[a700][rom][4.1.2] CyanogenMod 10 for Acer A700 - Acer Iconia A700 and A510

Hey all,
I was looking for the older cm10 builds but I couldn't find any downloads.
So I just grabbed the source and compiled it for myself.
Works really well and in my opinion, our a700's just suffer too much lag on anything newer than 4.1.2.
If you haven't tried the older 4.1.2 roms, this is a great starting point.
This build is not my work, pawitp is the dev, I just grabbed source and compiled because I couldn't find a zip to download.
If there are known places where the older roms can still be found I will gladly remove this post if someone notifies me.
Anyways, just figured I'd share since it worked out well.
rom link:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407571859
I used this gapps:
http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
I'm also compiling an AOKP 4.1.2 rom but it's not done yet.
If it works well, I'll share the file also.

I'm feeling adventurous. I'll try it out and see how it compares with a built-from-stock ROM.

The 4.1.2 AOKP rom I'm working on is even better, just need a bit more time to fine tune it.
The A700 was never an AOKP device, the A500 was but there was enough differences to make it a bit of a challenge.
But I'm curious how someone else sees this so I appreciate the feedback!
I honestly didn't expect anyone to want to try these, I just figured to share them anyways.

Tried it out last night. Gotta say, though, I went back to a stock-based ROM after a couple hours. There wasn't anything wrong with it, really, but I didn't want to reformat my SD card again (the book I'm reading before bed is on it). It was quick and responsive. Everything seemed to work, but I had some issues with the combination of Flash & Lightning Browser + that I'd never had before. Flash was fine in the stock browser, though...Just gave me the weird 1 second playtime in any other browser.

Thanks for trying it out, honestly never really expected anyone to bother!
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by having to reformat your sdcard though?
Ah, I don't use flash at all so I wouldn't have seen that problem...

I found that in order for my card to work in any CM ROM, it has to be formatted as a Primary partition (found that out with another device with another card just last month)...Right now it's set as Logical which works just fine in stock-based ROMS, but I've got three years of data and random junk saved on it. I really am so lazy as to not want to back it up and format it again.
When it's formatted wrong, it causes a force close when you go to Storage in Settings, and it cannot be mounted. That's really the only problem I had, and it is something I know the solution to...So...No problems with your ROM. Heh.
It was very stable, and it was snappier than stock. I've not tried CM11, so I can't compare with that.

MT3G and Hero I NEED SOME HELP PLEASE!!

OK, i know im prob going to be it with allot of search answers and what not but i searched and i cant find the answer i need.
So i have a mt3g and it is rooted, cyan recovery, stock radio and stock spl. I have the ability to flash what ever rom i want, every time i do it works fine to install it. I normally run Cyan and the m_blend theme, how ever recently i have been trying out different hero roms. As it turns out i really like these roms and what they have to offer, however the only one i can get running smoothly is a jac heroski rom that apparently is out dated. Every time i flash to something newer it flashes fine and for the most part every thing work, how ever when i hit home i just get a loadin screen for at least 30 sec... now when i search this it says to make changed to my partitions on my sd card, but i am NOT running a partitioned sd card. Is that the problem? i thought that was only necessary for space on the G1? Any ways i guess what im asking is why does every one say to flash your spl or the rom wont install but it does fine? and why is it run fast except to home screen??
yes it's the problem. partition your sd with at least 96mb of linux swap. it has the same ram as the G1. Also, post this in general next time.
cool, thanx for the answer, how do i set that up? i searched for linx swap and came up with nothing?
Hi.
If you try Amon_RA recovery so you can do it from ther.
I would say that Amon_RA recovery is the best tool for flashing Rom`s.
If you have root and a terminal on your phone takes you to 2min after you've added recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.2H.img on your sdcarde.
go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530492
actually he has the mt3g, so he needs the 1.5.2G, not the H recovery.
make sure you back up your sdcard, though. its gonna erase everything on it to format it. (that caught me off guard, before. )
Thanks you guys rock... Now im looking for a good hero rom with all the working parts

i wouldn't go for a hero rom, personally. from what i hear they're unrelliable and slow. try cyanogens or dwangs. i say dwangs; i used it since 1.12 and only problem EVER was the random reboots which are now fixed.

You heard wrong. Plenty of these roms that these devs have worked on are quite reliable and more than ready for everyday use. The only problem that I partially agree with you on is the speed. I wouldn't say it's slow. They are not as fast as Cyanogen or another stock rom, but it's not to a point where it's unbearable or you can't live with it. Some are actually pretty snappy if you have your phone set up right, you just gotta know how to tweak it for your phone.

Exactly what he said....I will just add my two cents, as i have been in your shoes before. I have tried alot of ROMS and my favorite Hero(actually magic sense) rom is Trojan Hero (by Eugene373). everyone has thier own opinion just letting you know if you havn't tried it.
Use Swapper to change your swapper settings and tweak them to your phone. my settings are as follows 128mb swap and 80 swappiness
And one MAJOR POINT i can't stress enough which i noticed a big difference was the memory card. it's a known to have a class 6 sd card but for new people we never really know.
Once i changed it it gave me a big boost.
hope that helps

[CM7][POLL]Semi-official cm7 nightlies for target vega?

Please let me know, how much you want nightly builds for the vega tablet.
be honest - if you got no interested in them, say so - its not taken as offense.
we are probably too small to get included in the official build process, but i would provide semi official nightlies.
always build from latest cm7 sources. no mods, nothing changed, build the same way the official nightiles are build. on a regular basis. usually i am on my pc each day - being able to invoke the build script and auto upload it.
Voted for the regulary option but that is because I'm a flashoholic
At the moment I'm using your april 3rd version and flashed all versions before that. Especially when you can flash without loosing data/apps/widgets I see no reason not to update regulary.
I usually flash each version hoping some bug will be fixed, some performance increase will be seen, etc. But a weekly would be fine for me as well for example. Just very thankful for the work you're doing for the vega and CM7 is already an excellent piece of work on it.
I agree for 100%.
I´m also a flashoholic like dagrim1
Once or twice a week would be very appreciated.
Thanks for your time and work. Even when the Android 2.2 Vega rom runs a little bit smoother and more stable this ROM has so much more potential. And I love it really.

I can sign this..
I´m on corvus rom last week and something, but I would be really happy to try anything new...
so, my vote - yes I would flas them to try (for sure) and use them, if they would be better than corvus...

Yes please

One or two nightlys per week would be fab!
Hi my name is Harplo and I'm a flashoholic
what exactly is different to the viewsonic G 10? i mean in terms of hardware? because my theory is, like the dream/sapphire projects if this CM build could be built for "both" if the hardware is 99% same, then there would be a lot more interest.
i guess the first thing would be to check to see if the kernel sources are any different of the two devices. just a long shot that might save time and gather a lot more interest if they are very similar?
i hope to see them regularly, maybe once a week not like every night. i know that its a lot of work that goes behind it as well as time. specially if a person is doing it on their own.
thats more than enough demand. will starting building this once i finished the tablet tweaks... that long, the tablet tweaks builds are nearly the same as nightlies... just added my stuff

That is great. I wrote a message to Apache14 about starting a thread, but i did not get an answer. But i think he gets more then enough pm's from people wanting things.... Anyway it would be very nice when there would be a nightly. Flashed all your builds till now.
Thanks.

Basically... You have to have CWM installed. Then put the zip file on your sd-card and boot into CWM where you choose 'install from zip' and select the zip.
But not having to wipe depends on the update itself, not the method. Often when changing between roms a wipe is necessary, sometimes when updating a rom as well but very often you can update without any problems.
Great news about the nightlies!

Just discovered your nightlies and flashed them!
Looks great!
Thank you!
Sorry this is slightly off-topic, but for those of you who regularly flash nightly's: Do you have a method of easily restoring apps+data+settings other than Titanium? I have found using Titanium restore-all often leads to problems.
It would be great if somehow an app could allow our tablets and phones to automatically update the read-only partitions nightly, but still preserve... everything that is read/write (and then kill dalvik-cache and reboot).

Stock ATT 2.2 issues

I just tried to upload this through kies mini and everything seemed to go fine. However I cant get past the first setup screen because I keep getting FC's for calendar, media and logsprovider.
Any ideas what I can do to fix this?
Did you restore using TiBu? Sounds like you restored some system data. Never restore system data, only apps + data.
Thats possibly what happened but I think it was because it was rooted and lagfixed. Could it be anything to do with the formatting of the internal SD card which I think was EXT2?
Either way, I formatted the internal card and reloaded the apps and it fixed it.
Now running official 2.2 rooted and de-ATT'd.

I ran 2.2 for a while, but I got fed up with the quirks and overall crappy performance. When you get fed up with it, consider running a much better 2.2(.1) ROM. It'll probably take you about a month to switch. lol
That I can believe! I'm seeing quirks already.
I downloaded cognition 4.03 but havent done anything with it yet. I'm not sure how yet!

Mobiletechvideos has a nice 3 part step by step instructional video on how to flash a rom. He uses an older version of cog but ulk roms are the same installation, except cm7 and miui but that's a different animal.
I'm alternating between reading XDA and looking after my 3 year old who just had surgery. I'll have a go at this before I start asking questions about flashing and themes. However, is there a fix for the slow reporting of email in the stock app? Emails show up in the app but not in the notification bar for up to hours after received.

Use push GMail??? That's kind of what Android is set up to do. That, and don't use stock ROMs.
Never had a single issue with 2.1 using yahoo biz mail and regular mail with the stock app. I'm looking over the roms. I quite like the muttedblue theme and figuring out which roms it works with.

CM10

Official CM10 nightly
mms aint working yet but should in next official nightly. which should be in a few hours... other than that, official definitely had the most stable release!
NFC also isn't working but hopefully it gets fixed soon including MMS.
You'll probably just want to roll with the officials. Most everything you want has already been or is soon to be merged.
Anyone get WiFi tether to work? It worked for me on CM9
Just a question. Does CM10 have the long press volume feature to skip tracks while the phone is asleep? Love this about synergy

i have used about a day and here are my thought
unlocked bootloader
i have cleaned cache format factory reset before install
after boot i have loaded my app with data not bloatware with toolbox pro
using go launcher no live wall paper and juice defender
rest of app are... well just application and few games.
and here is real pro and cons
Pro
Fast, it does the job, google and now other jb features are works perfectly
unlock bootloader can be easily done thanks you adam.
boot time is faster than what i used to use AOKP milestone 6.1
Con
UNSTABLE, within half a day rebooted like 3~4 times while i was doing something
who know how many times it rebooted while i wasnt looking.. it seems more because from battery status
there are few blank spots. i have no idea what is wrong kernel perhaps?
i am not sure i thought CM is made from AOSP so i thought it should be pretty stable but i guess not.
also i have car blue tooth device with handset free (GROM) it wont connect and my logitech one works perfectly
DATA also not stable it think for battery it tries to turn it off (i think it's from juice defender) but takes about 10~15 seconds before i get the data
if you dont have problem with rebooting at random times, some glitches and no softkey (it's nightly so i cant really say it's bad rom)
this is the ROM.. it's faster than any rom i have tried.. what do you guys think??
maybe i should have tried longer but for me it was too unstable.
does cm10 have any critical bugs??
So, I was curious about a couple things.
First, how do nightlies work? Do you have to go and download a new file every single night and flash it? Or is there something working with the ROM that will flash a new version for you as it comes?
Second, I was curious as to when you guys think that CM10 for the SGSIII will be stable to the point where all major things, data, keys, gallery, camera, MMS, bluetooth, etc, are working reliably? I'm incredibly pleased with the stock experience, but there's always something to be gained from custom ROM's and I'm looking forward to being able to use CM10 I just don't want to miss a big part of my phone.
Not meaning to hijack the thread or anything! I'll throw in my two cents too by saying that I'd recommend the official CM10 based on the fact that MMS seemingly works currently and I'm unsure of how it's doing on the unofficial ROM.

Again, its fully stable. In your "second" part, literally every single thing you listed is fully working and stable. Except soft keys which were actually disabled because they have the same purpose as hard keys and just take up valuable real estate. Yes, nightlies are every night but you can dirty flash if you're lazy. You only really need to flash once a major fix or update has been merged. Just follow the changelogs.
And for you, based on what you reported as not-working, I'd also say you got a bad flash or something. Mine runs almost identical to what stock JB ran on my GNexus. Only better with mods

[Q] Sick of 2.3.4. Looking for something more fun.

Hey guys, been a fan of XDA for years, infinite amounts of knowledge here it seems, and I know nothing. While I could spend years reading all the posts and searching, I figured some of the more knowledgable members may be able to answer a couple quick questions without giving me TOO big of a hard time.
I have had my G2x for about a year which is running 2.3.4, March 2011 baseband. I used to own a G1 and a Motorola Cliq and had experimented with rooting it. I am looking for something new and different, as I'm kind of sick of regular old GB. There is so much knowledge here, and on some ROMs 100's of pages of stuff to read, which unfortuantely most of which I find confusing. I know nothing about baseband versions, radios, etc. I plan on researching a lot of these things, as thats obviously the only way to learn.
My Fiance and I both have the G2x, and are both needing to be hard reset and they're running slowly and the battery seems to be draining faster and faster. I planned to do a hard reset this weekend, but figured I may experiment with rooting and custom roms. If you guys can answer some questions for me, I'd greatly appreiciate it! I know that all this information is likely out there, although I feel completely lost and overwhelmed, unsure where to begin. I had the following questions.
If I decide to root the phone, and try different roms am I always able to "unroot" the phone and bring it back to factory just as it is now? Is this general rooting guide good for 2.3.4? Can I root without loading a custom Rom? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594650
I had been noticing that with Hellfire Sandwhich, and EaglesBlood there are some known issues, like bluetooth I believe, but I'm having a hard time seeing what isn't working currently. I would like to try ICS, but want something stable where I'm not going to experience a lot of programs not working. I don't do a lot on my phone but would like all the little things to work. How would I find "current bugs" or something similar, as there are hundreds of posts I can't seem to find the information.
Is there a certain rom that most people recommend for ICS that is more stable, possible CM?
How common is it to completely brick your phone, if you're not an idiot and follow instructions?
I was told when I bought the phone that it would receive ICS OTA, but this seems debateable. Am I better off waiting to see if this happens, or what do you guys recommend?
I'm sorry this seems like a stupid post, and that I haven't done any reading, because I have, I'm just confused as hell. I REALLY appreciate everyone's help! I've always enjoying messing with phones, although there is just too much to it with Radios, baseband, kernels, all of which I know nothing about, and mean nothing to me at this point. THANKS guys!
That guide will work for you. The good news is that the G2x is close to impossible to brick (it can be done, but definitely takes some talent). NVflash can be used 98% of the time to fix your phone.
As far as ROMs go, you have to experiment. Every G2x is different, and handle different setups differently. With that being said, Kwes's rooted stock ROM fixed a lot of the problems I had with my G2x. If you're bored with stock, most CM7 based ROMs are very stable. As far as ICS goes, Genesis was always my favorite, and the most reliable for me. I recently started playing with Paranoid Android CM9, and so far it works great, and provides a really unique experience.
Just read the first few posts of every ROM and it should provide you with most of the information you need to make a good decision. Hope this helps, and happy flashing!

I've tried pretty much every ROM available (save for quite a few GB ROMs and two JB ROMs), and I feel that the CM10 Paranoid Android is the smoothest ROM available. Every ICS ROM is smooth when you first install it (and I especially love all the features in Domination and Genesis), but after a week or so of use, your phone will start lagging again. With PA, lag is at a minimum. I was on CM9 PA last before getting sick of lag before switching to a GB ROM for a month or so, then decided to finally try out CM10 PA because I just missed flashing new ROMs and I was very impressed. CM10 version runs WAY better than CM9.
I just rooted my phone about 1 week ago and used the guide that the OP posted..everything worked great...I'm currently running hellfire 2.3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420972&highlight=hellfire+2+3) and freaking loving it...sooo much better than stock...basically follow the directions from the thread you posted and you'll be fine...
It depends on how important it is to you to have good picture quality with your phone. Even though this phone doesn't have the greatest camera, the stock camera is the best. If you flash to a CM ROM the quality is horrible. I love the performance of CM, but the camera quality was a deal breaker for me.
I ended up trying some stock 2.3.3 roms, but I have ended up back on my rooted stock running 2.3.4 with some tweaks from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1806868&highlight=tweaks and I am running faux's 14b2 kernel. With these two things my phone runs really good.

I was able to find http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1891480 which says it's CM10, although says alpha and hackfest stating it's buggy. The other version that I found was CM9. Is this the version you're saying is the smoothest?

That's the one. It's no less buggy than any ICS ROM if that's the flavor your going for. CM10 is smoother than CM9. At least in my experience. Does anyone else want to chime in?
The only thing that took me back to CM9 was the battery drain issue on CM10.
On a different note: my phone only likes stock ROMs, but I recent found out about Weapon a New Clip, and it is pretty sweet, and just as reliable as anything else I've ever used

CM10 Paranoid looks soo beautiful and I'm really tempted to try it out, but I have a really good thing going on right now with the hellfire...it's super stable and smooth plus I have a ics theme on it so that keeps things fresh for me. I do have one question for those on CM10 Paranoid. Is it stable enough that you can run the 4.2 gapps or any themes/launchers on it??

I know I tried it. Not a whole lot of difference. I had my wife's stock g2x to do a side by side comparison. I was hoping it would be better.
Unrooting and bringing back to stock.
Hey guys, I rooted my phone and installed Hellfire sandwhich about a month ago. The rom seemed to run good at first, and progressively get slower. I just picked up a Nexus 7 and have no desire to run custom roms on my phone anymore as the tablet has all the bells and whistles, therefore at this point i want to bring my phone back to original condition.
I used this guide to root my phone - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1594650 and installed HFS from there. I am looking at threads to unroot and some of them are using ADB. The first thing that I did is to load my Nandroid backup from when I oringinally rooted my phone, and I am receiving the message saying "Checking MD5 sums...MD5 mismatch!". I have gone to this thread- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714114, but I am unable to access my phone via ADB, as it's saying "Error: Device not found". I have tried to boot into CWM and plug the phone in there, but appears that all my drivers are not loading - http://puu.sh/1JH8J and it's still saying device not found. I have tried enabling USB debugging, as well as turning it off. When I plug the phone in, I only have the option of "Media Device (MTP)" or "Camera (PTP), no "charge only" option under "USB Computer Connection".
I am unsure what to do at this point. I have installed the "LGUnitedMobileDriver S4981MAN38AP22 ML WHQL Ver 3.8.1" drivers and still receiving the same error. Sorry if this has been addressed, as I'm sure it has, but can someone point me in the right direction. Thank you!

Have you tried this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048274 and unroot with SuperOneClick or whatever.
OP have you tried an MIUI based ROM? That's always been a bit of a different experience for me.

I have tried this, and that's when I'm receiving the "Checking MD5 sums...MD5 mismatch!" error after choosing to restore.

I'm sick of gingerbread!
I want sum different. I've had eaglesblood 2.3.4 for years on my g2x and I have tried
Hellfire - works for a while then stuff goes wrong after a wk or so
Tried ICS - stuff is always wrong
On MIUI - and simple stuff is not working after days
I have been flashing phones for a very long time and all the ROMs above I have flashed over n over again and the fact still remains. They DONT Work!
I'm about to flash my eaglesblood back because that's the only thing that works the longest wit no bugs.
is there anything available besides eaglesblood that's stable?
geesh!!

I think Marie Antoinette said, If they don't like Gingerbread then let them eat cake, or something similar.
