[Q] Rooting & Warranty - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought Nexus 5 yesterday .
the retailer shop said that my warranty will be void if i root the device .
the guy also said he can check my phone whether the phone have been rooted or not even if i unroot it .
So my question is, Is it possible to check the phone used to be rooted even if i unroot it?
or he just bluffing ?
Sorry for my bad english .

If you flash the factory images, lock the bootloader and reset the tamper flag, they wont be able to know if it was ever rooted.

Even if you Root and unlock the boot loader, you can revert back to previous state which your warranty statement claims by following this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513701

Does Samsung Know When You Root Your Phone?

I called Samsung today to get my Stereo Headset replaced and the guy said my Nexus S 4g is already out of Warranty. Now of course i didn't tell him i rooted my phone but wtf I just bought it 12/21/2011. Anyone?
Maybe they were BLUFFING, because lots people buy this phone is because this is Google's son, pure blood of android, we can say 9 of 10 nexus were unlocked and rooted
So it won't be surprised that they assuming you unlocked and rooted it...
Even somehow nexus s has background transmission to them and tell them status, how can they possibly know that unlocked rooted phone is yours?

LMFAO its all good
I don't know if Samsung can tell, but since we're talking about Google Experience devices, I know Motorola can tell if you've ever unlocked the bootloader on your Xoom. If you boot a Xoom into the bootloader's fastboot mode and type "fastboot getvar all", there's a variable there called "IsWarrantyVoid". Out of the factory, it's set to "no", but as soon as you unlock the bootloader for the first time, it changes to "yes". Once IsWarrantyVoid is set to yes, no amount of re-locking will ever get it to change.
The Nexus S doesn't have this fastboot variable, but there could be something stored in the bootloader somewhere that we can't see; something that can tell Samsung if the bootloader has ever been unlocked before. Sounds kinda fishy to me.
my point is , even they know the phone is unlock unrooted , how can they possibly know it is your phone ?
just like 10 people buy a same phone at same time in same place and 9 of them unlocked unroot , and the one who didn't unlock , didn't root calls for help and be told his warranty is avoided ...
or in USA you buy a phone need to binding with your personal ID ?
phone's IMEI matches with personal ID ????
I'm pretty sure it will show up even if you relock it. I unrooted my phone once and it still displayed the unlocked padlock on the bootloader screen.

I don't think they would know it's your phone but they can know if you've unlocked and relocked the bootloader to skirt the warranty issue.

I think even if they do track the nexus's that are rooted or stock they cannot identify your device without checking the IMIE or something ...

Rooting voids warranty? yes?

I have purchased k900 recently and I want to root my mobile but I know it will void the warranty. So the question is how to avail the warranty? Do they really check whether the device is rooted or not? Can we just unroot the device and return back to the stock firmware and avail the warranty? I heard latest phones have some mechanism to detect whether the phone is rooted or not and even if we unroot the device they will still know that it was rooted at some point of time. Is it true?
I have already posted this thread in the lenovo k900 sub forum but realised that this question is more of a general sense.
Do anybody have something to say about it?
In some devices yes and in some no

In some devices its true that they will come to know.. They come to know from the bootloader.
I m using HTC so i can tell you on that.. after rooting it shows unlocked in bootloader mode.. It can be locked again.. For that a RUU is needed which is stock rom..
From what I read the one who for sure do it is Samsung on the Note 3 (And I think other models but not sure which) they have what's called Knox 0x0 and when you root it it trips it to show Knox 0x1 and as of now I haven't seen a way to undo a tripped Knox but there are ways to root now without tripping Knox but I rooted my Note 3 and tripped Knox but don't really care Lol. But a tripped know will void warranty.

Yes, rooting your device can void warranty, but you would need to be very unlucky. In most cases when you return your device there may be a fault with it and you can simply relock your phone and reflash stock rom before returning device. In other caes you may have bricked your device, i.e. your device does not work at all. This has happened to me and others and when I returned it they never checked. As I said, you would have to be very unlucky for them to void your warranty.....but it is the risk you take

My suggestion is: Just do it and forget about the possibility that you are going to need your warranty. On my own experience thinking about the warranty just makes Murphy's Law to come.

[Q] I need help with my Htc One M8 Verizon (Rooted)

I purchased a Verizon htc one m8 off some guy and i went home erased the phone a 2nd time and realized something called SuperSu was installed and i knew right then & there this fool gave sold me rooted phone so i click the app and pressed full unroot then restarted the phone the app was erased... Restarted the phone in bootloader mode or what ever and the top says Unlocked and S-off but no tampered sign and the software status says official so the questions i have are
1) Do i have to re root this phone in order to lock the bootloader and return to S-on?
2) Will re locking the bootloader or returning to S-on brick my device or any chance of bricking my device ?
3)If my software status says official is that good or bad ?
4) Will i be able to install future updates at all if i leave the device like it is now ?
Thnak you for taking your time to read this.
Why would you want to relock it? Learn how to do things this way and take advantage is the fact that you aren't locked down to Verizon's chains.

Verizon doesnt care if its rooted or S-OFF.
If I have to send a phone back I send it with my own ROMS on them.
They have never said anything.
As well, I dont recommend turning S-On as you have a much greater chance of bricking the phone.
I would just leave it as it is... Well, actually... I would load my ROM
Well lol

unlocking bootloader void warranty?

just bought a USA version. wants to know if unlocking bootloader void warranty? if so then I could just get a third party warranty from squaretrade or something
Unfortunately yes it would.
If you are fully familiar with rooting , hopefully you won't need a warranty

Bootloader is locked when you flash official firmware, so yes.

Bricked (unlocked) P20 Pro replaced under warranty (UK)

Guys
I managed to brick my P20 Pro flashing an update. The phone was unlocked and, according to Huawei), out of warranty but I chanced my arm and sent it back for a warranty repair as it would not switch on again. The replacement is in the post. I wont get to unlock the bootloader again unless they bypass Huawei but I get my phone back.
So don't lose hope if you brick your phone flashing, it's worth a punt at getting a warranty repair.
did you tell them you had tried flashing a different rom on it - if so you were very lucky

- at least they didn't work out you had tried flashing it as they try to claim once you unlock the device the warranty is void or there is no marker like there is on samsung devices.

They only have the IMEI check, that should have flagged that the phone had been unlocked but guess they didn't check.
Under European law, thankfully we are still covered (just), unlocking the bootloader is not a reason to invalidate a warranty if the phone has a hardware fault within 6 months. Maybe they don't want that fight?

if the consumer can prove there was a manufacturing fault that caused the problem they are entitled to a repair for to upto 6 years after purchase in england (5 years scotland). We are also covered if a standard update from a manufacturer causes our devices to fail because of the update.
How can you be out of warranty when the phone just came out? Lol

I've been flashing phones for years and very careful, but HRUpater failed part way through and bricked the phone. Would not turn on at all. It was probably hardware waiting to fail but too much of a coincidence.
