Hello, I just got this device and noticed that the screen has a warm/yellow tint to it.
If the phone is on a flat surface and I'm looking at it at an angle then the color look cooler, looking at it head on the colors are warmer.
Is this normal? If not can I exchange the phone at a Verizon store?
You should be able to return it to a staoe within 30 days after that they will mail you a (probably) refurb. There is some variance from one amoled to another, but a full on yellow tint shouldn't be there.

Too much of an hassle, I downloaded Screen Adjuster and used that to fix the tint instead.
Or you could do that lol. Personally I would not have taken a phone with a quality issue.

Honestly is wasn't that big of an issue, its only noticeably under fluorescent lights. I didn't want to risk with getting a refurb unit with different issues.

So my first Transformer had minor light bleed along one edge of the screen. If I were to gently twist the tablet the bleed would fluctuate. I returned it and found that I had the only Transformer in my area so I could not get a replacement. I ended up ordering online last night.
My question is: Do all it these things have minor light bleed? If not, what are the chances my next one will have it? Or better yet the chances of me finding a remedy?
Can a few of you comment on your experiences with your own tablets please? The way I checked for it was to cover the camera sensor and take a picture. Turn the brightness all the way up and go into a dark room to look at that all black picture I just took in fullscreen mode.

My first two have had more-than-minor light bleed. I should have my third on Monday. If that one has light bleed I'll start to consider giving up on the TF.
All of them have more or less light bleed I think. Mine also have some. You can see it at the bootscreen with the asus logo.
light bleed on ips screens are very common..
I have gone through 3 of them and they all had some light bleed. I don't believe anyone that says they don't have any. They just haven't maxed out brightness, put on a black wallpaper, and gone to a completely dark room.
i have a very minor light bleed- not enough to even worry.
You can check by using the nook book app and seting a book to night read mode.
Did not want to worry about sending it out to take a chance on getting another with minor light bleed or even worse light bleed. as well i had not other probs with it so why chance it.
That doesn't mean anyone else's bleed is not worse...so it is a case by case. choice.
good luck.
I guarantee you your next TF will have some light bleed. Whether it is better or worse, is a different story.
Thank you for all of the replies. I may consider the galaxy 10.1

It is not the fact that it is an IPS screen, but the fact that it is Edge-lit to keep it thin/cheap.

Very much so. Guys...seriously stop whining about the light bleeding. It is not that important. 99% of them do this no matter what tablet you use. So just deal with it and use your new toy.
I don't have any light bleed on my tf. I'm in the UK. I must be lucky !
it really does depend on the amount of bleed though. The one I had was very severe on the bottom (in landscape). It didn't have to be dark at all to see it.
Hello everyone, i got my nexus 5 a few days ago. And i noticed some light bleeding, is this considered "acceptable" light bleeding for the N5? Im thinking that if i rma it, i might get one with worse light bleeding and maybe other issues too. Do all N5 have this issue? Or mine is not that noticeable to go for rma?
It would be very difficult to get a nexus 5 without lightbleed of varying degrees. Its a common trait of LCD technology
You can only ask yourself if it is acceptable. To me it is. You would find it almost impossible to get one without bleed. That said, you may get one with less but then by the same token, what does it really matter? If you wanted the screen to be dark in a dark room, LCD could never achieve that without an LED backlight system.

I think it's fine and not worth the RMA unless you just have to have that perfect device.
Depends how noticeable it is to you under normal usage conditions. Generally we don't use our phones in the dark with max brightness, but if it's bothering you in day to day usage then it might be worth trying a new one.
Not horrible as my RMA's Nexus 5 lol
Comes with the territory. If you feel black should be real black on your phone, get one with an amoled display type. But that technology comes with its own disadvantages like burning in pixels.
You'll have to decide for yourself what's most important to you.

We have our own "image persistence" issues with lcd too

I had the screen bleed issue on my Gnex as well, even though it is AMOLED. Haven't noticed it really on the N5 though.
You cannot have backlight bleeding with an amoled display: they don't have a backlight.

Well I don't know what to tell ya because it did have it. The whole screen when black would have a glow to it. I don't know if you could technically call it light bleed but it looked like one of the pictures in this thread.
I think if the bleed just slight in the minor region.. accept it and enjoy your phone unless it somewhat major defect..
Trying hard to find a tiny bit of defect on this Nexus 5 beat the purpose of buying the awesome phone or we called it the developer phone..

Personally I never have my screen on full brightness unless its super sunny out. So I don't ever really see the bleed. However. Whatbi see in your pictures is two corners bleeding. I only have one corner bleeding. Back when I repaired phones I got this a lot with the HTC amaze. There is a 4 corner rule. If you get bleed on all for corners. Send it in. And I mean bleed. Not fade.

Yes, there and where the volume rocker is.
Top left corner here as well, not going to RMA. It wouldn't most likely change anything; bleeds are more like a feature.
Hey there. I noticed that two of my friends with Nexus 5s have a different looking screen compared to mine. Specifically I notice this when I pull down the notification shade and instead of showing a dark black, theirs show a washed out grey. I really want to know what is going on here because I need to return my phone for a couple issues, phone calls cutting in and out, I believe on of the speakers is blown, and the volume toggle indicator wont show itself moving up and down sometimes. I am concerned though, because I really really dont want to get a phone with the washed out greys again like I had with the Nexus 4. My Nexus 5 is NOT rooted and neither are the two phones which my friends own(the ones with the washed out grey as opposed to the dark black).
Anyways, thanks for your time.
I hope to get this answered shortly.
One of the speakers? There's only one
LCD has backlight. Brighter screen, greyer blacks

There are different variables of screen, we discovered this when franco made his kernel colour tunable as people were making profiles that would give perfect 2.2 gamma for some yet be miles out all over the show for others

The majority (all?) of Nexus 5 screens appear to be considerably more yellow then they were originally. Just about every person who's had their device replacement side by side with their original one have agreed the new one has yellowed whites in comparison. This could cause duller looking colours and grayish blacks.
Does it go away as the "glue dries"? Perhaps. Most likely upon losing the original model for comparison their eyes will slowly adjust to the warmer colour temperature eventually leading to the claim that the yellowness is gone, but having no original screen to compare.
That's just my opinion on the situation though and of course I could be wrong, but it's the main reason I won't RMA for a replacement device. 7000k (original) colour temp is already plenty warm for my liking.
i saw a post whether it was here or a different website. someone posted about a yellowish tint. i never noticed it until my roommate got a phone after i did. after looking at his phone, his looked alittle whiter than mine and knew based on the post i may have gotten a yellowish defective screen.
i went on order support chat and explained to them that i ordered this phone at the end of october and that it appears defective. at first they were willing to replace it for me either by sending it to them and they send me another or pay a fee for an advanced exchange and they send me one first.
i explained i purchased this 2 weeks ago and it should still be covered. after which they gave me a code to get a new one without charge. so i ordered the phone and clearly saw a difference that i felt compelled to send to everyone here my results. please refer to the attachments to see the difference.
this could be the reason why battery life was 2 hours of screentime, but i havent had time to test the new ones battery till now
+1 my phone is having the yellow tint and i don't think here in India it is easy to get the phone replaced! i raised a compliant with FlipKart(the online retailer) and they have given me a 2 weeks ETA.
so what i did also install this screen balance app and improved my white balance and it feels better or I have kind of got used to the yellow tint.
when i put my iPhone 6 next to the my Moto X, i can see that Moto X has a yellow screen! wish it was better...
Good luck getting this replaced if you unlocked your bootloader, despite this is clearly unrelated to the bootloader unlocking!!
Honestly, I like to having yellow tint at someday. It giving my eyes easier to using device.
But having a defective device is like cancer affect lifespan. I'd replace defective devices.
There's so many phones out there with that yellow tint. I had to replace Four!!! MXPE s to get a normal white screen..
So yes, what I expect from my hypothesis was correct and my battery is much better

Thanks for this post. I ordered mine from Amazon on wed, got it on thurs and immediately noticed the yellow'ish whites on it. I couldn't get past it so contacted amazon and got an overnighted replacement. To my luck the new one did not have the yellowish screen issue, white is now white. But I've read a bunch of posts on this and they seem to be correct. It's not a defective panel so much as it is a wrong color calibration. I tested this by downloading a screen adjuster app (Screen Adjuster FREE) and adding more blue to the screen calibration and to my surprise the colors looked white again. However, I shouldn't have to use an app to accomplish that. It should be done correctly from the start.
For those who are rooted and running a cm based rom, this may help.

I got a Pixel 2 (non XL), but the screen had kind of a reddish yellow tint, so I sent it back for a replacement, and the replacement also had kind of a tint. I looked at the Pixel at Best Buy, and the screen appeared to be the same, so now I think it might be normal, but before I sent in the first Pixel 2 I received, I asked on reddit about the tint, and someone said that if it got more yellow when you set it to saturated, you should send it in, and it did. When I set the new device in saturated, it gets slightly warmer/more yellow, so is this normal? I talked to Support, and they said it was normal, but I'm wondering if your phone does it too.

Whites appear more yellow on this device vs an LCD screen. It only gets more yellow as you switch to saturated mode. The pixel 2 did not have a dull color issue like the XL version, so there is no need to use the saturated mode. Use the boosted mode and you'll be happy and colors will look more natural.
Both the original Pixel 2 I got and the replacement have slight reddish tints near the top of the screen when viewing a white background. Is this normal? I think the Pixel 2 I saw at Best Buy might have had it too.
The reddish/pinkish tint is mainly in the top of the screen, and I tried to take a picture of it, but it wouldn't show up. It bugs me when, so I might return it and get a OnePlus 5t.
