Hi guys,
Im new to this forum and im going to buy my first android mobile. Im thinking to go for xperia j. I've gone through all the specs of this but still im slightly doubtful if this will get lagged after upgrading to JB.
My usage is
Hardcore gamer in pc but not in mobile. Will play in mobile bit rarely.
Heavy browsing and social networking.
App lover.... will install lots of apps.
not a big fan of mobile video recording.
Clicks pictures occasionally.
Does a lot of IM.
So now somebody pleaase tell me if i can go for xperia j. If not, what alternatives do i have.
android 4.1 will bring performance improvements like project butter = Vsync tripple buffering & intuitive touch. the internel memory is only 2gb. & app data partition is 750mb i think but there are ways around that to install more if needed. all other alternative devices like u & sola wont be updated to 4.1 jelly bean. i my self came from xperia ray i find xperia j better. with a few tweak scripts and things its alot faster than when i first got it. hope this clarifies things for you.

thanks gavster26. but updating to JB, will it not take more memory because of the new added features like Now, offline voice search etc....???
Yes u can go for it and new update will not take space !! U can also check lg l9 it not much pricey !

No mafter buddy if it will be jelly bean
My friends have problems with this mobile
Also it is of around 300$ still not capable of playing 720p videos
Also it has 480*854 resolution but it has andreno 200 which is quite outdated for this price
Better go for xperia u(no sd card support), xperia go, xperia sola
Samsung galaxy ace 2 these are far better for same price perform 3 times faster than xperia j:victory:

im not much concerned about 720p videos....thats ok for me.....
i do some serious multi tasking.... n i dont wanna get any lag while i do...this is my major concern..
More cores don't mean better performance my girlfriend has a xperia u and it lags and the screen redrawing is rediculase. I game a lot on my j and the only game it struggled is GTA my Xperia ray did aswell untill I overclocked it to 1.2ghz and then it was fine.
im using this J almost 2 month..
nothing goes wrong so far

and its cheap
if you want to stay in stock firmware , locked , just use V6 Super Charger make ur J peform better
based 512MB ram , 1GHz single core , i say its not for gaming , but i play a lot game on it LOL
i use EPSX there, lil bit lag only , some HD game , lil bit delay too , but low game , working fine..
if u decided to to unlock bootloader
theres is a Kernel ICS Vengeance overclocked it to 1.3GHz , its fine ofc *main problem cant use the CWM backup/restore*
if you want to use ClockworkMod working 100% just find "adfad666" thread
and CyanogenMod 10.0 jLo fxp 205 so far , its stable for now with sub lil bugs left , just wait till we get full fixed CM 10.0 , and J ready to rock
so far i think J its a cheap but valuable devices to learn new things *since im new on android , still got a lot to learn*
and J its not build to be extreme gaming device imo.
I think yes, this phone is cheap and it does have what you need..
Its around $210 in my country..
And this will be update to JB

its not the internal memory im worried about....im worried aboout the RAM. if its get updated to jb.... what then? will it consume more ram leaving me few mb?

I have xperia tipo, galaxy s2
And my friends have xperia go, sola and ace 2 these are best in this price
And u can search a bit at xda u will find xperia j is lagging for some people
And if u are a gamer than u must know the performance difference between single and dual core CPU
Also if u don't care about 720p videos but if u are getting 720p video playback than there should be no problem..
U can compare the review at gsmarena.com of xperia j ,go , sola and galaxy ace2 u will find yourself... The difference:good:
U want multitasking the Mobiles I suggested u above give u better.. Than xperia j
And also galaxy ace 2 has 768mb ram and is also upgradable to jellybean...

I'm just scarred that I might end up with a defective one too,sure I can change the os,but if the problem is hardware,then what?!
Also,the big problem is that there isn't a big error,like the phone not starting up,so if I take it to be repaired with the warranty,what am I gonna say? Hey,the phone lags in games,that's the problem?!

then dont get a j. games like gta maxpayne and so on are not ment for a 1ghz processors. you can always get a 2011 flag ship for the same money but thats 2 year old hardware. its like the old saying goes you get what you pay for. the j's rival galaxy ace 2 even though its a duo core its only a 800mhz processor same as xperia miro. i my self love my j its a good little phone in my opinion.
No, go for Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo, Xperia Pro. There is better out there for same price.
And these are not faulty models. Everything is working ok in every model. Only phones above cost the same and are better (processor, games, screen).
Don't worry about defective phones as they are not.

if u got low money , J its suitable for u , since x acro s are expensive , and un-removable battery
J got long live battery .. and moveable
J maybe have singel core , but remember more core , more battery use ,
some xperia have dual core , but when i visit their forum , a lot of them want to "off" the other core , and they still on GB.
J got an offcial update to JB at the end of march 2013..
if u have more money , Sammy S3 mini , HTC sensation XE its not a bad choice imo.
My gf using xperia j.. XJ is a good phone, but not for gaming.. its suitable for you if you need a phone only for entertain media and messeging.

I've bought this telephone and i love it! It's very cool, but with stock ICS it sometimes lag... with cm10 i haven't more lags and i can overclock my CPU... it's a very good phone!

Go for Xperia go, u, sola or galaxy ace (though it had 800mhz processor it is twice fast than j)
Don't go with arc s, neo etc they are worse than XJ....:laugh:

It is due to low specs of j
As u see only andreno 200 which is quite weak for it...

Even the phones like SGS II, SGS 3 can be lag, both in daily work and games, so don't write with a weak GPU that is in the XJ because it is not normal adreno200 but it's significantly improved. Just go to my channel on YouTube and look at yourself as advanced 3D games work on SXJ

Comparing them I've found:
J pro: bigger display. microsd slot, JB, battery life (?)
J cons: lower ppi, very old and slow cpu
U pro: higher ppi, very decent dual core v7 cpu, more compact
U cons: smaller screen, no microsd slot, stuck at ICS, battery life (?)
What would yu suggest?

battery life in the j is amazing ,the jb update has fixed any lag on the software,screen is a great size ,overclock the cpu to 1.3ghz and all perfomance problems are gone .GET THE J!

Thanks, but for about the same price I could also find a galaxy ace plus, do you have an idea whether is J faster or Aceplus can beat J due to lower resolution?

the ace 2 has more ram and a duo core. but samsungs build quality is not as good as sonys there more fragile. and the screen is better on the j. on jb i would recommend it to anyone. just make sure you buy a sim free one (not branded to a network) so you can unlock the bootloader

In fact, you cant possibly consider the ace plus. Samsung devices are poor, and this one is no exception. Avoid them at all costs.

U has better hardware, and with a nice custom JB rom it will beat the crap out of J, Jelly Bean or not.

But battery life of U is worse...
U has the worst, most low performing dualcore CPU + chipset on it.Wait till the end of march, when the Xperia P will get Jellybean, and because they share the same hardware with the U, the U might get the JB update ported.Wait it out.U is still most definitely better than J.
it must just be my U that lags like hell i have both hand sets it really is not much better than J and it will be close to the same as J still with jb may be worse without official jb no custom jb is as stable as stock thats my xperiance with 4 different devices any way.

The u even tho its a low grade duo core the device still has to power 2 cpu's so a single core has better battery life.
Xperia u has mali 400 gpu same as the galaxy s2 which can play all the heavy duty games easily xperia u is far more better than xperia j and ace plus in hardware

I was just wondering if any Sony Xperia J users could share the experience they have had with the phone and could recommend if the phone is worth $179. Does anyone know if Xperia J can flash Liquid Smooth?

Hello! Sony Xperia J is very good phone for Sony's Mid-Range. Ice Cream Sandwich(4.0) android is very buggy on this phone, home screen and app drawer lag on scrolling. On Jelly Bean(4.1) Xperia J works smoother, no screens lag, no drawer lag. This device is definitely not for games. If you buy thiis phone for Social Networks and Multimedia buy this phone, if you buy this phone for gaming Xperia J is definitely bad phone for you. Good Luck!

It's a low range phone with a mid range screen....
512MB RAM but Stock ROM reserves RAM for itself.so you only got ~390 MB RAM
You can say: 4.0 apps runs on 4.1 (xperia home,boot animation,lock screen...)

otherwise,you will need to wait for 5 mins,in that 5 mins,you shouldn't start the apps "Walkman",
you will get a "No Music" and all playlist will gone
you can call the Walkman apps as a lite version

1. Why compare mate? Before buying a phone,you seriously should have checked up responses and reviews.
2. Have patience. There are many devices,who have sluggish performance. But there are also devs.We still have to wait for @joebonrichie to make 3.4 kernel for our device,which FXP did not.
3. Wait for devs to come up with 4.4,I'm sure that will not disappoint you.
4. You just have to agree that it is not a gaming phone,by using CM10,I sure have no lag at the ui.
Although game lag is present.
5. If you wanted a gaming phone,you should have had to pay higher.
6. Request a few developers to make blind builds of roms else. They might help.
7. Have you tried Pure performances+Greenify+Seeder?
- Xperia E user.
EDIT: 8. Don't compare an Android to Windows.

I agree there is no comparison between Windows OS and Android but what I am trying to say is at the same price what Nokia gives is a lot more than Sony in hardware wise I mean just look at the processor and GPU ! Adreno 305 ! Sony looks so conservative people and of course my next device will never be Sony and not even an Android yes ! I would better use iOS devices or Windows because Android itself causes lags though there is ample amount of clockspeed and RAM. >.< LOL

I know that Android 4.4 KitKat is configured to work like butterly smooth even in the 512 MB RAM config. but the GPU of our device is Adreno 200 and I don't think so that this much old GPU can handle this much smoothness and the best part in this whole scene is the development of 4.4 ROMs for our devices which will probably be under action when our phones will be at the age of retirement !
Alright a bad-joke ! I mean so few developers are developing our ROMs and Kernels and last but not the least we should not beg for ROMs from the developers and stop abusing our phones by not giving overload which shortens the life of phones.

Look at the number of Cm10.x roms available for them.
Devs have to take it seriously.
Yeah, the 520's hardware's a lot better than ours, but I got the E because I wanted Android - it's much more open (by default) than Windows is.

Yes, You are right because I see LG Optimus L5 like low config. phone having variety of available ROMs higher than CM 10 i.e CM 10.2 and maybe CM 11 is under development. :3 and when I searched for XE I got Babaji Ka Thullu.

Yes dude. I did it for the same just because I wanted to taste some Android and I think it was my mistake to choose XE.
Hehe I am waiting for the future releases of Nokia and will get a Nokia and if Microsoft messes up Nokia the only option left for me is probably then Apple iPhones. or jolla phones with sailfish OS which is in the starting stage so not so mature but still I love it because it is funded by Nokia and run by ex-employees of Nokia who left the company after Windows came into Nokia.
My point of this post is Sony is such a conservative company which made phone in so low cost and selling with higher profit margin and Sony also doesn't provide any major software updates for such budget phones and as a result most of the people who suffers under major lags in System UI chooses to unlock bootloader and tries CyanogenMod ROMs at their own risks.

Possible? Certainly. They can get Jelly Bean on the HTC G1 (first Android phone, for those who don't know), MIUI on our phones would be relatively much easier.

Lumia 520 is nothing more than trash compared to Xperia SP or V so don't mock Sony, Are You Poor? Why did you get Xperia E and not those better Phones Sony has to offer. Xperia E is a budget phone don't expect a phone that cheap to be good for gaming and such
If you don't want it then don't buy it, sheesh there are many other android phones that are better and stronger for those with money

Don't trash on him, man! He just makes the point that the Lumia 520 has better hardware than the E for the same price. I agree with you, this phone wasn't meant for gaming. But he just compares!

If you're still low on cash, I would indeed suggest him to not buy a Nexus 4.

You can find some really nice, already-used(mint condition most of the time!) devices, plus it's very save.
You pay, you get your phone. Done.
Just want to recommend this, because even the Nexus 4 is getting old. And the Nexus 5(although cheaper than other high-end phones), is still not cheap .
Swappa is also supported by XDA. Not trying to advertise, just giving a tip.

Im using xperia z but since my xz has one dead pixel...i decide to sell it rather to repair it...and im on budget...so i really into xperia e3 now...(i buy my xz from other country...means if i want to get my phone repaired under warranty, i must go back to the country...im in malaysia and the phone is singapore)
This is one silly question...but i know this phone is mid-range phone but...can it play game Injustice?

I haven't tried playing injustice on this phone. But I remember it worked smoothly on my previous phone which has 768 ram and 1ghz dual core.So I think it will be buttery smooth on this phone also

Yes every game is lag free.. I tried many games and played for very long time ... I have tested it with Need for speed most wanted 2012, wwe immortals , real steel the are just awesome and lag free .. nfs is 4gb game though it is lag free .... it is a best phone one can get in this range.

I played asphalt 8 at high settings lag free injustice lag free max payne lag free raptide gp1&2 lag free. I never seen any game lagged on sony Xperia e3

Hi all,
Finally, i goty xperia e3!...here's my tough about it:
- Simple design, beauty display (for it class)
- Superb-batt (i heard sony claims that the batt is similar to z3 batt performance -via google)
- Confortable in hand/grab...
- 1st i see a 1 tiny little dead/stuck pixel but after run a dead/stuck pixel app i download via google play, and run a night, it dissapears...thank God...it drive me crazy to see my another xperia got dead/stuck pixel...
- Guess what, i got a free gift from sony...a sony xperia t-shirt!

Yes, rooted and moved all apps to sd then i installed injustice from playstore you can use obb on sd or xinternal sd to move data to external sd.

guys, anybody tell me any game that lag on this device,
i can,t understand why people buy phones like z3 if games won,t even lag on e3 they can save too much money by buying e3 instead of z3. i,ve played many high_end games on max setting they run amazingly smooth.

I know they are better but 2.5ghz for what.
what you gonna do with a phone which have Quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 processor and Adreno 330.
is there any app which uses that much power.
also even powerfull pc,s are called gaming pc cuz power are mostly used in gaming.
(also can be used for video editing on pc and many thing,s)
