Can you give anymore information.... Like were you doing something with the device when that happened? Did you have it connected to a PC with USB debugging enabled and then disconnected the device without turning off USB debugging or ejecting it from the PC?
Have you tried rebooting the device?

Sounds like you just unplugged the flash drive/OTG cable without disconnecting it through the drop down notification panel first.
Try reconnecting your OTG/flash drive and see if it's recognized, then pull your notification panel down and click on the disable USB/OTG storage.
You should always disable USB debugging and OTG first before unplugging the cable, it can damage the memory and SD cards.

This is strange... I just checked mine with stick mount, pulled down the notification panel a checked unmount, the light on my flash drive was still lit up, so I went to root browser and I was able to still access the flash drives contents, so it was still mounted.
Unmount was working fine for me before. I know stick mount was updated a couple days ago... Not sure if that has something to do with it.
This isn't the answer but I just rebooted the device and when it powered off I unplugged the OTG cable, to avoid any damage to the memory.
The only other thing I can think is that some app (like root browser) is preventing it from unmounting.

USB Mass storage
I don't think you need Composite USB driver to access your files on your phone through USB.
Most android phones allow you to configure the USB connection type - either through the Settings app or through a notification / popup when you connect the USB cable. Select "Mass Storage" / "USB Storage" from the options and when you connect your USB cable, you would get option to "Turn ON USB Storage" - If you do that, your sdcard would be mounted as a USB drive in your PC.
If this doesn't work for you, it would be helpful if you can post a screenshot / photo of the About Phone in Settings, showing the details about version / kernel / etc.

Try to switch USB port in PC, reinstall your android (complete wipe of system, then reinstall it). Or maybe your windows is causing this problem.
Cable or port issue. USB port on phone, computer or cable.

Thanks, but I have already tried on multiple PCs,multiple ports and multiple cables. I don't know if it can be a sofware problem that a wipe or change of ROM can solve :/

I experienced the same issue yesterday when I tried to flash Lollipop on my Nexus5.
Using the original USB cable that came with the Nexus did the trick.
Try turning USB Debugging on Dev Options. It might help.

I have had the phone for just under two weeks and all seemed to be running fine until I plugged the device into the PC recently, I changed the connection mode from charging to MTP but nothing happened, I followed the instructions in this thread but still no success. I've attached a screenshot showing the discrepancy in the setting and notification bar.

The notification bar shows charging only whilst in the settings it shows MTP, though the PC does not detect it. Anyone else experienced anything similar?

You have to tap the notification (it will open a popup) and change to MTP each time you connect to the computer.

On the first day when I connected the phone to my PC everything was fine, I installed Xperia Companion and was able to access the internal storage/memory card. I tried on another PC and again all seemed fine. It is just on my main PC, there is a driver error (according to Windows device manager). Updating fails, uninstalling and plugging the device back in also doesn't work.
I think I have found the cause, https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...soft-wpd/9f900903-50d8-4935-939d-5dbf8d6bd1d0
Now I need to figure out a way to remove the faulty driver!

You don't need to enable debugging to use MTP
Problem solved!
Problem solved, it is caused by the new driver update (Microsoft – WPD – 2/22/2016 12:00:00 AM – 5.2.5326.4762), it seems to have issue with some devices-specifically Mediatek powered ones. The solution is simple, uninstall the driver update via Windows, if that isn't possible then use system restore, if even that fails (like in my case) then the driver can be manually removed using command prompt, as explained here. Now the device connects fine, just like it used to.
As far as I am aware the update has now been pulled so shouldn't install. I triggered the installation of the update myself after manually checking for updates-that's the last time I'll be doing that. :silly:
Fix
Apparently there's a very simple solution. Same thing happened with me a few days ago, search for " How to Fix MTP! problem in windows 10 " on Youtube uploaded by " Infinity Studio " watch this it solved my problem. (Sorry can't post link as m still a junior member)
