[Q] Choosing toolbox crashes settings - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As title, I'm running 5.02 (Netherlands) on a P900. Everything is pretty good and I can switch on toolbox but if I actually select toolbox then settings crashes. Any ideas?
EDIT: Did a data wipe and that fixed it. Wiping the cache did not sadly.

Same thing happened to me, after going to the notification panel and switching it on from there, it stopped freezing and is working like normal

Same problem with my US version and 5.02. I did a Wipe Cache and that didn't solve it. Also, I don't have the tool from the notification panel, just in the Settings. I am not ready to factory reset.

Try just turning it on, then let it force close, hold the toolbox, then go up to edit, then it should work from there

Thank you. I can confirm that it works now.
I think it's the initial set up that's causing it to crash. Once you have one app on the toolbox, setting no longer crashes when pressing toolbox.

Well, I did figure it out in the original post
Looks like we have a way that doesn't involve a data wipe now though, so that's better

Thanks, this worked.

Wish I would have read this before I did a hard reset

Oh, that's what those 3 dots are!
Thanks, Yoshi! I've been trying to figure out what those 3 Dots were once my Note Pro "downgraded" to 5.02.
I'm having crashes with Toolbox as well. Once I followed your instructions, the 3-dot icon had the apps I picked. Then I realized this was "Toolbox". Of course, a little documentation about what was being changed by version 5.02 would have been a great help. But it seems like it costs too much nowadays to create documents along with hardware/software.
But why would I need Toolbox when I've been using Slider Launcher app for a few months to do the same thing? And Slider doesn't have the 5 app restriction of Toolbox as well.
Now if I can only get my Logitech Pro keyboard and the Samsung keyboard to work like they did under 4.4, and the S-Note widget to show all my notes ... well, here's hoping 5.03 will be soon coming and enhance my tablet instead of degrade it.

[Q] No YouTube

My Nexus S is on 2.3.3 and I wiped everything on it so I can start fresh again. For some odd reason my YouTube doesn't work anymore. I see the app under manage apps & "all" but does not have an icon in my app drawer. Anyone have any idea how to resolve this?
Uninstall it and then re-download it from the market.

It doesn't even give me an option to. Under market and YouTube, I see the "Open" icon but its not highlighted. It won't let me open through there. You think downloading the same version of it and trying to install it would work?

[MOD]CM9 Alpha 5 hide voicemail notification

Seems like some of us are stuck with these persistent voicemail notifications when we aren't on a touchwiz rom. CM7 let you hide these but CM9 does not.
Until a more official solution comes along this mod simply patches framework-res.apk to use a 1x1 transparent png in place of the standard notification.
Thanks goes to [s89281b, || Acer ||] from the cm9 thread for suggesting removing this icon or blacking it out. I tried removing but that caused the phone app to force close which led me to use a transparent image which should look fine for most situations.

I don't actually think you need to wipe anything for this to work but it never hurts to wipe cache and dalvik cache. Also make a backup before flashing this.
Thanks to tbob18 for putting together a script to auto kill your phone app at boot up. Combine his script with my mod and you have a completely automated solution for dismissing that pesky notification.

Theoretically the program Autostart (Root) would be a great way to combine these two mods into one cwm flashable zip but it seems the app app does not work on ICS... And every time I tried to do it with preconfiguring script manager, it always force closed :/
I will keep looking into combining these two mods as I would love to make it a little easier.
Also thanks to a454nova for pointing out that if you force stop the phone app it will remove the notification and the icon until you reboot. I still like having icon modded to be clear so action isn't required after a reboot until you want to remove the notification.
Oh and I am not responsible for anything... at all... ever... unless it was good, that stuff is all my fault.
Yeah I forgot to mention if somethings missing it won't work properly

Yes, the notification will remain. Like you said its the status bar icon that bugs me the most as well.
Hmm, this might make me more willing to use CM9, however I've been hearing a lot of people are having battery issues. It's great that we have a temporary fix though and I'll be sure to use this method in updated versions.
I'm wondering if it's possible to locate the "Hide VM Notifications" feature in CM7, and try to port it over ourselves? I don't really have the experience, but it would be pretty helpful and would get rid of the notification in the dropdown menu as well.
Go into Titanium Backup, backup and uninstall the phone app. (I backed up the "Voicemail" [Phone 4.0.3...] and deleted it)
this will clear the voice mail anything...
restore the app and your good!

That's not the type of notification this mod addresses. On non android phones your voicemail notification comes from a specially formatted text message sent from the carrier to your phone. No its not that funky one you get when visual voicemail isn't installed either. Its a class 0 message in cshp format that triggers your message waiting indicator. Its a relic left over from voicemail systems that were used before we got android phones that were not cleared out. Touchwiz roms ignore them but aosp roms do not because some carriers use them.

You say they are from an old system. The only phone I have ever had on sprint is android. Yet I still have six phantom vm. So either its still in use or it has carried over from before I was on sprint with the number I was given.

did your previous android phone on sprint have visual voicemail? If not perhaps that is the reason.
The message waiting indicator stuff in android SMS message is where this is happening. CPHS is the format.

Camera app disappeared

Hi, I'm new in this forum and also I'm a new android user. I got this phone yesterday and it came with the 4.1.2 update, it is working fine and all, but today something strange happened, my phone freezes up while I was watching a video, it rebooted itself and then, the camera app was gone, and the gallery app also seems to have disappeared, although they both appear on the settings/apps menu. I would like to know what can I do to solve this, please as I don't understand this system well.

Are you using a custom launcher? Most custom launches have the ability to hide apps in the app drawer. Check in the launcher settings for an unhide option.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Go to the app menu where you see the apps. Touch and hold your finger on the app for a second or 2 that you want back on one of your home pages. The home pages should show up and simply drag the app where ever you want it. Move your apps around like this and you can change the apps on the bar on the bottom of the screen the same way.

[Q] Slow Share menu

Since the most recent update, my Share menu takes a long time to come up when I share a link from apps. Apps I can duplicate the issue with (because I use them all the time) are Reddit Sync Pro and Reddit Now, but it seems to be system-wide. It takes a good 5-10 seconds for the share menu to come up.
I cleared Dalvik and cache and the issue persists. Once, I took a screenshot and when I tapped "share" in the notification shade, it rebooted the phone. Is anyone else experiencing anything like this? There's nothing else weird on my phone. I don't have Xposed or anything. It's just rooted.
I installed the application "appchooser" as a replacement for the system app chooser and now it's back to being fast like it was, but I'm trying to confirm whether or not anyone else has seen this issue after the update, as it's definitely something i have never seen before.
No issues here
I just performed the same steps and my share menu options come up for me instantly, but the only options I have beside the default are Skype and LINE. I would suggest trying to uninstall the Reddit apps, then try again and see if it's still slow. If that resolves it, I would write to the developer of the Reddit app and make them aware of the behavior.

Thanks. The thing is, it was coming up instantly in both apps before the Cyanogenmod update. And it's weird that it wouldn't affect a share app replacement like appchooser.

Quite... I'm on 30O as well. It's a rather bizarre issue isn't it. Nonetheless, I'd try what I recommended first. This is the troubleshooting process mate. It's a process of elimination.
I have two One's both updated to 4.4.4 and both share functions are messed up. It's definitely the software. Here's how I came to that conclusion. One of my phones is stock everything, no mods and or root. I took the ota the conventional way. The share feature no matter what app I'm using displays an black screen. The second phone is modded, rooted, custom recovery, and it was updated manually using Caulk's modded files. Its share function does exactly the same thing as the non modded phone does. It worked fine on 4.4.2

Report the issue on the official CM site so the developers can look into it.

You should be able to set it as your default app chooser. I did.
I have been trying to find that option in settings but don't see it, I see the set SMS app. Usually on a TW or non CM ROM it always asks you the default app but it didn't ask me. Maybe I'll try clearing defaults and see if that helps.

Nah. The first time you share something after you install it, you should have the "always" and "just once" options.
Strange because Google Chrome doesn't give me that option. I understand what your saying. What I did was installed a different browser and sure enough it asked which default app I wanted to use. So I cleared Chrome and same as before it doesn't ask me for the default app. So I think it might be the updated chrome.

OK, so honest question... What's wrong with the built-in chooser? I mean, what's the advantage to using a third-party one? I generally prefer to run as close to native as possibly for performance reasons and to avoid bugs just like this one.

Did you read ANY of the thread? The bug is in the stock chooser, at least for us. We're only using a third party one to circumvent the bug.
To answer your question, the only real advantage otherwise is that you can remove things you don't want to see on your share menu. So, if you NEVER share to Google+, for instance, you can remove it so it doesn't show up as an option. You can restore these later, if you want them back.

Nice! Glad you got it working. I use Chrome Beta as my default browser.
I misunderstood then because I thought it was the app you were having issues with. In that case, I refer back to my first reply. I am also using the stock chooser and have not had this issue after updating, so it seems it's not universal. For whatever reason you guys got the bug while I did not.

It's amazing how much damage theming does. It even causes issues with Play Store.
Yeah, sadly there are some issues, but this is the biggest I found.
How long does the share menu need to show up on your phones? On my OPO it needs about 1 sec in chrome and under 1 sec in every other app.
I have a feeling that the menu opened quicker before...

I'm having this issue too and its so frustrating. It started happening when I updated to Marshmallow. I'm using the default theme, so it's probably not what causes it for me. Sharing from Youtube isn't slow though, but that's a different menu I guess.
Any suggestions?
