Queries about xperia s....... - General Topics

Hi Friends,
I want to buy a new phone but i am confused between xperia s and samsung galaxy s2. I feel that the only downside in xperia s is the 32 GB fixed memory.
Is 32 GB really enough? I have also heard that only 25 GB is available for the user, why is it so? What's occupying the rest of the storage space? Is it the pre installed bloatware? Is there an easy way to get rid of it, I mean without rooting?
Another big question is what is the size of full HD videos taken by xperia s?
Please help......

Depends on your usage , 25gb free space is enough for alot of songs and some games but I think that with movies in fhd you will use the memory very quickly, the space taken is for the system itself.
I can't understand the last question , the Xperia s has an HD 720p screen 16:9 and it will be perfect for movies as most of them have the same aspect ratio.

Thanks for the reply, i was actually asking about the size of video in MBs but i have already got the answer, its somewhere around 90 MB for i minute in 720p mode.
Anyways, i am now looking at the xperia ion HSPA as it price has gone down recently in india. Any ideas about it? Is the camera on ion just as good as xperia s? Also, i am a bit skeptical about its battery life as i have heard some bad things about it because even on ICS people are saying its still not quite nicely optimized.

[Q] RAM in HD2 vs. SGS 4G

How come the HD2 shows more RAM in the Manage Applications options? My girlfriend's HD2 typically has 200+ MB free, while my SGS 4G always has around 130 - 150 MB free.
Here it shows that the HD2 has weaker hardware for memory than the SGS 4G, so I'm just curious.

Can HD2 record/play 720p videos? If not, that's probably where the biggest difference is coming from.
I'm not entirely sure, the most time I've spent with the HD2 was rooting it and flashing a ROM for her. Why would that be the case if we're not constantly playing a 720p video? I'd understand if my average RAM was what it is while playing a video, but instead the average is like that all the time.

Friend, it took me a while to understand how RAM works on phones. It's used differently than on PCs, which is what I'm familiar with. I wouldn't pay it any attention if your device is still functioning smoothly.
For 720p the GPU needs more dedicated RAM. This memory is reserved and cannot be used by anything else (unfortunately.)
It' is possible to build a kernel with about 64MB more RAM available (google 64MB RAM hack), but you'll lose ability to work with 720p.
Ah, that makes sense. I know nothing about building custom kernels, and really don't want to risk breaking the ROM I have currently installed. The effort doesn't seem to be worth what I'd get out of it. Thanks for the insight!
dude, don't remove 720.
The camcorder records terribly with it, imagine it without it.
also, this phone has more powerful processors and a bigger battery (needs to be handled more carefully) Also, cpu/gpu is better.

The question is, is 32Gb enough for YOU ? Do you store music / video or stream ? I hardly use any of my internal 16Gb, but I do like having an external SD to load my music on to - I don't have to worry about it competing for space with apps, and I can pretty much put anything I want on there without having to pick and choose (I only have ~25Gb of music, so I could conceivably put it ALL on an SD card, even). But some people don't need that.
The OS and pre-loaded apps occupy the space that's already taken. It's like that with any OS - it's going to take up space.
As for the HD video question... I'd look up the bit rate and do some math.

[Q] Can i go for a xperia J????

Hi guys,
Im new to this forum and im going to buy my first android mobile. Im thinking to go for xperia j. I've gone through all the specs of this but still im slightly doubtful if this will get lagged after upgrading to JB.
My usage is
Hardcore gamer in pc but not in mobile. Will play in mobile bit rarely.
Heavy browsing and social networking.
App lover.... will install lots of apps.
not a big fan of mobile video recording.
Clicks pictures occasionally.
Does a lot of IM.
So now somebody pleaase tell me if i can go for xperia j. If not, what alternatives do i have.
android 4.1 will bring performance improvements like project butter = Vsync tripple buffering & intuitive touch. the internel memory is only 2gb. & app data partition is 750mb i think but there are ways around that to install more if needed. all other alternative devices like u & sola wont be updated to 4.1 jelly bean. i my self came from xperia ray i find xperia j better. with a few tweak scripts and things its alot faster than when i first got it. hope this clarifies things for you.

No mafter buddy if it will be jelly bean
My friends have problems with this mobile
Also it is of around 300$ still not capable of playing 720p videos
Also it has 480*854 resolution but it has andreno 200 which is quite outdated for this price
Better go for xperia u(no sd card support), xperia go, xperia sola
Samsung galaxy ace 2 these are far better for same price perform 3 times faster than xperia j:victory:
I am also a hardcore gamer on pc
But I use android for playing also when I am not on pc
As it got some exactly same games like pc
Mc3(battlefied 2) max payne 1, GTA vice city etc and the mobiles I suggested u will run these games ultra smooth

which mobile are u using nishuy21??
im not much concerned about 720p videos....thats ok for me.....
i do some serious multi tasking.... n i dont wanna get any lag while i do...this is my major concern..
More cores don't mean better performance my girlfriend has a xperia u and it lags and the screen redrawing is rediculase. I game a lot on my j and the only game it struggled is GTA my Xperia ray did aswell untill I overclocked it to 1.2ghz and then it was fine.
im using this J almost 2 month..
nothing goes wrong so far
wide screen
beauty device , slim elegant
and its cheap
if you want to stay in stock firmware , locked , just use V6 Super Charger make ur J peform better
based 512MB ram , 1GHz single core , i say its not for gaming , but i play a lot game on it LOL
i use EPSX there, lil bit lag only , some HD game , lil bit delay too , but low game , working fine..
if u decided to to unlock bootloader
theres is a Kernel ICS Vengeance overclocked it to 1.3GHz , its fine ofc *main problem cant use the CWM backup/restore*
if you want to use ClockworkMod working 100% just find "adfad666" thread
and CyanogenMod 10.0 jLo fxp 205 so far , its stable for now with sub lil bugs left , just wait till we get full fixed CM 10.0 , and J ready to rock
so far i think J its a cheap but valuable devices to learn new things *since im new on android , still got a lot to learn*
and J its not build to be extreme gaming device imo.
I think yes, this phone is cheap and it does have what you need..
Its around $210 in my country..
And this will be update to JB

I have xperia tipo, galaxy s2
And my friends have xperia go, sola and ace 2 these are best in this price
And u can search a bit at xda u will find xperia j is lagging for some people
And if u are a gamer than u must know the performance difference between single and dual core CPU
Also if u don't care about 720p videos but if u are getting 720p video playback than there should be no problem..
U can compare the review at gsmarena.com of xperia j ,go , sola and galaxy ace2 u will find yourself... The difference:good:
U want multitasking the Mobiles I suggested u above give u better.. Than xperia j
And also galaxy ace 2 has 768mb ram and is also upgradable to jellybean...

4GB Internal Memory - Enough?

Aaah! Trying to find if someone has posted a question like this using the title is difficult, it's too general!
I'm trying to ask J users if 4GB internal memory works well for people's needs?
I understand that it can vary, but in general?
My usage:
- Typically about 15 - 20 downloaded apps
- Very few games, only one or two usually
- I like to keep certain Google apps updated like Maps as I use that
Would I be considered a 'light' user or a normal user?
Does the OS on Jelly Bean use much of the internal space?
To be honest, I update my phone about once per year so I don't need to 'future proof' my phone too much but still I just don't want to download about 15-20 apps then find that I have to uninstall standard OS apps!
Thanks for any thoughts :victory:
Hey your phone don't lag!

Okay, if you find internal memory insufficient use apps like directory bind or something...I'm sure there are many applications for changing memories..
Hit the thanks button instead of telling it....
thank you

4gb? You can max out at 32gb via vold.fstab. Do it and keep downloading as much as you like. Even better with link2sd.

Yeah I use a 32GB for music and I'll likely upgrade to 64GB soon. My last two phones had 8GB internal (about 5GB user available) and I was wondering is the 4GB internal (2GB user available) a frequent problem for users. I have to admit I've never been fond of apps 2 SD etc. It seems like a fix for a problem.
Nah I personally too don't move apps.... in SD card but in JB it takes care of this itself

Question for Xperia E3 Owners

This looks like a great phone and I'm planning on purchasing it soon. Only £100 on amazon here in the uk for the unlocked version. My main concern is the storage. Many reviews are saying that you only get about 1.2gb and that apps cannot be moved to SDCard. Can anyone that owns the phone tell me if this is actually a really big problem as every other aspect of the phone looks great for the price.
Finally since this phone was just released recently how likely is it that sony might give us official lollipop sometime next year?
The phone ia great . But as it is a budget phone so you will have to compromise for something.. So here The storage is low. If you like to try out new apps then this phone can be a bit irritating for you. But you can root your phone and swap or link ext sd card to int. App 2 sd feature doesn't work for all the apps moreover gapps itself consume lots of space which cannot be moved.and about the update, lollipop can be expected as sony is trying to make this device head turner :cyclops: but cant say anything about software update team of sony :silly: but one major update will be releasesd which will be either 4.4.4 or 5.0 . Two minor updates already rolled out.
If you dont have any problem with swapping or linking storage. Then this device is deal breaker at that price :fingers-crossed:

Thanks! Since I have a htc sensation with only about 900mb of storage I've gotten used to keeping things minimal in terms of apps so It wont really be a problem for me and hopefully when root comes out i can make use of the extra space on my SDCard.
Also Im not expecting a super fast phone for the price but is the performance decent for the price? I know kitkat is way less resource intensive compared to previous versions but I've never used one with a sony skin before.
some of apps are movable to sd card but game data etc. are not movable so if you are hardcore gamer who wants to have a lot of games installed on this phone , dont buy this device until root comes out ... its performance is great , i havent expected any lag during normal use like browsing facebook ,being on google chrome etc. , games also run great , i tried Real racing 3 and it ran without problem . But there comes the storage problem .. i wasnt able to install the game with all the content so i couldnt continue playing the game because it wont allow me to download more data ... but if you are not a gamer ( like asphalt 8 , real racing 3 , games bigger than 1gb ...) , the phone is very good for its price and it has nice build quality (no squeaks etc.)
for me its a nice budget phone for people who are not hardcore gamers sorry for my bad english

Sony skin is not that bloated.. but some processes of sony apps eat small amount of ram .And Some apps like sony select or whats new are of no use .! I removed those apps ..! And processor is great .. even 2nd gen moto g has same processor.. Camera is decent (Noise in picture is high in dim lit conditions).. Xperia ui is best.. Simple and minimalistic .And about display , resolution is less but it doesn't matter due to 4.5" screen and IPS dislplay.. Gives you juice of 2-3 days on single charge, :good: :highfive:
Awesome! That settles it looks like im getting this after all Been in need of an update for a long time. My sensation is finally starting to fail me so cant wait xD.
Thanks again for answering my questions.
