Screen sensitivity - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone else notice the screen isn't as sensitive as some of the other devices? Just got mine in the mail off swappa (moving from the s4) and making sure its actually a difference in the phone not a defect in this phone. Thanks!

Hi,sirhoover..Reminds me of your Joker rom in Atrix HD. ?
It's been a long time and now you're back to Moto again..?
I think my Razr Maxx HD screen sensitivity is as good as my previous phones. Maybe it's more sensitive with CM-based rom. I haven' t tried custom rom coz I am stucked with latest stock JB and lock bootloader. ?
Hopefully next OTA with Kitkat will bring it back to life.

Haha I loved that ROM. Matt Groff saved my life more than once while I was building that/bricking my phone. Yea man I am getting used to it and now I think its just a bit different so it messed with me at first lol. Back on moto man and I don't plan on switching. I "downgraded" to this phone from the s4. This phone is better for sure! Battery life and mine is unlocked....can't beat it!

Yeah..all those Verizon bloatware might cause lagging for a while. I'm pretty sure CM-based ROM is faster and enjoyable.
You're lucky getting an unlocked one. Joker ROM for Razr HD sounds great.

Went from a doer to a reader....

I don't know about anybody else, but when I had my captivate, I would frequent these boards and download just about any ROM I could get my hands on for the quest for a better phone.
Since getting the Inspire a week ago, it seems as though now I frequent the forums just to read. I have no ambition to have anything but the stock ROM because it is just that pleasant to use.
In fact, I really don't even think I want to root.....not really much of a need anymore other that Titanium backup and easy sideloading.
This is the first smartphone I have been truly pleased with out of the box.
If I could get the wifi hotspot to work consistently I think I would skip the root too. I am coming from a bone stock Nexus one. I really like vanilla android, but Sense does add a nice touch.

Ya What he said! Just rember to reboot everytime you change your apn. it works great and from the testing i have done and speaking with ATT they cant tell the difference..
Agreed, but
I loved this phone out of the box, but i have to tinker. It is a problem i have. I rooted and have tried just about every ROM out there. Nothing is quite as good as stock, but there are some really good ones out.
If you are happy with your phone, i say leave it. But if you want to root, this phone should be great as the devs start working with source and cooking up great ROMS and kernels.
The only tinkering I want to do now is theming. I will patiently wait for someone to deodex the stock Rom.

[Q] Thinking of making the switch

I'm sure this has been asked before but I didn't see it so please be gentle lol. I currently own the Atrix and am on like 27 days. It is rooted and has a "ROM" on it with the webtop hack installed. I am starting to have a bitter taste in my mouth due to Motorola and their locked bootloaders. This is my first Android device and I am kind of let down I think because of it.
I had the Inspire for a brief period before all the ROMs were around and the thing that made me return the phone was the battery life and the low volume speaker. Have these things been addressed by roms and overclocking/underclocking and a speaker boost? I'd like to be able to enjoy the true Android experience and it seems that if I keep the Atrix I won't have that at all. I like the Atrix but it definately is being limited by the locked bootloader and the lack of developer support for it due to motorola being the way they are.
Thanks in advance guys!
Well designngears turned in his Atrix and now has an HTC Inspire so to me that's enough said lol. I have awesome battery life on the rom and kernel below and I'm over clocked at 1.5 Ghz . I have never owned an Atrix but I love my inspire and now that DG is here I'm highly excited

Well I haven't flashed any custom roms yet personally, but it appears that at least some of them do improve battery life to some degree, though battery life probably isn't going to be perfect no matter what you do.
How the phone is used really impacts battery life. The screen on the inspire seems to really be the battery-killer, from my experience.
As far as the sound, there's a least one fix, for the "tinny" issue, I'm not sure if it fixes the volume. I'm sure someone with more rom experience will likely chime in.
In any case, I'm on pretty close to day 27 as well, of my inspire, and I have absolutely no desire to switch to an atrix...
The thing is, as you can see by the proliferation of roms for the inspire, things are at least *possible* with this phone. That alone should be enough to convince you.

Thanks for the reply guys. I'm "new" to Android its been about a month total using Android. Not sure what CM7 Nightlies means. I know CM7 is a ROM that puts Gingerbread on the device correct? But nightly does that imply you have to flash your phone every night with an update making you lose all your stuff? I think I'm going to make the switch. Going to flash the retail SBF back at lunch brining the phone back to stock and hopefully AT&T will allow me to switch since it hasn't been 30 days with the Atrix yet.
As far as the low volume, that is some thing that can be and is being fixed. Since our Devs. can fix this in the kernel, it shouldn't be that big of a problem. I am on a stock rooted rom with OC and a 20% bump in audio levels.
And no, with nightlies you don't have to do a full wipe. Just install it over the other rom using CWM and it should be good.

Sounds good. Hopefully rooting this will be as easy as rooting the Atrix was. I know you need a Gold Card and other stuff but hopefully it's not too bad for a noob for the most part haha.
It's not to tough! I did it the first day I go it, no problems what so ever. Just look at Attn1's hack kit, follow the steps. If you can follow directions well it easy! Plus there are a lot of people on here that will help you!

did you implement the boost for the external speaker only? or did you increase output for the in-call/earpiece volume as well. would appreciate a link to your kernel as well. i'm currently using the latest Desire S port for the Desire HD and the cm7-inspire-audiofix-r1.zip (to restore stock audio) and the speaker output is much louder compared to the stock Inspire ROM. in-call audio appears to be louder as well (although could be placebo). my standard is the audio boost incorporated on the Nexus 1 (post 65, post 71 and post 85); don't know if this is possible, but it made a huge difference.

New to Samsung GS3

Ive been an htc and sprint user for ever and i finally switched to verizon and got me the samsung gs3
i know this device is new so development is just getting started.
I hope to see some awesome roms on this phone
cause right now stock i dont like it at all...
im not a fan of touchwiz at all
what is the the go to rom at the moment for this phone
I am actually running stock rom on my phone but theres a thread for CM10 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788443
Though I see lots of people posting issues, so I've been staying away from it, and looking into the Touchwiz ROMS more.
I think one of the biggest ways to make touchwiz feel more like stock android experience is to use Apex or Nova launcher.

I am looking into getting the GS3 sometime this week as a Bday gift to myself. Turned 31 today and I am damned tired of my iphone. I had the Moto X2 and I hated it. I was always having to reboot the phone because of lag or it just freezing up. I went to the iphone to get away from this. I had read that because the X2 was one of the 1st duel core phones, there were a lot of issues. The GS3 being a quad core, there is almost zero lag and one of thos issues.
I knw this doesn't relate to the topic and I am sorry. Just really happy to be getting the GS3 to go with my Samsung Tab 2

The international version is the only version of GSIII with quad core. The US variants are dual core S4 (only processor that combined LTE) which benchmark quite favorably against quad core. Just clarifying because this is the Verizon model's thread were discussing this in.
Welcome to the GSIII either way! Overall, this phone has been great for me in almost every capacity.

I just switched from iPhone, I love it. It's so fast you could just run an alternate launcher if you dislike TouchWiz, there's no performance hit. I consider rooting essential for everyday apps but beyond experimentation I have no deep desire to flash a ROM. I'd like Jelly Bean but it's the fastest ICS device I've used even with a skin on it.

Only the Verizon version has any issues with ROMs. The locked bootloader makes custom kernels difficult; you have to bypass it using the kexec method and all this convoluted bull****.
If you want a custom ROM that's relatively easy to get, use a stock ROM like Synergy or Beans. I believe there's a holo theme for Synergy that makes the phone look like stock. Search around the Themes&Apps forum. Personally, I use Synergy 1.7, which has been pretty great.

People are working on getting the bootloader unlocked, but honestly I don't see it happening unless the FCC forces Verizon to do so. Flashing roms isn't that difficult really, but it's certainly not as easy as it was on my OG Moto Droid. Kexec is a workaround which I'm somewhat thankful for I guess. The main problem is there are currently many scary complications that can occur just from flashing any of these non TW roms right now. These problems aren't Verizon S3 specific I hear.
Personally I don't think CM/AOKP etc is worth flashing right now because of kexec and the possibility of losing IMEI/data. Yes the IMEI can be backed up or restored, but what a hassle. I flashed a CM10 nightly and then my data randomly died forever 10 minutes later. Flashing to stock/anything else was useless. Luckily reprovisioning my phone fixed the problem, but if it didn't..
I'm hoping that CM and stuff will be stable/safe within the next month or two but who knows? Verizon probably won't release JB until December or later on the S3.

Agreed. There's still a bit of work that needs to happen in CM10...particularly it dropping data coverage without warning.

CM10?

On the CyanogenMod website I don't see much CM10 support for Motorola devices :/ Do you guys think there will be a CM based ROM for this phone eventually?
Cm10 is even on the X2 so I'd assume so. Hope so at least. Give it some time.

I'm hoping that many people are still waiting for this device to pick up, and hopefully its a large amount. If the devs get on this, I'll be a real happy dude. I loved CM9 on my Droid X, so if CM makes a comeback on this, you can bet I'll flash it.
However the phone just came out, so I can't see it happening soon. Maybe after a bit.
From what I've heard at least a few known devs are picking one up. With root and SBF files already leaked, I'd say this phone is on it's way.

I think CM10 would fly on this device. Would make it very popular since it has such an amazing battery. I would flash it on my Maxx HD in a heartbeat. Would make it my daily driver too.

Yes blaming Samsung, because I still have problems with their stock TouchWhiz ROMs. I would never judge a phone by it's lack of development. I only play with AOSP ROMs in the weekends, then restore my Nandroid of TouchWhiz through the week for work. I still drop more calls with this phone then I think I should, I even had it replaced because I thought I had bad hardware.

its samsung cdma, they write crappy radios. the sprint epic 4g touch (the SGS2 variant) had a brand new feature called LOS, loss of signal, where your phone would lose signal and never alert you or anything. you had to toggle airplane mode when you discovered it to get it back to working.
I haven't tested it very much but my Razr HD definitely has better voice clarity than any of my previous phones, most recently a Galaxy Nexus. I AM having strange intermittend wifi issues though. It seems like my wifi connection will randomly just drop off to almost nothing or disconnect entirely. Then it'll jump back up to a good strong connection again. This happens when it's laying down, when I'm holding it, etc.
Anyway, I'm hoping this phone will get good developer support, it's got all the right features. Or, the international version does at least.
Is the original razr unlockable? If not, I'm sure it would be pretty quick to get things figured out. For now we need BSR though. Do we have any devs that at least have this phone? And are willing to cracked this thing open.

THIS MAKES ME TINGLY. I'm ready to get a new phone, my galaxy S 1 has seen over 9000 (what, 9000?) ROM flashes and kernels and CWM and Odin and all that jazz... if the Maxx HD is ready to get that same ez-update framework, I am ready to get one right now.
the XDA community is just amazing. it has extended the GS1 to be competitive even into the LTE era.
Hopefully the Maxx HD is worthy of the XDA devs, it sure looks like a viable option right now - it passes the preliminary geek tests, right!?!?

its samsung cdma, they write crappy radios. the sprint epic 4g touch (the SGS2 variant) had a brand new feature called LOS, loss of signal, where your phone would lose signal and never alert you or anything. you had to toggle airplane mode when you discovered it to get it back to working.

Im on my 3rd Galaxy nexus for signal issues. My Day 1 has horrible issues now, and every VZW replacement has had issues, purple screen and now this one has a power button sunken into the chassis..... Ill never buy a samsung again
I've built recovery's before, but not BSR style. I'm researching it now. I have a cwm image built, but have to figure out how to use it for BSR.
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will beat me to it, but if not, I'm working on it.

Quiet here .. odd

For a device with an unlocked BL I find this subforum to be extremely quiet. Even the Motorola Bionic forum (where I came from) is buzzing with posts compared to here, and that phone has a locked bootloader and is ancient by today's cell phone age standards.
Is it just too new? The phone has been on the market for what, 6 months? What's the hangup here?
I think people are still skidish on the whole process and don't want to brick a $800 device, as for me I just don't want Motorola to know that I have modified the device therefore nullifying my warranty lol.

I arrived here 3 weeks back they had just recently got the BL unlocked there were just a few builds going and bring maintained at that time it has increased much since then still it's hard to get any answers in the threads sometimes but it's send to be getting much better with more folks joining in, and an increase in development

Yeah I've been checking them almost everyday since I got the phone and I would say that they are definetly advancing in the right direction, but I think once everything becomes more stable and reassuring that more people will get into it.

I prefer to wait and see how Motorola play their updates before I jump into unlocking, rooting and roming. Currently we're almost on the most current version of Android and it works pretty well. If motorola decide to update us to 4.2 or 4.3 then I'll be happy to stick with that for quite a while. If they come out and say that 4.1 will be the end for us, then I'll seriously consider unlocking and reflashing then. I'm not that interested in 4.2, but I would really hope that we see a 4.3 update. Especially since the Razr HD is their flagship device when 4.3 is announced.
I did the same thing with my previous Defy. When moto announced that 2.2 was it for the Defy, I bypassed the bootloader and flashed CM7, then CM9, then CM10. It was over 12 months old at that stage, anyway.
I definitely won't be doing anything within the first 12 months of owning the phone to keep my warranty. After that I'll play it by ear...

Why in the wide world of sports did they move your thread. You didn't ask a question. You didn't ask for help. And you sure didn't need troubleshooting.
This place is so slow the mods are bored.
Lol I went from the Note 2, which development there is hopping, to this simply because I needed extra cash and a smaller screen. I'd say give it time because the bootloader unlock hack is only a month old. I heard kernels are in development as we speak.

Speaking of which...have there been any guesses on when the kernels might happen?
I just got my Razr HD Maxx, and I LOVE the phone. It is nice to have something that doesnt insanely drain a batter after coming from my Galaxy Nexus. Of course I am missing the robust dev community, but as long as a good kernel gets made all my favs (AOKP, CM 10.1, Liquid) are all in the works and almost ready to go. i can't wait!
I hope now that the bootloader is unlocked and root achieved on 4.1.2 that more devs decide to grab one of these. I scored a really great deal on one on craigslist .

I'm not sure. I just know because other people have said so. Also, the Droid Razr HD can last a day for me with 4 hour on screen time lol
Yeah I agree. With the packages created by @drbliss making this baby 'mine' was easy as pie. I think the only thing easier was running z4root on my Driod X lol
I found myself awkwardly scared to try out a new rom the other day. In the prior days I could just SS it, and it was easy. I have become so used to it that it acted as a safety net for me. Unless someone else comes up with some sort of dual boot system I'm hesitant to flash something. Funny how that works lol
I'm sure I"ll get over it

I forgot to mention but DroidTh3ory has several ROMs and a custom kernel on his DroidHive website. Everyone on that forum seems really happy and excited for the Axiom Rom which, from what I've read, has a TON of customization options. He has a new Axiom build up every freakin' day lol
http://droid-hive.com/index.php?/forum/455-roms/
EDIT: Found more ROMs lol You just gotta dig ya know? http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/forum/99-droid-razr-hd-roms-xt926/
Yeah, I guess the times way back when XDA was the place to be for stuff like this is, well, over huh.

Nope it's not over its a per device thing. Some forums have more gs3 users then others etc. Also if you notice xda has more of a global community than the other forums and the hd is a majority I'd USA phone based on sales. There are some roms here some on rootz some on droidrzr and some on the hive.I think the community has really taken off since unlock was found. It's not as crazy as the nexus or gs3 forums but that's due to motos traditionally being locked devices and having limited dev support from awesome people like hash and dh. I think a lot more devs are interested in the device now even if they don't personally own one.
