Dual PIN lock screen - is it possible? - General Questions and Answers

Hi all,
I'm wondering if there is an App that will give me the option of locking my device with 2 different PINs. 1st PIN is the real-deal and will activate my device, tbe second PIN is a self-destruct PIN. So if someone tries to mug me or force my PIN from me I can give them the 'special' PIN, which will nuke my device & keep my identity safe?
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

What's the point? Wouldn't erasing the device just make the person who's mugging you more irritated and likely to hit you in the face? Besides, as long as your phone actually is locked he won't get anywhere, but if you wipe it he gets a 'fresh out of the box' phone instantly.

better empty than an SD card full of my work and client proposals..

i'm surprised muggers and thieves have yet to learn about recovery mode theres that boeing phone that is supposed to nuke itself when into the wrong hands? http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/02/27/us-boeing-phone-idUSBREA1Q04K20140227

It's amazing how many of us tech folks like asking extra questions rather than saying, 'hmm dunno' or 'yep try this'. I guess thats why business people and those in marketing hate having meeting with I.T guys.

Oh by the way, I've just settled for SD card & device encryption & cloud backups for redundancy (I have 2 TB of cloud storage, might as well use it)

I was going to suggest device encryption as well. Faster device wiping is a benefit too.

I think no way..

I wonder there are someone makes an app that able me to make 100x100 dots pattern lockcsreen

PARENTAL lockout

I can not find the app I want. Is there a way to lock out everything except contacts and phone calls? Or a way one of the ROMS can be made to do this. I only use cell phones, no landline. I do not want kids playing/texting when not allowed.

I don't think that's possible. I could be wrong though.
There is. Just get them a dumb phone. But there is nothing that will work 100% as a simple reset will remove anything you do. No apps have been made to make a smartphone not use anything. Well I guess you could get an app locker and then set up a password for each and every single app on the phone and that would make it so a password had to be entered every time the app was used. Other then that yeah get them a normal phone and call it good. To be honest that's what I did. Kids have no need for a smartphone and are not mature enough to only use it when they are supposed to. The temptation is to great to show it off to freinds and what not.
That's what I thought. I was just trying to utilize what I have.

Well you could kill the data by messing up the apns or get an app that will kill the apns at the right times. But nothing that will stop the apps from loading. I know how you feel though. Gave my boys my old tilt2 and fuse and after a few calls from school decided it had to go lol

some questions on Roms and apps.

do most people restore system info and all apps of try start fresh and keep only best apps. also do most apps recharge you every month. the lady at att said charge me ninety a month but i can't believe ever bought that many and it shows my sister going over data but claim its Her number gets extra charges. seem right?

No usually not a good idea to restorr system data. Also no unless you sign up for a monthly subscription. You are only charged one time for an app
i knew that. what about contacts or passwords. dont restore anything no system data? . i knew lady told it wrong. no way apps

Never restore system data.
And as stated, you only get charged one time for apps.

You should be using Google for your contacts or making backups in the contacts app.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777
You also have the option of exporting your contacts to the sd card.
what about installing other phones or sms programs. do keep originals or best one and replace others

What do u mean by installing other phones? And when you download apps u can keep the origionals.

This app messed up my phone

So i tried this app called easy battery saver as an alternative to juice defender, and as soon as i enabled it, the app nuked my data connection. I've tried disabling it and uninstalling it but nothing works.

My Droid Charge/Verizon also had data connection nuked by "easy battery saver" app. There are quite a few postings on various forums of other unfortunates, mostly Droid Charge, but a few LG.
My phone isn't rooted and I don't know how to flash the modem.
Is there anything simpler that can be done? I would prefer not to have to factory reset as the backup apps don't save app settings etc. on non-rooted phones.
Help anyone?

A factory reset brought my data back, so i took the opportunity to install tweakstock. I guess it was a plus in the end.
I think we should all report the app for causing such damage to the phone with no warning whatsoever and no solution. It must suck to have to reset a stock phone.

Expecting that I need to do a factory I bought MyBackup Pro and did a full backup but it seems that without root access the app settings are not saved. Since I didn't relish having to do rooting or factory reset I thought I would give the app developers a chance to do the right thing.
The response has been a series of generic emails pointing me at a new version of the app that do not fix my problem. I am guessing that it simply copies the (dysfunctional) APN it finds on first launch then its reset function simply writes this still dysfunctional setting back. Can't they just provide a simple appto write the correct Verizon APN?
I am not generally a ranting type but it is frustrating that there is no further recourse than just to advertise the serious bug and poor response to this forum. I posted a query also on Charge Forums, is there another good place to post a warning? Or am I just wasting my time?
Oh, and naturally my iPhone friends say "I told you so" just to rub salt in the wound!

I would have preferred it if they outright blacklisted the charge from downloading the app, as well as any phone it also breaks.

Pretty sure its broken my data too, it keeps jumping on and off all day. Will check with my operator that there aren't issues in my area but it was fine over the weekend.
Dug this up from a different forum. Works for sure.
1) Install app called "any cut" on wifi, it allows you to create any shortcut.
2) In the app go to new shortcut > activities> APNs
3) Create shortcut to access APNs (I guess default APN manager) and restore settings. Voila!

[Q] 4g sim card swap?

So I just bought my friend a stratosphere off of ebay. Does anyone know if i can just throw my Charge sim card into the stratosphere just to set it up (root, custom rom, etc.?)
The SIM card has nothing to do with root or customization. It's a card that enables LTE service, essentially.

That's not what he was asking.
OP, are you sure you need to have a SIM in the phone to do things on it? If so, you probably would be able to, but I don't know what implications that would have with your account.
I'm dealing with replacements right now and inserting my SIM into the new phone activates the new phone. I don't know if you could run into any issues (such as warranty stuff) by having his phone activated on your account, even for just a short time.
So I think you should be able to physically. I have no idea what consequences, if any, there would be.
If all you want to do is root/rom the phone, you can bypass the setup wizard without needing a sim card. From the main setup wizard screen just go into Emergency dial, then type in *#TESTMODE - that should enable the capacitive buttons so that you can hit the home button to get to the launcher - which should be all you need to do in order to proceed. Hope this helps!
Oh, my bad. I had to read the OP about 3 more times before I finally understood what he was asking.

Thanks everyone and sorry for any confusion. I ended rooting before getting the sim, then adding the rom n other stuff after. Its up and running like a champ! Thanks again!

[Q] Lost my phone

Last night, I lost my phone while I was out partying. Im not that upset about the loss, since I was going to upgrade it to a Nexus 4 anyway. The only thing that worries me, is that if someone finds the phone, they have acces to all my Google services, Facebook, etc.
Is there a way to prevent that? A way to log me out on all devices?
Anything that can prevent people from accesing my private information. I had my Gmail, my drive files, etc. on the phone.
Im afraid my lockscreen was on "slide to unlock" aswell. So there is not much protection there.
I really hope you can help me out here. It was a Galaxy Nexus running Cyanogenmod.

If it was linked to a microsoft exchange account, you can make it do a remote wipe.
next time use avast antivirus with anti-theft, great app, you can lock your smartphone via remote...

oh its not good at all. you should change your all passwords as soon as possible, and the next step is to inform your nearest police station about this lost.
