I tried using SWAP if you mean the same. It's possible even on stock kernel. Boosted my RAM upto 3GB but hardly could notice any difference. 1080p videos still wasn't playing smooth.
Anyways, you can go ahead and try on stock kernel. I used that for 2 days didn't feel any notice so switched back as someone said (at facebook) that he also did that to his memory card and it got corrupt after using 2 months.

Expanding ram will not make phone play 1080p videos instantly...its merely CPU GPU stuff.....it can only provide some more space to run apps!!
XL has a 1GB of ram....out of which 800 MB is user acessible!!

Ya figured that! the reason 1080p videos doesn't work is because Sony underclocked the processor to 1ghz. As we have seen in custom kernels overclocking helps in 1080p video playback

Well I don't think playing a 1080p video on a non HD screen gives a better viewing experiance

ans: use thunderzap4.1 kernel which support zswap...by overclocking cpu 1080p video playback will support, but screen resolution will stay same as stock...no need for 1080p.

[Q] RAM in HD2 vs. SGS 4G

How come the HD2 shows more RAM in the Manage Applications options? My girlfriend's HD2 typically has 200+ MB free, while my SGS 4G always has around 130 - 150 MB free.
Here it shows that the HD2 has weaker hardware for memory than the SGS 4G, so I'm just curious.

Can HD2 record/play 720p videos? If not, that's probably where the biggest difference is coming from.
I'm not entirely sure, the most time I've spent with the HD2 was rooting it and flashing a ROM for her. Why would that be the case if we're not constantly playing a 720p video? I'd understand if my average RAM was what it is while playing a video, but instead the average is like that all the time.

Friend, it took me a while to understand how RAM works on phones. It's used differently than on PCs, which is what I'm familiar with. I wouldn't pay it any attention if your device is still functioning smoothly.
For 720p the GPU needs more dedicated RAM. This memory is reserved and cannot be used by anything else (unfortunately.)
It' is possible to build a kernel with about 64MB more RAM available (google 64MB RAM hack), but you'll lose ability to work with 720p.
Ah, that makes sense. I know nothing about building custom kernels, and really don't want to risk breaking the ROM I have currently installed. The effort doesn't seem to be worth what I'd get out of it. Thanks for the insight!
dude, don't remove 720.
The camcorder records terribly with it, imagine it without it.
also, this phone has more powerful processors and a bigger battery (needs to be handled more carefully) Also, cpu/gpu is better.

[Q] is 1080p recording on sl possible?

is 1080p video recording possible on our sl with any tweak or overclocking or anything else?if not give reasons for it.i know we have not got stable 720 p in any custom ics or jb rom but can we get it in any rom stock or custom?

Not possible. Its a hardware limitation.
which hardware can u be more specific is it the ram, processor, chipset or anything else.i have searched and found that lg optimus 2x has 512 ram and records 1080p so its not the ram so it must be processor is it that?

There's no way you can identify the single responsibility of an hardware limitation, it's brobably a multiple effect of different factor. By the way, who cares? The result is the same, as vishal24387 said, it's just impossible.
Cheers

Probably the camera itself is bad enough too.

Queries about xperia s.......

Hi Friends,
I want to buy a new phone but i am confused between xperia s and samsung galaxy s2. I feel that the only downside in xperia s is the 32 GB fixed memory.
Is 32 GB really enough? I have also heard that only 25 GB is available for the user, why is it so? What's occupying the rest of the storage space? Is it the pre installed bloatware? Is there an easy way to get rid of it, I mean without rooting?
Another big question is what is the size of full HD videos taken by xperia s?
Please help......

Depends on your usage , 25gb free space is enough for alot of songs and some games but I think that with movies in fhd you will use the memory very quickly, the space taken is for the system itself.
I can't understand the last question , the Xperia s has an HD 720p screen 16:9 and it will be perfect for movies as most of them have the same aspect ratio.

Thanks for the reply, i was actually asking about the size of video in MBs but i have already got the answer, its somewhere around 90 MB for i minute in 720p mode.
Anyways, i am now looking at the xperia ion HSPA as it price has gone down recently in india. Any ideas about it? Is the camera on ion just as good as xperia s? Also, i am a bit skeptical about its battery life as i have heard some bad things about it because even on ICS people are saying its still not quite nicely optimized.

Why do androids need so much power?

I know there is a thread about this somewhere, but i wanted to ask this in our forum (rethorical question)
Why are companies making 4 core cpu and 2 gb ram phones, i mean with those spec are ridiculous, you could play 8 different android games at an instance or have 40 background apps
Our pico i a great example, it works on games flawlessly, i can't say what i can't do on it
I dont even know a 512mb ram <1ghz single core phone which would lag at multi tasking, web browsing, office, gaming 'n stuff
our pico got scorpion cpu which is good for multitasking
our device is best in its range

Only problem for me are flash videos or high bandwith videos.. for example watching sports streams.. 500-1000 kbps is OK, but over 1000 lags too much.. 2000 kbps videos in Sopcast won't even run.
So I would like to have some faster CPU/more RAM, but I still like this phone so I am not considering buying a new one yet..

I know, there is a reason why they make 2core CPU-s and I just pointed to one of the examples
I think prob is with android coding. You see wp8 you can't just have any lag with try as you might and ios and bb10 seem to run perfectly with their respective configuration. That is why I am sick of android and am going to buy a Nokia lumia 820 or iPhone 4.

512mb still enough for android today?

I want to buy a new phone, looking at some dualcore models with mali 400 graphics, but only 512mb ram.
Do you guys think 512mb ram will still do the job in ics/jb when i want to game a bit? Mostly clash of clans, temple run and subway surfers.

I have a HTC sensation that have 1.2 Dualcore + 512Mb ram and it run that tipe of games with no problems.

This is pretty much the best way to sum this up. If you're just looking for an everyday experience - it is enough.
Depending on what frequencies your carrier uses, check out the Blu Life Play. There are two models; one does 850/1900 MHz, the other I think does 850/2100 MHz for 3G. It has 4GB of internal memory, however it takes a 64GB without issue and supports install apps (and app data!!!!) to external memory (like Gingerbread phones and before used to do). It's also dual SIM and does DC-HSPA+ if your carrier supports it.
It runs (almost) stock Android 4.2 and it's only like $215 USD without contract.
The cheap Huawei Y300 is also equiped with only 512MB RAM.
It's running games pretty good with apps like whatsapp and swiftkey in the background.
Of course you can forget multitasking with many apps running ... or opening a lot of sites in the browser.
512 mb is okay for Jellybean, but it definitely depends on the use case. The games you mentioned run fine as long as the screen is not HD. I ran NEO GEO games and Ridge Racer 3 on PS1 emulator and they ran fine on 512 mb RAM + A7 dual core at 1.3 ghz with Mali 400 GPU but can't have many apps running on background or many tabs open in brower.
There are 2 threads devoted to questions about devices, please repost your question in one of these two threads: The what should I buy thread or The Device Suggestion Thread.
Thanks!
