Best way to do this is Titanium Backup: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
Make sure you go into the settings and store the backup in your external SD card and not your internal storage. Once you flash CWM and custom roms, just reinstall titanium backup, select where you backed your apps to on your SD card, and just restore them when you need to use them.

So you gurus think that I can do a nandroid restore on a a replacement epic if I installed the same rom and kernel in it?
This way I dont have to go re-arranging my apps and all the customizing....
has anyone done it?
i havent done it, but my understanding is that should be fine. you wont even have to install the ROM since the nandroid backup/restore contains all of this. just install clockwork, throw the nandroid backup files in the correct dir on your SD and you should be good to go. someone might want to correct me if there is anything phone/hardware specific in a nandroid backup that could cause a problem
I've done it on both my heros and a CDMA desire - youll be fine.
yes this is definitely possible.
when you make a nandroid backup its saved onto your sd card in the "clockwork" folder.
if you have to turn in your sd card with your phone - idk if they make you or not ive never had to return a phone - you can easily move the folder to your computer and then put it on the new sd card.
PS: i see you want to switch to an evo - definitely dont restore anything from your epic sd card if you get an evo. thought id warn you just in case but you probably know that -
The only thing that's gonna **** up after restoring data is that the apps you have previously stored willed eat up the cache n memory this great dev has uninstalled. I need my apps n flashed my data, n it definitely slowed my cpu. But havin my tweaks back is all worth it!
I don't think you should. I'm pretty sure for EVOs nandroid backs up your wimax data too and if you restore you will restore your old keys onto your new phone. Idk if its the same for Epics and I'm not even sure that I'm right. Check with somebody who really knows. Just a warning.
I have already tweaked this rom/kernel to my liking and am scoring 950 on quadrant...... but **** it! This ROM is def. Quicker n snappier than the rest! My bottom line..... **** quadrant n linpack! My phone is much better without the high scores! This rom/kernel is great!
Would you guys please tell me where I can get Nandroid. I hear it all the time but idk what it is.

In clockwork recovery
After installing a custom ROM, I discovered I should have repartitioned my internal sd card, and fix permissions.
So, I carefully backed-up my data and started the process.
Everything was going as expected. Right up to rebooting the system. BEFORE REBOOTING THE SYSTEM RESTORE THE DATA. I didn't, and lost everything.
This is the best website I've found for newbie like me. Use it, study it, and don't make the mistake I made.

Have fun and be careful out there.

Or use a program like Titanium Backup to back your data up onto an external SD card rather than the internal one?
Or am I missing something here?
Titanim can save your apps and data but not what you have saved on your SD. With a repartition it is a clean wipe of your SD so all is lost, even the backup you have made through cwm that you might have forgotten to move to your PC pre format. Keep a nand backup on your PC at all times, I do a weakly backup and toss it on my PC. That way if I have a bad flash and need to repartition I'm not loosing much. Also I have a starting point other than a stock rom to work with after a full restore.luck favors the prepared ;-)

I wanted to switch to a ROM with a 1.2 Bootloader, but I was weary of all the steps involved. I went to this site, and he saved me a lot of time. After fighting to get my tablet to connect to my PC, it only took a few minutes to get to 1.2BL with a new ClockWorkMod version.
So I flashed clockwork mod and It worked it was easy as pie. I was able to boot into recovery but I cant get it to do anything. Now I did not ttry to flash anything I just wanted to see how it worked but when I boot it comes up I am able to navigate throught the menu with vol up\down but When I tried to power off or reboot the phone it would not let me select anything. I was using the power button to select but all it did was go to a different screen with a top hat so did I do it wrong? Should I try to do it again How would I get rid of it and start over?
Also The main reason I did this is to flash the stock froyo camera app which I downloaded to my pc. When I move it to my External sd card should I unzipp it first or just put the zipped file on my sd card? Any help would be helpful.
Edit I got CWM working I had to pull the battery and after the reboot I tried again and it worked so I made a backup. When it was doimg the backup it Said no sd-ext found skipping sd-ext backup Is that the external sd card I have in the phone if so it was in but thats not a big deal ass long as it backed up the internal sd. When I flashed cwm i did the external so I am assuming that it stored the backup on the external and that is where I should put the camera file and xboarders rom and anything else I want to flash right? Sorry for all the questions I want to understand everything that I do because I am nosey.
Charlie
You are correct. Sd-ext is skipped when making backups. Just download the rom you are interested in and boot into recovery. The rom you download should be found in the download folder on your ext sd card. In recovery click on install zip. Install the rom. Fix permissions and you should be good to go. I always do a factory reset after loading a new rom.
Okay thank you I really appreciate your help. I already downloaded the xboarders stock rom and the 1.5 ver of the stock froyo camera to my computer. So can I just make a folder on my external sd card called ROMS and move them to that folder from my PC? Then when I boot into CWM I go to install zip and that is it. I dont know if I am going to install a rom yet but I do want to try the camera. If it doesnt let me install the camera without root then I will install the xboarder rom. Again thank you for your help.
By the way I cant believe how easy this is to do I love this website and everyone on it.
I have not tried the camera yet. There are some issues still. I tried xboarders rom for a while but switched to eaglesblood 2.3.3. Great battery life. A must for me. Its not as pretty as some roms but does what I need.
I have high hopes flacko and crew get the camera 100%
Once you flash couple of times you will wonder why you did not try sooner. Be sure to use titanium backup. Use the batch method to copy your user apps only. Be sure to change the backup location to ext sd.
I heard that eaglesblood was really good I was going to try that one as well but I would like to keep stock gb. I actually use launcher pro and I love the way it works and looks because I like that the home screen can switch between lanscape and portrait and I like the app dock at the bottom. I know that the front camera is choppy but I think that is the only real major issue which I could live with because I used the front camera like 3 times. Do you think I should wait? I did donate to the project because I really apriciate theire hard work. everyone who want the camera should.
Also is titanium just to backup my apps and data? I have mybackup pro is that okay? When I did the backup with CWM did that only backup my ROM? What is the difference? I am sorry for all the questions but as I have already stated before I like to completly understand what I am doing.
CWM backs up everything. It is perfect for backing up the entire rom. It is an exact copy of the rom. That way you can play around and try things out. If things go badly or you do not like other roms you can always restore the CWM backup and you are back where you started.
Titanium is nice because you can back up all your user apps to the ext sd card, load a new rom and then restore your apps. It's great for games like Angry Bird or Paradise Island. It also saves bandwidth because you do not have to re-download all your apps. You just restore them from the ext sd card. It works very well.
As far as the camra issue, i am waiting till it is 100%. I am getting by with the GB camera for now.
The EB rom looks very similar to stock, because it is based on the stock upgrade. Just faster with better battery life. I really like it. You can use any launcher you like with it.
Okay that is what I thought. The only reason I don't have titanium is because if I remember corectly ylu have to be rooted to use it and until now I did not think I waz going to root. That is why I bought my backup pro you don't need root. I recently did a factory reset and used it to restore everything it worked perfectly. I am starting to catch on. But I would be lost without people like you and the rest of this fourm and phandroid.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Flashed the Stock LG camera!!!!!!!!!
I Just wanted to let you know that I flashed the camera without root I am still on stock GB. It works f******* Great!!!!!!! I gotta give it to those guys. They are a bunch of bright people there. I recommennd everyone donate to them they deserve it. I am thinking of starting a post to let everyone know how good the camera is. Just thought I would let you know.

using titanium or do full NAND backup.
if backup, just restore it.
hope it' help a bit.
maybe u should wait answer from advanced user for more detail
Restore from backup or Download all again.
I tried to flash 2.3.5 to my galaxy s 4g and it was a bad rom so I tried to put it back the stock+root ROM using ODIN. Now whenever I turn my phone on it just keeps rebootiing I have been trying to get it fixed but whatever I do it just seems to keep rebooting. Sorry if there is a fix and I didnt see it but its late and im very stressed now that my phone isnt working.....
What do you mean you flashed a bad ROM? Can you be more specific?
Try doing a battery pull and reflashing it in Odin.
yea, just follow the NOOBS GUIDE TO ODIN in the BIBLE. from there, you should be fine. instead of using KB5, i would recommend using Raver's KC1 (search for it). that will give you a fresh start.
Sorry I was really tired and stressed out last night but I got it to work finally. I just put 2.3.4 on it and it worked right away. I do have another question though. This is the first time I have ever actually flashed a ROM on my phone. Is there a way to get all the apps back that were on my SD card or do I have to re-download all of them? Also if I have to re-download all the apps is there a way I can get my saves back for the game?

I maybe be wrong. But your apps are saved on your phone. some off the data from these apps might be saved on your sd card, and some may not. In the future, prior to flashing a rom, in stall a program called titanium backup from the market. It will backup all your apps and data in one click to your sd card. then once u flash a new rom install TB first and restore those apps. they will all have there log ins, games will be where u left them, ect.
But for now, yes u have to use the market to restore the apps one by one.

I figured I would. I will see if I can look through the files and get any save files. Is it ok to re-format my SD card after saving every thing i need? Just so I can start off fresh?
you can back everything up by making a nandroid backup.
go into cwm, backup and restore and select backup. then when you want to restore after flashing a rom, go to backup and restore, then go to advanced and then restore data. that should do it

This is only to help me before I flash right? I'm kinda screwed as of right now and have to start from scratch. No big deal to me really just means I lost all my saved games. Is it ok to re-format my SD card right now?
if you reformat, you will lose everything on the sd...so its up to you. after you've flashed the rom, you can take it out and reformat and the rom will run fine, if that is what you mean.
