Wifi sharing? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to share out my wifi on my N5? Basically i dont want to do a normal wifi hotspot, which uses my phones data. I want to connect to a wifi AP on my phone, then share that AP out via my phones wifi

you can use 'Fqrouter2' to do that

faking the data plan as wifi?

some games like gameloft require a wifi connection to download the data...the problem is I have a 7.2mgbs data plan conc so how can I use it instead of wifi...is there a way do fake my plan as a wifi connection?

I don't think they require it, just that they recommend using wifi. I have downloaded some games from gameloft myself and I had no problem using 3g.

asphalt 6 for example has only the wifi option to download the data I can't by 3g

Someone please have a legit answer to his question. I want to play Order and Chaos via 3/4G!!
Have you tried turning on wifi tether and see if it tricks the game to think you are on wifi and not 3g. just a dumb idea but it might work.
You could always go to a "shady" site and download the SD card data via PC. Or I suppose you could have a friend setup their phone as a wifi hotspot so that you could download that way.
These are all workarounds but...if one want's to play Order and Chaos via 3/4g
I have a phone and a tab and can tether my tab and play but ideally this would be nice to be able to accomplish with one device on it's own. Someone has to be clever enough to code a way to make apps think there is a valid connection, probably some iptables wizardry and place the wifi adapter into loopback mode if possible.

Are you talking about the market giving you a warning that the file may be too large to download over mobile data? If so, I got that message for World of Goo (~50mb; had wifi symbol in market) and I just pressed OK and it started downloading over 4G.

I have a fix for this. It just depends on what your trying to do with the wifi.

What you asked is impossible (to trick the phone and make it think its connected)
Create wifi access point with your phone and then connect there!
Thats what you want and what problaly dont working but use search...in Neo or Arc forum is 1thread and long discussion how and is it possible.
Cheers

Is that even possible? My phone disables wifi when making a hot spot also i'm sure since the wifi is being used to broadcast it can't be used to connect to any
Swyped from just about every ROM in the HD2 section
Are you talking about downloading from the market, cuz unless your carrier blocks it, I've never found anything on the market I can't download over mobile data (even if it gives me the warning dialog). If it's not in the market, I've downloaded files like 900 mb or more. Not sure what the problem is unless it's your carrier, in which case, whatever you do to trick your phone still won't trick the provider, I think.

buy a $15 wireless router. Tada.
I think he's talking about games from like gameloft and stuff, That require wifi only to download the extra game data. That's what I got from of his post at least. And to answer his question... I have no idea.

Mobile WiFi hotspot ideas

Well i am stuck with this wifi hotspot that i hardly use anymore and i need ideas on how i can start using it again (put it to use). Any ideas on how to repurpose the hotspot for something? I have internet at home and on my phone. The hotspot has a 3.5GB limit.

Could you please elaborate on what you're wanting to get out of the hotspot? I personally see no need of using a hotspot, but if you actually own it, why not use it when you travel?
Using a laptop as a hotspot could save you a few bucks on some cheap hotel WiFi.
Well i was using it when i didn't have a line in place and was just using the hotspot and its under 2 years contract. I have a line now for a while and haven't been using the hotspot but I'm stuck under contract so i want to put it to some use. I don't travel much in terms if long distance so idk about that. I just want to use it in some sort of creative way that makes it useful instead of haven't it sit there powered off.

There really isn't much you can do. A hotspot is a hotspot basically. If you don't travel much, there's really no need for a hotspot. I could see some use if you have some sketchy people and don't want them connecting your internet.
Yeah...... Thanks for your help.

Try checking if you have any friends or family that is in need for it. That way they could cut your cost since it is lying dormant in your possession.
If not, if you place is big you could place the wifi on one end and the hotspot on another.
But as codemonkey98 suggest, your hotspot is a bit redundant if you dont travel, since you have a wifi at home.

You could
a. redeploy it as a dedicated internet entertainment access point for internet TV, movies, music, games and downloads of huge files.
b. use it as a personal video streamer so you can stream videos to the internet so that you can watch them from your phone when you are away from home.
c. use it as a home webcam server so you can see what's going on at home, from your phone. There are multi-channel servers, so you can keep an eye on each room if you wish.
Lots more apps. . .
This way, you can free up the bandwidth constraint on your home internet line.
When travelling, I use McDonald's free WiFi ...
thanks for mobile hotspot idea.I was looking for one.

[Question] Nexus 5 WiFi Sharing

Well I have a nexus 5 on latest android 6.0.1 rooted.
I know I can hotspot, but when I hotspot it, disables the WiFi an uses my phone data... is there a way that I can b connected to WiFi and share the WiFi connection not my mobile data...
I had this on my iPhone 4s on iOS 6 with MyWi an it was called WiFi sharing. Is there a way to do it with my Nexus 5? I have foxfi, but it disables my WiFi an uses my mobile data.

No you can't do this. Why would you need to in any case? If there's wifi available, there's no need to share it again through your phone?
Also, MyWi never did this either, it also just shares your iPhones cellular data connection.

Well my iPhone 4s on iOS6.1.3 does it with MyWi so I know your wrong, but my question is can I do it with a rooted nexus 5

Think why you wanted that function again..
The whole point of hotspot is to bridge devices that don't have data access.
Use case scenarios.. Nexus 5 hotspot and I connect my wifi only iPad to it, now iPad can access the internet.
So the whole MyWi, does exactly this.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Here why this is good thing. You are in roaming and in the hotel where you must to pay for WiFi , but when you pay it's allow you to connect only one device. Then you can share wifi whit all your device with wifi share
