Cm 11 keyboard on omnirom? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm loving omnirom the battery life is amazing and runs incredibly smooth. As a long time cyanogenmod user the only thing Im missing is the keyboard with the long press for question marks, comas, ect. So I had the idea to extract the keyboard from a Cm nightly, problem is it wouldn't install because of the original keyboard installed in omnirom(installed names matched). I also tried uninstalling the keyboard with titanium BU and then installing the keyboard, which worked, but once again problem arose because when i update to the next omni nightly it overwrites the keyboard with the stock omni keyboard.
Has anyone found a way to installed the CM keyboard on omnirom with out removing the original omni keyboard? Thanks in advance.

Are you installing it as System app? If so, do it as user app (data/app)

How do I go about doing that if I use any file manager or installer it automatically installs as a system app

There are many apps that can do that. Like Rom toolbox lite.
You open the app, go to application manager, tap on the keyboard app, tap advanced, convert to user app.

I'm at work right now I'll try it when I get home appreciate you input thank you

Sadly I tried to move the stock keyboard to a user app but it still wouldn't install the cm11 keyboard install and if I uninstall the original keyboard, it installs the cm11 keyboard as a user app also seeing as they are both called aosp keyboard looks like I'll have to deal unless I can find out how to change the name of an installed app

The app you need to convert to user is cm11 keyboard with the steps i gave above. So, it stays after a flash, you can also freeze the stock one using rom toolbox in order to have only one keyboard

I did as you said and will gladly try again when there is a new nightly up to see if it keeps the keyboard there
UPDATE
Just installed the newest nightly and even with the cm keyboard installed as a user app it removes it and installs the stock omni one

G2 launcher2.apk for AOSP rom ONLY

Here is the froyo launcher2.apk from the G2 system dump. You must be rooted and uninstall stock launcher2 first via root explorer or titanium backup. I also suggest making a backup first. It runs smooth on my incredible. 7 home screens, 3D app drawer, etc. I figured i would make it easier for anyone who wants it. Just download then place on your SD Card and install. You do need to allow installation of apps from unknown sources in application settings first.

Its a really nice launcher but the phone icon says "Application not installed" and I found no way to fix that. Its useless to me without being able to access my phone
I'm sorry I don't know. It works perfect for me on cyanogenmod 6 and Ruby and ultimate Droid. I don't know what to tell you

No need to be sorry. My phone is back to stock 2.2. I'm waiting for a replacement cause I'm having major issues. I'm sure that's why it's not working. Thanks dude
I tried to use this on CM 6.0.2 and after I download it says I already have it installed. I really just want the 3D app drawer. Any idea?

you need to long press the phone icon on the bar and when the menu pops up select "change shortcut" then select application and then click on phone and you should be good to go hope this helps you.
It's good tool. But I have only G7, hope yours can work correctly on my phone!
Thank you for sharing.
I've been looking forever for a stock froyo looking launcher that's more like the Nexus One. ADW is ok but I don't like the dock icons. The G2 launcher is perfect but I can't get the phone button to work on my Droid Incredible OTA 2.2 (Rooted). I've read through the post but havent seen any solution Long pressing on the phone button and changing the short cut doesn't work at all (read that in another post) SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!! I really like this launcher
Hey guys sorry for not replying sooner. Apparently this only works with AOSP roms (i.e. cyanogenmod, ruby, shadowrom) I'm updating the OP right now.

this is what i am looking for.
all you have to do is drop the LatinIME.apk in your system\app folder....replace it, fix its permission then reboot...after you try to use the keyboard, it will pull up the voice keyboard...close it then do it again and you should see your blackbean keyboard....i use it with whatever ROM im running at any given time
I installed it through apps installer. It didn't work the first few times but did after. It doesn't stayb installed though. I reinstall on every reboot or so

Must be installed to system/app and permissions set to rw-r-r for it to stick on boot. Sounds like it is in data/app.

i installed and ti said this is a system app, do you want to overwrite or something like that. So i think its going to the right location.
i fixed permissions in CWM, ill have to search for a way to set permissions, that must be different.
edit: downloaded solid explorer went to fix permissions and it woudnt let me do the combo you provided.
i got rw-r--r

Google play not working after CM10!

Hi I upgraded from CM 9.1.1 stable to 10.0.0 this morning.
I downloaded CM 10 from get.cm and installed it through ROM manager by SD caard option.
But after that I could not find gtalk available so I tried opening Google Play which is getting exited.
I tried re-installing Google play app, degraded it too, even flashed the CM10 ROM again.
Is it an issue of not installing Gapps latest version?

I don't mean to be rude but if I remember properly that is an issue causes by warez but anyways I solved that problem last time by installing lucky patcher and it will help remove any useless modification that is hindering your installation ... I hope that would help out

[Q] How to get s voice back after installing rom?

Hi, I just recently rooted my phone and installed the paranoid android jellybean rom. In doing so I lost my s voice. I was just wondering if there is a way to get it back. I know I can use Google now instead but it doesn't do commands the same way s voice does.
Thanks

Also, I preferred the old keyboard over this one, I'd there anyway to bring it back?

Plenty of keyboard choices to play around with in the play store, that's where I'd look for one. I prefer SwiftKey 3 This is a question you you might ask in the thread your Rom was downloaded from. I'd check to see what's already installed of course, Settings>Language and Input>Keyboards.
Thanks for the reply, i currently use SwiftKey but i used to have swype before i rooted my phone, do you know where i could download it? Also, I downloaded the s voice from the link you sent me but how would I install that?
Thanks

If you like Swiftkey, and Swype, then you should try Swiftkey Flow

I forgot that Microsoft renames downloaded executable files to ".zip". Use a file explorer app, like ES File Explorer, navigate to the downloaded app, and rename it Svoice.apk.
Google Swype beta and register for an account and u will get the baddest Swype out my brother. Fixed. Problem solved. To me it's a thousand times better than swiftkey.

I downloaded and installed s voice from the link you gave me but whenever I try to give it a command it does not recognize it. I might just stick to Google now unless you could figure out a way to get my s voice back.

Default app selection won't stick

This is driving me nuts and I need some help, please.
When selecting what app to use as default for things like opening web links or galary, the app won't stick and asks again the next time I do the same action. For instance, if I click on a link in a text it asks me what browser to use, I'll select the stock browser and then "always" so that it won't ask me next time, but then I'll immediately go back and select the same link and it asks again what browser to use. This does appear to be only happening with built in apps. This started about a month ago and I've used several ROMS since then (currently on latest synergy) and all with the same problem whether its an AOSP rom or TW.
This morning I Odin back to stock, rerooted and unlocked the bootloader, flashed synergy and let my apps reinstall from the market rather the using Titanium Backup to do it. I haven't restored any data from previous roms/apps and its still not keeping the default selection.
I've searched the web and other people are having similar issues after a reboot but mine happens constantly whether I reboot or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
