Worst flagship cellphone ? - General Questions and Answers

Well my coworkers and I were having a discussion about what we thought about all the flagship phones that have been a real let down in certain categories.
Such as:
1: build quality
2: poor internals
3: bad user interface
And well we all concluded that although we like Samsung products the Galaxy S4 was a let down for us. Not to say we hate it, since 4 out of 10 of my coworkers have Galaxy S3s and 4s. But they stated they would have either A: not have got any Samsung product or B: just get a case. Which in turn asks the question, why do I need to buy a case so that my phone doesn't feel cheap ?(feel not price since we all know they are not cheap)
Now I want to here your opinions on what you consider the worst or biggest let down flagship phone.
I don't want people flaming each other for their opinions and I think if were old enough to get cellphones were old enough to converse like adults.
Begin.

Evo 3D, HTC & Sprint abandoned this phone before they even released it lol, & to this day I still think about all that could've been good for it if they would've gave it the attention & support like they did for the OG Evo.

These threads have a tendency to start going badly, so just a reminder to keep things polite and civil. That being said:

Man that phone's build quality was horrible. It's the only phone I've ever owned that started falling apart and it was never even close to abused. No nicks, dents or scratches, but the camera bezel kept falling off and eventually the front bezel started separating from the rest of the body, and it had a truly awful camera. I used it less than a year.

I had the same problem on mines too with the front bezel hanging half off & I only had the phone for 6 months then before it was stolen from my job & Asurion ended up giving me an Epic 4G Touch to replace my Evo 3D.

Google ... another mess???

I was really excited when I heard the rumours about the nexus S along with 2.3.
Now it's been released I am extremely disappointed. It is no different from the Samsung galaxy S, which in my opinion was not a good device to start with, with it's cheap plastic design, lag problems and GPS issues etc. They even dropped the SD card slot which was the final nail in the coffin for me. Didnt implement hspa+ and dropped the bluetooth 3.0.
So for now i'll be sticking to my HTC desire with a custom 2.3 rom when it becomes available.
I suppose 2.3 comes with some welcomed features but we will have to wait till honeycomb to see the full UI update i guess.
What are your thoughts? Will the nexus S be your next device?
Let me know what you think.
I don't know but HTC is also full of problems too, i hope people realize that HTC uses cheap crap into their phones, the nexus one's awful touch screen, tiny speakers, dust under the screen, power button problems. I don't understand why people praise HTC so much i mean their warranty isn't stellar, having to send your phone for 3 weeks isn't very appealing.
Galaxy S to start with is already a better phone than the nexus one, the GPS works and everything works in the vibrant.

My thoughts are that people who complain about Google not releasing the phone of their dreams have missed the point of the Nexus S
I think:
No SD card= no problem, It's a phone after all guys, if you need music I would get an iPod, I use Pandora or groove shark anyways...I can't even fill my 8Gb card as it is!
Plastic Build= This is not a problem for me either because it's googles phone, i bet it will feel solid after all and I like the classy black gloss look so im biased anyways...
No HSPA+ = I don;t think many people are actually getting up to the 7mb anyways, but in the near future I think T mobile will be updating it to a whopping 21Mb so this is a bit upsetting but I only get edge at my house anyways so I'm okay with this too
This is the ONLY fully supported GOOGLE PHONE as of now remember. The nexus one is slowly dying
That's why I will have mine on the 16th!
Not sure why so many people complain about the Galaxy S line of phones. I have the Fascinate and I am not getting lag, the plastic case is plenty durable, my GPS also works fine.

EXACTLY i held a fascinate and it felt so solid! I just don't understand it....and HSPA+? You can still get up to 7.2 MB, but that isn't good enough? I mean that flies on my Nexus one already! I dont need any more speed.

would you have perferred WalMart?
lets keep it real, GOOGLE missed on the N1 because you couldnt walk into a national retailer, touch it, feel it, try it.
Best Buy Mobile is one of the best places to get a smartphone if not the best, they certainly have the most and best prices. rebates anyone? any retailer is going to have idiots who dont know what theyre talking about...trust me it would be worst in a WalMart, Shack, or Target for example.

I'm not praising HTC at all. I don't agree that HTC uses cheap crap in their phones. HTC's design and build quality is one of the best in the industry. I do agree no phone is perfect, Some HTC's do have problems like the lack of a good quality speaker and the multi-touch issues on the N1. However the new HTC line up looks promising such as the G2/desire z and desire HD etc.
When I was playing on my friends galaxy S I did notice the lag issue and GPS problems. To me the actual build quality seemed cheap. However I will say, great processor and internal hardware, with that gorgeous AMOLED screen. That's just my experience of the device.

I think you might be missing the point I am trying to make.
I wasn't expecting the phone of my dreams, far from it. My point is that the specs are almost identical to that of the galaxy S. With exception to the NFC and gyro of course.
The reason why expandable memory is a deal breaker for me, amongst other things, is the fact they are removing a feature, I know for some people this will be fine, but it reminds me of the iphone and how apple removes basic features, in their closed system.
The nexus S could have been great, but it was rushed for release just for the Christmas season.
Above all that here in the UK its going to cost a whopping £550 on launch day!
I think the nexus S will be fine for most, but there's nothing revolutionary about it.
The last I heard about a "revolutionary" phone was from steve job's mouth. Just sayin. I don't think google is saying this is a revolutionary device. Nexus named phone just means its Google's baby.
Some people just have too much expectation.

I don't agree on making a general comment like HTC rocks and Samsung sucks or vice versa. In gadgets world, you have to take each product and review it as it is. About build quality , I have a cheap Samsung slide phone and it has been taking some awful falls for a while, on hard floors and streets and although it's fully made of plastic, it amazed me how it's still holding up with just scratches and it's performing just like the first day I got it. There is no one device that can fit all people, everyone has something to look for in his phone. For me, NS fits me the most now. You might have some other specifications that you are looking for too, so this might not be your phone.
Couple of key points for me...
Not realy '****ed' up per se, just dropped the ball on a couple of points:
NO HSPA+= No purchase for me, my next phone has to have it (currently with HD2)
No HD video recording. WTF!? I'm sure someone will unleash it in a custom ROM or hack, but off the bat, just plain doopid!
I was almost there until I found out those 2 points. I'd rather get a MyTouch 4G.

No 4G, No HD Video, No SD Slot. These are staples in current cell phones. Is it that hard for google to put in a phone? NO PURCHASE.

So i bought a Samsung phone which isn't that bad until i started finding out the faults! The problems that i came a cross were the fact gps was poor and so was the network, yet apart from that the phone is not that bad. nevertheless I am going to get a replaced for a sensation so is that good or a bad idea?

I wouldn't go that far calling it the greatest lol. But he has a point they are good phones. If your network is poor it night be the carrier itself. At least SGS2 is quadband 3G/UMTS/HSPA
None of us can speak for the things that matter to you. The things that make us love the device might not matter to you. Try it and decide for yourself.

its all personal preference. i would say that even though i have the sensation, i would rather have the SG2 because it seems like its more faster and the whole touchiwiz 4 looks clean. im not saying that sense 3.0 isnt clean and isnt fast, i actually love it, but in the end its all personal preference and its up for you to decide. i suggest you try messing around with the sensation before you switch
Even though i myself am a Sensation owner, i can tell ya the SGSII, despite the lower res and the tad inexpensive build quality/looks, it's still a lot better phone.
Probably your carrier. However if u still wanna go with the Sensation.. then by all means; it is after all your call at the end of the day.

"tad" is putting it lightly, IMO (as someone who owned a SGS2 for several hours today before deciding that I would return it before it got scratched and otherwise damaged. Samsung is all about the numbers game, rather than the overall user experience. They don't care if the phone feels fragile if they can claim it is the lightest. They don't care if it is uncomfortable to hold if they can say it's thinner than an iPhone 4 (they do this with the Tab 10.1 as well but it's not uncomfortable thankfully).
While the SGS2 screen is stunning to behold (even in strong sunlight) coming from someone who has hated all previous AMOLED screens because of how terrible the pentile grid arrangement made them look, It's a cheap, poorly designed phone. Great specs, very fast, etc
On the other hand, you have the Sensation which isn't perfect, but feels smaller in the hand, due to the curved back and the fact that it has a narrower but taller display, has a great looking, higher res screen, and has build quality that leaves one not wanting or needing a case for the phone.
If you have the SGS2 right now and are considering the Sensation, some of the stuff I mentioned is probably bothering you like it did me. I know how it feels to have people look at you like you're crazy for wanting to swap the SGS2 for the Sensation, since that's what I tried doing at Bell Canada today
If you plan on using and relying on WiFi, it's a terrible idea. The Sensation has the worst WiFi of any android phone I've used.
I think you will find out that it's the same experience in the end. There is a number of problems on Sensation aswell ...
thanks for the replies appreciated
i think i'll give this phone another week and then see if it has changed my mind or not.

How can you blame the SGS2 for poor network, dosen't make sense to me but I honestly think SGS2 is the better option to sensation with regards to two things
1) Countless custom Roms already which solve a lot of problems
2) Easily flashing of the latest Firmwares via ODIN regardless of whether you want to root or not
I am already using the 2.3.4 although its not official released and its great
At the end of the day its our choice Both phones have their pros and cons but for me the (easy firmware upgrade) was the DEAL BReAKEr
I would put a facepalm pic but thats no help.
Just stay with gs2, best phone eva. Sure it has better build quality but that always hidden with the case you put on it. In fact, putting a beautiful case on the sgs2 will not add much bulk at all and still have the best hardware.

YMMV. I ran Speedtest on my Sensation with wifi this morning and got over 26Mb down. I get better signal strength around my place than I did with my Vibrant. Some people report bad wifi on the SGS2. Just saying don't take every post as the last word.
Just because the Galaxy S line is made of super light plastic, doesn't mean its fragile and breaks easily. Samsung uses the material on purpose to make the phone light. They are probably just assuming that just because phones are getting bigger doesn't mean they need to get heavier. I actually know for a fact that Samsung puts a lot of research into the plastic material they use on there Galaxy S line. Weather its made of aluminum, plastic or rubber, its still feels solid while feeling light. I haven't seen anyone with a GSII complaining of a creaky battery cover like they are on the Sensation. I can't vouch for the GSII when it comes to holding up to damage over time but what I can vouch for is the Vibrant. That thing felt cheaply built as well since it was so damn light but I can assure you. It was probably the toughest Android device I've ever owned. I dropped it multiple times and the most it ever got was scratches to the chrome bezel that went around the phone. I took house keys to its display to show off its Gorilla glass to friends and the display remained in mint condition. Finally, that phone made it through over 50 house fires in which it got wet and was banged around. In case you don't know, you usually come out of a fire dripping from head to toe with water since there is thousands of gallons of it being thrown around. I always kept the phone my work shirt pocket so it was never in a case. That phone withstood water damage and "gravity" damage and still kept on ticking. That's more than I can sat about my Nexus One which only lasted through 2 or 3 fires. It ended up getting water underneath its display.
What I'm trying to get at is just because a phone is light and made of plastic, doesn't mean its cheaply made.

But it does mean that the vast majority of people will be using a case to prevent scratches/damage, negating a lot of their time and energy spent making it thin/light.
It just kills me there's so many "phone X is better than phone Y" threads on me, and they actually think that it's black and white like that.
I hate cases. I want to see beautiful design, not beautiful design wrapped in some silicon skin. Personal opinion of course. I also like docks (blame Palm's amazing touchstone for that). Blame the Atrix for turning me on to good vehicle docks (not that I ever drive, but when I do). I also like high res screens a lot. Oh and soft touch and metal. And silky smooth, curved glass.
Plenty of people don't care. They want the fastest processor, the most ram, a big battery, and a big screen, and nothing else matters. They'll slap it in a case anyway, so build quality doesn't matter a ton. Maybe they don't even care about scratches. The SGS2 is very, very nice. Millions of people are currently loving theirs. I tried. It's not for me. Damn that screen is so beautiful though, I miss it.

I don't like cases or screen protectors and I rarely ever use them. That's the thing. My Vibrant did not scratch as easy as one might think. I don't think if someone adds a case to a phone that's thin and light negates the time and energy it took to get there. Its comment sense. The light the phone is, the lighter its going to be with a case on it. Just because you add a case, doesn't mean it becomes as heavy as every other phone with a case on it. Or does it? Samsung uses plastic because a WiFi frequency and cell signal can pass through it easier than aluminum or metal. We have seen deathgrip issues time and time again with phones that are built with metals.
Lastly, if you like soft touch and silky smooth curved glass then the G2X impliments those two things perfectly. The rubbery back plate and the beveled glass that curves down feels awesome. The glass us also smoother than what the Sensation has. I also like how LG beveled the G2X glass. It goes down instead of up so your fingers just glide right off the display when swiping. Its a much better implimentation than HTC's beveled glass which curves up. To bad the G2X can't run a full day without rebooting though.

TB Build Quality

As much as I hate to rant, I don't know where else would be appropriate to do so, so ignore this if you don't care.
I have own htc devices since the ppc6700. I have owned an iPhone and a Moto droid, but the rest htc. I have always found htc to build a quality product. I love the phone internals and gingerbread, oh and the kickstand has become imperative, but I feel like this is the worst quality htc handset I have ever owned. Since launch day I'm on my 5th phone. All manufacturer warranty exchanges. I had 2 recessed power buttons, one recessed volume rocker, and a broken wifi. The power button is again begining to recess more every day, on all of my tb's the metal finish on the kickstand flaked of.....I mean is anyone else kind of disappointed here? Have I just had ****ty luck? I am so gentle with these things I really don't understand what's going on.

Funny this post popped up.
My power button went kaput tonight.
I'm on my 5th t bolt as well, horrible build quality. My latest phone runs great but the screen has a green hue to it and the power button was messed up out of the box. All five of mine have had messed up power buttons (either out of the box or within a month) a retarded proximity sensor and the speakers and mics are poor quality and make this horrible as a phone (luckily I don't talk much) and one of them wasn't stable at 1 ghz, I had to underclock it to 800 mhz to stop the shut downs.
I got this phone because I know most of their phones are great, but even people I know who were big time HTC fans switched over to the charge. I really don't want to swap for a Samsung or LG but thats all they will switch my phone for, I wish they would switch it for a Motorola to get me through until my upgrade.
I'm at about 4 months or so with the TBolt and no issues what-so-ever. I have flashed numerous ROMs, kernels and radios over and over and no issues there either. Only thing is the kickstand has a few little flakes coming off but whatever it's a phone not an antique to be worried about. I actually think the build quality is quite nice and I like how it feels sturdy in my hands not glass like the jesusphone or plasticy like other Android phones I have had....ATRIX!!!!

Me too, or a Bionic.
I think the reason I keep getting crappy phones is because these refurbished/certified phones suck and was someone else's reject before we get them.
Yea, I've had no problems on the functionality/software front. My problem is this is the most I've ever paid for a device on contract so I refuse to use one with a messed up power button, or a flakey kickstand, or wifi radio that's broken. I only bought this phone because:
1. Wanted unlimited data
2. Wanted 4g
3. Good Past experiences with HTC
I planned to upgrade to the bionic and give this phone to the fiance, but it took too long and now I'm not impressed with it. I love the experience and functionality of this phone. I like the charge too, but the only thing that pisses me off about the charge is that the browser is crippled. Its so laggy that it would make me embarresed to show my buddies with an iPhone something on the web.
With all this being said, I think the droid/nexus prime will be my next device. Reason being is that google has official stated that android will be focusing on OMAP compatibility in ice cream sandwich development, and I have a feeling the vigor will ship with a Qualcomm chipset. That combined with my thunderbolt experience. Still, I see no other devices on verizon currently that catch my interest.
I have no idea how some of you go through so many devices. It really blows my mind. I've had no issues at all with this thing.

I'd love to have a Bionic, but I'm not using an upgrade for it. They told me I could do an early upgrade since I've had so many problems but I feel I should be entitled to a decent phone since I already paid them $270 for this pos. I wasn't suppose to get an upgrade until may, and I want to hold out until then to get a phone that'll hold me over for 2 years but I need a phone to get me through until then and all they offer is Samsung and LG which I stay away from (phones only, I love my Samsung tv and I keep eyeing a galaxy tab). The only reason I don't switch to the charge is poor signal, all of my old Samsung phones had poor signal and most reviews I read about the charge mentioned that as one of the cons. If the browser is the only thing holding back from a charge why don't you try a 3rd party browser?

After going through 6 of them you'd think they'd try to offer you something else. I've been through 3 so far & as soon as I get an extra $310 I'm done with Verizon/HTC.

They have offered, but they've only offered the charge and revolution and I've already had all the crappy Samsung and LG phones that I care to. I'd go back to a Droid X if they would refund some of the $270 I spent on this piece.

MT4G Design and construction, what do you think

hello this is my first post and i wanna know what is your opinion about My touch 4g design, construction, the name "mytouch 4g", or the mt4g logo it self.
and here is my opinion:
Design & Construction
i think mytouch 4g design is bit different with other HTC phones. most of HTC phones' design are boxy, minimalist and simple, but MT4G design is more in detail. like the phone speaker or the curved edge.
MT4G also have 4 physical buttons, which is on the new generation of HTC phones usually use touch sensitive button instead of physical button.
"My touch"
i live in Indonesia, and brand "my touch" sounds like cheap china's phones here. in my country there were tons of iphone imitations that use word "touch" for their brand. so when my friend saw this phone for the first time he ask me. "is it an i phone imitation?"
so what do you think about my touch 4g design, compared to other HTC phone or else, also the brand image in your country.
out of topic: you know what, dell's tablet "peju". in indonesia "peju" means sperm.
I think the myTouch line sucks when it comes to advertising and endorsing. And the build is great, but not as good as other HTC phones like the Legend, DHD, Thunderbolt, etc.
Tmobile really should have marketed this line a whole lot better. And the name should have been better than the "myTouch."
The Droid line is successful and popular because it has a kick ass name and good commercials.
The MT4G itself is a great phone, but to answer your question, I think tmobile dropped the ball on this one.

I agree somewhat.
The Mytouch 4g is a GREAT phone, if you get the 1 in a million unicorn mytouch with no build problems.
For others, it's an endless cycle or exchanging through tmobile/htc to get the perfect mytouch, which in my case, I still dont have. The FFC still crooked, small dust under screen... I went through 3 phones before I said F*CK it and went with this one.
Just look at the "how many times did you exchange your mt4g" thread at XDA and you will see how ****ty HTC build has become.
Sorry, but although I do like the MT4G, my next phone will be Samsung S2 or better (flame on for those samsuck h8ters)

PS. I forgot to mention the wonderful mysense experience and bloated software of the mytouch android OS.

You know people can hate on Samsung all they want but their build quality and quality control is WAY better than any HTC. Even Sensation owners face similar problems as MT4G such as dust under the screen, creaks, touch screen unresponsiveness etc. And the list goes on.
They may be plastic, but Samsung phones are better IMO. HTC just has better software.
i agree on the name... Mytouch sounds cheap
i wish the Mytouch in the front was changed to HTC like the Panache.
but the codename GLACIER is amazingggg
overall, VERY nice phone.
At first glance, the MT4G feels like a high-end phone. It feels great in the hand, has the metal backing, no squeaks or creaks to the case, etc.
But at closer inspection, there are a lot of little build imperfections. My particular phone has these issues:
- badly off-centered front and rear cameras
- very loud physical buttons below the screen
- the glass over the screen is not centered (it is flush with the metal bezel on the right, but there is a noticeable gap between them on the left)
- lots of backlight bleed-threw around the screen and physical buttons
There's also the issues of good versus bad eMMC chips, and a huge difference in display quality between the Sharp and Sony SLCD screens.
My opinion is that the phone was designed very well, but the production department dropped the ball when it comes to choosing good components (screen and chip) and assembling the phones (my issues above). It's almost like since T-Mobile is a "budget" carrier, HTC doesn't take phones destined for the T-Mobile network very seriously. It's amazing many MT4G's made it through HTC quality control and out the door...
My opinion...great specs (for the time), uneven execution. I don't plan to upgrade anytime soon, but my phone is super creaky (buttons, battery cover), has so much dust under the lens I can't see the notifications in sunlight and has nearly all of the battery cover coating scratched off (by my fingernail, but still, wtf?). The design is a little ghetto fabulous as well, with all the disparate materials, finishes and design elements.
The myTouch 4G is not the best phone of its generation and the low resale value is rather telling when it comes to what people think of its build quality or its limited T-Mobile-only 3G connectivity, but I think the third-party developer potential for this phone is as good or better than its fellow 2010 model year phones, and it ended up being exactly what I was seeking in my contract-free price range. The only other choices on my radar were the older HTC HD2 and HTC Desire, but the Glacier is a much better piece of hardware.
I'm sure nobody here wants to read this, but to me, the myTouch 4G bears a slight superficial resemblance to the old iPhone form factor with buttons with the rounded, chrome-trimmed bezel. However, the greater angle of the rounded edges, front camera, larger screen, and physical buttons all help give the phone its own character. The physical buttons are a plus for me because I like the tactile feedback even though we've all adapted to not feel a need for it anymore.
The design of the phone is good, but the execution and build has been inconsistent from the good and bad screens and eMMC chips to the tightness of the assembly. I'm extremely meticulous, which made getting a phone off of eBay time-consuming with all the questions I was asking the sellers. Fortunately, I got one in mint condition with a good screen, no dust, no scratches, no backlight bleed, and no creaking whatsoever. The front camera is slightly off-center, but it doesn't bother me at all. I was initially concerned about having a bad eMMC, but it didn't get in the way of rooting.
As for the myTouch moniker, it's not great, but I'm not big on names in general unless they are completely awful. This is what T-Mobile chose to name their flagship line and it is recognizable as one of the better pieces of hardware on the market at its given launch date. At least it was, until now with the new LG junk that doesn't compare to the myTouch 4G Slide. I guess it's better than the crap they've unveiled under the Sidekick name.

I own the G2 and this phone. Both had little quirks however I fixed my hinge on the g2 and as for the mytouch, you can't fix the quirks can u?
Its great, it looks pretty sexy but the logo is ugly, and mine creaks on the left side. Still no idea how to get the creaks out.
Specwise its great. Even the screen is nice, I don't have phone envy.
I feel sorry for the poor saps buying new phones just to update to gingerbread or get a faster processing speed.
Its sexier then the cellphone I used ten years ago.

I don't have any of the problems that all these other people are experiencing. Maybe I just got lucky my phone. The only annoying thing to me is the logo an the lack of a power mat charger( I have to use the cube). My emmc chip is a good one, then screen is the better one also. Never had to change my phone since I bought it in February. No connection issues for me, better yet I never had a single issue with this phone, once.
From my fist to your face, enjoy.
I also have had zero build problems. Phone is decent spec wise for its time, easy to root and mod, and has a solid feel for its construction. I'm running Faux's CM Nexus Gingerbread 1.3.1.
The MT4G replaced my N1, which is now my back-up phone in case something does ever break. But, even though my N1 is rooted and has a custom rom (Oxygen GB 2.3.7), I find I seldom go back to it because MT4G has more ram, more storage memory, 2nd gen. processor (can OC to 1.84 but is usually at 1.1) and a far better camera for still pictures and 720p video. The only slight edge I would give the N1, which admittedly is older, is the benefit of an Amoled screen for power usage; though both screens are bright and clear enough. Otherwise, both of these phones did everything I needed them to.
screen
I just wished the 4g had 4 inch screen
Me too man, more internal storage
also. I find it funny that whenever I go on engadget (bad site I kno) and read something pertaining to android, there are so many people complaining about how it soo buggy and has so many FCs.Personally I have gotten atmost 10 FCs (mostly with this truly buggy youtube google failed on) with this phone using stock (go launcher ex tho). I have owned this phone since december, got really lucky to not have any hardware issues either. So basically I love my phone Lol!

I agree... quality control from HTC is practically nonexistant. I still would rather have an HTC phone though as long as it's not too bad, because I can't imagine going without their software. Sense is beautiful.

if we talking about touchwiz 4.0, yes it's good, but touchwiz 3.0 is ugly.
i think Samsung's phone like a race cars, it has a powerful hardware but its interior is very simple and lack of features, its interior is designed just to make it go fast. HTC's phone is like a exotic cars with wooden dashboard, leather interior, and full of features.
then let say, samsung galaxy s II is ferari fxx, then mytouch 4g is aston martin db9.

Is there any other kind of opinion?
It is true that version 4.0 makes TouchWiz look a lot better than it used to, but it's nowhere near as nice looking as Sense.

I'm bored of this whole "It's plastic so it sucks" argument.

I don't understand the hate for plastic, it's far more durable than metal for the function of a phone. I've actually got the One now, it's waiting to be exchanged for the GS4 but sadly that has been delayed until May now. When using the One I was constantly worried about dropping it, I kept checking for scratched, it just made me paranoid. I even went searching for cases and I realized I hate the people who go on about the design of the phone and then wrap it in an ugly cheap case anyways. I put the frigging phone in my pocket, nothing else there and it gets a scuff some how. I realized I cannot live with the One, it's not fun to use and I'm constantly worried about it getting damaged. The thing that swung me exchanging it though was seeing how you wont be repairing it yourself, it's so poorly designed. I mean in the past if I've dropped a phone, I go to ebay, buy the parts and repair it myself, you cannot do that with the One. On top of that the One gets so hot, it's like one big heat sink, it makes playing games so uncomfortable.
So I've put the One away waiting for it to be exchanged and went back to my Nokia. Plastic is so much nicer, it has more grip, it keeps the heat in one location so you can just not hold it there, it doesn't scuff or scratch like a *****. I've looked at the GS4 teardown and the plastic rim is easy to take off and replace and so is the back cover obviously. I can not worry about dropping it or scratching it or the condition of my battery sitting in a heatsink sandwich like on the One. I can just easily replace all that stuff if I do damage it.
For me plastic is the better material by far and I don't see it as a down side. I'm getting bored of every review saying how the One is better and all they mention is the design. I've got one, it isn't well designed, it isn't even well made, I've got giant gaps between the glued on speaker grills and the plastic on the phone.
I just don't get it, but whatever!
Along the same lines of design complaints, I love how many ppl diss the design saying it looks exactly like the S3 and there isn't anything special about it. So why don't ppl say the same thing about the iphone that has only seen 1 true design change in 6 years? Not hating on Apple, I just don't see what all the fuss is about the S4 design being "dull" when other major phones don't change as drastically either.

Ttoally agree
I could understand if the aluminum vs plastic debate was made into the subset, lesser point of contention that it is. But multiple reviews, mainly from American websites, have put it front and center as one of the biggest issues and one of the most important if not THE most important distinction between the phones. Like, seriously? Most of these reviews skim over features, barely juggle the cameras, and no real mention of Mobeam. So they insert the classic filler argument to get page views, and no new information is shown, and no real analysis done.
The only thing "cheap" going on here is the reporting. If you're reviewing a unit and you have limited access to the phone and can't do a proper review, just say so. Don't take up paragraphs to explain this "war" that few people really care about whatsoever, and especially don't make up 1/3 the problems with the phone as "it doesn't feel premium"; there's far more concerning issues to list besides that.
And it's not like cases are rare among mainstream buyers: https://www.npd.com/wps/portal/npd/us/news/press-releases/pr_120821/
Custom cases, skins, and other phone accessories make up a multi-billion dollar industry in of itself. The idea that "naked phones" are the standard and everyone should adhere to it is asinine. I would rather put a real kick ass Breaking Bad print on the back cover of my Galaxy S4 then use the generic black mist for instance.
Due to all the hype, I went out the other day to check out the HTC One and I was honestly underwhelmed. Premium feel? I don't think so. Maybe I'm weird but the One actually kind of felt like plastic to me, LOL~ The aluminum isn't even very solid and dense and it felt only a bit more thicker than my can of Rockstar I drink every day. If HTC were gonna do aluminum, they should've at least used higher quality aluminum like the one on the iPhone 5. At least the iPhone 5 does feel a bit premium. I appreciate aluminum for my car's suspension parts but don't care for it on my phone.
Sure the HTC One looks premium but I would feel bad covering up that "premium" look with a case. But if I don't put it in a case, I'll feel even worse when it gets scratched. If any dust gets under you case, its going to slaughter the aluminum finish on the One.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Because people are dumb.
Most of my previous phones were aluminum and *solid*... That's no indication of durability as screen breaks and dents are still commonplace with metal phones. Removable battery, cooler to hold, lighter, less prone to visible scratches etc.
A vast majority of smartphone users put there phones in hideous cases anyway so the entire *premium feel* argument is fluff.
Bottom line something feeling more dense doesn't means is better quality. Just pure subjective nonsense.
If htc, sony, and apple fanboys dont bash the design, what else they have to bring down samsung? No nothing, samsung is way beyond all of them in rest of the departments.

Every time someone uses a car metaphor, it's almost always complete rubbish. Aside from the fact that it's the paint you're scratching on the car, even if it were all aluminum, the "fix" doesn't carry over to a phone. You going to use chemical treatment/sanding on your phone to help with those scratches? The alternative is you send it back for a replacement (and warranties normally don't cover tiny scratches on the phone), or cover up the scratches with a case/skin (and then what's the point?).

It's just way too hard for some of them to accept that in some circles the One is being touted as the better phone.
What the SGS 4 wins at, it's a fractional win. What the One wins at, it's almost a night and day difference. IE: Speaker quality, call quality, audio capturing capability & design. And no amount of crying is going to change that.

Yeah, HTC is breaking ground with those 2 million units. Samsung's shipping it's next 10 million batch soon I believe, after several carriers sold out of pre-orders. Keep telling yourself the speakers and aluminum design are all you need to have a good phone while the rest of us enjoy the aspects that "don't matter" like camera resolution, sensors, good software features, expandable memory, removable battery, screen size, headphone quality, Mobeam tech, and better hardware all around.
But you can record some really fly videos at the Slipknot concert, so there's that.

1. He is somewhat interested in the phone of that forum ( I never visited the HTC one v forum for example cause I'm not interested in it)

I don't care to change his mind, really. Just pulling up the facts; you can nip at the heel all you want but competition usually implies near-equal standing, and last I checked, there's a 157 billion dollar difference between the two companies, and one is posting poor results this quarter while the other is gaining. You're right, you fanboys are pretty comical.
