some phones have a defective screen that gives a yellowish tint - X Style (Pure) General

i saw a post whether it was here or a different website. someone posted about a yellowish tint. i never noticed it until my roommate got a phone after i did. after looking at his phone, his looked alittle whiter than mine and knew based on the post i may have gotten a yellowish defective screen.
i went on order support chat and explained to them that i ordered this phone at the end of october and that it appears defective. at first they were willing to replace it for me either by sending it to them and they send me another or pay a fee for an advanced exchange and they send me one first.
i explained i purchased this 2 weeks ago and it should still be covered. after which they gave me a code to get a new one without charge. so i ordered the phone and clearly saw a difference that i felt compelled to send to everyone here my results. please refer to the attachments to see the difference.
this could be the reason why battery life was 2 hours of screentime, but i havent had time to test the new ones battery till now

+1 my phone is having the yellow tint and i don't think here in India it is easy to get the phone replaced! i raised a compliant with FlipKart(the online retailer) and they have given me a 2 weeks ETA.
so what i did also install this screen balance app and improved my white balance and it feels better or I have kind of got used to the yellow tint.
when i put my iPhone 6 next to the my Moto X, i can see that Moto X has a yellow screen! wish it was better...

Good luck getting this replaced if you unlocked your bootloader, despite this is clearly unrelated to the bootloader unlocking!!

Honestly, I like to having yellow tint at someday. It giving my eyes easier to using device.
But having a defective device is like cancer affect lifespan. I'd replace defective devices.

There's so many phones out there with that yellow tint. I had to replace Four!!! MXPE s to get a normal white screen..

So yes, what I expect from my hypothesis was correct and my battery is much better

Thanks for this post. I ordered mine from Amazon on wed, got it on thurs and immediately noticed the yellow'ish whites on it. I couldn't get past it so contacted amazon and got an overnighted replacement. To my luck the new one did not have the yellowish screen issue, white is now white. But I've read a bunch of posts on this and they seem to be correct. It's not a defective panel so much as it is a wrong color calibration. I tested this by downloading a screen adjuster app (Screen Adjuster FREE) and adding more blue to the screen calibration and to my surprise the colors looked white again. However, I shouldn't have to use an app to accomplish that. It should be done correctly from the start.

For those who are rooted and running a cm based rom, this may help.

Does your 8X body creak/snap? See light where screen meets body/screen not flush?

Im wondering if other people's 8X's creak when squeezing the phone sideways or on the screen after a few minutes of use? Also I can see light leaking from the bottom where the screen meets the body of the phone. Want to know if I should get an exchange tomorrow at Microsoft Store since after that I'm pretty far from any Microsoft Stores until I'm past the return date.
My volume rocker squeaks a little and also moves back and fourth when I shake the phone. At the bottom of the phone on either side of the charging port there are light leaks, and on the left and right bottom sides too, which is annoying in the dark. Tempted to take mine back to Phones4u and ask for a new one..
Got a new phone and its much better. I didn't notice if light leaks through bottom anymore, but the screen is definitely more flush though not PERFECTLY flush.
Much more solid phone and power button also has a click and is easier to press now. No more creaks now.
Sent from my 8X using Board Express
I'll go and exchange mine then I think. Can you take a picture of it in the dark to show if you have any light leaks and post it up? I'd be very appreciative.
My power button feels a bit odd too, it doesn't have a click and feels squidgy, was thinking that earlier. Might have a go on the replacement in store and look at it in the dark to check for light leaks.
Edit: I've attached the best picture I could get of my light leaks/screen fitting. This is with brightness at max, taken with my DSLR. Was yours this bad? I'd be interested to see if this is an issue with other 8X's or just ours.
I haven't had any problems like that with mine yet. I started using a case after the first week though. Hopefully a replacement will fix the issue for you. That's a lot of light coming through.

It is, it's awful. I'm kind of regretting getting the 8X over the 920 to be honest, the blacks seem very light on the screen and the colour seem very washed out (maybe it's just coming from an AMOLED screen that is doing it), might see what they can do for me in store today. We'll see.
Took it back today, they didn't want to replace it but they did in the end. Tried out two brand new Yellow ones in store, both had the exact same issue. Tried a black one, and it's perfect, no light leakage at all. Maybe it's an issue with the Yellow one. Poor effort HTC.
Accepted the Black one as a replacement, but I'm trying to sell it and get a 920 like I should have in the beginning. Doh!

Meh. I have the black one and its an issue all right. Yesterday, my screen totally died. Went to HTC service center today, and the light leakage and inperfect screen flush were listed as "possible user damage". If they decide to classify it as user damage, i'll be pissed.

I went with the 920, had screen flickering issues and random rebooting on it, and all 3 of my replacements. Gave up and got a Note II. lol.
Yes, when I had mine it creaked and the camera lens moved around a little, and the screen was a tad squishy on the bottom right...HTC consistently has awesome designs but
There is always something wrong with their build quality that is maddening.

Crack over Speaker holes
Hi guys, just to add to the build quality problems... I've just had a replacement from Phones4U of my yellow 8X. After just under a month of gentle and careful ownership i noticed a crack appeared over (and through) the holes on the back for the speaker. The crack got bigger over about a week before i had chance to go ask about it in store. to be fair to P4U, the person i spoke to was great and they swapped it out in store, even though i'd originally bought it online.
Came back to this thread to mention it and now having read everything else i'm noticing a bit of creaking when i squeeze the sides and both phones had had the squishy screen edge picture thing which i first read about being a problem on the ONE X. Not sure if that's just normal anyway though really. Oh and neither of my power buttons have clicked and i find myself missing my easy to press home button on my old iPhone 3GS!
Same again!

Well after a month (again) my replacement 8X has developed the crack in the same place.
Phones 4U are gonna swap it for a black model this time, i'm wondering if it's the yellow plastic specifically that's bad. They were less cheery and helpful with the exchange this time stating that because it's a cosmetic fault they don't usually replace them and the first time was 'a goodwill gesture'.
I'm starting to wish i'd just gone for the extra price bump for the Lumia 920 instead now. Guess i'm lucky they've replaced them at all though but i still don't think a phone should crack of it's own free will after 4 weeks! http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/icons/advanced/drive.png
They also said it's not a widespread fault that they've been made aware of, i was actually hoping someone else on here would have had the same experience to help me confirm it wasn't just bad luck or whatever. I guess everyone else just has the corners rubbing off instead!
I guess I got lucky, my blue 8X seems pretty solid and all the buttons are clicky.

Pink tint on screen?

Does anyone have a pink tint to part of the screen? I know the Galaxy s6 had a bad problem with this. I'm hoping it's been solved in this generation.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/getting-replacement-s6-due-to-screen-t3074865
No pink tint on my S7, but the screen is not uniform. Bottom right corner is what it's supposed to be, with white background, but the upperpart has a yellowish tint to it.
Going crazy with these AMOLED screens, because last time I tried to buy a S3, I had to cancel my purchase after 3 units. They all had the same problem and I really tought, that Samsung could produce good screens after so many years, and because this isn't that much different with S6's screen
My Verizon S7 just starting displaying this problem. Bringing it back to Best Buy ASAP today.

I already had this problem with 3 different S6 so I'm really disappointed the issue is still present with the S7. Got a RMA but it may takes 3 weeks for a replacement thanks to the ****ty consumer service in my country .
Here is a shot of the problem (the 2 shots are the same I have just augmented contrast on the second one to clearly see the problem).

I'm quoting myself from another thread. Still an issue... I'm waiting for a replacement model right now and I hope the screen will be good.
Yep, I've got this issue. Pink tint at the bottom of the screen. The only negative of an otherwise faultless phone. I kind of wish it had an IPS LCD, seems these AMOLED screens are very inconsistent with colour. At the moment it's not TOO bad but I'd prefer a uniform display. Didn't have this issue with the S6.

i have to exchange my amoled phones ALWAYS a few times (ordered my 5th S7 Edge today)!
i wrote a few threads regarding this, i also sent a message to displaymate (because they test "cherry-picked" devices, and do not mention this), see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/note4-amoled-screen-quality-t2906365
1st: display not good compared to second device
2nd: the device i use now. very good viewing angles and no tint, BUT: left side of display is darker then right side
3rd: display strong yellow tint
4th: display almost good, slight yellow tint. would take this, BUT: front cam takes blurry pictures compared to other devices...
5th: ordered today!
you may think i'm a hypocrite or have OCD, but it makes me mad that a 800EUR device has such flaws!!!

I absolutely agree with you guys. We are paying a significant amount of money and we expect it to be perfect.
Kudos for keep trying @TML1504. Hope you get a perfect one this time.
Are you buying this from a local store or a online seller? Because all local stores in my country will ask too much question if I approach them for replacement since it's a silly issue related to display, software, speaker, camera. Mostly likely it will end up in a pointless argument from their side and they consider the issue under warranty only. Speaking based on my earlier experiences.
Are the screen tint issues happening straight out of the box or do they develop over time?
Are you guys noticing it when the display it tilted or even in straight position?
I got a replacement unit yesterday, but had to wait almost 4 weeks for it. Didn't get a DOA replacement at the store, because the store manager didn't see the yellow tint. This new unit has slight pink tint on the top part of the screen. Gonna wait till thursday and decide if I'm gonna change this one. Probably not, because with my luck I have to change phones too many times, and the store manager doesn't want/or can't see the problem.
Maybe I'm gonna forget and get used to this screen, because it's little bit better than the first unit. Driving me crazy that Im so sensitive to this kind of things

galaxy s7 screen problem
same here i preordered a galaxy s7 and after 1 week of use i started noticing some color shiftiing when i'm in a dark room the auto brightnes turns the light down
and i start noticing ( especiallly in grey, grey dark and green dark cloros ) that the left side is brighter than the right side .
it's like a wave of light from the bottom left to the upper left of the screen this is really annoying when using a grey theme for example .
i compared to a galaxy note5 and s6 and they also have the same problem but in different parts of the screen.
i can't return it cuz the people in samsung want notice the problem. and they will tell me there's nathing wrong with it so i'll keep it until next year.
and by th way i had the same problem but it was pink on the right side whit my s6 last year and i changed the display twice under waranty, the third try i've got a farely good display.
maybe the next year i'll buy an iphone.

Lower half of screen has red tint - replace?

So I noticed today that the lower half of my display has a red tint, and now I can't stop noticing it. It's apparent in both night light and regular display modes. Do you think this is something they will send a replacement for?
It's very noticeable in apps using dark theme like XDA, reddit is fun, and imgur.

use that premium 24/7 support and report back how it was handled. we're all curious how it goes...
On first attempt, I used the chat function. They kept asking for a screenshot showing the red tint, but a screenshot doesn't work like that. Then after 45 min, I was told that this is taking too long and that I would get an email. I asked about a warranty replacement, and was told that is an option if this doesn't resolve.
I just want a warranty replacement...
I'll just call the Google Store during their business hours, obviously the 24/7 support and the Google Store are two different things.
Keep us posted.
I'll be calling the Google store first thing tomorrow, but in the mean time here is a picture of the issue. It's much more apparent in real life, but you can see the right side of the screen is darker than the left.
Just a quick update, they are sending me a replacement device. Hopefully the replacement doesn't have issues!
Good call. Yea that looks pretty bad, I would have returned it in a heartbeat.
Let us know how the replacement is. I have a XL and the top half has a pinkish hue. I'm debating if I should exchange it or not. I have noticed it on every device I've ever had with Amoled to a certain extent or another. It's for sure not as bad as other devices I've had. I'm debating getting it replaced. I'm just worried if I do the next one will have it worse, or a different issue that's worse. But for the amount of $ we paid for the phone it should be perfect IMO. I'll tolerate it on a $400 device.. not a close to $1000 device ($946 to be exact with tax)
Dunno. Ide exchange. I have had perfect amoleds on my note 5 and 7. Its possible to get a near perfect one.

I have the exact same thin on my Pixel 5 inch. Could it be the adhesive for the screen/digitizer needing time to cure? I read that in several places with some older phones and iphones. I might give mine some time and then send it back if it doesn't settle... Is anyone else having this issue? Or can anyone else confirm if their screens are perfectly uniform using a white screen?
Just went to a Verizon store and noticed the display models don't have this issue, I'm planning to get mine replaced...
Is there more than one factory making pixels? Or are they all made in the same place?
I know with the samsung line i had alot of issues with screens made in Vietnam, but all the phones made in China i had were perfect.

I received the replacement and it does not have the same problem, it has a uniform tint throughout the display. I doubt they will reject it, but hey, it wouldn't be a possibility if they didn't put that in the warranty exchange terms

I wouldn't worry about getting charged... there were a LOT of 6Ps that got exchanged for the same defect and I never heard of anyone getting charged. I went through 4 Nexus 6Ps before giving up on the lotto and getting a 5X. The issue seems way less prevalent this time around, but OF COURSE my Pixel has an uneven screen. Its not as bad as any of the 6Ps I had, but I've had my Pixel since Monday and I just can't live with it. I ordered my replacement yesterday. So far, everyone that has gotten a replacement between here and the XL forum they have been defect free! Fingers crossed.

I just returned my 6th S8+, the other forum member 12th. What the heck ?

Hi guys,
Story of my life. I preordered my S8+ on March 30th, received it on April 20th. Reading about pink tint I was happy not to see any. But what I got was green tint across the whole screen. On top of that the curved edges were really visible and had this glowing effect, as described in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/help/dark-edges-t3593730
I decided to return it and ordered another two units. The first one was completely pink, using the white balance sliders and the color calibration code (*#15987#) helped a little, but it was still pink. The other one had dead pixels near one of the curved edges and was greenish in one part of the screen. I returned all of them.
I'm stubborn (and like the phone design a lot) so I bought another three (this time I took some photos which I attached below). The first one had extremely greenish tint and as any other greenish screen the curved edges were really visible and had this glowing effect.
The second one was entirely pink including the pinkish edges and the third one was pink only at the top. Playing with white balance and color calibration did not help, only lowered the effect a little bit.
To make it worse one unit had splinter on the frame straight out of the box.
There is a guy on polish forum of S8+ who got twelve units of S8+ and only one was perfect: http://forum.android.com.pl/topic/314518-ekran-w-galaxy-s8-plus/?page=19#comment-5078692
Is it only in my beloved country so hard to get the perfect screen (by perfect I mean not pink nor green, without dead pixels) or were we so unlucky ? It seems almost impossible to get the good unit. I'm really tired of not being able to enjoy mine new device. I'm thinking about buying another 5 units from different sources. I will give it a last chance ...
PS. To make it clear - I'm buying new phones almost every year since 10 years and never had such issues. I had to replace one of my phones just once in my entire life! So I'm not that kind of person seeing issues everywhere, I'm just not agreeing to pay full price for a device with such flaws.

I feel you. I don't know what to say to help, but if it is any consolation I know exactly how you are feeling. A few years back I had a similar problem with the BlackBerry Passport. I ended up exchanging about 12 devices before I found one that didn't have flaws out of the box. I got roasted on the CrackBerry forums for it, but proof was all there. I simply got 12 broken devices out of the box... Seems unreal almost, but it happens.
I couldn't care less if there was a green or a blue or a pink or a yellow tint. It still does the same job.
Your best bet is to just wait until the first few batches are pushed out and just wait until samsung makes more phones..let everyone else buy up all the pink ones. This could take months though, maybe about 3. Either way, buying an AMOLED is similar to buying an LCD; you will get lucky if you don't get dead pixels or screen tint issues.

Don't see what the problem is regarding screen tint issue, Samsung is aware of it and said they can address it through a software update. I would've just waited for that and changed my screen color ratio in the mean time. Also the pictures you showed with the dead pixels, either I'm blind or it wouldn't honestly make a difference or you wouldn't even notice it in daily usage. Just my two cents

People should indeed get quality products for their money, but this seems to be a new obsession when it comes to new phones. People sitting there all day looking at a white screen trying to find an imperfection. If you use the phone day to day, there is no way you would even notice it.

People should indeed get quality products for their money, but this seems to be a new obsession when it comes to new phones. People sitting there all day looking at a white screen trying to find an imperfection. If you use the phone day to day, there is no way you would even notice it.

When you pay $1,300 for something, like I did for my S8+, you want it to be flawless, at least physically. We all work hard for our money, one way or the other. I won't stand for throwing it away on a semi-defective device, no matter how small the defect.

I got a perfect device with the S8+, thankfully, on first go. Software wise, different story, but HW is flawless. It's hit and miss.
If they are going to start setting a precedent where they are asking for laptop money for a phone, then we need to respond by expecting that it at least comes as advertised. When we start dropping our standards while they keep raising the price, then we are all in for ever-increasing amounts of agro as they will just assume x% of people will just take it up the wrong-un and keep coming back for more. For this money, if there are any hardware defects out of the box, back it goes. But those are just my standards.
In response to the OP, sounds like you are ordering replacments from the same borked batch. I'd either find a new source or wait for the scruffy units to go elesewhere.

There is nothing subjective about having a color balanced display, no visible marks, flaws, or any other defects anywhere on the body, and no dead or stuck pixels. All ports and speakers work, mics all work, etc. No, physically perfect is not subjective. It's very much objective, based on factual observations about the conditions of the device. Besides, as the poster above has said as well, if they're going to be asking laptop money for a phone it better be flawless.

Your argument is still predicated on your interpretation of perfection, so that it is subjective! Feel free to dispute that further, lol.

This is a pretty comical comment. Your argument amounts to everything being subjective. Why is a square a square? Why is it not a triangle? Because a square has 4 equal sides and 90 degree angles connecting all sides to each other. That's not subjective; it is mathematically objective. The same way, a perfect display is one that is without defects. A perfect phone body is one without scuffs. You either have dead pixels or you don't. You either have scuffs or you don't. Your display is centered in the frame of the phone, or it isn't. Your display is using a proper white-point, or it is not. These are not subjective things. The state is binary.

Hi guys,
Story of my life.
So I'm not that kind of person seeing issues everywhere, I'm just not agreeing to pay full price for a device with such flaws.

i have these issues since years, but this time it's extreme...
I've seen a lot (nearly 20) S8+ now, only 3 of them had an almost perfect screen!
the deviations are really huge, and that's the biggest problem in my eyes...

Can we get a moderrator to change the title of this thread to; LCD is better than AMOLED (because this is what this thread is really about(I prefer amoled btw))

Quality Control issues with the screen - Be warned

I ordered the G7 from T-Mobile pretty much as soon as I could. I received it 2 days later. From the second I turned on the screen, I could clearly see a huge spot of LCD bleed to the right of the charging port. It was only really visible on white/off-white backgrounds, but it was plain as day and unacceptable for a $750 device.
I called T-Mobile within a day to try and swap it out. Long story short, it would involve sending it back, waiting for them to confirm, then sending me a replacement. I didn't want to deal with any of that, so I just returned it. Fun fact: The original tech on the phone wanted me to run a diagnostic and reboot the phone to troubleshoot (LOL!).
Anyway, I went to a local T-Mobile store and found another display model with the EXACT SAME LIGHT BLEED ISSUE and in the same spot. I pointed it out to the rep and he was surprised. So, what I originally thought was bad luck may, in fact, be a more widespread issue. That, or I just happened to find the only two LG G7 devices with this particular issue.
We all know that LCD panels have light bleed issues of varying amounts (the one notable exception being iPhones). But this was still disappointing, especially on new screen tech from LG. I just want people to be informed before buying. I loved the phone otherwise, although the taller, thinner form factor was a little odd. I prefer the V30's form factor.
Attached are photos of my unit. You can clearly see the blinding white spot shining up like a spotlight from the bottom. If you're buying this phone, good luck. I did see a Pink unit at T-Mobile without this issue. Both units that had it were Silver, for what it's worth.
yea, my wife had this issue in the same spot on her red edition. i easily found others online with the same issue in the same spot.
LG has quality control issues. the screen on the v30 was so bad that i ended up returning it.
my g7 has no such issues and i have been pleasantly surprised with my experience on it thus far.
if you can get a good, unaffected model you will probably be happy with it.
Unfortunate that many people are experiencing this. My 2 phones that arrived seem flawless to me so far.
What do you guys think?
There's already a post on this

You definitely have it in the same spot, though to a lesser degree than I had. It's your call, but I think that's unacceptable given the price. Since it only really rears its ugly head on white backgrounds, some people may find they can live with it.
please remove
Lol. Man I didn't even notice that issue. But I can see the same bleeding in the exact same area. I'm on JOD so I might just keep it since I'll jump to the note 9 in 3 or 4 months.

I ordered two via the BOGO sale, both Rose color and the screens are flawless
Major backlight bleed through the LCD screen right out of the box. Apparently its a common issue. Went back to Sprint to swap it only to find that the would have been replacement had the same issue. Opened up two more new G7s with the manager only to find the same problem. LG fell through on this one. Id suggest looking elsewhere as of now. Unless you dont mind the visual nuisance
I picked up a Verizon G7 from Best Buy 2 days ago and I have no screen issues. My is performing just fine with no light bleed.
Got mine in store from Tmo. Have had no issues with mine so far. Try not to read too much into this. Samsung has had screen issues with about every model they've released since the S6.
Verizon edition here and it's perfect. We've sold probably 50 out of my Verizon store also and not a single issue
How do we test our screen for bleed?
I used this test page http://www.lightbleedtest.com/ at 100% brightness in a pitch black bathroom. Is this the proper way?
Flawless here also, T Mobile version.

In the case of the G7, a white background seems to bring the bleed out the most. Open a white image or the settings menu and check the bottom edge. It appears to occur in the same place on all G7 units that have it.
US 710ULM and no issues with the display, color or bleed. Purchased Black from Bestbuy.
its one of the nicest LCD displays ive seen. Brightness and colors are fantastic.
