[Q] Help Connecting to EAP-TLS based network - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I'm having trouble being able to connect to the wifi network at the University of Virginia. I have done this for years on various android devices/versions dating back to Gingerbread, but I seem to have hit a wall with my Nexus 5 due to a missing password input field during the AP setup process.
I have downloaded and installed both the CA and my personal PKI certificate as per usual (and, yes, I installed them for WIFI use). I setup the access point just as I have done in the past. The big glaring difference is that there is no field to input my password. This is the password I associated with my computer account here on campus, not the password used to secure my personal certificate which was entered during the install process. With no way to input my password, I have no idea how I am supposed to authenticate on the entwork. Sure enough, attempting to connect results in "Authentication Error" being displayed below the SSID in the AP list after ~20 seconds of "connecting..." status.
I have no idea why there isn't a password field listed there anymore, I know there was on Android 4.3 on my Nexus 4.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!!

Push Email Password Prompt every 5 Minutes

I've setup a couple of Hermes handsets this past week, one on Cingular (US) and one on Vodafone (UK).
Our Exchange server is hosted in the UK.
I have a problem whereby the password you are forced to set when setting up the push/sync is prompting the user for entry almost every 5 minutes (ie. when the phone requires interaction from 'power save mode')
Entering the password 'settings' screen is no use as the option to change the 5 minute period is greyed out.
Is there a fix to this? Is this handset related or server related?
Surely I'm not alone with this problem?

This is server related. Technically you do not need a fix because everything is working as intended. What's happening is the exchange admin is enforcing a security certificate on your phone with the idea being that if you lose your phone, strangers cannot access your data. Further more they can trigger a remote wipe of your device after a set number of failed password attempts. This is pretty much standard in any corporation as they don't want outsiders getting access to their information. That being said there are ways to get around it. Just bear in mind that if you lose your phone, whoever picks it up will have full access to it and all information it contains. If you're willing to accept the potential implications then it's very simple. Google "zenyee.com stay unlock" and read through that thread on Mobility Today. There's a cab on the second page you need to install that will "un-grey" that box so you can set it to something more reasonable, like 24 hours.
Excellent, thanks for the info!
Is there anyway the server can be changed to avoid having to install this Zenyee.com Stay Unlock.zip on each unit?
Yes the exchange server administrator can change the certificate requirements (password requirements as well as idle time requirement).
I am the admin, any idea where this option is?

[Q] Credential Storage Password Annoyance

I login to a particular Wifi network that requires a user ID and password. Is there any way to automate the login process so I don't have to always enter these, and more importantly, I have to frequently supply my Credential Storage Password. Again not a problem, I know the password, but I'd like to make my phone remember it even if I reboot, so I can just walk in to the area, turn on wifi, and get connected. If this can be done through an app I'm OK with that.
A question goes into the Q&A section, obviously!
Thread moved.
D'oh! Sorry about that. The question still stands, thanks for the move.
Are you using server log in? I connect to my work network here, and it stores my credentials.

[Q] SGS3 network with Win8 gets error Astro/ES File explorer

Hello guys,
I had my phone working on my home network, but after wiping it to try a new ROM, I cannot connect back to my Windows 8 network.
Previously I was on a Homegroup on 5 PC's in my home... all the same local user account name and NO password.
Now I get a Login Failure message Using ES file explorer on my phone which lists some things that could be at fault, but none seem right. Ive been trying to change sharing options on my main PC to see if that helps, but it doesnt.
My phone "sees" the main computer when I do a LAN server scan, but clicking on the found server the error says it may be caused by: "WiFi is off, SMB server is out of network scope, The IP is invalid, Blocked by the firewall, SMB service is off" None of which I think are correct since I have not changed anything on the pcs up till now.
Astro is even less helpful and says: "No Windows shares found on network"
Any ideas?
Thanks guys,
Mark.
Even same thing happening to me. I assume win8 network is a complete ****... well.. I hope someone has answer....
Did you ever figure this out?
Same problem on my Win7 box, although it seems to come and go...

[Completed] [Q] Forgot router pass, i have to solve the issue with my phone only

I have changed router wireless password but i forgot it, now i cannot access wifi to configure it, is it possible to find the password that i typed when i configured it somewhere in my phone? I am using default samsung keyboard with default browser bundled in archidroid 1.7.1.8
Thanks in advence.
Hi there,
You can find all password stored in your device only if you have root acces.
Go to root/data/misc/wifi/ wpa_supplicant.conf and find there.
[TUT] How to Retrieve WiFi Passwords from Android (ROOT)
Good luck
umm, i forgot the wireless pass that i put when i configured the router, i configured it via my smartphone browser so i hoped i could view the password that i typed, it's not a browser saved pass so i can't see it in webview.db
In that case your only chance is to contact your internet provider and ask there for password.
Sorry

Stock Oreo: Can't Add 802.1x EAP Wifi - Settings Force Close

Hi,
I seem to be getting a force close of the settings app while trying to add my work's wifi manually as it's hidden. It doesn't seem to matter that I'm entering a real network or not, the process outlined below seems to produce a force close. Does anyone else experience this? I've tried two firmware versions "1305-2808 Telecom NZ 41.3.A.0.401" and "1305-1859 Customized AU 41.3.A.2.58", both give me the same error.
What's happening:
Open Settings
Press "Network & Internet"
Press "Wi-Fi"
Press "Add Network"
Enter any Network Name & select Security "802.1x EAP"
Set CA certificate "Do not validate" and enter any Identity and any Password
Press "Save"
Receive force close message "Settings has stopped"
Does anyone have any possible advice?
Cheers!
Just bumping, can anyone re-create this issue or is it just me?
41.3.A.2.107 - i have tried and also FC on settings, so you are not alone
Thanks! But dang, I guess it shows Sony really doesn't have much sales to corporate then if a problem like this exists. Not exactly an uncommon setup. Hopefully when 8.1 comes out it'll be resolved.

Hello, i have submitted the issue to Sony and they replied
"
Some secured Wi-Fi® connections require either server or mutual authentication. To be able to use these connections, you have to acquire and install two files on the device.
ca certificate
To enable the configuration of server authentication
The file should be in PEM format
The file extension must be .crt
client certificate
To enable the configuration of mutual authentication together with the ca certificate.
The file must be in PKCS #12 format and contain both the certificate and the private key for the client.
The file should be password protected with a known password
The file extension must be .pfx
Note! If the certificates are not available at the time of configuration, contact the administrator of the network you are trying to connect to, and request the certificates.
Android™ 8.0
To activate and install certificates files on the phone
Find and tap Settings > Lock screen & Security > Encryption & Credentials > Trusted credentials.
Drag the slider by a credential to the right to activate it.
If you want to install other credentials than the ones available:
Computer: Copy the two certificate files to the root folder of the internal storage, or the root folder of the memory card if no internal storage is available.
Phone: Find and tap Settings > Lock screen & Security > Encryption & Credentials > Install from device memory/SD card.
In the list of available certificates, tap the applicable files to install them
However, we are unable to provide the specific date for the release of software update specifically on your phone as it goes out batches by batches. Nonetheless, please wait for the notification to be sent directly through your phone to update.
At the same time, please make sure that your phone has enough free internal memory space for the update.
You can do so by moving media applications such as pictures, music, videos, WeChat and Whatsapp pictures to you SD Card using the File Commander Application or by clearing the Cache memory of all applications (Settings>Storage>Cached Data>OK)"
Btw, if you have any solution to fix the battery drain on the xperia xz , i would gladly accept it

Thanks for looking into this. I'll give this a go but I'm not sure if it'll work (or if our network team will give me the certs). My force close is experienced when attempting to manually add any 802.1x network with any settings at all and isn't specific to any particular network as per my steps. Something I missed in my original post is that our corporate network's SSID is hidden so i can't select it from the list of networks to add.
Fortunately, I've managed a work around for my situation in that I'm now using my company's guest wifi rather than the semi-trusted wifi zone.
Thanks again!
Unfortunately I don't have any fixes for the battery drain on the XZ, I'm reasonably content with the battery I'm getting out of mine in fact!
