Titanium Backup resets wallpaper - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I recently installed titanium backup on my rooted transformer. Whenever I make a backup, my wallpaper gets reset. Why would that be?

That is strange, I've done countless backup with Titanium and never once does it reset my wallpaper.

Well, actually this started after I enabled the scheduled backup of changed data. When I did a initial backup manually everything worked fine as well.

I've noticed that as well, but on my Galaxy Nexus. Ever since that started happening (and setting the wallpaper up properly is a real pain in the S for me), I stopped using scheduled backups...

I suspect that it's not because of the schedule, but the changed data backup mode.

I am also experiencing this issue on my rooted Galaxy S2 with 4.1.2.
In addition to resetting my wallpaper, the backup also sets my default keyboard back from Swiftkey to the Samsung Keyboard.
In my case, it has been every time I run Backup - All User Apps and System Data.
By testing I have determined that if I do not backup Swiftkey then the default keyboard doesn't change.
In the case of the wallpaper issue, I Have not yet been able to work out which backup item is causing the problem.

FWIW.... A workaround I found for this problem on my Samsung Galaxy S4 (4.2.2 using Titanium Backup free version)... If I exclude "System UI" from the backup, the wallpaper is not reset. I had tried both the "Kill active apps" and the "Exclude active apps" options, but it was still resetting the wallpaper to default. I performed a manual backup, deselected System UI from the apps list, and the wallpaper wasn't reset. For scheduled backups I set up a filter to exclude "System UI" and it seems to work fine.
There certainly may be other solutions/workarounds, but this one worked for me.

Might seem like a dump question, but how Do I set up a filter for the scheduled backup?

Hey guys,
had the same problem on tablet and phone (only the wallpaper thing).
Here is a solution, get the pro version of titanium - preferences and check "advanced app control". Solved.
Cheers
one less gadget.

Same problem here!! I've also noticed it is Titanium who is resetting everything.
However, I have that option set but it's failing... I will try disabling that scheduled backup.

It also happens to me when using Titanium backup, on an Apex AP-GS918, and performing a manual backup (ie not on a schedule).
I guess the System UI app must crash, when being backed-up, and resets the wallpaper as well as the keyboard input device.

Well, but that's a little inconvenient. Always setting the wallpaper to my custom selection ..

I'm also finding that my wallpaper is reset to the default one when using Titanium Backup. It's happening when I use TB to clean the cache of the System UI app (thanks to ahe777 for pointing me in the right direction) rather than when running backups.
The solution for me was to set up a label and filter to exclude the System UI app from cache cleaning.
The Advanced App Control option (I'm using TB Pro) seems to make no difference in my situation.
HTC One S with CyanogenMod 10.2

Using TB Pro - Doing manual backup of all sys data and user apps I found the following when it finished...
Resets wallpaper back to original wallpaper.
Resets keyboard back to google keyboard as default.
Also stops all my "Start at Boot" apps from starting at boot. I hade to restart each manually to get them to go back to autostarting again.
Also reset my default SMS app to Google Messaging.
Tried Advanced App Control and that appears to have solved the problem - at least for manual backups. Will see about scheduled later.

Using filters works for me as well! Thx.

I recently upgraded to 4.4.2 and used Titanium Backup to help move my apps between the ROM. I also had the problem with resets to wallpaper and running apps. I tried most of the settings with no great success, but I will try the filter workaround posted in this thread. I was quite disappointed with TIBU as the options and settings are not very well laid out on the tablet interface.

Not paying twice

same Problem here with my OnePlus One (rooted). Doesn't matter if you use a stock ROM (12s) or a original CM 5.1.x ROM. This is really annoying ...

I had the Advanced App Control with the Donate version, and still lose my wallpaper and keyboard settings. Blows, but hey - at least it's backing up right.

I'm using a Oneplus 3 rooted with stock rom (OOS 3.2.7/Android 6.0.1) and have the same problem as archer when doing an scheduled 'all apps & system data' backup. On a scheduled 'all new & changed apps' everything is ok. Advanced app control wont do the trick, looks like a never solved bug.

I am trying launcherpro since my spb shell seems to lag on my Infuse... I going to the preferences so I can set my number of screens to 7... It asks to reset launcher pro...I choose yes... after a reset, I still don't see 7 screens. I am still at the default of 3.

Really strange stuff has happened with LaunchePro, I had the exact same problem a couple weeks ago and no matter what I tried to do launcherPro would not save settings.
Then 2-3 days later when I was really fed up with it and was about to install a different launcher LauncherPro "healed" itself and started working properly so when I made any changes to it, it no longer defaulted to it's defaults.......
same issue with mine, haven't been able to change my grid dimensions from the default and other settings aren't sticking either.
switched to go launcher ex
Factory data reset and don't try to restore backed up LauncherPro settings. Should work fine then.
I uninstalled the launcher. I'm rooted, so I used Root File Explorer to navigate to dbdata/database. I then deleted the launcher pro folder. Reinstall launcher.

Is there a way I can access the DB database by connecting to the computer.

problem with stock Gallery

Hi,
I faced an issue with the gallery app (the stock application). I "cleared data" in the parameteres/applications menu, and when I restarted Gallery (even after a full restart of the pad), the gallery was not showing any album any more. A refresh in gallery menu did not help, and the app was not looking in any folder (while somepics and movie were still stored in tablet).
I found nothing to fix the issue, except using an old backup done with Titanium (I only restored datas of application): then it worked again.
So I could find a workaround, but do you know what I should have done to force android to rebuild the datas for gallery without having to use titanium..?

[Q] Question About Using Launchers, Specifically About Nova Launcher

So from the amazing Google Play 25c deals I got Nova Launcher. I understand that CM9 uses something called Trebuchet launcher. Thing is when I press the home key, I have a choice between the 2 (and I can choose to make one of them default), and both work. But doesn't this use a lot more resources and stuff, even if I set Nova Launcher to default? I'm not replacing Trebuchet, I'm kind of overlaying Nova Launcher. So does any have any insight on this? Will I save up memory and possible other resources by removing my widgets and/or icons from my default homescreen (Trebuchet)?
Delete trebuchet from /system/app literally delete it problem solved

So if I make a backup, delete it, and then restore it later on, what does it save. Would it save my homescreens with the positions of all my icons and widgets? (not a big deal tbh but would be nice)

if your using tibu or rom toolbox you need to save data and app so it will save preferences but more then likely you will lose some info in the backup

Just to be clear, my backup, all I'm doing is renaming the apk file to .bak (and thus "deletes" it).
You can delete it, but I'd recommend keeping it in case nova crashes. Having a 2nd launcher installed could save you from having to go to download mode and wiping everything if something goes awry with the one you're using. I personally use nova, but keep trebuchet on my phone for this very reason because someone much smarter than myself recommended I do so. I haven't noticed any slowdown by having both installed.

Thanks a lot. I guess just in case, I'll delete my icons and widgets from my homescreens, I took screencaps of them anyways if I ever want to use it again.
Trebuchet is a memory hog. I'd recommend downloading something lightweight but functional, like Lightning Launcher or Nova's long-lost cousin Apex, as a backup instead, then backing up and deleting Trebuchet.

How do I remove Movie Studio?

I'm basically purging all the useless applications i'll never use from a fresh install of CyanogenMod 10.1 Jellybean 4.2.2 and I can't find the .apk anywhere in the app folder. Does anyone know what the .apk is called so I can remove this garbage please?
Thanks.

Don't worry about finding the APK. You can unistall it using Titanium Backup or System Tuner or any of 100 similar apps to unistall it. In those options it will appear in the App list as Movie Studio and not whatever goofy name the APK file has.
You can also freeze it in the Manager Apps section of the settings. That won't delete it but will disable it competely.
Cool thanks. So far all i've done is go into Settings -> Launcher -> Drawer -> Hidden Apps and basically ticked that, will that do for the time being? Also, is Titanium Backup free and can I get it of the Marketplace?
Thanks.

No hiding it only removes it from the app drawer. It may still be running in the background.
There is a free version of titanium on the play store...using it you can uninstall or disable any app.
Hope that helps

That is 100% wrong. I just personally confirmed it. Disabling an app in the settings menu formally freezes it and makes it completely unable to run in any capacity until it is unfrozen.
Please don't post something as a fact unless you are certain its a fact. Posting wrong information will confuse new users and others searching for help later.

So am I alright keeping the method I used to hide it? Will that stop it from running in the background etc.? or do I still need Titanium Backup to remove it?
Thanks.
Disabling the app will render the app unusable until you re-enable the app. If you need to use the app sometimes then I would try the app greenify from the play market. Greenify simply hibernates the app.

[Q] Choosing toolbox crashes settings

As title, I'm running 5.02 (Netherlands) on a P900. Everything is pretty good and I can switch on toolbox but if I actually select toolbox then settings crashes. Any ideas?
EDIT: Did a data wipe and that fixed it. Wiping the cache did not sadly.

Thank you. I can confirm that it works now.
I think it's the initial set up that's causing it to crash. Once you have one app on the toolbox, setting no longer crashes when pressing toolbox.

Well, I did figure it out in the original post
Looks like we have a way that doesn't involve a data wipe now though, so that's better
Thanks, this worked.

Wish I would have read this before I did a hard reset
Oh, that's what those 3 dots are!
Thanks, Yoshi! I've been trying to figure out what those 3 Dots were once my Note Pro "downgraded" to 5.02.
I'm having crashes with Toolbox as well. Once I followed your instructions, the 3-dot icon had the apps I picked. Then I realized this was "Toolbox". Of course, a little documentation about what was being changed by version 5.02 would have been a great help. But it seems like it costs too much nowadays to create documents along with hardware/software.
But why would I need Toolbox when I've been using Slider Launcher app for a few months to do the same thing? And Slider doesn't have the 5 app restriction of Toolbox as well.
Now if I can only get my Logitech Pro keyboard and the Samsung keyboard to work like they did under 4.4, and the S-Note widget to show all my notes ... well, here's hoping 5.03 will be soon coming and enhance my tablet instead of degrade it.
