Is this possible? - General Questions and Answers

Is it possible to download data (mb) from your WiFi to use as mobile data when your on the go?
Sorry if this doesn't make any sense.
Thanks

Indeed it doesn't make sense. Simply put it's impossible for the same reason you can't store free calls from your landline to use later with your mobile phone.

yup..makes sense but may not work
yup..the question makes sense, though as pointed above how can it work..
& yup the shared link kinda leads to this page it seems

Unless it is a cache like google map, you can preload it while using wifi.

What kind of data do you want to load?
Is it maps, music, web-pages?

What do you mean by downloading mb to use while you are on the go?
You can download whatever you want in Wifi and use it on 3G, but you cannot get extra mb in wifi to use in a different connection (If I understood you well...)

[Q] Tetheringguard.apk

Any ideas what it does? It runs as a service com.htc.tetheringguard
Just installed the OTA update and noticed this. If you stop the service it doesnt reload unless you open the mobile hotspot app. Think the free hotspot block can be removed by removing the service? That seems way too easy...

It certainly does seem too easy. Brilliant solution if it works though.
Easy test, turn it off, try to use another tethering app.
I am debating between doing and not doing the update because I like the free WiFi hotspot; I can be cheap
Can someone with the update try it?
I tried freezing it with titanium backup Pro, but it just rendered the mobile hotspot inoperable.

If you're already rooted you might as well just use the wireless tether app, or the one built into cm7.

Does the wireless tether app tether 4G or just 3G? Download link anyone?

4G as long as you have 4G available. If you use this version, make sure you select the option in settings for HTC related to the LAN.

Wifi calling for ATT?

Just recently moved and I have no service with T Mobile so I might be switching to ATT. Is there any ROMs or a way to make wifi calls with ATT without using Skype or another app?

Why don't you wanna use an external app? Wouldn't that save a bunch of time?
Sent from my non-rooted GS2 SR
You can also get a microcell, they are a life saver in low signal areas. Sometimes you can get at&t to comp you one to get you to sign up.

Doesn't the other person have to have the same app in order to use it? That's what it seems like anyways but I could be wrong

Google voice doesn't support wifi only calling. SMS texts yes.
ATT Galaxy SkyRocket CM9 stable..sent using XDA premium
Setup google voice and use an app called GrooveIP (http://goo.gl/zDVm8).
That's what I use when I'm outside the coutry to call fro free.
You can receive calls and make calls with just wifi (even hotel room). It's one of the best app I found
if you flash cm/aokp you should be able to use "internet calling" aka sip. There are a few other sip based apps out there that will let you make calls but not with the normal dialer.

I have a microcell as well. I am running Embyro 5.3 with the UCLF6 baseband and the 3.0.42 Cymbaline- RD04-2.7 kernel. I think the microcell is $20 a month for unlimited phone calls. It's running at 3G. I got it before I* switched to cable for my internet access. Works like a charm and I never get close to using up my data plan. I usually run about a 7400 on the AnTuTu benchmark also.

There are a couple "plans" for the microcell. One is free and uses your existing plan's minutes. The other is the one you mentioned. And it is only 3G, but 4.5mbps is still decent just for a phone.

Yes, but they now use Ringto, another free voip provider, which works just about as well as Google Voice.

[Q] How to auto switch to strongest AP

So at work we have 3 AP's and at home I have 2. I have to disable WiFi and the enable to get it to grab the strongest one. They are all the same SSID's as they are extenders. I have avoid poor connections checked in advanced wifi settings but it doesnt make any difference. Is there an app that can auto do this or something else I can do? Im on latest nightly of CM10.1 Thanks in advance
Of course an app can fix a problem like this. I searched play store and found wifi jumper 0.99€ and smart wifi which is free. Try them out and let us know. Btw and if the paid app isn't much brighter then the free app, you get your money back if you uninstall it in 15 minutes

Thanks for the reply. Unless I am looking at the wrong apps, this is not what I need. I need one to switch from a weaker AP to a stronger AP that is in the same building. Those that you mentioned are "battery saving" apps.
But in both app description says automatically connects to strongest AP. So did you even try out?

For me it automatically switches to the strongest AP. I'm on stock ICS 4.0.4.

[Q] Android sucking up my data, please help!

So I recently got my first contract, T-Mobile, 1000MB internet, 90 call minutes and 2500 texts, so in the first two days I already used up 100 of 1000MB, 35MB by me and the rest by Android (see screenshot), is there anything I can do about it? Please let me know.
Edit: screenshot didn't upload.

When u don't need data turn it off. Also turn off sync with your accounts. U can also set a limit on how much data u use in settings

Wifi will not accumulate any data. Well it will but any data used over wifi will not go towards the 1000mb limit u have. So if ur on wifi turn data off just to be safe.
Hope that helps!

Go to settings. Then go to data usage.
Then click on the top app. Then scroll down to the bottom. Then check the box that says restrict background data. Do this for any apps using data a lot.

Try using a 3G on/off widget (so you can toggle 3G easily) and connecting to wifi when available. Also, turn off syncing for apps, and GPS.

I called T-Mobile, I should ignore what Android tells me, I don't have to pay for Twitter, Facebook and Whatsapp and background data doesn't count either.

Wifi sharing?

Is there a way to share out my wifi on my N5? Basically i dont want to do a normal wifi hotspot, which uses my phones data. I want to connect to a wifi AP on my phone, then share that AP out via my phones wifi
