i simply don't have the money for a new phone if i break it while taking it apart.
Also, you guys seem very focused on color, that is just a MINOR thing to me, i want to be able to set different lighting patterns, how long it blinks, the interval for waiting notifications, i personally don;t care if its white, red, orange, purple or PINK for god's sake.
THE ONLY WAY KNOWN TO MANKIND (i think)

The thing about CM not having the same trackball notification is due to it (the glowing/flashing/breathing) being HTC framework.
If HTC can set light patterns and make them trigger on certain events, so can we.

I think that the whole point of his thread was to change the LED color from the settings... not by removing the trackball and replacing the colored film beneath it. I'm all about development for this... but we don't need two threads about it. Let's pick one and I'll combine the other one with it.
not a problem. I just posted in here so a dev could answer the question about splitting the 3 led's up. Im not sure if they are all on the same circuit or can be flashed seperately. I know we will never get anything but white out of them. I guess keep this one open cuz the other one isnt gonna get anything accomplished. thanks binary

It's better than having to decide on which one to move to General.
Thanks a ton, Binary...so anybody have any ideas SOFTWARE-wise? Maybe taking "HeroLED" or "Trackball Alert Pro" apart and "pointing" it to the MyTouch trackball? How would we go about doing something like that, maybe talking to the dev of TAP?

Hi there. I have a pebble blue16gb S3 that's currently on the fritz. Some people are recommending a jtag service to force a stock rom back onto my s3. I've got others that are telling me my emmc chip is probably bad and that a jtag probably won't help my issue at all. Anyway, I've been cruising craigslist and I found a 16gb pebble blue s3 that has a cracked screen. In the pictures I was sent the crack is right down the middle. The guy selling it says the LCD display wont show up at all, but in some pictures the back button and the other button light up as well as the blue notification light on top were working in the picture. He's selling the device for $90. I checked the IMEI he gave me on swappa.com/ESN and its said its ready for activation. I asked the craigslist seller how the device was damaged and he said he got into a car accident going 60mph and he was hit by a drunk driver and the phone hit the dash. I have a buddy of mine who is willing to take the motherboard from this phone and switch it out with my phone, but he expressed concern that the fact the LCD won't display anything and he thinks the motherboard may have suffered some kind of damage in the crash causing the device not to display. He also noted that he has seen phones with cracks all over and the lcd still displays something. Can anyone shed some light as to how much impact a Verizon SIII motherboard can absorb and if its possible for the screen to totally not work, but the board itself be fine? Thank you very much!
Im not sure if this was the right thread to post this question either, but I hope it is. Thanks!
Also just wondering, is the notification light at the top and the lighted back button and the function button by home at the bottom run through the same connection that controls the display?

I repair these devices and I'll say that you should just stay away from an S3 with a blacked out LCD. The repair for the LCD is about $300. Just a cracked glass may run you anywhere from $80-$150 for repair. The motherboard could be damaged, but there is really no way to tell unless the screen is on. I doubt it would be broken, though... I would look at it to see if the metal frame around the screen were bent or warped. If not, I doubt it would be. If the soft keys light up, you should also hear the volume turn up.... this checks to see if the speaker works.
But with a busted LCD... too much cost to fix that and not worth it. May as well buy a new one.

So should I just pass on this craigslist phone? All I wanted was the board from it and switch it out with my motherboard that is on the fritz.
Hi all,
i got a problem with my display.
The brightness/illumination on display when displaying content with white background is from what I see not correct.
A certain part in the middle of my display is clearly more illuminated then the rest. But only when showing the color white.
I did the diagnosis test in the menus and here it occurred again.
Does anybody have the same issue?
Is this a display problem so I have to change my phone? Or is this just a calibration problem?
Thanks in advance
I have the same problem on my z5 Dual. White backgrounds and the screen brightness increases. Not sure why this is.

You got a bright patch in the middle too - interesting. Maybe you could take this picture again vertically (without tilt & finger smudges) in a dark room ? I never saw 100% uniform white on any LCD & Amoled mobile screen, but yours don't look acceptable.

But this is definitely a defect screen. The bright patch in the middle is really annoying when scrolling
I returned mine today, the bright patch in the center together with all other issues was just too much. Got an S6 Edge+ instead, same weight but much larger and much better looking screen.

I'm in Singapore and on my second Z5 and there is still this unevenness in the backlight. The first set was more obvious and in the middle which was really irritating. This second one has two minor spots but they sort of form a line to the middle of the screen. It's kind of disappointing that the QC level of this product is so ****ty. Two straight out of shrink-wrapped boxes!
They are also from two revisions; the tray is different on both of mine... on the first set it was stupid with the microsim and sd slot on opposite sides meaning you had to slide one in half way to keep the sim card in before putting in the SD card. The second one made more sense with both the sim card and sd card on the same side.
I'm still pondering if I should bring it down to the telco to make another change...sigh.
guys my z5 had display but no backlight, I have bypassed the "V" and "A" both fuses still theres no backlight can anyone help?
Is it possible to change the whole colour. I mean, change the colour means to replace three things.
1. Back Panel
2. Front Panel
3. Home button
I know it's kind of weird. But let's take a chance. I've been using the phone for 2 years, and i don't want to change it now.
But a colour change will be good, i thought.
Any suggestions. Help please

You can but it will be very costly, the whole front panel is all one piece so includes lcd and digitiser, they are all one part, the back and home button are the easier things, overall the cost versus handset value doesn't make it worth it.
@chriskabraham Use Vinyls! Either from Dbrand or Slickwraps. Slickwraps also offers vinyls for the metal body.
As above, cheaper and easier using vinyls plus you've got a lot more choice, in fact I'm using a carbon vinyl on mine right now from debrand.
Hello people,
Well, like the title says... I'm having the screen burn-in problem on my Pixel.
It's not affecting only the navigation and notification bars, but some icons and widgets from home screen too.
Is there a way to fix it or minimize it? I tried inverting colors and decreasing the screen brightness, it seems to improve it, but the "ghosts" are still there, even though they are visible mostly on white or grey screens.
It's very disappointing, I don't know what to do. There are some "burn in fixer" apps, but they basically invert the colors too, but I've read that they actually burns all the other pixels. Is it harmful to use them?
Thanks!

No it's a hardware problem..
Invert colors and increase the screen brightness, don't decrease it. You want that invert to make the pixels' lighting decay to match the rest as fast as you can. Do that for a few days and it should even out a bit at the cost if making all your backlighting decay a little (it won't be noticeable, but that is the effect).
There are apps that claim to fix burn in with good reviews on google play. Whether they actually work I not I've no idea.

Screen burn in is a part of OLED displays and it is actual wear of the organic light emitting diode...unfortunately there isn't really a way to fix it but to burn everything else in equally (but the output in general will decrease). The higher the intensity (brighter the screen) the faster it happens.
Unpopular opinion, but I prefer LCD's for this reason (no burn in, flatter power efficiency curve).
I've replaced the screen. Bought a new one from eBay. It is great now! Unfortunatelly it was the only thing to do, and thankfully the Pixel has a great building, you can easily replace the screen without disassemble

How did you replace the screen and how expensive was it?
About 100 USD. There's a lot of videos on youtube teaching how to replace it
