Just recently moved and I have no service with T Mobile so I might be switching to ATT. Is there any ROMs or a way to make wifi calls with ATT without using Skype or another app?

Why don't you wanna use an external app? Wouldn't that save a bunch of time?

You can also get a microcell, they are a life saver in low signal areas. Sometimes you can get at&t to comp you one to get you to sign up.

Doesn't the other person have to have the same app in order to use it? That's what it seems like anyways but I could be wrong

Google voice doesn't support wifi only calling. SMS texts yes.
ATT Galaxy SkyRocket CM9 stable..sent using XDA premium
Setup google voice and use an app called GrooveIP (http://goo.gl/zDVm8).
That's what I use when I'm outside the coutry to call fro free.
You can receive calls and make calls with just wifi (even hotel room). It's one of the best app I found
if you flash cm/aokp you should be able to use "internet calling" aka sip. There are a few other sip based apps out there that will let you make calls but not with the normal dialer.

I have a microcell as well. I am running Embyro 5.3 with the UCLF6 baseband and the 3.0.42 Cymbaline- RD04-2.7 kernel. I think the microcell is $20 a month for unlimited phone calls. It's running at 3G. I got it before I* switched to cable for my internet access. Works like a charm and I never get close to using up my data plan. I usually run about a 7400 on the AnTuTu benchmark also.

There are a couple "plans" for the microcell. One is free and uses your existing plan's minutes. The other is the one you mentioned. And it is only 3G, but 4.5mbps is still decent just for a phone.

Yes, but they now use Ringto, another free voip provider, which works just about as well as Google Voice.

Those without unlimited minutes will take comfort in the fact that T-Mobile will not count wi-fi calling against your minutes starting 5/11:

This just plain kicks butt!
I bee happy!
Awesome. Man my gf would really benefit that. She constantly goes over her minutes and we have a great wifi connection here.

Isn't wifi using my bandwidth
I don't understand how t-mobile could count this against your minutes in the 1st place. Are you using their system in any way when you are on a wifi call? It's like skype right? Your using your broadband providers bandwidth. Why should you pay tmobile at all? If anything your're saving their bandwidth when making calls on wifi.
Or do I have this all wrong? It's moot for me cause I'll be on the unlimited plan when these activate tomorrow.
But when I first saw mention of the wifi calling, it never occured to me that Tmobile was charging for it.
Same thing with surfing the web on wifi...you are taking the strain off their system.
They use your bandwidth to an endpoint they own and then switch the call normally over their networks.
With WiFi connectivity you don't traverse their servers so it doesn't cost them.

....meaning Skype?
That would not be correct. Calls still have to be routed through their network--through their PBXs and switches.

Did anyone try the Wifi-Calling app on Infuse ?. Its a popular app on T-mobile, i saw it on the vibrant & works great. I extracted it from the vibrant and installed it on Infuse. It didn't work. It force closes. May be our Infuse kernal wudn't support it.Btw- i am on Infused 2.3.3.
Any help/thoughts ?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Obviously, there's a simple reason.
It's a T-Mobile app ONLY. You need T-Mobile service for it to work, because it connects to their servers with your subscriber info.
tl;dr, It won't work without T-Mobile service.
Wifi calling
so if i unlock it i can use it?
You would need a TMo voice account to use this. Better option is to use SIP with many of the free clients on Android to make wifi calls. GB even has internet calling built in.

What? My wifi at home is as 'official' as any other network.
I got it to work on the Darky-ROMs. No point in making a new thread so here it is
DarkyRom_T-Mobile_Fix
If you need me to get it working on any other ROM, do let me know.
I know there is a mod in the other section of the Infuse form to get this to work. It is to much for me to understand but maby it will help you.

If it keeps up, go to your apn settings and create a new one with the apn internet2.voicestream.com and you should be able to bypass the tethering message. If you keep it by default, mms will fail with that apn. You should be able to set the epc apn for mms only and the other for internet. something like that.
You can also try internet3.voicestream.com also. Speeds vary for the two apn's based on my experience.

Yes, Tmobile has an additional package you must purchase to use tethering and hotspot. 15 and 10 per month, respectively.

Two tmobile phones using 5gb data/ month each for over 7 months, 4gb a month from computer using mobile AP....haven't had a warning yet. My sisters phone slows down after awile, and she uses netflix for about an hour, she gets a warning but we are no where even close to 5gb download.
I just got the T-mobile $30 5GB "unlimited"/ 100 minute prepaid voice plan.
In a short test the built in wifi hotspot feature in the stock Gingerbread Settings tab seems to work. T-mobile does not offer any add-ons for tethering on this plan.
Is it safe to use this built in feature, or should I be looking for some other app (open garden?) to do this?
nope this is what my dad uses and works great. if you have problems with it then get an alternative wifi tether.
clockworkmod tether is still in beta but I have it on my phone and it works great. google it. the software package you install on your pc installs the apk on your phone.
Me and my wife have been using the mobile AP for over a year and we just upgraded to ginger bread and now when we use it we get a message telling us we have to upgrade our plan and then next time we try to use it the Web will not work it just sends you to Tmobile. We tried downloading pda net from the market but you still can't go to sights that require passwords. It would be nice to find a way around this.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
I actually got that message twice (on stock, never since running custom ROMs), but they never followed through. Of course I don't use my phones data for my laptop often, only on rare occasion and usually not for more than a few minutes.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Tmobile can kiss my rear end on this one, they certainly did NOT have a tethering plan when I purchased the phone and its rediculouse to try to charge me now for a feature that was on the phone and free for the longest time now

If you are using Google Voice, that's an option in AOSP ROMs. Not sure how well it works in TouchWiz.
the problem must be TW then. Have not tried an ASOP ROM
I'd like to disable LTE while I'm at work because we don't get reception for it here. It then believe it kills the battery because it's constantly trying to find a signal and flips from 4g to 3g, etc.
I'm running CleanROM 8.2, which is Android 4.3. I've seen other posts that say use Phone Info, but the app crashes. I've also seen to dial a special number, but that number doesn't do anything.
Is there an easy way to disable 4g LTE with later versions of Android?
Thanks!
