Tecno Phantom A3 is the new phablet released to the Nigerian Market by Tecno. It is a well specced Chinese android phone. Having acquired this phone, I noticed a lack of basic mods to the phone, so I went about helping myself. Following are the results of my research.
1. Rooting
Please use cydia impactor http://www.cydiaimpactor.com/ to root the phone. It is easy and quick. After using cydia impactor, complete the routing with CF SuperSu. This is available in the play market.
2. CWM Recovery
You need a rooted phone to install this recovery.
After rooting, install mtk mobileuncle from the play market, then use it to update your recovery using the attached recovery image.
3. One major problem I noted earlier on with the phone is the small application memory. If you install many apps like me, your phone will soon telling you of low application memory. The solution below should banish that completely.
After these 3 mods you can really enjoy this great phone.
If I have helped you, don't post a thank you, just press the thanks button.
Follow up on Tecno M9
Dear Abbas,
I would also like to suggest [ROOT] Framaroot, a one-click apk to root some devices
Check it out on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276 and after installing the apk, choose the 3rd option.
After a restart the phone will automatically download SuperSU from the playstore.
Please advise method of fixing the small application memory.
Thanks

Out of 16 GB tecno has forced us to use 1GB only for apps, unfortuanetly there is no way to increase this partition but you can transfer apps to sd card instead, for some apps that are not allowed to be sent to sd by default, you can use tinanium backup (free on play store) for ROOTED devices, with this you can force them to stuff into sd card it wont transfer the entire app, but will transfer upto 60-95% of the app's space to sd card. Enjoy :laugh:, hit thanks if it helped

You mean the memory low solution? Yes, it is applicable to most of the android phones, including samsung, Sony, micromax, almost anything running jelly bean
If u mean the vroot?
I'm not sure if of compatibility but you can give it a shot, if it's not compatible, it won't let u root it, so you stand harmless.
Any where to get compatible ROM for this Tecno Phantom A3?
Also how would I update recovery image with the one posted earlier?
After installing adb driver for Tecno A3, I saw the attached picture. Does it mean A3 is much like HTC?
Now that I have install Custom Recovery with Easy Magic Recovery tool, I need any compatible ROM.
For information Tecno Phantom A3 is a MT-6589 device.
Memory low issue
Can anyone please explain more in detail about how to use the .img file?
Has anyone tried it? it works?

Hello, Are there any Android Kitkat Roms available for the Phantom A3?. I really need it thanks.
A more detailed Solution
Here's a much more comprehensive and detailed solution to solving the problem.
There is absolutely no way you can increase the size of your phone’s internal storage but you can allocate some part of your memory card for your phone to install applications to.
What you will need
Steps to increasing your android internal memory
Step 1: Backing up your memory card:
before attempting this, make sure you have backed up all the files and folders on your memory card to your computer by easily coping the whole memory card and pasting into a folder on your computer.
Step 2: Partitioning your memory card:
connect your memory card to your computer using a memory card reader (dont use a phone and USB cable) and take note of the letter assigned to it by your computer on my computer page example (F, (D etc .
Open the installed MiniTool on your computer.
Right click on your memory card letter (example D:, F and click delete.
Now you will see the memory card showing unallocated space, right click on it again and select create as.
Select primary
If your memory card size is less than 2GB, select file system FAT. If it’s more than 2GB, select FAT32.
Now go down and reduce the size of your memory card on partition size so that there will be space on unallocated space (that will be your added memory, so you can choose any size you want)
Now, choose the unallocated space again and select Create as -> Primary
Now, choose EXT2 file system. You can let the whole space take over in this step.
Now click ok and click apply on the top menu.
Wait for it to finish and you have successfully partitioned your memory card.
copy your data backed up on your computer back to the memory card and insert it into your phone and boot it
Step 3: Configuring Link2SD:
Now open Link2SD which you have downloaded from Google play store on your phone
Link2SD will ask you to select the file system of your second permission, choose ext2.
Now click okay, the phone will ask to get restarted, click oka so it will restart itself.
A dialogue box will come up after the restart click okay
Now their is a funnel-like icon on the top part click it you will see different options choose on internal (see picture below)
Link2SD
Now tap the option key below, and select multi-select, then press the select all button. All of these apps will be selected.
Now still on the option key choose action then click create link
Select the three options (link application file, link dalvic-cache file,link library files) then click ok
Link2SD will then move all those apps and games then create a link with them from the second partition of your SD card. Touch OK when done
Now you are done but to make sure this happens every single time you install an app you should goto settings from the menu and click on auto link and then select the three options again and ok….thats done
You have now free of the low memory issue with your phone.
Note: DO NOT convert core apps like android system, messeging, google play, gmail, camera, phone etc to user apps, Convert only those apps which also can be downloaded from google play, like Skype, Viber, Facebook, Twitter, talk , maps , Sound recorder and others.

But i will try to include a new version to my rom.

Plz help in installing the rom
I followed the instruction you have mention but still I am not able to install the rom in my Micromax A60
THe following are the steps I have done:
1. installed the Partition Wizard and Created two partition one of (512 Mb) as Ext3 and rest of Sd card Memory of Fat32 .
2. Downloaded the rom's zip file("cybrom.zip") and copied into root of Sd card. Since in recovery mode only update.zip is used, I renamed your file as "update.zip"(not sure abt this step, was just try and error method from me)
3. restarted phone in recovery and selected Wipe data and Factory Reset.
4. Then selected "apply sdcard:update.zip" and it gives following error:
E: signature verification failed.
Installation aborted.
E: Can't find MISC:
Please help me in installing the rom.
Thank in advance.

I think you are using stock recovery.
You can get custom recovery from here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013698

Thank s ameshalex and svprm,
I had successfully replaced the rom but seems few issues.
The icons,menus and the theme are much better than the default. You ppl are too good. From past 4 months I was searching for this and i got it now..
As stated the folowing are issues / questions.
1. the root explorer isn't working, its says force close.
2. I didnt see these features that u stated:
a. App2sd
b. Zip Align
c. BusyBox (What is this, and whats the use of it)
Yes it does not use apptosd directly
But it uses the ext3 par to store apps like link2sd
But it does so without link2sd app.

Zipalign to Optimize the apks.
App2sd- Installing apps will install on sd card.
BusyBox Some important application need Busybox like Titanium Backup.
@salsreloded
In link2sd,you have to link each file.
But it not necessary in app2sd.

and one more thing which i would not call a bug but still wanna inform you that while setting alarm when we type the time we have a "+" and a "-" button there up and down respectively, but there the "+" "plus" sign is looking a bit untidy as from original.
there's no problem regarding that, but still thought to inform you.
and is the wallpaper included in the screenshot also there somewhere in package, because i was unable to find that wallpaper.
BTW that shutting down and starting up image is stupendous!!!!

Problem 1:
~~~~~~
Feature 1:[ App2sd - No more "Not enough space on phone"] fails..
When I tried to install a app, the installation was failed with Error: "Insufficient internal Storage". YOur feature fails.. I dont know how u said it support.
More over I used to have more apps than I have after installing your ROM but still it used to allow me to install.
The following were the apps That I used to have on original Stock(apart from what given by micromax by default):
1. Barcode Scanner
2. FriendCaster[for Facebook]
3. Nimbuzz
4. Angry bird.
5. MyMusicOn
6. Adobe PDF reader
7. talking tom
8. Talking baby
9. Toss it
10. CNN app
11. handcent SMS
12. Shake Flashlight
13. Zoner Antivirus
14. Wifi Keep Alive
And Following are the apps that I have now after installing your ROM[apart from what was stocked with ur ROM]:
1. Barcode Scanner
2. FriendCaster for Facebook
3. IMO[1.73kb] (which is much smaller in size than NImbuzz which is around 12-14mb)
4. google +
5. talking tom
6. Talking baby
7. Toss it
8. Shake Flashlight
9. Zoner Antivirus
10. Wifi Keep Alive
Even after not having the following apps why it says "Insufficient Memory"
(a) Angry bird [18mb];(b) MyMusicOn [488kb]; (c) Adobe PDF reader;(d) CNN app;(e)handcent SMS and using IMO instead of NImbuzz, which is much much smaller in size than Nimbuzz
ALso be clear is it app2sd or link2sd, as link2sd is much different than app2sd.. and whats use of creating a separate ext3 partition on SDCard when none works.
Problem 2:
~~~~~~
Frequenly it gives notification that "sdcard is removed" and tries to mount it back again.. Why this happens?
If i like to restore my phone to Micromax's default stock and recovery, how can I do that.As After a week of struggle with memory issues and instability, I am planning to use old stock which is I assuming is better thn the ROM here(atleast in space if not in UI and theme)

Notepad++
Drivers
MTKDroidTools
SP Flash Tool v3.1312.0.139
17/05/2013 Official Stock ROM
Installing Drivers
Preloader
We will start with the Preloader driver, which is the trouble one.
First of all, shutdown the Phone.
Go to the Start Menu, right click in the Computer, and click Manage. Then go to the Device Manager.
Now you need to be quick! Connect the Phone to the computer via USB cable, and when appears MT65xx Preloader as unknown driver, right click in the device, Update Device, select the second option, select the folder mt65xx+preloader+drive that you downloaded and check the Include Subfolders option. Now let it install. Once installed, it will disappear, that's the reason that I said to be quick. The Preloader disconnects when the device is not in use and goes to charging mode.
Now you can turn on the device.
ADB Driver
This is the easy one. Connect the phone in debugging mode, and in the Device Manager it will appear another driver to install.
This time you only need to select the MTK_USB_ Driver folder and it will install!
How to ROOT
Download the MTKDroidTools which is in the Essential tools section, create a folder and extract the files.
If the drivers are installed and the device is in debugging mode, it will appear a green block at bottom left side like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Go to root, backup, recovery section, then click on SuperUser option. Click on YES to every option that will show up. You can select SuperSU app or the SuperUser app. I selected the SuperSU. Now click on Reboot at bottom right corner
Now you have your device rooted!
How to remove China Apps
In the same section as in the ROOT tutorial, you this time click in Delete china.
How to change the screen's DPI
Preparing the scenary
This gives a better look to the screen and it will look like Galaxy S4.
I changed the DPI because of the 240 DPI to 480x854 screen is so huge that hurts my eyes, and I have so small space to the apps!
We will prepare the work to you don't manually edit anymore the build.prop file, just this time.
So, lets begin. You need ROOT to do this!
Open the Root Explorer, go to the system folder, keep the finger at the build.prop file and select Copy.
Now go back to the root (/), go to the sdcard folder and select Paste.
Now connect the phone to the Computer and enable the USB file transfer.
Go to the phone internal memory by your Computer, and edit the build.prop file with Notepad++ to preserve the Unix Style of the text. Go to the end and add the following line:
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
Save the file. We have set the DPI to 240, but we will change it later in an easier way.
Now let's put the file back to the phone.
Go to Root Explorer and go to the /sdcard directory. Now press the build.prop file and click the Move option. Go back to root, go to the system folder, click in Mount R/W and click in Paste. Overwrite the file.
Changing the DPI
Now we can do the trick with the MTKDroidTools.
Go to MtkDroidTools folder, and edit the build_prop_replace.txt file.
It must have this code inside:
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
You can change to a DPI between the 120 and 320 I think. Higher the DPI, higher the icons, less space for them.
You can calculate here the right DPI for your screen:
http://pxcalc.com/
Insert the data just like I did:
Seems like the right DPI to the screen is 195 DPI.
You can test this inserting the 1080x1920 resolution with 5 inch. If it gives us 440 DPI, that is the correct DPI from Galaxy S4 specs from GSMArena.
Now change the 240 value to 195:
Save the file and go to MTKDroidTools.
Go to the root, backup, recovery section and click in build.prop option.
Then click Reboot to reboot the device.
Compare here the difference between 240 DPI (left) and 195 DPI (right) screen:
Now when you want to change DPI you only need to do this steps.
How to install CWM
To install CWM on the phone, open the MTKDroidTools and go to the root, backup, recovery section.
Click on To use boot from phone and click the Recovery and Boot button.
Now click Yes to every option.
Now you can access to CWM recovery by pressing Volume Up + Home + Power, and the Volume Down + Home + Power stock recovery is still working.
How to make a backup
To backup you whole ROM, open the MTKDroidTools and go to the root, backup, recovery section.
If you want to backup your personal data to a personal backup, check the Backup userdata and cache box (I don't think it is recoverable, it didn't worked for me).
If you want to create only a ROM only with ROOT, do not check any box.
Now click in Backup and wait a few minutes. If it asks to pack the ROM, click Yes.
Now click in To create updates for modified recovery and select the files.md5 file inside backup folder.
The backup is complete. It is in the backup folder, and works with SP Flash Tool and CWM.
How to flash with stock ROM
Be sure that you have CWM installed and the preloader drivers succefully installed!
Turn off your phone and start with CWM (Volume Up + Home + Power). Click in wipe data/factory reset and YES, the same for wipe cache partition and go to advanced. Now click in Wipe Dalvik Cache and do YES, the same for Wipe Battery State. Go back.
Open the SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1312.0.139 folder and open Flash_tool.exe.
Click on Scatter-loading button. Go to the 20130517_e2006_v89_jbla768_asx folder and select the MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt file. Be sure that you have all the options selected like in the print.
Now this is a very quick step! In the main CWM menu in the phone, click in reboot system now.
Now go to the Smart Phone Flash Tool window. When the Windows makes the hardware inserted sound, you must click in the Firmware -> Upgrade option. If you hear the sound of hardware disconnected before the tool does it job, you must restart your phone and do this again.
If the Flash tool flashed the cellphone successfully, it will auto boot as the first time.
This means that you did the trick!
This thread will be updated to add more tutorials as requested or if I need to add something.
I will notify with a comment to the thread.

Essential tools
Here is a list with download links for some indispensable tools:
Notepad++
Drivers
MTKDroidTools
SP Flash Tool v3.1312.0.139
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
This thread will be updated to add more tutorials as requested or if I need to add something.
I will notify with a comment to the thread.

Hi Ivan, I just wanted to thank you for the time you took to make this guide. You see, I'm from Argentina, and i bought this phone. It is excellent. The only problem I had, is that for example, I can use the phone all day without issues, but after a day or less, when i try to open an app, it just closes itself, and every app that i try to open does the same thing. The only thing that solves this is restarting the phone. Anyway, it isn't a big issue but it becomes a pain in the *** when you're trying to work. So after a few weeks, I reached the conclusion that it may be a problem with the stock ROM. In this post, you said that you were going to update the method to flash with the sotck rom, but you didn't. I wanted to know if you could help me with this, and to know if you had the same issue. Thanks for everything, and I'll be waiting for your answer

Hi JaxDrive, thank you for the opinion
I had some documentation to present in the school, so I didn't had time to do, but I will do in a few hours I think.
By the way, try to install this Launcher:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gau.go.launcherex
The stock Launcher had some bugs, and I think that would be because of the stock Launcher, so I've installed this, which it gives better look also!
RE
Oh, sorry then for my bad aproaching to the topic haha :fingers-crossed:. Anyways, it's good to know that someone has the same phone as I do (only that I have the white version), and knows about programing, to help this noob to sort this issues out :B. Anyway, I already changed the launcher, because the stock one was buggy and ugly, but mostly ugly :laugh:. I'm currently using the Nova Launcher, which is pretty and works wonderfull. Like I said, the only problem that the phone has, is the apps closing themselves issue, which now became pretty annoying . I though that as you posted the method to have CWM recovery on our phone, if I'm able to get in my hands the original ROM of our phone, I can flash it, and hopefully fix this problem. But work at your own speed, I'm sure you have other things to care about besides this. So thats it, if you could provide the next tutorials about our phone, I would be very gratefull. Also I saw in one of your previous posts that you succesfully overclocked our processor, that would be an interesting feature too

Dude, you're awesome . Many thanks for the tutorial and sorry for the time that I made you lose. I just found the link that you made for the ROM haha. I'm flashing it in a couple of minutes. I'll post some feedback when its done c:
Isnt a lost time! I said that I will support the phone and I will do as long as I can
About the overclock, I just need to learn to compile the kernel and sure that I will post for everyone!

Hey IvanSantosPT,
at first I want to thank you so much for for sharing your experiences and possibilities about that Phone! You cant find so much support for that phone at the hole web.
I bought my star s9500 at amazon and hope, that it will come quickly to my country. So, I allready started to download your content to be prepared for the arrival.
But I have one question: Is it really possible to set the screenresolution higher? ...up to 960p,like you write? or did I confound some details?
Greets from Germany!
Is there any way to root this phone. And if someone successfully rooted, tell me how.
Try this, but you have to translate - ww.forum.androidbg.com/showthread.php?tid=66827

Requiremets
a) HDD Raw Copy Tool, install or portable;
b) A copy of rooted firmware v01003 for Alcatel Idol 2 Mini 6016X (unpack the .rar to a desired location);
c) Appropriate device drivers for Alcatel OT Idol 2 Mini 6016X installed on you computer;
d) Smart Suite software (Windows Only) for Alcatel phones, a version that supports 6016x;
e) Battery charged to no less than 50%, 100% should be best.
f) Both USB Debugging and Unknown sources (in Settings → Security) enabled. USB Debugging is located in Settings → Developer Options. If there is no DevOps, openAbout Phone and tap Build number until a toast notification about Developer mode activated is shown.
*** Backup copy ***
Code:
This part of the guide makes a backup copy of the complete current state of the phone, or,
more precise, does exactly the same what Norton Ghost, Acronis and similar prorgrams that
blindly create copies of partitions/disks do. I STRONGLY recommed that you do this part
first and keep the resulting copy somewhere on your computer.
1. Turn off the phone and while pressing VOLUME DOWN, connect it to the computer via USB cable. That puts the phone into Download mode.
- Windows may install divers the first time. If the phone doesn-t register with Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media, repeat the process until it does.- The phone should be powered off, that's normal.- DO NOT INITIALIZE OR FORMAT NEW DISK, IT WILL DESTROY ALL DATA ON THE PHONE. If there is such a message, cancel it.
2. After the connection is complete, run HDD Raw Copy Tool (HRCT from now on).
3. 1st window, mark the source, in our case it is Qualcomm MMC Storage. Press Continue >>>

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
4. Next, choose the name and destination of the backup. Double click on File line, then navigate to a desired folder and enter a file name for the backup. Save, then Continue >>>
5. Last window gives overview of set options. If anything is nor right, close HRCT and redo the selections before clicking the START button.Program needs about 5 mins to complete the operation..
DO NOT OPERATE OR DISCONNECT THE PHONE UNTIL THE OPERATION IS COMPLETED.
6. When HRCT finishes, close it and check the location you chose to store the backup file. There should be a 1+ GB file of .img or .imgc type there.
7. Power on the phone by pressing the power button a while longer than usual (may be up to 10 seconds).
8. Using Smart Suite, do a backup of all the important data on the phone (phonebook, messages, calendar, pictures, etc.)
9. If neccessary, do a manual backup of important files using a file manager (eg. Windows Explorer).
*** Rooting ***
Code:
This part of the guide overwrites all of the data currently on the phone.
I STRONGLY recommend you first do the previous part of the guide.
The firmware version is 01003 and is originally in Russian language,
but that can be changed after the flashing. It is a debranded firmware,
but still has some Russian locale apps.
1. If not done already, make a backup of important data nad files using Smart Suite and a desktop file manager.
3. After the connection is complete, run HDD Raw Copy Tool (HRCT from now on). We'll do a reverse process than before: In the first window, open File with a double click, navigate to and choose the rooted firmware you downloaded and unpacked earlier. It should be a .imgc type of file.
Note that LBA and file size for the file and storage of the phone should be the same (7,634,944 and 3909,09 MB). Press Continue >>>
3. Next window, select the destination. For us, it's Qualcomm MMC Storage. Continue >>>
4. Last screen, as before, choices are listed. Check them before clicking START button and redo the choices if necessary. HTRC will ask for confirmation of the writing action, click on Yes.
DO NOT OPERATE OR DISCONNECT THE PHONE UNTIL THE OPERATION IS COMPLETED. It requires more than 10 minutes.
5. When HRCT finishes, close it.
6. Power on the phone by pressing the power button a while longer than usual (may be up to 10 seconds).
7. On first start up, there may be two messages shown, both in Russian language.
First one should be a PC authorization reqquest: ckeck the box and click on the right button.
Second is a notification that SuperSU binaries require an update. Choose Normal installation (non-CWM).
You should now have root privileges and SuperSU binaries installed. Check using any method you prefer (Root Checker app etc.)
8. You can now get backed up data from Smart Suite etc.

Of course it doesn't work, this is for 6016X. You must use a firmware for your phone.
I don't know how to manually root a firmware. Probably by hexediting of the FW image, but I have no knowledge of specifics.

6016x root
Following some instruction from here, and some from russian forum, i managed to get root access withot flasing complete backup from another phone (there could be problem with imei and some other stuff, as i read somewhere). I have mini 2, 6016x, ver 1002, Telenor SRB branded. I used VRoot_1.7.4.4996.rar which I found on PDA.ru. Upon starting program on PC, let it do update, and use google translate, cos interface of program is russian. When process is done I got the kinguser app and root access. Not so interested in custom rom, but titanium, root explorer, adaway, LP and greenify need root, so I am ok with kinguser (I was using supersu on previous phones), the job is done. Also, whatever you do, do not put gravitybox JB on this phone (1002 ver, don't know for other versions), cos you will end up in boot loop, as I did. So far so good, I am sattisfied satisfied with this phone.
Help
Easier way is to root it via VRoot.
It is on Russian, but you can translate it to english on Google Translate. Proces takes 5 minutes.

[Q] Is iRoot [previously vRoot] safe? This is my question as well.
Could you pls. take a look at my question: Viewing Internal Storage of [generic phone] as Mass Storage to recover deleted file? < Instert [generic phone] with Alcatel Idol 2 mini.
I'm not sure if I need root, I'm not an expert on this, all I want to achieve is, to have access to Internat Storage for Windows recovery software Recuva.
UPDATE:
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!
From the moment I bought this phone, I only had problems:
-Facebook always freezing/hanging/lagging when I'm talking to someone that is talking at the same time (had to revert to Android 4.4 to fix this).
-Battery could not handle the heat of the "waterproof" phone and eventually bloated, becoming so swollen that I had to buy a new one.
-Back cover's cheap plastic snapping bits eventually broke as well, had to replace the back cover and order a new one (and one snap broke again).
-Phone was never waterproof, tiny droplets of water could get in from the microphone whenever it was humid and the phone was useless when it happened
-"Shockproof" phone fell from a height of one meter while I was cycling and now the touchscreen is completely unresponsive, even in recovery... completely dead
-Supposedly solid touchscreen cracked real bad at 2 places after I inadvertently put my keys in the same pocket
-The fake plastic chrome in the back gets all scratched and chipped as it's the first thing that touches any surface.
-I suspect this phone of having corrupted and ruin 2 genuine sdcards that I had to replace. Thank you for SanDisk warranty!!
Now all I have is a very expensive clock with a screen that I can just turn on and off. Go look somewhere else than Doogee to buy a phone. I dropped my old LG-P500 from the third floor when I hung the sheets while my phone was in there, dropped a cheap Mediatek Cubot down the stairs and both worked perfectly after. But a stupid shockproof phone can't survive a one meter fall
IF YOU ALREADY HAVE THIS PHONE
Best way to use it is to revert back to Kit Kat. Believe us (Several XDA members and me), Android 5.0, even with the backport fixes is unresponsive, slow and sluggish.
tvladan made a guide for the best way to repartition + root + custom recovery + xposed your phone on post #239:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63260626&postcount=239
OLD POST:
This thread is a work in progress for the DG700 to get better partitions, root access, a custom recovery, the Xposed framework and fix memory leaks.
We are still improving it, here's what we have so far:
4GB internal storage partition --> OK
6GB internal storage partition --> IN PROGRESS
Root access with Kingroot --> OK
Root access with Super SU --> OK
Custom Recovery --> OK
Xposed framework --> OK
Custom ROM with black theme --> IN PROGRESS
Credits:
All this has been made possible by the common efforts of XDA members tvladan, Nudeldampf, Pepo1980, mikaelbrostrom, lunito.
ROM was made by Yalita35254
Recovery was ported from yuweng's TWRP by Hanuma50
Xposed framework was developped by rovo89
The bootanimation memory leak was fixed by arter97
The ColorFade memory leak was fixed by tonyp
Make sure to click "thanks" to these awesome people if you see their posts!
Disclaimer:
Of course, none of the listed people and me are responsible if you break your device completely. However, during the test phase I have flashed well over 80 times total and many times thought I killed my phone definitely, but it was always ok. Flashing is so easy nowadays, and you can pretty much always recover from any mistake by reflashing everything. If your phone is not detected anymore by the flashing software, unplug the phone, remove its battery and wait a few seconds before retrying.
Guide:
Step 0, getting ready:
If you just want a rooted phone with a minimal footprint that will still be easily update-able via the phone's "Wireless update", go on page 2 for a guide to simply root the phone.
When you make ANY operation in SP Flash Tool, PHONE MUST BE OFF AND ONLY CONNECT YOUR PHONE AFTER YOU CLICK THE "START" OR "DOWNLOAD" BUTTONS
If your device is undetected in SP Flash Tool, unplug and remove the battery then try again.
You don't have to do all the steps, depending if you just want a repartition, a root, or the whole package
Don't try to skip steps by flashing the rooted /system partition and custom recoveray at the same time, it will not work
Make sure you have at least 80% battery, just to be sure. Flashing takes a lot of juice, especially the first boot that will show a white logo with full brightness for a while
Step 1, Download drivers and open command window:
Download the VCOM USB Drivers attached in this post, extract them, then open a command windows in Administrator mode like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Step 2, Install the drivers:
Change the directory to the location of the auto-installer and execute install.bat:
Step 3, Verify driver:
To verify if the drivers are OK, turn your phone off and plug it in your computer. You should hear the familiar Windows chime when a new device was plugged in. The Command Window should look like this after the installation:
Step 4, Download the ROM and rooted system:
Download both the 4GB of internal storage repartitioned ROM and rooted Android in this package
You will have to flash the ROM and the rooted /system partition in different steps, so follow the guide and don't try anything to skip steps.
Step 5, Format your phone accordingly:
Download SP Flash Tool v5.1352.01, extract and open flash_tool.exe
You must then format your phone to make it work with the customized re-partitioned ROM by entering these values in the Format tab:
0x0000000045F80000
0x000000018CC80000
Then make sure your phone is DISCONNECTED AND TURNED OFF, click start, wait a second or two and connect your phone. Let SP Flash Tool do its magic until you see the success popup
Step 6, Select the scatter file:
In the Download tab, select the scatter file from the r21 ROM you just downloaded to load all the partitions in SP Flash Tool
Step 7, Flash the repartitioned ROM:
After SP Flash tool finished the checkups, make sure all the settings are the same as the 1st screenshot, then with your phone DISCONNECTED AND TURNED OFF, click Download, wait a few seconds and plug your phone. Download shoud start
Step 8, Initial Android boot:
When you see the success message from SP flash tool, disconnect your phone and turn it on to set up your android. Keep SP Flash tool opened for the next step
THE FIRST BOOT WILL TAKE A VERY LONG TIME, encrypting your /data and FAT partitions, then seeming frozen in the white screen for 20+ minutes. BE PATIENT.
While your phone is booting, you can prepare for the next step.
Step 9, Flash the rooted Android (optional if you want to stop here):
If you just want the repartitioned and don't care about root (yeah, right!), you can stop here. If not, click on the ANDROID partition in SP Flash Tool to select the rooted partition that was included in the package you downloaded.
Make sure only this partition is selected like in the screenshot, then with your phone DISCONNECTED AND TURNED OFF, click Download, wait a few seconds and plug your phone. Download shoud start
Step 10, Apply the root:
Disconnect your phone and restart. This is mandatory before going any further, Android will install SuperSU for root permissions, wait for it to finish.
Keep SP Flash tool opened for the next step.
Step 11, Flash the custom recovery (optional if you want to stop here):
Download the custom recovery (Also attached to this post) then in SP Flash Tool, click the RECOVERY partition to select the recovery you just downloaded
Make sure only this partition is selected like in the screenshot, then with your phone DISCONNECTED AND TURNED OFF, click Download, wait a few seconds and plug your phone. Download shoud start
Step 13, Fix the boot animation memory leak (optional if you want to stop here):
Lollipop has lots of memory leak, especially version 1.0. But one of the worst ones is the boot animation memory leak that XDA member arter97 describes as being due to the memory allocated to play the previous frame is not released.
This can end up in an unstable Android system because of core services being killed due to insufficient memory, or sometimes even in boot loops that you must end by removing your battery (happened to me a few times). Fortunately, he fixed this and posted the solution.
13.1 Get the new binaries to fix that problem, make sure you get version 2:
13.2 Make a backup of file /system/bin/bootanimation. I use and recommend ES File Explorer. Make sure you turn on root explorer to see the system files like such:
13.2 Replace the bootanimation file with the one you downloaded. The one for our phone is this one in the zip package:
bootanimation_v2.zip\aosp\32bit\bootanimation
13.3 Make sure the owner, group and persmissions are the same as the original bootanimation file. It should be the same as on my phone:
Step 14, Download and Install the Xposed Framework (optional if you want to stop here):
If you want the Xposed framework, get the Xposed Installer and the SDK from the official Xposed Lollipop post
14.1 Download these 2 files and copy them on your SD card:
XposedInstaller_XXX.apk
xposed-vXX-sdk21-arm.zip (sdk22 is for Android 5.1)
14.2 Reboot your phone in recovery:
Power off phone or reboot
When the screen is black, before the DG700 logo appears, hold VOLUME-UP and "POWER" button together until you see a black and white menu
Move the cursor to the first menu item (recovery) with the VOLUME-UP button, then select by pressing the VOLUME-DOWN button
14.3 Once You are in your newly installed custom recovery, tap install:
14.3 Select the xposed-vXX-sdk21-arm.zip file from your SD card and swipe the handle at the bottom to accept
14.4 Once done, reboot and go in settings->security and activate Unkown Sources:
14.5 Navigate to where you downloaded the XposedInstaller_XXX.apk file with ES Explorer (or any other way) and install the Xposed application.
Step 15, Fix the Color Fade memory leak (optional):
One of the worst memory leaks of Android 5.0.x is the Color Fade memory leak that causes memory to pile up every time you turn the screen off.
This has been fixed by XDA member tonyp, with his Xposed module that follows the official Android 5.1 patch, available on in the Xposed repository or visa the Play Store:
I'm not 100% sure if Doogee's r21 has fixed this issue, but activating this module will either fix the leak, or change nothing. Better safe than sorry. If I get any confirmation that we don't need it, I will remove this step
Post-Notes:
To make changes to system apps, you can use the following tools. I recommend using these to avoid a boot loop or applications "closing unexpectedly":
Delete system app with Titanium Backup (System application manager corrupted my system)
Integrate updates into system with System application manager (Titanium Backup just shows the loading animation forever)
Convert user applications to system applications with System application manager (Titanium Backup just shows the loading animation forever)
If you wish to install Doogee's r24 update, you cannot do it with the recovery as it will end up in a boot loop. You must use this technique explained by mikaelbrostrom on page 22 of this thread. I did not include these steps here as I did not test it and don't have the screenshots.
If you want to backup all phone, it seems that MTK Droid Tool is not working properly and XDA member lunito has found a way to backup all your phone with some hacks described on page 23 of this thread, using this technique. I did not include these steps here as I did not test it and don't have the screenshots.
anybody...?
Is it still unavailable?
it seems that it has not been done yet ... I just got mine with lolipop and I am also waiting for a root method ...
It seems like this guy managed to do it with vRoot/iRoot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...00-unboxing-hands-t2953664/page3#post59997977
but it did not work with me, either with the latest version of iRoot or an older version. And that was with a Vanilla installation of the latest Android 5.0 from the Doogee website. I asked the guy which version of iRoot he used, but no answer..
Yea but as I understand what he wrote there, he flashed back to KitKat and than rooted the phone, which we know was possible. (Flash back to Android KitKat that's the title of his post) I would like to keep Lolipop and have my phone rooted since it came with some bloatware installed and I need to install some apps that need root privileges. I guess it's a matter of waiting for somebody with the proper knowledge to root it with Lolipop installed. Doogee DG700 users please keep this thread alive until a proper root method for Lolipop is posted. Thanks
Oh yes, you're right, I did not read correctly as usual..
Well, let's hope a hacker cannot live with an unrooted DG700 and fixes that

Heya!
Is it me or nobody found a way to root the Doogoo Titans2 DG700 that has Android 5.0?
There are guides everywhere for KitKat, but it seems like Lollipop 5.0 is more robust and nobody cracked it yet.. It probably means that there is no CWM Recovery for the MTK6582 either huh?
Anyone found info on the subject? Google has not been cooperative and I cannot find anything on xda. I don't think I can live with a phone that has no root and no Xposed framework hehe!
Thank ya!

That's great news! Now, how do I get this old version of Vroot?
Be careful guys, my phone is completely messed up:
-Cannot uninstall any apps as "settings" app crashes
-Cannot open google play store, even after clearing data
-Google play services keeps crashing all the time
-App "superCleaner" got installed and I cannot uninstall it, even with an uninstaller as it comes back after reboot
Dang...sorry about that...are you sure its from the root procedure? Mine works ok...I also checked it with root checker...Green results.

Haha don't worry it's not your fault!
Trying to reset phone right now, will see what happens. If still broken, will reinstall lollipop completely.
I will then try the procedure again and post updates here. Might not finish today though, getting late here

No probs!
I managed to re-flash, re-partition and re-root. All works well and I see the storage space increased, but after the initial setup, the phone enters into a boot loop if I restart.. No idea why. I'm trying to figure out why and when it works perfectly, I'll post the correct vRoot with the EBR1 and EBR2 files in case people want to repartition as well.
In the meantime, if anybody has an idea why it would boot loop, go ahead and tell me.
I'll try it too and post results ASAP. Meanwhile, i did some trying with IRoot en version, did not work but got some suspicious apps installed, also my PC antivirus found the software suspicious. After 2 failed root attempts from iRoot I managed to uninstall the apps that it installed on my phone. Did some reading on the internet and found some troubeleing accusations regarding the vRoot / iRoot software installing crap on users phones. I'll still try rooting with this older version of vRoot and see what happens.
Ok I give up.. I don't know enough about Android. I really don't know why my phone is working perfectly after repartitioning until the first restart after initial setup where it ends up into a boot loop.. I asked help to another XDA member, Elizabeth, who has very good knowledge in repartitioning. Hopefully she can help.
So of all I wanted to do:
1-Repartition for bigger data partition to have more apps (10 apps and phone is already full???)
2-Install a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP
3-Root the phone
4-Install XPosed
All I managed to do was root.. everything else not working but I will still give you guys what I used in case you want to mess with it and can manage to get it working
1-Repartitioning
I attached the files I tried to flash
4GB.rar for a 4GB data partition
6GB.rar for a 6GB partition
And I also included the original one from Doogee for Android 5.0 in case you want to try on your own. I never managed to flash using the scatter file. Every time I was flashing the EBR files with the original scatter file and it seemed to work well, until the first reboot. I created my EBR files with this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/howto-modify-ebr-mediatek-devices-t2769604
And tried using these EBR files:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2455850
But they all resulted in the same boot loop after the first time I restarted the phone (so if you never, ever restart, it works great )
2-Custom recovery
I got a custom recovery from that thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-0-doogee-titans2-t3115515
and I also attached it here. However it is of course not working either, cannot even get into recovery.
3-Root the phone
Just used the VRoot I attached. I rooted my phone about 9999 times with all the flash I did in the past 36 hours and it usually works on the first/second try, except now that I have reinstalled all my apps and after about 10 times GRRR! So just keep trying, it will work eventually. If after 3 tries it's not working, delete the "KingUser" and "supercleaner" apps, try again 2-3 times, rinse and repeat. I was just unlucky that last time.
4-Install XPosed
I did not even get that far since I never was able to install a custom recovery.. There is a guide on how to install the new alpha version for Lollipop and it doesn't seem very hard:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811
That's it! Good luck and I hope we'll have more help to put more details and a better guide
Thanks a lot so far! I'll try this tomorrow after work when I have more time
First, sorry for the late reply!
Maybe I'm missing something, but all I get from Vroot is the error 0x000007d1 with "no device found" USB Debugging is enabled and I've installed the universal ADB drivers, can access my phone storage from the Windows explorer, but vroot just won't work.
So, I've tried several things and several adb and mtp drivers on two different computers, but Windows is still telling me that is has no correct driver for MTP. And vroot just keeps telling me it can't find the device and giving me the "helping" text of "USB_DEBUG", which basically opens a link to their forum explaing on how to enable USB Debugging - which I have enabled.
What the hell am I doing wrong?
Hey any one tell me how to root ASUS_T00Q 5.0 lollipop
Hi
I found a russian site how to root the Cube T8 Plus h**p://4pda.ru/forum/lofiversion/index.php?t695306.html. Here a short translation:
Disclaimer: ******* I'm not responsible for any damages *******
1. Download SuperSu directly to your Cube T8 from official site: h**p://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
2. Download Flash Utility/Driver on your PC: h**p://uploaded.net/file/eyo5yt8c
3. Download TWRP for Cube T8 on your PC: h**p://uploaded.net/file/o54jinin and extract its content to a folder.
Mirror: https://drive.google.com/drive/fold...ourcekey=0-11J8nUVn2_sUUAPHA9kwWg&usp=sharing
4. Install Device Driver from Step 2. on your PC (you have to agree Security warning). Depending on Windows version used, disabling Driver Signing might be required prior installation.
5. Start flash_tool.exe
6. Go to "Download" tab and Click "Scatter-Loading" Button, move to folder created in Step 3. and select the file "MT6753_Android_scatter.txt". Press the "Download" Button
7. Power down your Cube T8 tablet. After power down, connect it to a USB Port on your PC (No, you don't need to power it up - leave it powered down!). After a few moments, the flash tool should recognise the tablet and will install twrp recovery and should show "Success" Screen
8. Remove tablet from PC. Boot into Boot Selection by pressing Volume-Up and Power button simultaneously, Select "Recovery" and wait for twrp booting up.
9. In twrp, Install Zip File downloaded on Step 1. This should be found in Folder "MyFavorite"
10. Reboot device. By selecting "Reboot" in twrp, the device will hang. But don't worry; just press the power button for about 10 seconds for a forced reboot.
11. Voilà, you have a rooted Cube T8 Plus
Thanks for the guide. Can you provide more mirror? Uploaded is currently blocked in my country. Google Drive would be sweet.
Thanks.
Anybody tried this?
It works perfectly, but I had to disable the driver's signature check.
Now I just need the modified scatter file to get a better memory repartition. These russian guys on pda.ru found out how to repartition the memory, but the file is now disappeared from internet http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=695306&st=560#entry44767726
Yes !
it worked for me but i didnt succeed in installing the right driver (package given in this post was correctly installed) for tablet in off mode,
so i had to force download of recovery and if SuperSU install (with error) when i launch it it warn for binary installation.
but root is effective and i can now use soft like adaway or else that need complete root access :victory:

That's weird, it worked flawlessly for me.
By the way, the internal 2 GB storage is way to small for me, I need a bigger partition and since the 4pda guys deleted their scatter files, I'm trying to create it by myself following this guide, I hope to not mess up things
Ok, I found the scatter editor (that was deleted too). Here you can download it. OP, if you want, you can add it in the guide.
Thanks for your feedback and your work Dyonysus, i assume all errors was consecutive to Kingroot installation (he didn't succeed in rooting but i left it installed when i flashed the recovery as i checked sometmes if a root policy was avaible)
This root guide can be used for Cube T8 also?
I also confirm this method works perfectly. Good job finding this.

So, have you succeeded in repartitioning the internal memory? If yes, did you face any issues or errors in the process and is the device stable and working as fast afterwards?

Unfortunately I didn't. I got a bunch of problems tryin' to forge the new scatter file and, when I finally got a decent one, the damn tool didn't flash it properly.
If someone could find those two files or just ask those russian guys to upload them again, it'd be terrific.
Hi,
This post is a subject to change (grow), since I will keep it as a record for my tips for this fine tablet.
Installation of TWRP recovery and increasing /data partition (YES! That's possible)
I've succeeded getting TWRP, root and larger /data partition, so after screenshot I'll put detailed how-to. Sorry for duplicating first post, but I'd like to have everything in one place in the way I exactly did it.
Warning: this method seems to be blocked in some newer OS updates, see this post for reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64801688&postcount=25

You need SD card for that.
Cube T8 Plus TWRP and root:
1. Download SuperSu and copy it to the root of SD card (without extracting): http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
2. Downlad Utility/Driver to PC: http://uploaded.net/file/eyo5yt8c
3. Download Cube T8 TWRP recovery to PC: http://uploaded.net/file/o54jinin and unpack.
4. Install driver on PC. Depending on Windows version, if the driver installation fails, it may be necessary to disable signature check (google for that).
5. Run flash_tool (downloaded in step 2). If it doesn't run, try copy it to the root folder of your hard drive, eg. C:\SP_Flash_Tool_exe_Windows_v5.1516.00\, albo D:\SP_Flash_Tool_exe_Windows_v5.1516.00\
6. In "Download" section choose "Scatter-Loading" point to "MT6753_Android_scatter" from /Recovery (downloaded in step 3), press "Download" button.
7. Turn off the tablet. Connect it via USB to PC (tablet needs to be switched off!). After short while, flashing tool should recognize the tablet and start flashing automatically, installing TWRP recovery. After that you should get "Success" screen.
8. Disconnect tablet from PC. Run it in Recovery by pressing VOLUME_UP and POWER simultanously.
9. Using VOLUME_UP, choose "Recovery" and confirm it by pressing "VOLUME_DOWN". Wait untill TWRP starts.
10. In TWRP choose 'install ZIP' and point to "/external sd/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip"
11. After installation is finished, choose "Reboot". Recovery will hang, but do not fear Press Power for 10s to force turn off. Then turn on the tablet.
Your tablet is now rooted!
Change partition size:
1. Download and copy to the root of SD (without extracting) Resize_v22.4.1-signed.zip: (take attachment from the first post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/rooting-roms/guide-how-to-resize-data-internal-t3180978/ )
2. Run the tablet in Recovery by pressing VOLUME_UP and POWER simultanously.
3. Using VOLUME_UP, choose "Recovery" and confirm it by pressing "VOLUME_DOWN". Wait untill TWRP starts.
4. In TWRP choose 'install ZIP' and point to "external sd/Resize_v22.4.1-signed.zip""
5. In one of following windows choose the partition size. I recommend between 8GB and 10GB. WARNING: If you choose less than the current size, you may loose your data. More than or equal to 8GB is a safe value.
Enabling Multiuser accounts:
1. The device must be rooted
2. Use any root explorer to edit /system/build.prop.
3. Add to the end of a file:
Code:
fw.show_multiuserui=1
fw.max_users=5
4. Reboot
Info: After first try to swich to guest the device force rebooted, but then it worked well.
Disabling killing background apps
If you encounter situation in which apps are being killed right after they are put to background (each application switch using recent apps causes application reinitialization), just make sure that Developer Options/Apps/Don't keep activities is switched off!
Permamently disabling pre-installed chinese apps (they will not reappear after full reboot)
There are 6 chinese apps pre-installed, which can be easily disabled. You can try to simply uninstall them, but you'll find that after full reboot they reappear.
So the best way to disable them is to use any root explorer and get rid APKs in /system/vendor/operator/app. I myself renamed app folder to app.old. They do not appear anymore.
What to do if tablet seems to be dead (black screen - no reaction), but it just misbehaves
Couple of times I've had a situation in which the screen was blank and I couldn't wake up the device. I could however run recovery, so the first time I performed reset from recovery and it helped.
Next time I found out that it's automatic brightness that fails and causes the screen to go blank. So the solution is to press power button, make a swipe gesture from the top to show brightness slider (you will not see it, but it works even on the lockscreen), and try to blindly press this slider. It should be about 2,7 cm (1,06 inch) from the top, with ca. 3cm (1,2 inch) margins on the left and right. Then stop using autobrightness with slider set to zero.
Thanks a ton
Amazing , followed your instructions and my tablet is now rooted and also has 9+GB of data partition. Thanks a ton.. Keep up the good work.
--Rao:
after using the resize script it not remount the partition and android not start. Android ask for a password to "decrypt data" but the problem is that the partition is missing.
Any suggest about this?
thanks
