[Resolved] Titans2 Doogee DG700 Android 5.0 Lollipop Repartition/Root/Recovery/Xposed workshop - General Questions and Answers

UPDATE:
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!
From the moment I bought this phone, I only had problems:
-Facebook always freezing/hanging/lagging when I'm talking to someone that is talking at the same time (had to revert to Android 4.4 to fix this).
-Battery could not handle the heat of the "waterproof" phone and eventually bloated, becoming so swollen that I had to buy a new one.
-Back cover's cheap plastic snapping bits eventually broke as well, had to replace the back cover and order a new one (and one snap broke again).
-Phone was never waterproof, tiny droplets of water could get in from the microphone whenever it was humid and the phone was useless when it happened
-"Shockproof" phone fell from a height of one meter while I was cycling and now the touchscreen is completely unresponsive, even in recovery... completely dead
-Supposedly solid touchscreen cracked real bad at 2 places after I inadvertently put my keys in the same pocket
-The fake plastic chrome in the back gets all scratched and chipped as it's the first thing that touches any surface.
-I suspect this phone of having corrupted and ruin 2 genuine sdcards that I had to replace. Thank you for SanDisk warranty!!
Now all I have is a very expensive clock with a screen that I can just turn on and off. Go look somewhere else than Doogee to buy a phone. I dropped my old LG-P500 from the third floor when I hung the sheets while my phone was in there, dropped a cheap Mediatek Cubot down the stairs and both worked perfectly after. But a stupid shockproof phone can't survive a one meter fall
IF YOU ALREADY HAVE THIS PHONE
Best way to use it is to revert back to Kit Kat. Believe us (Several XDA members and me), Android 5.0, even with the backport fixes is unresponsive, slow and sluggish.
tvladan made a guide for the best way to repartition + root + custom recovery + xposed your phone on post #239:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63260626&postcount=239
OLD POST:
This thread is a work in progress for the DG700 to get better partitions, root access, a custom recovery, the Xposed framework and fix memory leaks.
We are still improving it, here's what we have so far:
4GB internal storage partition --> OK
6GB internal storage partition --> IN PROGRESS
Root access with Kingroot --> OK
Root access with Super SU --> OK
Custom Recovery --> OK
Xposed framework --> OK
Custom ROM with black theme --> IN PROGRESS
Credits:
All this has been made possible by the common efforts of XDA members tvladan, Nudeldampf, Pepo1980, mikaelbrostrom, lunito.
ROM was made by Yalita35254
Recovery was ported from yuweng's TWRP by Hanuma50
Xposed framework was developped by rovo89
The bootanimation memory leak was fixed by arter97
The ColorFade memory leak was fixed by tonyp
Make sure to click "thanks" to these awesome people if you see their posts!
Disclaimer:
Of course, none of the listed people and me are responsible if you break your device completely. However, during the test phase I have flashed well over 80 times total and many times thought I killed my phone definitely, but it was always ok. Flashing is so easy nowadays, and you can pretty much always recover from any mistake by reflashing everything. If your phone is not detected anymore by the flashing software, unplug the phone, remove its battery and wait a few seconds before retrying.
Guide:
Step 0, getting ready:
If you just want a rooted phone with a minimal footprint that will still be easily update-able via the phone's "Wireless update", go on page 2 for a guide to simply root the phone.
When you make ANY operation in SP Flash Tool, PHONE MUST BE OFF AND ONLY CONNECT YOUR PHONE AFTER YOU CLICK THE "START" OR "DOWNLOAD" BUTTONS
If your device is undetected in SP Flash Tool, unplug and remove the battery then try again.
You don't have to do all the steps, depending if you just want a repartition, a root, or the whole package
Don't try to skip steps by flashing the rooted /system partition and custom recoveray at the same time, it will not work
Make sure you have at least 80% battery, just to be sure. Flashing takes a lot of juice, especially the first boot that will show a white logo with full brightness for a while
Step 1, Download drivers and open command window:
Download the VCOM USB Drivers attached in this post, extract them, then open a command windows in Administrator mode like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Step 2, Install the drivers:
Change the directory to the location of the auto-installer and execute install.bat:
Step 3, Verify driver:
To verify if the drivers are OK, turn your phone off and plug it in your computer. You should hear the familiar Windows chime when a new device was plugged in. The Command Window should look like this after the installation:
Step 4, Download the ROM and rooted system:
Download both the 4GB of internal storage repartitioned ROM and rooted Android in this package
You will have to flash the ROM and the rooted /system partition in different steps, so follow the guide and don't try anything to skip steps.
Step 5, Format your phone accordingly:
Download SP Flash Tool v5.1352.01, extract and open flash_tool.exe
You must then format your phone to make it work with the customized re-partitioned ROM by entering these values in the Format tab:
0x0000000045F80000
0x000000018CC80000
Then make sure your phone is DISCONNECTED AND TURNED OFF, click start, wait a second or two and connect your phone. Let SP Flash Tool do its magic until you see the success popup
Step 6, Select the scatter file:
In the Download tab, select the scatter file from the r21 ROM you just downloaded to load all the partitions in SP Flash Tool
Step 7, Flash the repartitioned ROM:
After SP Flash tool finished the checkups, make sure all the settings are the same as the 1st screenshot, then with your phone DISCONNECTED AND TURNED OFF, click Download, wait a few seconds and plug your phone. Download shoud start
Step 8, Initial Android boot:
When you see the success message from SP flash tool, disconnect your phone and turn it on to set up your android. Keep SP Flash tool opened for the next step
THE FIRST BOOT WILL TAKE A VERY LONG TIME, encrypting your /data and FAT partitions, then seeming frozen in the white screen for 20+ minutes. BE PATIENT.
While your phone is booting, you can prepare for the next step.
Step 9, Flash the rooted Android (optional if you want to stop here):
If you just want the repartitioned and don't care about root (yeah, right!), you can stop here. If not, click on the ANDROID partition in SP Flash Tool to select the rooted partition that was included in the package you downloaded.
Make sure only this partition is selected like in the screenshot, then with your phone DISCONNECTED AND TURNED OFF, click Download, wait a few seconds and plug your phone. Download shoud start
Step 10, Apply the root:
Disconnect your phone and restart. This is mandatory before going any further, Android will install SuperSU for root permissions, wait for it to finish.
Keep SP Flash tool opened for the next step.
Step 11, Flash the custom recovery (optional if you want to stop here):
Download the custom recovery (Also attached to this post) then in SP Flash Tool, click the RECOVERY partition to select the recovery you just downloaded
Make sure only this partition is selected like in the screenshot, then with your phone DISCONNECTED AND TURNED OFF, click Download, wait a few seconds and plug your phone. Download shoud start
Step 13, Fix the boot animation memory leak (optional if you want to stop here):
Lollipop has lots of memory leak, especially version 1.0. But one of the worst ones is the boot animation memory leak that XDA member arter97 describes as being due to the memory allocated to play the previous frame is not released.
This can end up in an unstable Android system because of core services being killed due to insufficient memory, or sometimes even in boot loops that you must end by removing your battery (happened to me a few times). Fortunately, he fixed this and posted the solution.
13.1 Get the new binaries to fix that problem, make sure you get version 2:
13.2 Make a backup of file /system/bin/bootanimation. I use and recommend ES File Explorer. Make sure you turn on root explorer to see the system files like such:
13.2 Replace the bootanimation file with the one you downloaded. The one for our phone is this one in the zip package:
bootanimation_v2.zip\aosp\32bit\bootanimation
13.3 Make sure the owner, group and persmissions are the same as the original bootanimation file. It should be the same as on my phone:
Step 14, Download and Install the Xposed Framework (optional if you want to stop here):
If you want the Xposed framework, get the Xposed Installer and the SDK from the official Xposed Lollipop post
14.1 Download these 2 files and copy them on your SD card:
XposedInstaller_XXX.apk
xposed-vXX-sdk21-arm.zip (sdk22 is for Android 5.1)
14.2 Reboot your phone in recovery:
Power off phone or reboot
When the screen is black, before the DG700 logo appears, hold VOLUME-UP and "POWER" button together until you see a black and white menu
Move the cursor to the first menu item (recovery) with the VOLUME-UP button, then select by pressing the VOLUME-DOWN button
14.3 Once You are in your newly installed custom recovery, tap install:
14.3 Select the xposed-vXX-sdk21-arm.zip file from your SD card and swipe the handle at the bottom to accept
14.4 Once done, reboot and go in settings->security and activate Unkown Sources:
14.5 Navigate to where you downloaded the XposedInstaller_XXX.apk file with ES Explorer (or any other way) and install the Xposed application.
Step 15, Fix the Color Fade memory leak (optional):
One of the worst memory leaks of Android 5.0.x is the Color Fade memory leak that causes memory to pile up every time you turn the screen off.
This has been fixed by XDA member tonyp, with his Xposed module that follows the official Android 5.1 patch, available on in the Xposed repository or visa the Play Store:
I'm not 100% sure if Doogee's r21 has fixed this issue, but activating this module will either fix the leak, or change nothing. Better safe than sorry. If I get any confirmation that we don't need it, I will remove this step
Post-Notes:
To make changes to system apps, you can use the following tools. I recommend using these to avoid a boot loop or applications "closing unexpectedly":
Delete system app with Titanium Backup (System application manager corrupted my system)
Integrate updates into system with System application manager (Titanium Backup just shows the loading animation forever)
Convert user applications to system applications with System application manager (Titanium Backup just shows the loading animation forever)
If you wish to install Doogee's r24 update, you cannot do it with the recovery as it will end up in a boot loop. You must use this technique explained by mikaelbrostrom on page 22 of this thread. I did not include these steps here as I did not test it and don't have the screenshots.
If you want to backup all phone, it seems that MTK Droid Tool is not working properly and XDA member lunito has found a way to backup all your phone with some hacks described on page 23 of this thread, using this technique. I did not include these steps here as I did not test it and don't have the screenshots.

anybody...?
Is it still unavailable?

it seems that it has not been done yet ... I just got mine with lolipop and I am also waiting for a root method ...

It seems like this guy managed to do it with vRoot/iRoot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...00-unboxing-hands-t2953664/page3#post59997977
but it did not work with me, either with the latest version of iRoot or an older version. And that was with a Vanilla installation of the latest Android 5.0 from the Doogee website. I asked the guy which version of iRoot he used, but no answer..

Yea but as I understand what he wrote there, he flashed back to KitKat and than rooted the phone, which we know was possible. (Flash back to Android KitKat that's the title of his post) I would like to keep Lolipop and have my phone rooted since it came with some bloatware installed and I need to install some apps that need root privileges. I guess it's a matter of waiting for somebody with the proper knowledge to root it with Lolipop installed. Doogee DG700 users please keep this thread alive until a proper root method for Lolipop is posted. Thanks

Oh yes, you're right, I did not read correctly as usual..
Well, let's hope a hacker cannot live with an unrooted DG700 and fixes that

Heya!
Is it me or nobody found a way to root the Doogoo Titans2 DG700 that has Android 5.0?
There are guides everywhere for KitKat, but it seems like Lollipop 5.0 is more robust and nobody cracked it yet.. It probably means that there is no CWM Recovery for the MTK6582 either huh?
Anyone found info on the subject? Google has not been cooperative and I cannot find anything on xda. I don't think I can live with a phone that has no root and no Xposed framework hehe!
Thank ya!

That's great news! Now, how do I get this old version of Vroot?

Be careful guys, my phone is completely messed up:
-Cannot uninstall any apps as "settings" app crashes
-Cannot open google play store, even after clearing data
-Google play services keeps crashing all the time
-App "superCleaner" got installed and I cannot uninstall it, even with an uninstaller as it comes back after reboot

Dang...sorry about that...are you sure its from the root procedure? Mine works ok...I also checked it with root checker...Green results.

Haha don't worry it's not your fault!
Trying to reset phone right now, will see what happens. If still broken, will reinstall lollipop completely.
I will then try the procedure again and post updates here. Might not finish today though, getting late here

I hope it all works well Can you post how you did it after trying the procedure again? I've done some things with my old Samsung phone years ago, but am a total noob on this one

No probs!
I managed to re-flash, re-partition and re-root. All works well and I see the storage space increased, but after the initial setup, the phone enters into a boot loop if I restart.. No idea why. I'm trying to figure out why and when it works perfectly, I'll post the correct vRoot with the EBR1 and EBR2 files in case people want to repartition as well.
In the meantime, if anybody has an idea why it would boot loop, go ahead and tell me.

I'll try it too and post results ASAP. Meanwhile, i did some trying with IRoot en version, did not work but got some suspicious apps installed, also my PC antivirus found the software suspicious. After 2 failed root attempts from iRoot I managed to uninstall the apps that it installed on my phone. Did some reading on the internet and found some troubeleing accusations regarding the vRoot / iRoot software installing crap on users phones. I'll still try rooting with this older version of vRoot and see what happens.

Ok I give up.. I don't know enough about Android. I really don't know why my phone is working perfectly after repartitioning until the first restart after initial setup where it ends up into a boot loop.. I asked help to another XDA member, Elizabeth, who has very good knowledge in repartitioning. Hopefully she can help.
So of all I wanted to do:
1-Repartition for bigger data partition to have more apps (10 apps and phone is already full???)
2-Install a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP
3-Root the phone
4-Install XPosed
All I managed to do was root.. everything else not working but I will still give you guys what I used in case you want to mess with it and can manage to get it working
1-Repartitioning
I attached the files I tried to flash
4GB.rar for a 4GB data partition
6GB.rar for a 6GB partition
And I also included the original one from Doogee for Android 5.0 in case you want to try on your own. I never managed to flash using the scatter file. Every time I was flashing the EBR files with the original scatter file and it seemed to work well, until the first reboot. I created my EBR files with this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/howto-modify-ebr-mediatek-devices-t2769604
And tried using these EBR files:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2455850
But they all resulted in the same boot loop after the first time I restarted the phone (so if you never, ever restart, it works great )
2-Custom recovery
I got a custom recovery from that thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-0-doogee-titans2-t3115515
and I also attached it here. However it is of course not working either, cannot even get into recovery.
3-Root the phone
Just used the VRoot I attached. I rooted my phone about 9999 times with all the flash I did in the past 36 hours and it usually works on the first/second try, except now that I have reinstalled all my apps and after about 10 times GRRR! So just keep trying, it will work eventually. If after 3 tries it's not working, delete the "KingUser" and "supercleaner" apps, try again 2-3 times, rinse and repeat. I was just unlucky that last time.
4-Install XPosed
I did not even get that far since I never was able to install a custom recovery.. There is a guide on how to install the new alpha version for Lollipop and it doesn't seem very hard:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811
That's it! Good luck and I hope we'll have more help to put more details and a better guide

Thanks a lot so far! I'll try this tomorrow after work when I have more time

First, sorry for the late reply!
Maybe I'm missing something, but all I get from Vroot is the error 0x000007d1 with "no device found" USB Debugging is enabled and I've installed the universal ADB drivers, can access my phone storage from the Windows explorer, but vroot just won't work.

So, I've tried several things and several adb and mtp drivers on two different computers, but Windows is still telling me that is has no correct driver for MTP. And vroot just keeps telling me it can't find the device and giving me the "helping" text of "USB_DEBUG", which basically opens a link to their forum explaing on how to enable USB Debugging - which I have enabled.
What the hell am I doing wrong?

Hey any one tell me how to root ASUS_T00Q 5.0 lollipop

[ROM] Custom Roms For the GoGear Connect 3 8Gb

as I have promised here is are the first 3 custom ROMs for the gogear connect 3 8gb. if there is interest i will work on a few ROMs for the 16gb version also.
The way of installing roms on this device is a little different than most people are used to so i have included instructions
(with pictures this time!) but because of this way to do it it also makes this device almost brick proof and easy to fix.
before we start make sure your battery is at least charged 50%
THIS WILL DELETE ALL OF YOUR DATA EVEN THE STUFF ON THE "SD CARD"
In this guide i will be using the AndroidGeneric Rom for the example.
be sure to look in the rom package to see if i have given any extra instructions for the specific rom
1. Download the MfgTool Package at the bottom of this post. also download the rom package you wish to install.
2. extract the MfgTool Package somewhere onto your computer
3. extract the rom Package somewhere on your computer also.
4. now take the actual rom folder (in this case the AndroidGeneric folder) and put it into the profiles folder in MFG tool folder
5. Turn off your MP3 Player Compleatly
6. now with your player still turned off hold Volume Up and plug it into your computer.
7. dont let go of Volume Up untill a new device named SE Blank ELVIS shows up on your computer

}
8. install the driver located in the Drivers folder inside the MfgTools Folder (the driver isnt signed so you have to click a popup allowing it to install, x64 users may need to turn off driver signing to get this to work)
9. After Thats Done open MfgTool.exe
10. once Mfg tool is open click on the Options drop down menu from the menu bar and click Configuration
11. in the window that pops up Select the USB Ports tab. then scroll down the menu untill you find "Freescale i.MX51 USB BulkIO Device" and put a check mark in the check box next to it. then select ok.
12. now your back to the Mfg tool main window. Check the Profile drop down menu to make sure it is on the rom you want. then hit start.
13. it will install the rom you selected. when you get to the part where it says "please connect device" and the stop button is red it is done installing. hit the stop button and unplug your mp3 player from the computer.
14. turn on your mp3 player with its new rom. it may take a little bit longer than usual to start up but thats only because its for the first time.
15. you are done unless there are more instructions with the rom.
for people that have already done this, here is a set of instructions to install differant roms
1. extract the rom Package somewhere on your computer.
2. now take the actual rom folder (in this case the AndroidGeneric folder) and put it into the profiles folder in MFG tool folder
3. Turn off your MP3 Player Compleatly
4. now with your player still turned off hold Volume Up and plug it into your computer using the same usb port that you used the first time
5. dont let go of Volume Up untill you hear the beep of the computer recognizing the device.
9. After Thats Done open MfgTool.exe
12.Check the Profile drop down menu to make sure it is on the rom you want. then hit start.
13. it will install the rom you selected. when you get to the part where it says "please connect device" and the stop button is red it is done installing. hit the stop button and unplug your mp3 player from the computer.
14. turn on your mp3 player with its new rom. it may take a little bit longer than usual to start up but thats only because its for the first time.
15. you are done unless there are more instructions with the rom.
Here Are the Files:
MfgTool
Download
Custom rom AndroidGeneric with root and all the gogear modifications removed and the regular android files installed.(regular android boot screen also) (radio app is from original rom)
Download
Original Rom with Root

Do I need to be rooted already to follow these steps or it doesn't matter?
you dont need to be rooted this can be used as an alternative to rooting
thanks for the guide im rooted running stock rom minus bloat that u uploaded
im working on a pretty cool ROM. ill release it when i get all the bugs out. it will be completely different from the roms i have posted so far. im working on a mix between the honeycomb blue accents and ipod touch styling with the page transitions form ICS.and custom fonts. im using the MUIUI Music app to give it a mor ipod touch feel. when im done testing the rom ill post it up here for you guys.
at this moment in time i am unable to continue in develpoment on the device i had to sell it because of some financial issues. i will post the rom i made as it stood the day i sold the device. it was a pretty good rom and it was pretty straight foward. i will post it online within the next few days
I have a 16GB version and would love to install a custom ROM on it. Please count me ad interested in getting a 16GB version. I am also running a 64bit Version of Windows, does your guide support this, or only 32bit systems?
thanks! this gogear is my first android device.. i am currently running your -bloat rom. i would like to create my own roms. i was wondering though how is it you create these rom?? is there a tutorial somewhere about this?
Thank you for creating these ROMS. Can you confirm what build they are based off of?
The latest build from Phillips is:
Android Version: 2.3.3
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.3-00054-g1e2e42c
Build Number: GGC3.01.06.10
I am guessing that your builds are based off of these, but would like to make sure before I flash something. (This is good info to have in the OP in some form.)
Have one coming
When I get mines on the 12th ogf february i may see if i can make roms

you need a linux computer and the android sdk to develope and the adb drivers installed.
After following this guide, my GGC became bricked
MfgTool would stop at "Formatting op6 partition" before showing me "Update error -65535-" and after unplugging/plugging back in it shows up as "Linux File-Stor Gadget" and I can't access it from Windows because it says "Please insert a disk into drive X:" (I changed the drive letter so I wouldn't get confused)
It turns on but doesn't get past the Philips logo. I tried repairing it with songbird but I always ends with an unexplained error.
I tried flashing it with mateo1212's OriginalRooted and AndroidGeneric roms as well as the original GGC3 rom found in C:/Program Files/Philips/Philips Songbird Resources/Firmware/SA3CNT/SA3CNT.zip (extracted the archive to MfgTool/Profiles and named it SA3CNT) and still no luck, ending in the same error mentioned above.
Can anyone help? Philips is already sending me a replacement (I played dumb with them) but if I could save this one it would be great...
Can anyone help me with this? I`m doing everything as the instructions say, but the MfgTool wont update the rom.
It starts working on the device, but gets stuck on error message (operation time out). After that it starts all over by itself.
One possible reason could be that the mfgtool version provided here was not working properly on my win7 (64bit). To solve this I downloaded another version of the program form the authors website.
The reason I had to change version was that the mfgtool crashed everytime I entered the "configuration" menu and the "usb ports" submenu.
All the help is much appreciated!

Hi,
I also want to change rom but after reading you, I'm afraid now.
Have you take a look to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396085
It says on the first post that:
I Have Figured out how to unbrick and flash this device if you have Messed it up while having root privileges. this method can also be used to install custom roms once some are made. if people need the repair/flash method or wanna work on roms let me know in the comments and i will post the files and guides needed for it.

I am new to this forum and normally would not dream of rooting so I have printed the instructions and thoughly read them. I wish to use the Original ROM rooted and with bloatware removed. I understand the instructions except for step 8. How do I install the driver?
Anyone know why some people report failure and bricked devices? I would hate for this to go wrong!
Where is everyone?

Hi, just follow the guideline it will be ok, as to step 8, in the device manager you should right click the SE Blank ELVIS and manually install the driver, wait a moment it will successfully install the driver, after that you can follow next step.
By the way, I just flashed under Win7 64, everything went smoothly when just follow the guideline. Thank you mateo1212!
For people with bricks because of this
PPl don't be scared if you get bricked, i try at first and i got bricked, my device was in a loop and did not start, at the beginning just was showing a black screen then i tried to turn it on and it was in a loop. But i manage to recover it! This is what i did to recover it:
Download the mfgtool provided in this post.
Download the android files to flash provided also here
Put the device in flash mode or whatever is called the state when you power on the device with the volume up key pressed. ( for me this was specially hard since it was doing a loop, what i did was to push the reset button with a needle, then as soon as release the reset, push the power button and the volume up, and then connect the usb cable... create your own way to do it, just keep in mind you need to have your device booted in this kind of service mode ( vol up and power) before proceed.
Then just click on start and wait... it did it successfully this time...
Obviously you need to put your rom folder in profiles and everything just as explained in this guide.
THANKS, I UPDATED MY DEVICE WITH ROOT! :cyclops:

In my case it failed just after it erase everything with no reason, however the same method worked the second time so i think is not risky to try, you are going to be able to install it eventually following this method. For more info see my other post. Cheers.

This thread is for discussion for the development of this device. All interested devs are very welcome to join and help.
I started working on this device since I got it day 1 on March 11, 2013. Slowly, I progressed to every step in learning more about this device. Since then, many have joined finding ways to make this device better.
UPDATE:
This thread is old and very few to none uses this device anymore. I will leave this thread here for your reference.
All of the developments of this device will still be posted here so always keep in touch with this thread for great news.
Cheers! :good:
Unbrick theory...
trying the one touch upgrade utility. it wipes all data in phone and installs a fresh and latest ROM for the device. i guess this will also fix a bricked device somehow.
after this i will try to root it again using MTK tools and ap flash tools with a different idea in my mind... hope it works this time...
[EDIT] UNBRICK METHOD CONFIRMED WORKING!!!
One touch Upgrade
Hello there I'm a total noob in rooting and unlocking bootloads. I just got the same phone as my first android phone and wondered how to root it and I end up here. Now I'm asking how did you get the one touch upgrade software. I've searched the whole alcatel website but I keep getting on the FAQ page. Would you be so kind to put up the link for the software because I kinda bricked my phone here. I was also wondering what speed did you use during your Bin4ry script root attempt? Normal or Special? Keep doing a good job. Thanks for having the time to look for ways to root this phone.

I tried the normal mode as Bin4ry said that the others might brick the phone it it wasn't the right model. did you brick it using the srcipt? any way. still trying to root it and finding help from rua1 that has a great knowledge in MTK phones...
here's the link of the upgrade utiliuty... just install it and choose alcatel 4030 (if your phone is s'pop) then power of the phone remove the battery and follow the instructions on PC and wait till it says plug the phone while powered off.. plug the usb (without battery) then wait for it to detect the device. when it loads, put the battery back and wait for it to download the firmware.. it will take hours to download it.. it's about 2+gigs... good luck on unbricking.. hope it works...
Phone unbricked
Many thanks for the software. My phone is now back to stock rom. for the Bin4ry I also tried Normal because I thought it was for tabs only. So MTK is the only course of action? Any news on fixing the 2 point horizontal bug? and the alcatel FAQ says there's this TCL calibration that you can activate to you know "calibrate" the touch screen. Do you also get the problem where in the stock alarm app alarms but you can't dismiss it ( I set it to crazy mode ) where you need to press 3 buttons to dismiss but still won't stop I really need to pull the battery out. Help please Thanks in advance.

Great. So my theory really worked. Glad you unbricked it. I'm getting closer to rooting it. Just having problems flashing the cwm. Ones I managed to flash it, rooting may be successful. I use Mtk tools and flash tools and get help from rua1. Didn't use my alarm before so i'm not sure about the bug. Maybe you don't have to set it in crazy mode..
I tried to set the alarm in crazy mode and everything works fine. Just dismiss, unlock, and tap the three buttons with numbers and your done..
Rooted, finally!!
I finally rooted the alcatel spop. I will make a guide maybe later how I did it...
[GUIDE]How to flash CWM recovery and root Alcatel One Touch S'POP 4030
How to flash CWM recovery and root Alcatel One Touch S'POP 4030X(Glory 2)
Disclaimer: Your warranty is now void. You do this in your own risk. I do not take any responsibility to your device. This will definitely brick your device which is normal but follow the right instructions to make it work again.
Credits: This is tuts would not be possible without the help from the creator of MTKdroid tools, rua1 from XDA Developers. Thank the guy for his wonderful tool. If you wanna know how I did it, go to his thread right here. I also wanna acknowledge The Solutor and rimmon1971's efforts for porting the TWRP to our device. You can find The Solutor's work here.
Requirements:
1. A windows based PC
2. MTK Droid Root & Tools & SP Flash Tool
3. Universal ADB driver
4. One Touch Upgrade S
5. Root script
6. Patience
7. Most important! Use your brain!
Important!
To make this work without errors, don't use other drivers available in the web. Just install One Touch Upgrade S first. It will install the USB VCOM preloader driver. It will be needed by the SPFT to detect the phone. Use the provided ADB driver for the MT65xx_android_phone. If ever you get stucked in an error and your device wont boot anymore, just use One Touch Upgrade and your phone will be as good as new...
Guide: CWM/TWRP recovery
1. Download MTK Droid Root & Tools & SP Flash Tools, ADB Drivers, One Touch Upgrade S, and the Root script. Extract them anywhere in your computer.
2.Install ADB driver. This step is now optional to get adb working. You can now skip to step 5 if you just want to get rooted with CWM/TWRP recovery installed.. In your phone, go to Settings>Development. Set to on and check USB debugging.

3. Connect device to PC. Driver will fail to install (thats normal). Install UniversalAdbDriverSetup6.msi
Note: in Windows 8, this will pop-up. do this:
4. After installing the Universal ADB driver, go to device manager of your computer. Follow the images as descirbed.
ADB commands should work now (if you have ADB installed) and you won't have any problems about MTK droid tool not detecting phone.
5. Be sure that you have already installed One Touch Upgrade S before this step. Open SP Flash tool and select the scatter file by clicking on the Scatter-loading button.
6. UNCHECK BOOT and leave RECOVERY checked. Disregard what is on the photo. There's are reports that the latest firmwares are incompatible with the uploaded patched boot.img.
Note: By default, the CWM recovery will be selected in the SP Flash tool. If you want the fully working TWRP-recovery (I recomment this because CWM recovery is not fully functional), just click RECOVERY and replace it with this file.
7. Click Download button. Click yes on the download warning. Turn off phone, remove battery and connect the phone (without battery) and wait until SP Flash tool detects the phone and watch as it flash the image.
8. If everything passes without errors, unplug the phone, reinsert battery and boot to recovery by pressing power + volume up.
9. You should boot in CWM/TWRP recovery. We are ready to flash the Superuser app to gain root.
Guide: Superuser
You can use mtk droid root and tools here. Just plug in phone to pc while still in CWM recovery. Run mtk tools, wait to detect phone, click superuser, then build.prop, then delete china. Your done. Or use the guide below if you have problems with it.
Using CWM recovery to flash superSU

7. It will flash the app to the system including all needed binaries. I also included the fix-permissions banary which is missing from the ROM.
8. Reboot the phone and wait. It will boot normally and no data will be lost. You will see superuser app in your app drawer. You are now rooted!

boot_logo changed!
tried to change the boot logo and it worked! thanks to balamu96m for his guide.
This is my new boot logo
bootanimation problem!
I changed my bootanimation and tried if it works using these commands which i normally do with my past android devices.
Code:
adb shell bootanimation
the animation works fine but when i hit:
Code:
adb reboot
the animation showed was just android mask or android shine which shows when you don't have bootanimation.zip inside /data/local or /system/media. it's like a default bootanimation.
so once I booted, I tried again
Code:
adb shell bootanimation
the bootanimation works but when I reboot, it's back to default.
I tried replacing back the original bootanimation.zip but it still the defaut bootanimation. It's very weird. I haven't encountered this before...

Found out the cause of this issue. The stock ROM has no fix_permissions binary. So I pushed the binary and tried to fix perm again and now custom bootanimation.zip works!

Vodafone Smart first 6* NL *(EU) Rooting and More!
Done & Closed! After a wild chase finding the correct tools and apk's this took me 2 days to complete an fully rooted and Simlock free Vodafone branded Smart Firt 6.
Most of the files can be downloaded from below here on XDADISCLAIMER:
Rooting your phone and using custom Recoveries and ROM's have risks and may Void your warranty and can result in bricking your device, and has nothing to do with Google or the device manufacturers. In case of any mishap I am not responsible if you brick/ruin your phone in any way.
Basic computer skills are required and minimal knowledge about the phone and phone utilities also.
Make sure that whatever you do, you are doing it at your own responsibility.
It may be that you get an *softbrick *(bootloop) because Vodafone still pushing update's for their Firmware patching and upgrading the software!
To be safe please use methods given by: Androrooter and or Kirito9 !
#Rooting:
1# Download the root.apk onto your phone or SD card and install.
2# Now start the app and you will see it's all in Chinese, just click on the Root Shield Badge ontop of the screen.
3# Let it do its magic installing the scripts most likely it will auto reboot your phone without rooting it,
you must restart the root app again and click on the Badge (like done at step 2#).
~Now you are Rooted but the Superuser is Chinese and what i have noticed it's a temporary Root, if you lose root again just redo step 2#!

for root permission, you must click on the colored (grant) button to accept.
5# Download an Root browser i.e. File Manager and let it gain Root permission, if SuperSu wont ask for Root it's now save to uninstall the Chinese app.
~From now on you permanently Rooted, don't go installing/modding stuff yet until you made an systems backup!
#Twrp or Cwm Recovery (PC version):
1# Download ADB Driver and install on PC. Download from here; http://www.datafilehost.com/d/2267ab98
2# Download TWRP Setup (thanks to Dees_Troy & Yuweng) and unzip on your PC.
3# Activate USB debugging under developer mode* and connect with USB to your PC.
(done by *tapping 7 times on the build number in the about phone section)
3a# Open the Twrp setup.exe and click on the next button.
3b# Just wait till the installation is completed followed by credits.
3c# On the next window, click on yes to proceed.
3d# Select Start Easy Magic TWRP Installer for MediaTek and click on ok
3e# Click on Yes to auto port.
3f# Now make sure your phone is connected, adb driver installed and usb debugging enabled, then click on OK.
~if you get any pop up msg on your phone screen just click on yes.
Just wait for a few seconds while the setup is been completed,
if the process was successful, your phone should automatically reboot into recovery.
~Now you need to make an full backup with Twrp so that all the files are safe!

Kingroot 4.8 worked, so I ran the TWRP Setup and guess what another way to ruin the phone even further. Stuck in a boot loop now.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS GUYS GUIDE! It will most likely break your phone from start to finish!
Please provide a reset copy of your system.img and recovery.img for people who have lost their phones due to this guide, it would be very useful as the devices can be restored if adb / fastboot access can be achieved.

Well well QuantumRevenger,
Sorry to hear that this method didn't worked out nicely for you.
Maybe your firmware got upgraded and the recovery didn't stick?!
Did you try the combination Power + Vol Up while the phone is off and enter
the Recovery menu clear Cache + Dalvik after this reboot.
I can't help you with the systems files because i ditched the vodafone firmware for Vanilla 4.4.2 Android.
The only thing i can do for you is point to this thread where i moved towards myself-> MTK devices
Here you will learn an little how your MTK device works, also you can search XDA for an different Easy Magic TWRP or CTR or even Philz!

Hello RHodgett,
It most likely would work because this model bought by Vodafone for their (EU) market.
As we all know it's a cheap china phone suited for Vodafone requirements!
~Not speaking for the firmware updates they push once an while~
But rooting can be done very easy with the given root from my post or even now with the updated
Kingroot 4.8 said by QuantumRevenger. And like for the custom recovery it can get tricky mentioned by QuantumRevenger, i had no problem with this at that moment.
But i urge you to read my answer to QuantumRevenger problem from above, after that you can decide at your own risk.

Good Luck!
Thanks, I'll give this a go when the handset arrives in a few days and report back.
Can you explain how to then install the Vanilla 4.4.2 Android firmware? (or any other suitable stock firmware for the device)

No Problem & you're welcome!,
For flashing roms you need an custom recovery otherwise you can't Flash.
Nobody here is tailoring for our Vodafone branded(China) smart first 6 so you have to go where i send QuantumRevenger towards and where i am. (See post answering QuantumRevenger).
Here you can use the roms and learn more about our MTK devices in general.
For flashing roms you must install in the recovery as an zip file and then you're done!
MTK has other methodes to install but that's for advance users only.
Enjoy
&
Goodluck.
Hi, I've root using the Chinese apk and root checker says the device is rooted but I wasn't able to install SuperSU 2.46, it keeps saying the binaries need to be updated and it fails every time I update.
Rebooting using the TWRP setup just shows the Powered by android splash. I'm not sure what to do now?
Edit: Ok I've flashed a recovery from the threads you linked, finally got a bootloader working. Now to flash a ROM Got CM12.1 running, thanks!
DID not work for me
So I followed all the steps and everything seemed to work fine. The TWRP software said it was going to reboot into recovery but it is stuck at the android logo screen.
When I hold power button + up key its the same, stuck at the android screen.
When I hold power button + down key it boots into vodafone android.
I'm kind of stuck to what to do now (sorry I am really new to this)?

Darn that's a bummer! It worked for me and had everything running xposed, SuperSu etc. :/
Try another Magic installer use CWM or Phillz, they can be found here or via google.
So weird i bet Vodafone did a firmware push on there bootloader or not all EU firmwares are the same(dat would be pretty nonlogical).
Sorry for the troubles please try the above solution and report back if that fixed it.
Goodluck!

Hello Onlydongles,
for root you can use kingroot 4.8 or the given Root apk from above.
Just install like any app for Android and follow the instruction.

That's the problem. SiInce the file is in ZIP format, downloading into the SD card and then doing the Power+Vol up, and update from SD zip, gives me an aborted message.
Putting the Zip file in the Phone memory (not the sd card) just doesn't open the file, saying format not supported.(casue it is ZIP)
What am I missing? please help with a step by step idiots guide, if you can .

The root is an normal APK there are only two zip files here; the TWRP and the SuperSu.
TWRP.zip is an magic installer for your PC with the given USB drivers and Debuging turned on(See my guide).
Now SuperSu.zip can only be installed via an custom recovery like TWRP.
I'm noticing you're trying to flash without an
custom recovery?, that's an no go.
1# Root with given or Kingroot 4.8.
2# Install custom recovery TWRP, CWM or Phillz (Must be an magic installer version via PC) all these versions can be found on Xda.
3# Flash SuperSu via custom recovery and replace the first installed Root!
That's all there is to it, no deeper layers on how-to install.

Good luck!
OK got it. THe only way I could get the APK into my phone is via the phones own browser from this site. I could only move from my pc as a ZIP file only. Hence could not install. But now its done. I think I am rooted now. Root checker still says not rooted, but I can use ES file explorer and have managed to remove a few app. Does this mean it is Rooted?
Can I remove the Rooting apk from the phone now without any adverse impact?
I have also managed to load the TWRP on the SD card. IF I want to Flash a rom, how do I go about it? Can you link and stable ROM which I can use? Need a small tutorial.
AND very many mahy thanks for your support on here and input.

Okay Onlydongles,
I don't think you have Root (yet!), Es browser has an side menu.
Here you must scroll down and select Root Explorer, that's the real test if you got Rooted!
If not install Kingroot 4.8 via your phone browser.
For ROMs you have to go where I send everybody towards ->MTK Devices (link given in answers above).
Flashing ROMs is easy done by custom recovery select the downloaded ROM zip and flash with the given creator instructions B).

[GUIDE to ROOT] for new users, step by step, main aspects clarified

INTRODUCTION (don't skip it if you want understand what you are reading)
Here we are, as promised.
A guide for beginners who hardly understand all the brief steps described in guides: root Galaxy S5 G-900V, unlock-bootloaders, etc. thanks for everyone who helped me with big patience (jrkruse, Bryanx86, XeCuTioN, youdoofus and all other guys) and who developed the scripts/guides. This guide is to help you keep focusing there
I'll try to be as brief as possible, remembering me when I entered in theis world without knowing this phone, and eager of flashing quickly the desidered ROM. I admit I've spent different days and a bounch bad words around figuring out all the obstacles that appeared time by time: you should know from the beginning that a small variation of the process described here may force you start from zero, loosing an amount of time, and that there are different phone models and also with different chipset, so you need carefully understand which phone you have before learning the process or losing time with wrong experiments, they will not work.
Anyway this guide will help many figuring out different aspects of phone, useful to everyone who is appraching flash the S5, it's a collection of important things I've read arond and experimented myself.
PHONE:
I have a S5 G900V with Toshiba chipset "CID11", and I tested all the following only on this phone, for questions/explanations read this article:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370
I'm not going to give any support to other versions, but post me if I forgot something
DEFINITIONS:
PHONE: unfortunately there are a moltitude of Galaxy S5 released, they are dedicated to particular geographic areas and particular service operators, the 900V is created for Verizon brand and it has a native ROM with SIM locked. If you bought one with SIM unlocked (and you may even read under "about" it is a 900F for example! check the right one starting the download mode) and you want root it/upgrade you should consider that the first rom uploaded to begin the following process is Verizion original, and it contains SIM lock: you will not use your phone later till you flash the final desidered rom! Chances are also, if you have like I do a CID11 chipset, the SD card will stop be recognized, and that's a boring thing. EDIT: the SD card will work, it was my phone with the SD gold contacts spoiled, accurately I lift them up and sd worked always later.
CHIPSET: as I know there are two variants around, one with Chipset Sasmung "eMMC" and one with Toshiba "eMMC". Before you start you need to read the file /sys/block/mmcblk0/device/cid under the root path, the first two bytes will be 11 or 15, if you have 15 you're lucky and you may even remove the locked bootloader, if you have 11 there are not solutions yet for unlock, but you can install Marshmellow 6.0.1 (unrooted/without root). To check the file CID I suggest to install xplore from Lonelycatgames (you may find a copy around, google it and download apk, open the folder root, the path /sys/block/mmcblk0/device/ and at file cid push long and use the hex editor.
BOOTLOADER: The Verizon phones accept ROMs only containing their certificate (it's more complex but let's say it's like that), they are called stock ROM (ROMs coming from brend, original, untouched). To load other custom roms you need to unlock the Bootloader to avoid checks on certifications, and this is possible only if you have a CID 15 and only after rooting phone, and unlock bootloader. Then you will you are able to flash TWRP which is a nice console for upload any kind of rom.
Anyway, anyCID, there is a "workaround" called Safestrap that loads a TWRP console instead of the classic Android operative system (OS).. and it happens when you will reboot from its Safestrap applications: the console will load instead of Android on next reboot, and when you will reboot from Safestrap console, itself will restores Android the next boot. It's the only way to load ROMS when your CID is 11, but only very particular releases (read about down); and the way to unlock bootloader on CID15. We're waiting that someone in future will unlock also the CID11..
the "bootloader" or "download mode" can be opened only from phone switched off by pressing VolDwn+Home and when u sure u're pressing them correctly then press power keeping them pressed(!) until u see the bootloader, press then volume up.
"recovery console" or "recovery" is reached from phone switched off in the same way, but pressing Volup+Home (the power) until u see the recovery.
ROM: it's a file containing usually the kernel, the system with main applications (excluded google apps), some scripts (commands) to cancel datas before installing.
GOOGLE APPS: you have to flash them after flashed the rom (if the rom asking explicitly for them because made without (it means it doesn't contain inside any google apps that may be crucial for booting), or.. you have to flash them if you're targeting the final result (the last flash) and you want have apps updated in your "new flashed phone". It's not necessary when u're in process of root phone/unlocking.
FLASH A BOOT IMAGE/package: it's a file used to replace the bootloader, when it's needed, for example if you are upgrading from Lollipop to Marshmellow the bootloader can't stay in lollipop version, the versions should match, be sure to have both compatible already downloaded.
ROOT: it means gain the administrators privileges to edit system files on phone.
TWRP: it's a smart console to manage the phone with full control, allows to change the Android versions and many other things.
RECCOMENDATIONS:
1) have battery on phone around 100%, looks because it seems that at lower values make the phone react sometime unexpectly (power safe) during operations, that means you may loose after a lot time to figure out what problem occured/process skipped.
2) During the flashing, in download mode, the phone may not be charged from USB, and the PC power is much less powerful then the charger, you may see a quite impressive battery draining even when connected to PC, this is why is better to start near 100%.
3) During update, the USB up/downs may use lot of CPU of your PC due to driver recognition, keep then your Windows "clean" for the process, no apps in backgroud which use lot of RAM and CPU (for example browsers with many tabs opened), so the driver detection could be faster, avoid programming interruptions (for example installing apps in root.bat)
NOTICE: any time u'll use Odin you don't need to change its flags/settings (for example auto reboot), leave them as they are. If you uploaded something wrong/not certifed under download mode and the phone refuses that, you need to switch off the phone and restart in download mode again, it's not up to software Odin in your PC; you can leave it opened.
Odin will check the checksum of files that are loaded, so for big rom files you have to be patient and give it time to read all file.
When Odin is open and USB connected, you have to see the phone connected by COM, if it doesn't connect the phone may be bricked or you have to install the latest Samsung drivers (!! **you can't forget installing them if it's the first time using a Samsung device!!)
HOW IT WORKS:
useful to understand how is reached the goal here to prevent bricks, solve easier problems, find yourself an overcome. This root kit targets to install 3 applications on the phone, then use a temporary "bricked" kernel to allow edit system files and root the phone before it loads all Android, then restore the previous kernel working, and it ends by using applications installed before to install Safestrap into boot, to have a TWRP console even if the phone is locked.
As the Safestrap substitute the normal Android boot, if there is any problem on the process (=Safestrap will not boot when it's supposed to boot = you started it from its application) the phone may brick here, because when Safestrap stars it need to restore Android normal usage: if it will hapen the Android won't load again, the phone is bricked, read in that section how to solve it.
The first application, Kingoroot,it's made for allow the root permission into other two applications, it's a supervisor. If you use it gently and its installation succeded ok in the beginning of root.bat it will be enough for do all the job (even if the main Guide author suggest to buy SuperSUme).
Busybox it's a software that allows Safestrap to install, whothout it Safestrap won't work.
Safestrap it's a simple application, that if used in right way (I failed lot of times, but I always recovered my phone) permits to have a powerful console on next reboot.
IMPORTANT:
Whne in process, wait always that the USB drivers finishing detecting phone and become "stable" (CPU and hard disk aren't working, keep check them to be sure, as well the icon of the phone should appear in Windows resouces). You may need to start from zero if u miss this, a really stupid reason to lose time.
FILES YOU NEED:
G900VVRU2BPB1_G900VVZW2BPB1_G900VVRU2BPB1_HOME.tar.md5 as the main old rom, that works as starting point.
OK3_ROOT_V5.exe: set of tools and scripts for rooting.
Find them all in the first post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370
PROCEDURE:
1) Open OK3_ROOT_V5.exe in one folder, if you use windows with particular language and not latin chars avoid to extract it on desktop, prefer a path like C:\galaxy for example.
2) Switch off phone, remove SIM card and SD, switch on in recovery mode and wipe data system and cache, then boot to bootloader
2) open Odin, open under AP G900VVRU2BPB1_G900VVZW2BPB1_G900VVRU2BPB1_HOME.tar.md5 and wait until it finished read file, connect phone USB, be sure phone is recognized, start flashing. Wait until phone boots, wait until it shows the beginning screen.
3) choose english, then wi fi button down, then skip the connetcion and everything else asked, insert any fake name.
4) When setup ends don't activate Wi fi, go to settings, about, press 8 times build number, get the development menu active, go into it and enable usb debug, wait for popup and allow your PC always, then disable the verify usb application installation in the same menu. The driver may set itself again after this, wait some seconds befor go over and be sure the phone is seen by Windows resources, when you see the icon of the phone on Windows file explorer and the CPU is low again it's time to run root.bat, not before! Go into OK3_ROOT folder, run root.bat, a black old DOS window will open (this is not Odin! Not confuse this window and what you read there with Odin messages, please!) and follow the steps you read in this new DOS window..
it will install apps, reboot in download mode and show you a new Odin window, select NK2_kernel.tar and flash it, now put your eyes over DOS window of root.bat, it should recognize your firmware and after some seconds display a full page of ########, if it doesn't something went wrong, you need to go to recovery console, wipe everything, and flash again the main big flash (=start from zero).
If succeed, and you will read it in the DOS window, as the last step, you have to disconnect USB, pull battery, switch phone on in download mode and flash VZW_BOK3_KERNEL_ONLY.tar with Odin
5) After reboot open KingRoot application already installed, Click The Up Arrows a couple of time until you get to Try It and yes click Try It, then on the main circle, go back with arrow and you will have confirm that is rooted. Close Kingroot, open busybox free app, allow the root access, click on install (even if it start scannig) and wait some seconds, when it say it completed close it. Open Safestrap, allow root, click on install, the app will quit itself, open it again and click on install, it will quit again. Now reboot phone by the power key, hen rebooted open again Safestrap and now you'll be finally ready to click on the button "Reboot to recovery". Before doing it be ready to organize the next step, like files for unlocking bootloader or flashing a locked phone to 6.0.1.
END rooting phone procedure.
BRICK/RECOVERY: if it happens during root, before you upload any other ROM, there may be three ways to solve that:
Pull the battery out (it's almost safe) and:
1) Light: go under download mode and flash VZW_BOK3_KERNEL_ONLY.tar, see if the phones later boot up normally.
Chances are, with "dirty" chache data that lead the phone to brick, you can't start the root.bat procedure again succesfully (use root2.bat to avoid the install of the three applications that supposed already installed). Then you may try to:
2) medium: go under recovery console, wipe data and cache, boot fom there to download mode and flash again VZW_BOK3_KERNEL_ONLY.tar.
Or, if still not successful:
3) Strong: go under recovery console, wipe data and cache, boot fom there to download mode and flash flash full G900VVRU2BPB1_G900VVZW2BPB1_G900VVRU2BPB1_HOME.tar.md5 (that means start from zero)
SAFESTRAP WORLD:
WARNING: you should follow at the letter the above process above, any difference may result in a fail of Safestrap recovery to open and phone bricked at samsung logo (+custom). If so don't worry, you have just to start the download mode and flash VZW_BPB1_KERNEL_ONLY.tar.md5 again to see the phone working. But chances you probably now have to repeat all the procedure from zero because your phone is "dirty" and Safestrap won't work more, proceed to what I called "strong" reflashing in brick section.
NOTICE: when you reboot to Safestrap, after Samsung logo, you need to wait 5-10 seconds to see Safestrap.
FLASH FIRE METHOD:
You may prefer to use FF (Flash Fire) to flash your room, it is a app (apk) that needs t be installed on phone when the phone works in normal mode, it allows you to create a list of different "orders" to execute exactly one after the other after you give it the final "ok". The app reboot the phone and starting itself to flash. It may be faster then Safestrap, but when I tried once it didn't work for me, it flashed partially and rebooted before it finished, I had a soft brick and I should restart from zero. Probably it was me pretending to flash something wrong, there is only one way to upload 6.0.1 on a CID11 phone and I did only once with Safestrap.
For dealing with FF you need the phone rooted, after you followed the process above you don't need to install Busybox, neither Safestrap, but you need to find and install SuperSUme.apk, which is another "root manager" program as Kingoroot is, but FF doesn't work with Kingoroot.
After loading kingoroot copy the Flashfire apk and SuperSUme in your phone, install both of them, start first SuperSUme, allow the root, and let it remove Kingoroot in its procedure, when it finished launch FF and let him the root as well.
You need to find these two apk, google them, since SUperSUme is available only paying you should know what you are doing. I used these versons and they worked: supersume-6.0.apk, flashfire-0-50-android-apk-download (notice there is 0.52, but I tested 0.50)
PS: if you feel this useful, please thank me pressing the button
For uploading 6.0.1 to my locked phone I folowed this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...t/rd-unlocking-galaxys-s5-bootloader-t3337909
I would just add that having the SD card "not recognized" I simply copied files of ROM and GAPPS into the phone folder accessed by Windows resources. And when I reboot to Safestrap I flashed as last step the GAPPS, nothing more to add.
When you wipe Data you actually don't delete the /sdcard folder, so the ROM files are safe there.
if you accidentally delete files under safestrap you can upload them by adb, but it will be really slow (around 500KB/s), here is the command: adb push /path/to/local/filename.zip /sdcard/filename.zip
You may evaluate to flash also this before GAPPS:
Tethering_Fix_Knox_Removal_Slight_Debloat_V2.zip to remove Knox and useless apps from this ROM
If you need to put your default system language (the ROM is in english) download from google MoreLocale 2, open a DOS windows with the path to the folder of root.bat, activate the developer menu (point N°4 of post above), connect the USB, and type
pm grant jp.co.c_lis.ccl.morelocale android.permission.CHANGE_CONFIGURATION
Do you know any details about the new pf4 modem?
no, Im not that expert, here is just a guide to help people into the process..
thank you for the great guide. I was able to root my phone with the clear instruction.
However, I am running into one trouble.
When my phone is setting up the language and etc, it requires me to insert sim or wifi. I can't skip that step without doing one or the other. When I do turn on the wifi, the phone then upgrades itself to android 5.0 but the root is still there. I am using T-mobile sim card.
Is there a way to get around the check up? I made sure to follow all the steps correctly too.
if u're talking about the first beginning steps, after the first big ROM loaded, yes you can skip. Select wi fi button, but after skip all the rest. I've never had to connect to internet or inserted a sim card for the process.
I connected/inserted sim only after the flash to desidered rom

Very informative read, and also put in plain english for people that dont understand the usual processes for root, in layman's terms. Seems like the file name for OK3_ROOT_V5.exe changed. They call it GS5_LOLLIROOT.tar.gz now (must unzip twice to get all the files) but I looks like what is needed is in this zipped file.
Might take the plunge tomorrow so wish me luck, and thanks again for the explanation!
By "run root.bat" in point 4 do you mean "3 - Root Process.bat"?
Thanks for clarifications
Barabba11,
Since you seems to have a genuine desire of helping people, (and because I want to have my phone rooted), I want to comment your instructions and also try to find what I did wrong, since my phone is locked in the black “Samsung Galaxy S5” screen when trying to accomplish step 4 (no worries, I have been there before…).
Here I go…
FILES YOU NEED
Samsung Drivers: No comments here, straight forward thing to accomplish.

From the same previously mentioned post, now under “Rooting Instructions”:
1. Download this zip GS5_LOLLIROOT_BLACKCAT.7z

This is what you get today (161108) if you download and unzip that file:
Then, under “crc” folder you will find:
And finally, “System” folder is empty.
At this stage my series of comments:
1. I don’t see anything called OK3_ROOT_V5.exe mentioned in step 4 of your procedure. I assume you’re referring to the zipped file GS5_LOLLIROOT_BLACKCAT.7z but since almost every suggestion here indicates to read thoroughly, I don’t want to miss any detail. Can you please confirm if what you call OK3_ROOT folder is the unzipped GS5_LOLLIROOT_BLACKCAT.7z?
2. I don’t see anything called root.bat in the unzipped folders above, mentioned in the same step 4. Can you confirm which one of the .bat files are you referring to? Is it 1 - Install APK's.bat, 2 - Flash NK2.bat, 3 - Root Process.bat or 4 - Flash PB1.bat?
Since my phone got stuck in the black screen when reaching this point and I had to get back to square 1, I’ll wait for comments.
Warmest regards, it is really appreciated what you do here, it is just my humble opinion that detailed instructions in plain English, with proper file names, punctuation etc, would save this world a lot of time and frustration, leaving you developers more time to deal with the important stuff, I’ll be happy to help rewriting or reviewing anything in this regard.
PD: Not sure if the images are going to appear, I don't see them in the preview. If that's the case, you can check here
This thread is out of date since the rooting method has entirely been changed
Can you please indicate where can I find the updated method? Rgds
I'm sorry for the inconvenience, since they changed the main files I'm disoriented too. If they removed the bat files it means everything is different now, and honestly I'm hearing now about that..
Would know too why they changed the process, it was working, complicated but working, and I still have my phone at unrooted Android 6 waiting for a major update, like root or Android7.. I don't have enough time to experiment something that may appear useless for me later.
Anyway reading the instructions may warn you about different aspects to consider.. and reduce the waste of time if some conditions happened.
Kindly write in this thread they way you proceed and I'll have care to edit the first post reminding it. Thank you
Great thread, need some help still
How do I check my chipset when I don't have root access? I downloaded xplore but I need root access to check the root folder.
go into the xplore settings and change the root inside, I've no-rooted phone and I can see it. In the beginning, it's just a way for them to push you install rooting apps
If I root my S5 900V using this method can I then reflash it with 4.4.2?

[Rom][Rooted_ALL_Carriers_Nougat_S8+BRB1_SafeStrap][SamFail][V5 Bootloaders]

My method is a little different than the actual SamFAIL method so please to tell me it says this in their thread. I feel my procedure is the best method for the S8+ and this method may not work on the other models so please follow there own set of directions. This method allows you to obtain root by simply flashing a modified system.img using only odin. These images include all carrier files and will work on all carriers. These roms should be stable and you can probably just use these as your daily rom.
What Is Safestrap
Safestrap is a Bootstrap / Recovery for locked bootloader phones. Safestrap is now based on TWRP Recovery (a touch based recovery) and you can perform .zip installs, backups and restores here.

This thread is simply to get you rooted with a working rom.
This thread is not a rom request or features request.
If you dont like the rom that this method installs then install whatever you want.
Yes the 80 percent battery bug is still present in this method.
The screen gets a funny tint every once in awhile simple turn screen off and back on. This is not roms fault it is Eng Combo Firmware.
Sometimes FlashFire fails to achieve root or gets stuck acquiring root. A reboot usually fixes it sometimes it takes a couple reboots.
Kernel panics happen and will cause your phone to reboot to upload mode. If this happens simple hold the keys to reboot to download mode then from there reboot phone.
This is system root so safetynet apps will not work nor will samsung apps like Pay, Secure Folder, Pass. There is no work around
All Credit Goes To The SamFAIL Team their original thread can be found here
Any donations should directed to themFirst and foremost, SHOUTOUTS!

Create your own system.img.ext4 odin flashable image
If you want to make a odin flashable system.img of your phones system image
Download
S8_Backup_System_Image.zip
MD5_TAR_TOOL.zip
FSTRIM Apk
Directions
Copy S8_Backup_System_Image.zip to phone
Unzip MD5_TAR_TOOL.zip on your computer
Install FSTRIM Apk on your phone
Run Fstrim and select system to trim
Once system trimmed use flashfire choose add zip and choose S8_Backup_System_Image.zip DO NOT MOUNT system when it ask
Click flash
This will take several minutes when phone reboots you should have a folder on your internal storage named System_Img_Backup and inside should be a system.img.ext4 file around 4.59 gig
Copy the system.img.ext4 file and place it in the MD5_TAR_TOOL. folder on your computer and place it in the Place_Files_Here folder
Run the ImgToTar.MD5.bat inside the MD5_TAR_TOOL. folder on your computer
This process will take 10 to 20 minutes to complete
Once done there will be a folder in the MD5_TAR_TOOL. folder on your computer called AP_SYSTEM_IMG_PART_1 and inside that folder will be a AP_SYSTEM_IMG_PART_1.tar.md5 which will contain your system.img from your phone
Just replace the Above AP..._PART_1 file with your newly created AP_SYSTEM_IMG_PART_1.tar.md5 and follow procedure in port 1 and now you can flash your system.img in odin its good if you bootloop your phone with a mod or something

Wouldn't you want it that way. WiFi calling and all that volte won't work if your phone is XAA. Your rooted delete your bloat

Your not trying to use encrypted storage are you? Other than that dont know what to tell you I have no problems with my 128 gig sd card
So i been running same fw no issues after the csc reset maybe I triggered it by going thru settings disabling apps

No. No encryption. I just wanted to state I'm not saying I don't appreciate your rom still please don't take it that way.
If your 128 works, can you link me which one you're using? I'll snag it off Amazon quick

So what does it do? Reboot to upload mode when you insert It? Or just not read it?

The phone will randomly read it. Like I can play a song for a minute or 30 seconds then it stops and I get the symbol at the top that says an SD card was inserted. The same when I'm trying to pull stuff off of or put stuff on... It will work for a little bit then unmount itself and remount. I saw that Google play may have something to do with it (other forums) but I've been trying to run traces on it to see and so far I don't see any error messages.

Yes. And checking it for errors and formatting it on other phones and formatting it on my computer. Everything else except this phone seems to accept it.
