Disappearing apps - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone else had this happen? I keep having apps disappearing, uninstalling themselves. I will click on an app icon only to be told that the app isn't installed. sometimes the app icon turns into the android robot icon.

Odd. What launcher? Stock?

Nova

I've not had this on this tablet, but it happened with my old Asus Slider sometimes. Two options: 1. downloaded from a less than reputable source and the tablet caught a virus. 2. apps with update failure.
Might install a freeware antivirus/malware program like AVG..

Definitely strange. l'm on Nova too and have never experienced this. Hope you get it sorted out somehow. Two things I would probably try would be to clear cache in recovery and then ensure auto backup and restore is disabled.

I only install from the play store with the exception of the xposed framework installer. But I will try some anti virus/malware and turning off backup/restore. Thanks.

Titanium Backup resets wallpaper

Hi,
I recently installed titanium backup on my rooted transformer. Whenever I make a backup, my wallpaper gets reset. Why would that be?

That is strange, I've done countless backup with Titanium and never once does it reset my wallpaper.
Well, actually this started after I enabled the scheduled backup of changed data. When I did a initial backup manually everything worked fine as well.

I've noticed that as well, but on my Galaxy Nexus. Ever since that started happening (and setting the wallpaper up properly is a real pain in the S for me), I stopped using scheduled backups...
I suspect that it's not because of the schedule, but the changed data backup mode.

I am also experiencing this issue on my rooted Galaxy S2 with 4.1.2.
In addition to resetting my wallpaper, the backup also sets my default keyboard back from Swiftkey to the Samsung Keyboard.
In my case, it has been every time I run Backup - All User Apps and System Data.
By testing I have determined that if I do not backup Swiftkey then the default keyboard doesn't change.
In the case of the wallpaper issue, I Have not yet been able to work out which backup item is causing the problem.
FWIW.... A workaround I found for this problem on my Samsung Galaxy S4 (4.2.2 using Titanium Backup free version)... If I exclude "System UI" from the backup, the wallpaper is not reset. I had tried both the "Kill active apps" and the "Exclude active apps" options, but it was still resetting the wallpaper to default. I performed a manual backup, deselected System UI from the apps list, and the wallpaper wasn't reset. For scheduled backups I set up a filter to exclude "System UI" and it seems to work fine.
There certainly may be other solutions/workarounds, but this one worked for me.
Might seem like a dump question, but how Do I set up a filter for the scheduled backup?

Hey guys,
had the same problem on tablet and phone (only the wallpaper thing).
Here is a solution, get the pro version of titanium - preferences and check "advanced app control". Solved.
Cheers
one less gadget.
Same problem here!! I've also noticed it is Titanium who is resetting everything.
However, I have that option set but it's failing... I will try disabling that scheduled backup.

It also happens to me when using Titanium backup, on an Apex AP-GS918, and performing a manual backup (ie not on a schedule).
I guess the System UI app must crash, when being backed-up, and resets the wallpaper as well as the keyboard input device.
Well, but that's a little inconvenient. Always setting the wallpaper to my custom selection ..

I'm also finding that my wallpaper is reset to the default one when using Titanium Backup. It's happening when I use TB to clean the cache of the System UI app (thanks to ahe777 for pointing me in the right direction) rather than when running backups.
The solution for me was to set up a label and filter to exclude the System UI app from cache cleaning.
The Advanced App Control option (I'm using TB Pro) seems to make no difference in my situation.
HTC One S with CyanogenMod 10.2
Using TB Pro - Doing manual backup of all sys data and user apps I found the following when it finished...
Resets wallpaper back to original wallpaper.
Resets keyboard back to google keyboard as default.
Also stops all my "Start at Boot" apps from starting at boot. I hade to restart each manually to get them to go back to autostarting again.
Also reset my default SMS app to Google Messaging.
Tried Advanced App Control and that appears to have solved the problem - at least for manual backups. Will see about scheduled later.

Using filters works for me as well! Thx.
I recently upgraded to 4.4.2 and used Titanium Backup to help move my apps between the ROM. I also had the problem with resets to wallpaper and running apps. I tried most of the settings with no great success, but I will try the filter workaround posted in this thread. I was quite disappointed with TIBU as the options and settings are not very well laid out on the tablet interface.
Not paying twice

same Problem here with my OnePlus One (rooted). Doesn't matter if you use a stock ROM (12s) or a original CM 5.1.x ROM. This is really annoying ...
I had the Advanced App Control with the Donate version, and still lose my wallpaper and keyboard settings. Blows, but hey - at least it's backing up right.

I'm using a Oneplus 3 rooted with stock rom (OOS 3.2.7/Android 6.0.1) and have the same problem as archer when doing an scheduled 'all apps & system data' backup. On a scheduled 'all new & changed apps' everything is ok. Advanced app control wont do the trick, looks like a never solved bug.

Problem adding widgets

I'm running stock, rooted. Anytime I attempt to add a widget to my home screen, I get the error, "Unfortunately Google Search has stopped". Has anyone else seen this?

Thanks! Who would have thunk? I installed Nova, problem gone. So now I uninstalled Nova and the problem is still gone. I never even opened the app. What gave you the idea to try it?

I always had Nova as launcher so even with the "new google experience" I wanted to install Nova.
However I've just tried again with Google launcher and adding widgets/new wallpapers seems to work now. FYI between the problem and now I wiped app data from Apps manager and reboot.

Yeah, I use Nova Prime with Slim Roms on my Nexus 7 and retired Gnex. I was giving the stock experience a whirl until SlimKat is ready. So far, I like the new stock launcher. Thanks again.

Looking for app to keep other apps from being killed

Hi All,
Most people are looking for apps to kill other apps when they are running - I'm actually looking for the opposite. Phone keeps killing apps to free up some RAM here and there, and some of the apps to not restart themselves. Are there any good apps out there that can be used to monitor specific apps and restart them if they are killed by the system?
Thanks!

Thanks, I'll check it out.
Or Xposed plus the app settings module. You can force apps to stay in memory so they won't be killed.

That's perfect, I already have Xposed and the App Settings module. Thanks a ton! Would this be the "insistent notification" option?
Nope. The resident checkbox is what you want. http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/mod-app-settings-v1-7-1-2013-12-15-t2437377

I'm not sure about Rom Toolbox Lite but the Pro version lets you add apps to the exclude list for task manager so those apps don't get killed.

[Q] Choosing toolbox crashes settings

As title, I'm running 5.02 (Netherlands) on a P900. Everything is pretty good and I can switch on toolbox but if I actually select toolbox then settings crashes. Any ideas?
EDIT: Did a data wipe and that fixed it. Wiping the cache did not sadly.

Same thing happened to me, after going to the notification panel and switching it on from there, it stopped freezing and is working like normal

Same problem with my US version and 5.02. I did a Wipe Cache and that didn't solve it. Also, I don't have the tool from the notification panel, just in the Settings. I am not ready to factory reset.

Try just turning it on, then let it force close, hold the toolbox, then go up to edit, then it should work from there

You guys are getting me all hot for 5.0.2 ........not
I'm having a same issue with toolbox. If I choose it from the setting, the setting itself keep crashes. I can turn it on but I can't add any apps to it with out being able to select from setting,.

Thank you. I can confirm that it works now.
I think it's the initial set up that's causing it to crash. Once you have one app on the toolbox, setting no longer crashes when pressing toolbox.

Well, I did figure it out in the original post
Looks like we have a way that doesn't involve a data wipe now though, so that's better
Thanks, this worked.

Wish I would have read this before I did a hard reset
Oh, that's what those 3 dots are!
Thanks, Yoshi! I've been trying to figure out what those 3 Dots were once my Note Pro "downgraded" to 5.02.
I'm having crashes with Toolbox as well. Once I followed your instructions, the 3-dot icon had the apps I picked. Then I realized this was "Toolbox". Of course, a little documentation about what was being changed by version 5.02 would have been a great help. But it seems like it costs too much nowadays to create documents along with hardware/software.
But why would I need Toolbox when I've been using Slider Launcher app for a few months to do the same thing? And Slider doesn't have the 5 app restriction of Toolbox as well.
Now if I can only get my Logitech Pro keyboard and the Samsung keyboard to work like they did under 4.4, and the S-Note widget to show all my notes ... well, here's hoping 5.03 will be soon coming and enhance my tablet instead of degrade it.

How can I make it faster?

I have been using this awesome phone for a month already, honestly, the best note ever, anyways. I'm trying to see how can i disabled some apps and improve memory ram, can't find a way, any guide around? Thanks!
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
Not much to disable without rooting. I usually turn animations and such to .5 in developer menu as well as use Google now launcher or nova. I do install the Google app alternatives from the play store. Those usual have less features but are smoother. I also use chrome and install the chrome Samsung library. It seems to help a bit.
An app called package disabler pro lets you disable any app without root...great app but be careful what apps you disable.
Any suggestions on what to uninstall to make the note 5 run fast as hell using root titanium backup or any uninstaller ???
Search bar is always helpful but I'm feeling helpful tonight here you go man! Enjoy! Nice usefully note 5 Debloat guide for root and non root users! Enjoy [emoji14]
