Ip67, changable bracelet, hrm. I also read that will have dedicated mp3 player with output over Bluetooth so that's mean that will have a simple acces to internal memory to copy files from/to the warch. Maybe tiezen will be the challenge here and the compatibility with older devices. If original gear was announced with at least 1 day of battery and we get often 2 or 3 days maybe gear 2 will last at least 3 days on a charge. This will be good.

+ 2-3x better batterylife (with a lower capacity battery). What's going on here?? Tizen being efficient than android, or something else?
+ Can work as a standalone music player
+ Better fitness options like Heart Rate sensor.
+ More powerful SOC.
+ IrLED (WatchON)
+ Gear 2 Neo is much lighter compared to gear. Also no camera in Neo (good for those who don't want to spend on cam)
+ Same old screen, I keep this as positive because I had a feeling they would switch to those Mirasol or other 'bad' displays just to conserve battery.
+ Much better cam position.
+ IP67
I think it's an improvement overall. If they've increased video recording time then I don't care if it's tizen. It's really the only reason I use custom rom. I have a feeling I'm going to upgrade just for the water resistant and being able to change bands. From the pictures it looks like any watch straps can be used. I still can't tell if the speaker is on the strap. I'm hoping not.

Also, there's no speaker on the strap.

I assume it's next to the camera? I still can't spot it clearly. But hopefully Fomey can hack the ish out of it. Or maybe port tizen on the current galaxy gear so we can have longer battery life.

i guess better battery life than Stock would be a jump and the increased to 1GHz dual core means they probably arent changing it at all just turning it up which we can already do ourselves.
right now i get an easy 3 days on null and can run at 1.6GHz dual core ikf needed so battery and processor dont impress me on Gear 2.
with the standalone MP3 player and heart rate monitor i would ASSUME that i can now run without my phone and the Gear will connect to my BT headphones directly? this would be worth upgrading for.
if there truly is no Android option then i will not be an early adopter on this update though since i have seen what Sammy has in their store and i dont care for any of them and need my APK's to get it done right!
I hope they don't abandon the original.
Won,t it look weird to take photos with front facing camera. I mean you have to turn your hand to take photo or there is another camera too like in GG1?

This is a looooong lasting battery! Received the extended battery yesterday and fired it up for a full days worth of use. I literally had to go out of my way to kill it by the end of the day because it would not die. My ATT Samsung Galaxy S4 is stock rooted, with most Samsung gestures and bloatware frozen (via Titanium Backup). The device was tested under the following criterion:
- 25% brightness (was mostly indoors, so did not need the brightness cranked up)
- 100% on 4G LTE (no wifi usage as the LTE modem is usually a power guzzler and i'm usually in a densely covered LTE area anyways)
- Bluetooth was on at all times
- Streamed music for 2 hours via bluetooth to car stereo (maximum volume)
- listened to 1 hour of music via headphones (40% volume)
- heavy web usage and chat programs was continuously engaged throughout the day.
End result? ~9.5 hours screen on time, with 10% left to spare (could easily push to 10.5 hours if I wanted to).
The finish of the extended battery cover was adequate. Fit is fine and easily snaps into place.
If you want me to do any additional testing or anything else, lemme know and i'll try to help!

Read your post twice. Still desperately trying to find a sense in it that would justify opening yet another camera thread. Camera still superb at good conditions. And really crap at lowlight and fast moving objects. Shutter speed is pathetic. ONEs video/sound recording also way better. And I tested both for weeks. But wait: that's been basically said on every second page here.

They are both very very different!
I think Samsung could do better camera. In low light conditions it is crap, shutter speed is still very low and on 1080p videos you've got tearing smearing with picture zoomed in.
You know, low-light (especially with motion) is the weak-spot of the GS4 camera but we have plenty of examples of high shutter speed images in the various camera threads.
Captures of hose water, kids jumping and so on are "frozen" as long as it's medium light or above.

My low light experience with the S4 is superb. It's able to capture, in night mode, even pictures made in a dark room.
Anyway, use the flash if you in a dark place
I would agree, the s4 really has got itself a very good camera. Im an outgoing person and I take most of my photos in high or medium lights. Its very seldom that I would take pictures of something or someone in low lights. I would use a flash if i really want to capture them with as much detail as possible.
Heres my very first shot of my s4 after i got it out of the box. It was very cloudy thst day. I cropped the fountain area only.

All cameras are useless in low light unless you can control the shutter speed and keep the camera stable. Even high end Cannon or Nikon cameras need a good flash or a tripod to get good results in those kinds of conditions. If you have unwanted motion in the framing then it's game over. At the end of the day, if you can't get light through the lens and onto the sensor, you can't expect to get good pictures. There are dirty tricks that can are employed, such as a high ISO speed, merging images, or a large low res sensor, but at the end of the day you're still making sacrifices with the image.
This low light camera business has become a proper skit for selling smart phones.

Hello,
I'm currently doing R&D to create a strap adapter for the Gear S2 which will allow the use of any standard 22mm band w/1.8mm diameter pins. I'm expecting to try some prototypes in early January, to verify fit and finish.
I am open to creating a version that accommodates 20mm and 18mm as well if there is interest.
The options out there for replacement bands are.. extremely lacking. Case in point, there's no leather band available at the time of this writing. I know that many of us, myself included, would love to be able to wear any band we want.
Open to feedback and general opinion on the undertaking!
Sounds good let me know what you come up with. I'm really looking to make an adapter for a mesh black or Silver band along with other types too. Just have been so busy haven't had time to sit down and tinker.
Sent from my SM-N920T using XDA Free mobile app
I'm developing two designs concurrently, and will see which one turns out to be better and cost efficient. There will be at least 3 sizes offered, 22mm, 20mm, and 18mm , all of which will allow the use of standard pin bar straps. By the end of January people should be able to purchase them.
Sounds good, I would be interested in the 20 and 22mm adapters. I really can't believe Samsung skipped out on this feature. I honestly was going to go with the Moto 360 2nd Gen but couldn't pass up the rotating dial and I also needed 3G because of my job.

I can't say for certain due to the design variations, and then also the material used for manufacturing, but I would say a stainless steel version without the bar pins would be between $40 and $50 (for a set of 2 adapters). Each watch needs two adapters, and then you need two bar pins and whatever strap you want to use.
If a plastic adapter can be made and is strong enough, that would reduce the cost by about $10, so $30-40 for a set of two adapters.
Rough estimates but I would say that's the higher end of the price range. People are probably going to buy the adapter, then go to a jewelry store to pick out a band and have them install the band, due to the difficulty of bar pins. An alternative would be including two quick release spring bar pins which might be the most user friendly path to take.
That a not a bad price at all, you think it would be possible to use the push pins like the ones built into the watch band?

The adapter will insert into the S2 in the same, or similar, manner as the oem band does, however the 22/20/18mm straps will be attachable through pin bars only. Not sure if that answers your question, let me know if not.
Moderators: I want to be sure that I'm staying within forum guidelines; this thread isn't about me selling to anyone, but rather about feedback regarding the adapter.
Yes partially it does answer my question but I was thinking along the lines of this.

I too, am interested.
No worry on the pins, every strap I have purchased comes with a set and they are not hard to deal with at all.
Fred
The main issue is going to be the clip portion, which has a very very small amount of "bite". Even the stock connector if you hit it hard enough, will come off your wrist. I had it happen while putting my carseat (newborn) into the car - my watch hit the back of the carseat and it feel to the floor.
My designs have been keeping with this clip design, to utilize what Samsung provided. However, I'm not sure it's sufficient. It's a poor design on Samsung's part to do it like this in my humble opinion.
I will have some pictures very soon of a final prototype, before I get it made in stainless steel. Once its made in stainless steel and I verify it's as good as can be, I'll start selling them.
Most recent prototype, with carving marks from x-acto knife. The final version in stainless steel should look even better.

so seems like my front facing camera won't focus. it only has a set focus for whatever is in the background and will NOT focus on a face. it's absolutely awful. whatever is in the foreground is blurry and there's no options in the new Samsung cameras to adjust exposure or anything which also makes making some videos on the ffc suck. anyone else having this issue? my note 4 ffc was much better than this one. ugh.
Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
I have the same problem with mine. I thought it was because of the beauty filter.
maybe it's just how this camera is. pardon my ugly mug, but here's a great example. notice it's focusing on the background. it honestly seems just like it's a problem where it's focusing on infinity rather than what's in foreground. maybe a software tweak can fix it? I really don't want to return the damn phone because of this...

I also noticed this when i compared my s6 with my s7.
The s6 when I'm closer to the camera is crisper than the s7 but when I hold my arm strait the s7 wins almost like it finds the sweet spot, the s6 behaves smilar but like i said more crisper up close.
Both cameras show the face detect cirkel.
Could be an issue with the new 3D beauty filter maybe? (And yes i have turn both down to zero)
all the filters are off and it still does it.. unless it's the software processing in the background, who knows. either way I hope they fix it!

sounds cool. the quality is WORSE in low light, and it's very oil painty looking, which i presume is the processing..however, they don't give you raw features for FFC..they don't even let you adjust exposure which pisses me off, bc i used my note 4 to record guitar videos for youtube, and the FFC looked fine on the note, but it's so overexposed on the s7 it sucks.
front facing cameras don't support auto focus, they have a Fixed-focus lens, & since the sensor is so small there is no bokeh(blur), so its focus distance is set to infinity, that's why it looks a bit blurred when you are too close to it

yeah but the thing here is that previous phones didn't have this issue.
my note 4 is crisp and clear when you're close up, and shows much more detail.

Thats because its has a very wide f/1.7 aperture, it will give some blur at very close distance, since its focus distance is set to infinity
the note was f1.9. not that big of a difference to create such a drastic difference in quality.

Tested two S7 and both was blurry and looked lika filter all over the picture.
Then i tested two S7 Edge and they was crisp sharp, better than my S6.
Both the S7 and the S7 edge had the same camera sensors. Forgot to check FW version but since it is the sames sensors in both the s7 and s7 edge it may be a FW diffense.
What is your FW version on the s7 edges front camera.
hmm very interesting! I wonder if it's a firmware issue then. why would the edge have a different firmware than the s7 though?

Anyway if i get a new unit i will se if it has them same issue.
there's a video of ffc. you can see how blurry the guitar is compared to the background.
I couldnt find one so please remove this if there is one.
Here is the first picture I took with the V20.

I've been prepping for this thing to get into my hands by shooting in a few places that I usually find myself in, some being really low light. (Jazz clubs and art museums with fragile items.) I've shot in these spaces with every camera I've ever owned. (FF DSLR's on down to cellphones)

Up to you . Im going to keep mine and see if it gets rooted. If it doesn't... well, i might keep it quite a few month. after all i only paid 600+ for it, not 800+
I think that the problem relies on the ISO i was using. Let me show you all 3 pictures and zoom them in , you will see that the noise significantly diminishes .
Oh man. Looks like I need to get a case.
Camera on auto mode is AWFUL at any kind of action shots. In a CrossFit competition this weekend and the camera couldn't keep up at all and most shots are BLURRY. I ddn't go into manual mode cuz i figured the phone would keep up, wish i would have viewed the pics before. Disappointed big time with this.

I looked in the modes after the fact and did not see one, may need to find an alternative cam app. Problem was I know exposure and all that but when competing i gave it to my husband to take pics., i could have made corrections shooting manual but honestly, didn't expect to have to do so.

I actually really like how that looks. It's got a quality I really like to work with. Once I actually get my phone in hand and start playing with it, I'll see if I have the same type of noise. If it's the same and I can figure out a workflow on mobile to recreate what I used to do with my old Nikon D80, I'll share the workflow to make that kind of noise work for you.

Check the last post on page number one. There you will see that the noise was reduced alot from left to right. The first one is the same one i posted first, the second and third i lowered the iso and adjusted the aperture. Now, remember, i was using manual mode, if it had been in automatically, maybe it would have adjusted everything itself and reduce the noise on its own.

I'm actually very keen to play with the noise generated off of this sensor. Something to note is that on the Nexus 6, engaging HDR in the Google Camera app cleaned up a lot of the noise from that sensor's files and made them quite usable so I'll be looking into that too. But yeah, if the noise has certain characteristics, it can make for some good photos.
A couple of shots of a photogenic spider from yesterday. Between Google's compression during upload, then redownloading and uploading to XDA only to be compressed again, I think they still look pretty good.
Anybody know how to embed links straight from Google Photos?
On action shots , did you use burst mode. The LG G5, LG G4 and V10 were brilliant using this method. Another option is record in 4K and then extract 8mp stills from the video.
