Just purchased a brand new Galaxy S6 32GB FLAT in white today. Right out of the box, especially on a white background, I noticed that the bottom half of the screen shifts into a more warmer tone. It's most visible on a white background, where i can actually see the transition between the two colour tones. Other colours are affected too, but not as noticeable. Please refer to the attached screenshots, (Ignore the diagonal lines running across the screen, caused by the camera artefact).
My question is, is it normal? Can you please check yours and provide feedback? Thanks in advance
I have the same
Its a common issue. But it shouldnt be like that. You should get a replacement

Dude this isnt severe. Ive seen enough amoled displays having worse tints and stripes. Yours is much better than them. If I was you, I wouldnt settle for this. Replace it or get a refund. I have severe ocd about my phone. I need it to be perfect. Luckily the S6 that I have has a very good display. A perfect one. Get a replacement asap. This isnt something normal.
Im ordering my 2nd replacemeny soon. My first one was yellowish and uneven like yours. My current one has a horrible pink tint. Try 3
Welcome to the club: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/getting-replacement-s6-due-to-screen-t3074865
I took my phone back to the Samsung store and got it replaced by the manager there. The screen looked fine when i first looked at it in store, but soon after taking it home i realised that this second unit has a yellowish tint on the right side of the screen. Going back tomorrow for another replacement.... SIGH!!!!!
My third replacement from the Samsung Exp Store is.... a KEEPER! This unit has a much better even backlight and meets my expectation! After going through that trouble, i'm happy to say that I'm a a happy camper

Looks all right to me, but then again we all perceive things differently. My current unit is not perfect, there's still a green/blue tint to it, but it's tolerable. If you cannot tolerate it, then keep exchanging until you find one that you can tolerate with. Keep in mind though that you won't find a unit with 100% even colour hue; it's the limitation with AMOLED displays. All the best!
I have the same issue
I have the same, but much less severe than yours seem to be. I don't notice it at all with normal use, only super slightly on bright white screens. If it really looks like it does on the photo, I would get it replaced.

Light bars on black wallpaper
I have the following issue on black wallpapers. On top and bottom there is a lighter bar. This appears only after applying the wallpaper.Viewing them with Quickpick there are no bars.Same in Nova and TW after applying it.Tried attaching a screen but the bars are not captured. What could it be,a ROM issue,a low DPI?I have the DPI set to low. Also on brighter pics you can't see the bars ,after applying which makes sense.
White uniformity - Is this the jelly effect and is it normal?
I got a really good deal on a used Tab S6 from Amazon and I love the tablet but there is weird tinting thing happening on white screens.
When viewed slightly off-axis the tint goes blue.
Makes me nuts when reading NY TImes and edges of white screen are tinted blue.
The effect changes when viewed at different angles and seen without screen protector. It is tough to photograph but hopefully you can see what I see.
Ignore the moire in the middle of the first shot - that's a screen protector... Look at extreme edges of screen.
Thanks and pardon me if this has been answered before - I've searched and couldn't find this issue.
Hi all,
i got a problem with my display.
The brightness/illumination on display when displaying content with white background is from what I see not correct.
A certain part in the middle of my display is clearly more illuminated then the rest. But only when showing the color white.
I did the diagnosis test in the menus and here it occurred again.
Does anybody have the same issue?
Is this a display problem so I have to change my phone? Or is this just a calibration problem?
Thanks in advance
I have the same problem on my z5 Dual. White backgrounds and the screen brightness increases. Not sure why this is.

Does it do the same in manual brightness mode? If so, you probably got a faulty screen .

If so yes in manual mode too
Here i made a photo of my display.

I have exactly the same white spot on my black Z5, even in the same location. Very annoying, especially when scrolling through Facebook, Twitter and other apps with white background. On my iPhone 6S which I also use the screen is perfect.

You got a bright patch in the middle too - interesting. Maybe you could take this picture again vertically (without tilt & finger smudges) in a dark room ? I never saw 100% uniform white on any LCD & Amoled mobile screen, but yours don't look acceptable.

But this is definitely a defect screen. The bright patch in the middle is really annoying when scrolling
I returned mine today, the bright patch in the center together with all other issues was just too much. Got an S6 Edge+ instead, same weight but much larger and much better looking screen.
I have the same issue, but Sonys repair shop say there is nothing wrong which I refuse to accept. See my reply in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/help/xperia-z5-backlight-unevenness-t3229903

I'm in Singapore and on my second Z5 and there is still this unevenness in the backlight. The first set was more obvious and in the middle which was really irritating. This second one has two minor spots but they sort of form a line to the middle of the screen. It's kind of disappointing that the QC level of this product is so ****ty. Two straight out of shrink-wrapped boxes!
They are also from two revisions; the tray is different on both of mine... on the first set it was stupid with the microsim and sd slot on opposite sides meaning you had to slide one in half way to keep the sim card in before putting in the SD card. The second one made more sense with both the sim card and sd card on the same side.
I'm still pondering if I should bring it down to the telco to make another change...sigh.
guys my z5 had display but no backlight, I have bypassed the "V" and "A" both fuses still theres no backlight can anyone help?
Hello fellow XDA members,
In the past I started some threads regarding Samsung AMOLED display quality, especially for the Note devices.
Please see here if you are interessted:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/note4-amoled-screen-quality-t2906365
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2463786
Now, with the S8+ (and the S8, the problem is the same), even the media recognized the display problems, known as "red tint", just google for it!
Samsung tells the people that this is due to wrong settings, and/or the adaptive display setting turned on! THIS IS NOT THE CASE!!!
I got 2 pieces of S8+ today, and both displays are not OK. One screen has the red tint issue, but only on the upper half of the screen.
The other device has no red tint, but is generally darker and looks more "washed out" and has a slight yellow tint.
So again the display lottery is back, it is only "luck of the draw" if you get a decent screen or not!!!
If you do not believe me just compare a few devices beneath each other with the exact same display settings. Turn adaptive display off, then go into the dialer and type *#0*#, with this you ensure the brightness settings are the same and you have the same sceen content on both devices. You will notice that every single device has a different screen quality (tint, evenness, ...)
What do you say? Acceptable or not?
With all of us over at the tmobile shipping thread we've been waiting and crying and hoping that we get our devices early....and then when we finally got our devices ****ty things like red tint leaves a sour taste in our mouths..sad really, samsung already made this device feel rushed with all the Bixby and fingerprint scanner awkward positioning and what did we do after the note 7 debacle? We forgave these fools...and now this?....i do feel bad for those that actually paid full retail price for these expensive devices and to unbox and realize the screen is pink...that right there is not how to say forgive us for our mistakes instead a huge f u to all the customers who were unlucky enough to get such a horrible display color....but I will say I won the lottery because out of the box my s8plus came out nice no red pinkish tint whites are white...but why am I still pissed? Because my note 4 was the same whites were white and then after a year or so my eyes were fixed on a strange color that was taking up half of the screen that came out of nowhere...so yes I will be forever paranoid with sammys displays now....if my s8plus came in like that I don't think I would've came back....but then again I'm here lol
Settle down guys, this will likely be fixed with a future fw given the attention its gotten, this is pretty simple for samsung to fix actually, all samsung needs to do is what video games have been doing for years; offer the user an option to calibrate based a sample image. Once thats in, the presets can be established based off of those generated values from the user selection.
It seems like they will indeed need to implement a fix of this sorts, because it does seem the displays hue varys from device to device.
Anyways, for the most part, I hardly notice it and it seems even, and the more I look at it, the more i can't make sense out of it? Seems to play tricks on my eyes... lol.
Beautiful phone and display though!

This is a hardware problem, a real software fix IS NOT POSSIBLE!!!
Samsung can only try to cammo the problem with increasing the range of the color-sliders in the display settings, so that you can turn down red more then now. But this wont fix that the red tint is NOT EVEN ACROSS THE DISPLAY!!
What else proves that this is a hardware error is that if you put 5 devices next to each other (with the exact same settings), each of them will look different in regard to screen quality! Believe me, I know what I'm talking about, see my previous threads regarding that!
I agree that it should be even otherwise you may have a hardware problem but my concern is your criticism has more to do with amoled in gerneral and what we are observing is a consequence of the tech used. Samsung is also pushing the boundries here too with the display tech so the norms for amoled to compare to may not even apply anymore. And your comment to my comment regarding masking the problem, there is a reason why every display on the planet has picture settings.. right? No 2 displays are exactly the same...
I just went through the crap with my Surface Pro 4 too, trust me, they are a good example of no 2 displays alike, must have went though at least 11 Surface Pro 4 on my mission for perfection display and I had to give up in the end because truth is, its still an awesome device!

Absolutely unacceptable reasoning. They shouldn't be putting out a product if the "early batches" are DEFECTIVE
Obviously it's a QC problem, which they seem to have some fairly big issues with, over and over.. They will lose customer faith if they keep doing this ****

Perhaps but then again why did you buy a phone from samsung in the first place?.....
I was in the Samsung store yesterday for the launch party. They had 3 S8+ on display next to eachother. Each was running the exact same retail mode, showing the exact same content at the exact same time.
One display was white, one was red hued, and one was pee yellow.
(No, it wasn't display calibration settings, I checked).
There are definitely quality control issues.

And which of the 3 do you have?
I noticed a slight pinkish tint when the shipping screen protector was on, but looks ok without it.
Something slightly different this year is there seems to be a pink tinge on all four sides of the display (top, bottom, left and right). It's a very consistent along the sides of the screen and very noticeable, a few people here have also noticed it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/red-tint-screen-t3592335
So it's not just another pink/yellow/blue/green spotty tinge problem, theres now uniformity with the example i've provided.
I've got the S8+ and the screen is not red at all. The left and right edges if anything have a slight blueish tone to them but I believe this to be the effect of the screen curving to the sides distorting the colour (Colour shift?).
Unless you have bought one and have the problem with it, you have no right to complain.
cantenna said:

Mine had a very slight pink tinge when I got it, at the very top and bottom (maybe half the status bar thickness), and it's since gone way.
The over all display color was a little too warm for my liking, so I knocked the red slider down to half, and now it's fine.
Got me and the wife one yesterday from At&t. No red tint and best phone yet. I love it.
My display is freaking beautiful and I love the fingerprint location. I never had any trouble. My finger finds it very naturally

I have an S8+ as per my posts in the other thread, so I have a right to complain.
Firstly, it could well be fixed by software, even if its uneven, HTC had issues with the camera doing this a number of years ago (big red spot in all pictures). It was fixed with software
Secondly, it might disappear with time. AMOLED, OLED and other self lighting technologies (like Plasma in TVs) have a bed in time, where some colour ranges need to burn in. I would suggest a full red screen using a screen tester app for a few hours, to see if it beds in the red.
Guys, I would like to take this device, there is a possibility of having a faded display?
Its still there right out of the box. $800+ for a gorgeous Midnight black T-Mobile Galaxy S8. I swipe down the notification shade to mess with settings and I can't help, but notice the subtle, but very existent, yellowish tint on the top right 1/3rd of my display compared to the slightly reddish bottom 2/3rds.
The white background on the notification is not all white. Any solid color white or grey background and you can notice that there is a yellowish and pinkish hue in certain areas of the display. This is extremely distracting and almost nauseating when reading an article and as you read the white background starts shifting color from yellowish white to a pinkish white.
We had same issues with GS6 and GS7. PANEL LOTTERY! I had to exchange my S7 about 4-5 times in order to get a unit without Screen defects. its 2017 and the S8 has the same damn issue that we've been reporting to Samsung, they don't care because some average consumers don't notice it or assume thats just how the phone is. Well I don't take lightly to defects and anomalies when I'm paying this much. Its very annoying that this SUPER AMOLED display attached to a near $1k price tag lacks the quality assurance it should have. it can't even display a full even white or grey screen.
Time to exchange and make a youtube video about it I suppose. I'll post pictures when I get home from work.

As frustrating as it is its still a very new device to the market all different manufacturers be it a mobile device or something else the first run will always have a 50/50 chance of issues its bound to happen. By no means am I be littling your post all im saying is things as annoying as this is bound to happen. I read somewhere that Samsung will be possibly issuing a software fix for this display issues but I cannot confirm for sure. Today is the official release of the device I did hear that stores are not issuing replacements just yet.

Samsung offers software update to fix red display issue
http://www.zdnet.com/video/samsung-offers-software-update-to-fix-red-display-issue/
This isn't a software issue trust me. It is a fault in the production of the OLED panels. This has been going on for nearly 3 years! They just don't care.
yes and the forthcoming software update fix ,the red color will be on zero exactly like if you do it yourself in the menu.
If the screen is uniformly red then it can be masked with a green filter applied to the entire screen. There are 3rd party apps that can do this such as ScreenEqualizer.
Non-uniformity is a different issue altogether and can't be fixed or masked. I have it on both my S6E and my S8. The S6 release dubbed the issue "pink-gate" and it attracted much more attention but ultimately nothing was done about it.
I thought that after the Note 7 flop they won't risk anything like this but i can confirm that my mighty black S8+ has this defect too. Frustrating because i was unlucky with the S4 and S5 although the replaced the screen for a great on each device and after several unsuccessfull attempt but last year the S7E was absolutely flawless so i was optimistic for the S8, especially regarding the note 7, that is MUST be a flafless, highest quality product but it failed miserably.
I had these issues on my S6, N5, and N7. You cant correct a screen if the color issue is not uniform. I had to return every single phone multiple times to get an acceptable screen.
What i find is weird is, my Pixel Xl was absolutly perfect, and im pretty sure they source their screens from samsung.

Hey. Do u also have problem with sgs8/8+ and their red screen or even pink ??
On the internet i can see that many clients has this problem and samsung says that "this must be like it is"... so ?
Do we have #PinkGate??
My samsung have also redish whole screen.
Nothing ? No one ?
Yeah, i returned mine. Top half of screen was red. Bottom half was green. Any screen mode other than adaptive just made it worse.
Dud u get new one without this crap ? Or u just wanna cash back ??
I've exchanged 4 with my cell provider before getting a perfect one
Was just about to post a similar topic, think I'm going to be taking this one back today, my first one had a red hue down the sides and this one appears to have a pink lower half that I am trying to live with but cannot...
My first one was perfect but it had broken speaker. Then had to try another two to finally get acceptable one. Not perfect, it goes pink-ish on specific angle, but it's not that bad. I really suggest to buy those phones in store so you can check it and save yourself some time.

It's a hardware problem, so it can't be fixed by software. All the update did was allow you to mess with the RGB sliders and it's only available in the "Adaptive Display" mode. This option doesn't help if your display has multiple different hues such as a top reddish hue and a bottom greenish hue. It also is in "Adaptive Display" mode which is the least colour accurate mode.
This is a well-documented issue, like anything AMOLED, there can be a lot of variation from panel to panel. You should be able to go to the retailer and swap it out.

In my opinion, this is ridiculus - cuz this phone costs really a lot of money and samsung dont give a **** about customers and samsungs problem with screen. Samsung is mocking to telling us that "update" will solve "your" Problem.
Im from Poland and here samsung store says "its a advantage of this PRODUCT"...... crapy telling
My device has a pretty messed up display, to the point where the software controls that Samsung has added are just enough to solve the problem. I have the cool / warm slider all the way to the right (warm), because this cancels out the green tint a bit. From advanced settings I have the green slider at about 20%, the red slider at about 80%, and the blue slider at 100%.
And because this wasn't enough, the display has a warm glow at the edges. Thankfully, Samsung has a software solution for this, and it works by adding a cool tint at the edges to counter-act the warm tint. But this solution isn't perfect, as the warm tint disappears when the display is looked at in an angle, and the blue software-added tint becomes visible.
I haven't returned my device because the problem is fully solvable through software, although I am a bit disappointed that a phone that cost over $900 has problems that the user has to put effort in to solve.
Had to go through 4 phones from my carrier before getting a perfect screen even tilting the phone I have no red and in any display mode no red or pink at all... there should not be a bandaid fix for a 900$ phone... having to adjust settings is gonna hurt resale value also

It's not "fully" solvable through software. The appearance of the display changes when tilted, just as you said. I'm really hopeful that the replacement I receive via UPS tomorrow has a quality display. Even after playing with the advanced display settings on and off for days, I cannot get rid of the heavy pink tint at the bottom of my current (3rd) phone's display. It's a real shame.
Well, my fourth device arrived today and it's basically as bad as all of the others. This time it has an even pink tint along every edge of the display. This is getting old. I really hope that this issue doesn't carry over to the Note 8.
I went through 4 Nexus 6Ps to find one that had an even screen tone. This is a problem faced by all AMOLED screen. My S8+ isnt the best but it's not that bad either.

I've had the Galaxy SIII, two S4's, S5, Note 4, two Note Edges, two Note 5's, S7, two S7 Edge's, three Note 7's, three Gear Fit2's, two Gear S3's and four S8+'s. All AMOLED displays.
The ONLY one with which I've had problems is the S8+. This is NOT a problem with ALL AMOLED displays. This is clearly a manufacturing defect with the S8, as can be evidenced by Samsung's OTA that adds "corrective" features to the advanced display settings. Please don't try to make excuses for them.

I agree it's bad and shouldn't be happening and my S8 screen isn't entirely uniform but as I said, the 6Ps I had and Nexus 6 was terrible for it too.

Mine had a slight pinkish tint to the bottom of it, but i dialed *#15987# on the phone and then pressed 3 to set it to -9 overall... this appears to do the trick for me.
