My day one Nexus has a non functioning GPS, since it was still under warranty I started the process of returns in December. Since then Google has shipped me 2 phones with vibration motors that sound like a wreck. I'm waiting on the third replacement now. Am I swimming upstream with this one or has Google started shipping fixes yet?
There are no fixes. Its either faulty or not

I get that, I'm wondering if anyone is starting to see units that do not have that problem shipping?
Mine from 12/2013 has loud a vibration motor. Sounds like a dental drill!! Waiting a couple months before I try to RMA. Sounds like they're still rolling out crap ones.

Mine is a brand new RMA from T-Mobile fresh in the Google box. Motor sounds like absolute crap and just feels loose or something. I can't stand it. I am going to wait a few months before I do it again. Hopefully better models will be out by then.
What vibration motor defect?

Some owners report an extra loud vibration from the motor as if it were loose or something

Aha that. Tbh my N5 vib. motor acts the same as my nexus 4 used to, and both are a lil bit off when compared to a GS3 for example, so i'm guessing it's either buggy drivers or cheaper hardware that LG is putting in the nexus line. Either way, i'm afraid guys who are RMAing will not get what they are looking for

I think you're right.
I've never experienced the N4's vibrate but I prefer the n5 (that I have anyway) to my s3. Its more like the elasticity twang of an xperia. But then mines quiet so I dont have the issue the op has.

does it happen to your phone that sometimes (randomly) as if it loses vib. strength, and you can't feel it while typing, then after a while everything comes back to normal.. ?
This is a thing i used to notice on the N4 and i'm still noticing it on the N5, there are actually threads about it in the Q&A section..

1. N5 16gb: quiet -> went back for 32gb
2. N5 32gb: louder, but still ok
3. N5 32gb: ****ing loud
4. N5 32gb: ****ing loud
All 312K. At the moment it makes no sense to RMA...

I definitely want to get a Nexus 5 (battery and camera issues aside), but all the reported defects with either the speakers, scratches on the screen, loose buttons, etc are giving me pause. I'm thinking about waiting a month or so until the inventory at the stores gets another batch from LG.
Is anyone else waiting to get the phone until new inventory is replaces with new batches/revisions of the inventory?
How long do you think I should wait before the next batches come out? How long are you waiting?
Just get it. I've had zero issues with the phone.

No defects, no light bleed, tight power button, tight volume button.
Perfect.

no mine is fine. 32gb white everything is tight and beautiful display none of the "bleeding" or whatever shananagins that is allegedly going on.
Echo most of the statements here about good quality device. Still can't believe the value for the price. I've used mostly Sony devices for the past seven years. They launch at one and a half the cost and update the software at least six months after it's released.

Mine works perfectly. But sadly I'm returning it. At&t (straight talk) had better signal yet there is no LTE. I'll be sticking with Verizon. Signal is not as strong but I get LTE in 90% of places.

This phone is flawless. I think most of the "problems" are just people exaggerating or people whose desires are insatiable
That defect thread is poison...
Don't worry about it. That's just a handful of people with issues, it doesn't mean every N5 is defective. If you want one now, get one now. If it has some horrible issue, exchange it for another one. Simple as that.
I don't want to ruin your party but I have 7 dead pixels on my screen and believe me I'm not exaggerating I guess it just comes down to each person experience with their units, I would recommend based on mine to wait.

There were 4 or so revisions of the Nexus 4. It's never wrong to let manufacturers work out the kinks on the first sacrificial lambs.
I'm not really worried about the "defects", I'm waiting more for the dev scene to get cookin... I know I'm gonna wanna flash something as soon as I get the phone. I'm also on Sprint and things seem to be pretty hit or miss with them right now, so I'm giving them time to get it sorted (hopefully).
Just don't wait too long, or you might find yourself trying to decide between the n5 and galaxy s5...

Same here, but how much should we wait is the question? A month or two or even more?
This could be tracked with the serial numbers of the devices I guess, considering posting a thread about this in a couple of days.
Hopefully they update the inventory in Germany soon.

Even on HSPA+ I get 16 down with the nexus 5, which is more than enough for anything I personally do on a phone. Including streaming movies.

So because you didn't have any issues that means the thousands of other phones out there never had any? Yes that's intelligent logic.

Many in these forums go out of their way to look for issues (rattling buttons - give me a break - they float in the casing over the actual electrical contacts).
Lots of products get revved throughout their life cycle. It doesn't mean all previous revs were defective.
You can wait if you want to. Hell, I'll probably wait for the nexus 6 as I just don't see this one as that much of an upgrade, and a newer, better one is less than a year away.
I got my N5 day after release day and it is flawless, not a single problem.

Is dumb as the statement may sound, those who feel like waiting should, those who don't, shouldn't.
I'll explain why.
Those who can quickly get pissed of that their phone doesn't have "nipples" (N4 reversion), or the smallest most insignificant change, should wait.
For most people, that never an issue, and they should buy soon, but for me, I was childishly willing to pay $30, to trade with a newer reversion... Luckily I didn't get the opportunity to

Is it worth RMA'ing?

You're going to get light bleed of some kind on any backlit LCD. Is it bad? Do you use your phone in a dark closet with the screen set to display a black screen? Up to you

I agree. I just don't want to go through the trouble of RMA'ing for a worse (or equal) device lol
There is no reason to think that you would get an equal or worse product if you RMA it. If you do RMA the RMA.
With all those defect threads around,i'm a little bit scared to be honest ....My friend will be ordering it for me because the play store doesn't take Paypal. If there's a defect, how does it work ? Do they charge you the second device until you send back the first one ?
Yes they charge you for the replacement then after 5-10 days or so u well get the money back. Even before they get the original device back u will get your money back.
BTW this should be in the questions and answers area

First one I ordered was a 16gb, it had a dead pixel and light bleed on top left corner. The 2nd one, a 32gb, had perfect screen, but has the weak noisy vibration motor issue. Gonna call later to do an RMA for another exchange. If the 3rd one also has problems, then I'm done. They cut too many corners to keep this phone inexpensive, it really is like a lottery trying to get a perfect one. And that's too bad because I really like this phone.
Side note: My Note 3 was perfect out of the box. Also got a Moto X and is perfect as well. It's pretty sad I've gone through 2 Nexus 5's already. :/
So there have been revisions made to the nexus 5 some issues have been fixed but what do us guys with the older version do now ? RMA?

My launch device is flawless. No loose buttons, no dead pixels, no light bleed whatsoever. Gonna hang on to it. All they did was drill bigger holes for the speaker and make the buttons a little tighter. Is that really worth an RMA if you don't have any actual issues?
We whine profusely about being early adopters and post useless thread titles.
I have a Galaxy S3, but Im considering moving on to a Nexus 5. I heard there were issues with the headphone mic and some other hardware issues. Having a working headphone mic is pretty important to me...can anyone tell me if that issue has been fixed? Any other input from someone else's experience who has perhaps came from an S3 would be great...positive or negative.

There are certain manufacturing tolerances with any mass-produced product which results in small variations between different units of the same device. Overall, my experience with this phone has been that most of the "issues" it supposedly has have been really overblown in these forums. I came from a GS4, and the N5 blows it away in terms of build quality and feel.
Mine is a launch day N5 and it is flawless. It's just the luck of the draw, as it is with every piece of tech these days.
