Pixel 2 non xl screen in saturated - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

I got a Pixel 2 (non XL), but the screen had kind of a reddish yellow tint, so I sent it back for a replacement, and the replacement also had kind of a tint. I looked at the Pixel at Best Buy, and the screen appeared to be the same, so now I think it might be normal, but before I sent in the first Pixel 2 I received, I asked on reddit about the tint, and someone said that if it got more yellow when you set it to saturated, you should send it in, and it did. When I set the new device in saturated, it gets slightly warmer/more yellow, so is this normal? I talked to Support, and they said it was normal, but I'm wondering if your phone does it too.

Whites appear more yellow on this device vs an LCD screen. It only gets more yellow as you switch to saturated mode. The pixel 2 did not have a dull color issue like the XL version, so there is no need to use the saturated mode. Use the boosted mode and you'll be happy and colors will look more natural.

Both the original Pixel 2 I got and the replacement have slight reddish tints near the top of the screen when viewing a white background. Is this normal? I think the Pixel 2 I saw at Best Buy might have had it too.

The reddish/pinkish tint is mainly in the top of the screen, and I tried to take a picture of it, but it wouldn't show up. It bugs me when, so I might return it and get a OnePlus 5t.

Yellowish tint on screen

I just got my One S a few days back. Everything seems amazing except for the screen.
I noticed that the screen appears a little yellowish as compared to my previous desire. There is like a yellow tint to it when I view the screen directly. However when I tilt the screen a little, the colours become normal and the tint is gone.
Has anyone experienced the same problem on their One S?
I have have three ones in the family, and every one of them has a different color tint, and one red, one blue, the other seems to be ok. I guess there isn't much consistency.

[Q] Nexus 5 question about greys and blacks

Hey there. I noticed that two of my friends with Nexus 5s have a different looking screen compared to mine. Specifically I notice this when I pull down the notification shade and instead of showing a dark black, theirs show a washed out grey. I really want to know what is going on here because I need to return my phone for a couple issues, phone calls cutting in and out, I believe on of the speakers is blown, and the volume toggle indicator wont show itself moving up and down sometimes. I am concerned though, because I really really dont want to get a phone with the washed out greys again like I had with the Nexus 4. My Nexus 5 is NOT rooted and neither are the two phones which my friends own(the ones with the washed out grey as opposed to the dark black).
Anyways, thanks for your time.
I hope to get this answered shortly.
One of the speakers? There's only one
LCD has backlight. Brighter screen, greyer blacks

There are different variables of screen, we discovered this when franco made his kernel colour tunable as people were making profiles that would give perfect 2.2 gamma for some yet be miles out all over the show for others

The majority (all?) of Nexus 5 screens appear to be considerably more yellow then they were originally. Just about every person who's had their device replacement side by side with their original one have agreed the new one has yellowed whites in comparison. This could cause duller looking colours and grayish blacks.
Does it go away as the "glue dries"? Perhaps. Most likely upon losing the original model for comparison their eyes will slowly adjust to the warmer colour temperature eventually leading to the claim that the yellowness is gone, but having no original screen to compare.
That's just my opinion on the situation though and of course I could be wrong, but it's the main reason I won't RMA for a replacement device. 7000k (original) colour temp is already plenty warm for my liking.

How many of you actually have a display tint issue?

My display is green-tinted quite a bit, I didn't notice the exact problem at first because my display wasn't too warm or too cool, it just looked odd. I only realized it as I went to tweak the display options, reducing the green slider by about 80% brings my display to the correct tint, where the whites are the same as real life whites. Red and blue are correct in my display, those don't need any tint correction
My tint is really a non-issue because it can be fixed completely with the sliders, but it seems like a lot of people are having problems with their displays on the S8, compared to the S7. Have any of you had these similar issues, even small ones like mine?
'Real life whites', yeah but based on what? Most 'white' things arent white, they are blue tinted. Real white is quite creamy and slightly green to some eyes. Do you have any pictures?
My orchid had it bad. Took back for exchange and took three tries to get one without it. Bought at BestBuy, red tint that is.
I didn't notice anything yet that is close to "That's odd!".

There has already been a poll here on this, it came back at about 20% had red tint.

I didn't even notice the tint until it was being reported. I lined up all my phones and just opened up a white page and u could definitely see more reddish hue on the S8+. I simply used the slider to adjust. Problem that I didn't know I had - gone.
slightly redish on top and right side. rest is fine. I'm not sure if I wanna turn it back in. AT&T said if I returned it it was a restocking fee. but can I just go to them and exchange?
Mine have the red screen tint even after the update, and if I try that fix and put it on cold and reduce the red, I see some rainbow effect on the edges, more proeminent on the left side and top, and it still have some reddish tint on low left corner, and that completely messes with my eyes...
I've had an S7 Edge and never experienced any of this problems, I was with it yesterday and it was amazing compared to this S8+. It's a shame that samsung have such a poor screens on this flagship.

Screen Artifacts when displaying gray images on lowest brightness

Hello guys,
I'm an owner for an Exynos S8+.
Phone has some red tint but that doesn't bother me much.
However, yesterday I noticed a new problem, while I was in bed, with all lights down and at lowest brightness, I noticed gray images displayed are darker on the right half of the screen than the left.
Some sort of artifacts show up and the screen looks all smudged.
So my question to you is,
can you open this image http://imgur.com/a/vXjac on lowest brightness and on a completely dark room and tell me if you see any smudges on your screen. You can also drop the notification shade down to make the supposedly artifacts more visible.
I believe those "smudges" are created by just how the amoled panel is made / works, since all my amoled devices (including the S8+) have those when viewing in the dark. It was worse on my old phone (S6E+), and you could also see the "smudges" in sunlight as vertical lines of more light and more dark up and down the screen.

But can you see it on your S8/S8+?
I tried the same image under the same conditions on my S7Edge and it doesn't happen.
As it stands, my S8+ showing that image on lowest brightness and dark room has the right half of the screen darker than the left side wtih smudges in between.
Looks horrible and I'm not sure I can get it replaced.
I had this issue before last time when purchasing the Tab S 2. I went back to shop ask them go in the completely dark room and show them. They exchange a new one for me.
If your phone had no constant display of dark grey, I suggest you bring back to shop for changing.

So, when you replicate my issue on your S8+, you have a clear dark grey image without any colour distortion?
I'm going to the store tomorrow but I'm afraid they'll send it in for warranty instead of trading it in for a new one.

Yup clear dark grey without any distortion.
I suggest you go back store and exchange it. Just use demo set to proof it no such issue.

Redish screen or edges

Hey. Do u also have problem with sgs8/8+ and their red screen or even pink ??
On the internet i can see that many clients has this problem and samsung says that "this must be like it is"... so ?
Do we have #PinkGate??
My samsung have also redish whole screen.
Nothing ? No one ?
Yeah, i returned mine. Top half of screen was red. Bottom half was green. Any screen mode other than adaptive just made it worse.
Dud u get new one without this crap ? Or u just wanna cash back ??
I've exchanged 4 with my cell provider before getting a perfect one
Was just about to post a similar topic, think I'm going to be taking this one back today, my first one had a red hue down the sides and this one appears to have a pink lower half that I am trying to live with but cannot...
My first one was perfect but it had broken speaker. Then had to try another two to finally get acceptable one. Not perfect, it goes pink-ish on specific angle, but it's not that bad. I really suggest to buy those phones in store so you can check it and save yourself some time.
this problem was addressed and fixed by an update as far as i know...

It's a hardware problem, so it can't be fixed by software. All the update did was allow you to mess with the RGB sliders and it's only available in the "Adaptive Display" mode. This option doesn't help if your display has multiple different hues such as a top reddish hue and a bottom greenish hue. It also is in "Adaptive Display" mode which is the least colour accurate mode.
This is a well-documented issue, like anything AMOLED, there can be a lot of variation from panel to panel. You should be able to go to the retailer and swap it out.

So it was just another"marketing stunt" by samsung.mine doesn't have it but reading about it when I first got my s8+,thought it was a software problem.thanks for the clarification
On my third S8+ due to pink hues on the display. My fourth should be delivered on Monday. Fingers crossed that it has a good screen and won't have to be exchanged.

In my opinion, this is ridiculus - cuz this phone costs really a lot of money and samsung dont give a **** about customers and samsungs problem with screen. Samsung is mocking to telling us that "update" will solve "your" Problem.
Im from Poland and here samsung store says "its a advantage of this PRODUCT"...... crapy telling
My device has a pretty messed up display, to the point where the software controls that Samsung has added are just enough to solve the problem. I have the cool / warm slider all the way to the right (warm), because this cancels out the green tint a bit. From advanced settings I have the green slider at about 20%, the red slider at about 80%, and the blue slider at 100%.
And because this wasn't enough, the display has a warm glow at the edges. Thankfully, Samsung has a software solution for this, and it works by adding a cool tint at the edges to counter-act the warm tint. But this solution isn't perfect, as the warm tint disappears when the display is looked at in an angle, and the blue software-added tint becomes visible.
I haven't returned my device because the problem is fully solvable through software, although I am a bit disappointed that a phone that cost over $900 has problems that the user has to put effort in to solve.
Had to go through 4 phones from my carrier before getting a perfect screen even tilting the phone I have no red and in any display mode no red or pink at all... there should not be a bandaid fix for a 900$ phone... having to adjust settings is gonna hurt resale value also

It's not "fully" solvable through software. The appearance of the display changes when tilted, just as you said. I'm really hopeful that the replacement I receive via UPS tomorrow has a quality display. Even after playing with the advanced display settings on and off for days, I cannot get rid of the heavy pink tint at the bottom of my current (3rd) phone's display. It's a real shame.
Well, my fourth device arrived today and it's basically as bad as all of the others. This time it has an even pink tint along every edge of the display. This is getting old. I really hope that this issue doesn't carry over to the Note 8.
I went through 4 Nexus 6Ps to find one that had an even screen tone. This is a problem faced by all AMOLED screen. My S8+ isnt the best but it's not that bad either.

I've had the Galaxy SIII, two S4's, S5, Note 4, two Note Edges, two Note 5's, S7, two S7 Edge's, three Note 7's, three Gear Fit2's, two Gear S3's and four S8+'s. All AMOLED displays.
The ONLY one with which I've had problems is the S8+. This is NOT a problem with ALL AMOLED displays. This is clearly a manufacturing defect with the S8, as can be evidenced by Samsung's OTA that adds "corrective" features to the advanced display settings. Please don't try to make excuses for them.

I agree it's bad and shouldn't be happening and my S8 screen isn't entirely uniform but as I said, the 6Ps I had and Nexus 6 was terrible for it too.

Mine had a slight pinkish tint to the bottom of it, but i dialed *#15987# on the phone and then pressed 3 to set it to -9 overall... this appears to do the trick for me.
