I have a Galaxy S3, but Im considering moving on to a Nexus 5. I heard there were issues with the headphone mic and some other hardware issues. Having a working headphone mic is pretty important to me...can anyone tell me if that issue has been fixed? Any other input from someone else's experience who has perhaps came from an S3 would be great...positive or negative.

There are no different hardware versions of this phone:

So basically some people got some lemons as it happens with pretty much any product. But over all the build quality is as good as it looks? Hope so because I really like the looks of this phone and I really over and done with sammy phones.

There are certain manufacturing tolerances with any mass-produced product which results in small variations between different units of the same device. Overall, my experience with this phone has been that most of the "issues" it supposedly has have been really overblown in these forums. I came from a GS4, and the N5 blows it away in terms of build quality and feel.
Mine is a launch day N5 and it is flawless. It's just the luck of the draw, as it is with every piece of tech these days.
No issues.

Though It sounds like a big hit here in this nerd forum,
no one else know what a Nexus 4 is.
This is why no companies care about it.
I'm sure one of the main reasons is probably that not many people have it yet. For whatever reason the stock of the phone in the play store has been so low.
Uh, the Galaxy S III is on every major carrier in the US and there is an international version. It was going to sell tens of millions no matter what. That's why there are cases for it. The Nexus 4 will never have anything even remotely close to the GSIII with regards to accessories, even if it sells ten million, which it won't. If the Nexus 4 does extremely well, then maybe the nexus 5 will have a bunch . . . .

Already stated but gsiii sold like 5M phones in 2 mos, n4 will probably sell 100K in 2mos, for the case makers it's a no brainer.

Nexus 4 already did extremely well, if Google/LG have enough inventory to meet the demand.
So the problem is not Nexus 4, but Google.

We don't know how many units they actually sold though. I am sure if it was anywhere near a million or so units though they would have announced something by now.

According to some of the vendors, Google did not release any information to them in regards to specs etc.... This is why we didn't see any leaks from case companies like we normally do. This is also why we're waiting now because they had to start from scratch when it launched.

I see an SIII commercial at least once a day. Google has yet to advertise the N4 other than YouTube videos. That's why.

Google engineers played a huge part in designing the N4.

I heard from someone that Google didn't give any pre-release phones out to case manufacturers before launch. That would definitely explain the lack of case options. Also, the lack of stock on the phone is probably not helping case manufacturers get their hands on a device.

I dont think this is a matter of blaming someone, its just google being to secretive with their Nexus line, and manufacturers have no idea how to roll out with nexus. I am sure we will hear something sooner or later....I really want the Case mate pop case!

Get the HTC One. It actually feels like a premium phone, has a great display and by far the best speakers on a phone. The S4 is more of the same with a bunch of gimmicky features you'll never use.
Did U hear by your self that speaker on HTC one is the best or U just think?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I haven't heard it yet but there is pretty much a unanimous agreement by professional tech sites that it has the best speakers on a mobile device right now. I seriously doubt the S4's tiny little speaker will beat that.

I definitely want to get a Nexus 5 (battery and camera issues aside), but all the reported defects with either the speakers, scratches on the screen, loose buttons, etc are giving me pause. I'm thinking about waiting a month or so until the inventory at the stores gets another batch from LG.
Is anyone else waiting to get the phone until new inventory is replaces with new batches/revisions of the inventory?
How long do you think I should wait before the next batches come out? How long are you waiting?
Just get it. I've had zero issues with the phone.

no mine is fine. 32gb white everything is tight and beautiful display none of the "bleeding" or whatever shananagins that is allegedly going on.
Echo most of the statements here about good quality device. Still can't believe the value for the price. I've used mostly Sony devices for the past seven years. They launch at one and a half the cost and update the software at least six months after it's released.

This phone is flawless. I think most of the "problems" are just people exaggerating or people whose desires are insatiable
That defect thread is poison...
Don't worry about it. That's just a handful of people with issues, it doesn't mean every N5 is defective. If you want one now, get one now. If it has some horrible issue, exchange it for another one. Simple as that.
I don't want to ruin your party but I have 7 dead pixels on my screen and believe me I'm not exaggerating I guess it just comes down to each person experience with their units, I would recommend based on mine to wait.

There were 4 or so revisions of the Nexus 4. It's never wrong to let manufacturers work out the kinks on the first sacrificial lambs.
I'm not really worried about the "defects", I'm waiting more for the dev scene to get cookin... I know I'm gonna wanna flash something as soon as I get the phone. I'm also on Sprint and things seem to be pretty hit or miss with them right now, so I'm giving them time to get it sorted (hopefully).
Just don't wait too long, or you might find yourself trying to decide between the n5 and galaxy s5...

Same here, but how much should we wait is the question? A month or two or even more?
This could be tracked with the serial numbers of the devices I guess, considering posting a thread about this in a couple of days.
Hopefully they update the inventory in Germany soon.

Many in these forums go out of their way to look for issues (rattling buttons - give me a break - they float in the casing over the actual electrical contacts).
Lots of products get revved throughout their life cycle. It doesn't mean all previous revs were defective.
You can wait if you want to. Hell, I'll probably wait for the nexus 6 as I just don't see this one as that much of an upgrade, and a newer, better one is less than a year away.
I got my N5 day after release day and it is flawless, not a single problem.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Is dumb as the statement may sound, those who feel like waiting should, those who don't, shouldn't.
I'll explain why.
Those who can quickly get pissed of that their phone doesn't have "nipples" (N4 reversion), or the smallest most insignificant change, should wait.
For most people, that never an issue, and they should buy soon, but for me, I was childishly willing to pay $30, to trade with a newer reversion... Luckily I didn't get the opportunity to

My launch device is flawless. No loose buttons, no dead pixels, no light bleed whatsoever. Gonna hang on to it. All they did was drill bigger holes for the speaker and make the buttons a little tighter. Is that really worth an RMA if you don't have any actual issues?
We whine profusely about being early adopters and post useless thread titles.
My day one Nexus has a non functioning GPS, since it was still under warranty I started the process of returns in December. Aha that. Tbh my N5 vib. motor acts the same as my nexus 4 used to, and both are a lil bit off when compared to a GS3 for example, so i'm guessing it's either buggy drivers or cheaper hardware that LG is putting in the nexus line. Either way, i'm afraid guys who are RMAing will not get what they are looking for
