I have a G2x rooted and running Weapon 2.4 and have entered the sim unlock code in a previous rom ( stock rooted ). I want to use the phone with a gophone prepaid sim when I go to Mexico. What roms work with the sim unlock? The phone now does not read the sim card.
Thanks in Advance

CM7 will definitely work, not so sure about the stock based roms though
Any rom should work once the phone is unlocked. If the rom cannot read the sim card then I would try another rom. Or your sim card took a dump.
any rom will work
th eunlock is hardware unlock not a software
i t unlocks the hardware to support any sim - i use an unlocked phone in india
once it unlocks it is unlocked for ever
any sim any network any rom u can try it will work fine
Use a stock ROM

First of all, you have to obtain unlocked code. You can obtain from T-Mobile if you passed 3 months after you requested last unlocked code, and the phone passed 14 days (30 days in CA) trial. It is recommended to request it through online chat to ensure it's 100% correct (you can obtain your IMEI by key in *#06# from dial. Make sure you triple-check it).
After you obtained your unlocked code, go to dialer (you don't have to have foreign SIM but it is recommended to test) and input
2945#*999#
(this method works with ANY LG GSM Android phone because #*xxx# is actually your phone model. For example, Optimus T is P509 then #*509# and G2x is P999 so #*999#)
Enter unlock code correctly. Once you verified everything is correct, you can press the button below, and the phone will reboot, then the phone is unlocked.

When I swapped SIM in CM7 based ROM, the unlock screen kept crashing and was scared because thought a CRASH=WRONG CODE Entered.
I Flashed to EB 2.3.3 Stock and it worked. Phone rebooted after the code was entered. Message said "Network Unlock Failed"
I had an extra SIM to test and verified it did work. Again I did it without swapping SIM but better to do it on a STOCK cooked ROM.

Oh, and also, ANY ROM will work with the SIM you enter
As long as the APN gets properly you are fine.
I unlocked my phone to try Straight Talk. APN had to be modified to make MMS/DATA work. Again, this was a special case cause I'm not suppose to use ST SIM on a non-ST phone.

If your are on GSM networks outside U.S., it won't be carrier locked to Verizon, whatever ROM you're using. SIM lock on GSM networks is only valid in U.S. by default (though could be worked around).
So you can upgrade to KitKat, your phone won't be SIM locked.

It will probably say that SIM is from unknown source, but you can ignore this, it won't affect your usage.
I cannot comment on the KitKat update, as I have not received my XT926 yet. You could check out the topics in the forum like this one:

Of course, if your experience with the KitKat update will not be good, you can go back to JB, as the bootloader of these phones can be unlocked.

I would suggest possibly NOT taking the update that is being sent to the phone as it MIGHT be the newest OTA which fixes the bootloader unlock and Towelroot exploits. People have reported getting this update that are not part of the soak.
Instead, ignore it and go and get the FXZ for the Kit Kat and flash that via RSDLite or House of Moto. That way, you can then go and root with Towelroot and then unlock the bootloader.
After that, THEN take any OTAs after that. If the current OTA that is getting pushed to his phone is from the latest soak, then if he takes it, he will NOT be able to unlock the bootloader NOR root his phone.

You're confusing the SIM lock and the bootloader lock. The phone is not SIM locked outside the U.S., so don't worry about that.
The bootloader unlock is what allows you to install custom ROMs via a custom recovery.

You're surprised? Why? They don't want unlocking the bootloaders on the XT926s in the first place. The whole bootloader unlocking of the XT926 was due to a security exploit, not because Moto allowed it.
On JB, there was a version that allowed the bootloader to be unlocked until they patched it.
Then, when the initial Kit Kat OTA came out back in May/June, they accidentally re-introduced the bootloader unlock exploit. After the initial OTA, another soak test started and with that, they fixed the exploit again, so nothing surprising there.
This is the FXZ you want to flash to your phone (do NOT take the OTA just in case it's the latest soak which patches the exploit that was re-introduced with the first KK OTA) -> http://sbf.droid-developers.org/download.php?device=5&file=902

Correct, the developers edition can always be unlocked, no matter what. But, not many have the developers edition as it was a limited release.
Most XT926 devices are the non-developer's edition and can only be unlocked via an exploit.
I read the threads related to LG G5 from buyspry seller. Sadly I cannot revert the order I made on ebay I need to need few important things(to me) as I will be stuck with this Phone. I live in Bangladesh so I definitely cannot use it w/o SIM UNLOCKED.
I have known that If I upgrade or downgrade I will lose SIM UNLOCK.
Also I cannot root (till now) as it requires downgrade.
And I will be stuck with firmware it came in from the seller.
But still , Here are the things I really need to know :
1. If I compromise myself to use that firmware 20i_un (UNLOCKED) forever it comes from seller & do no modifications will the Phone be perfectly fine?
2. Does that awkward firmware gives or will give any OTA update? Cause if it gives and that accidentally gets installed I am screwed with a T-Mobile Locked device.
3. I will use my local GSM SIM , Will I be able to use Portable Hotspot with that ROM? (I couldn't, with my G2 At&t Unlocked stock At&t ROM)
4. Apart from any upgrade/downgrade(ROM flashing) is there any way I might lose UNLOCK???
Please guys, please do help me with these topics. I just recently damaged my LG G2 and lost a phone Xiaomi MI 4 (Mugged) I really am screwed

1) Probably.
2) Probably not.
3) No idea. You'd have to discuss that with your carrier.
4) Probably not, but it's still not clear how they achieved unlock via the ROM so who knows?

You lose unlock if you ever update or do anything to the ROM. Phone is garbage unless you're on Tmobile. Obviously you are going to want to update it eventually because it's assumed that LG will be issuing an official Oreo update.
I bought the device and reverted it to official firmware. With a few (lengthy) calls to Tmobile I eventually got them to white list my device for the Sim unlock app to work. I was first told that it was impossible for them to do because it wasn't a Tmobile device, meaning not purchased through tmobile (not sure how buyspry got them, maybe corporate wholesale or something).
I sent a bunch of photos to them showing the box and other tmobile documentation that came with the phone. They agreed to unlock it and after about a week's wait while tech support was working out the specifics, the app successfully unlocked it.
I am on tmobile but told them I preferred to have it unlocked if necessary for international travel.
So yeah, long story short if you're not on tmobile and have no way to get tmobile to officially unlock it return the device. Complain to eBay that the device had hacked firmware or whatever (which is 100% true) and they will let you return it.

How about SM-G930U firmware?
I disagree, it should be possible so long as you're flashing the same version of Android or higher.
You'll need a patched Odin to get around mismatch errors https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/patched-odin-3-13-1-t3762572
Then you can get the G930P firmware from https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?q=SM-G930P&rpp=15&order=date&dir=desc&exact=1 or your preferred host.
G930U should be possible as well.

you can flash any firmware you want on any of the same model phone you feel so inclined, but the G930A will never work on sprint and the G930P will only work on at&t if you unlock the domestic sim capabilities, but will not use full LTE, only HSPA+
The G930P/U/T/V are all identical hardware, firmware is the only thing that separates them.
If it's SIM unlocked and running the correct firmware, there is no reason it won't use the full carrier capabilities.
I have the phone SIM unlocked, it accepts the sprint card, i think i just left it in there for long period of time while phone was sim locked that sprint sim card got LOCKED. i think i have to either get new sim card from sprint or get the sim card unlocked by sprint. The phone is network unlocked by att.

seriously doubt that. if the sprint sim was active the entire time, its not at all likely, but sprint has done stranger things than that. sprint should give you a new sim at no cost, so all it would take is a drive to one of their stores, or if you dont have one near by, then they might charge to mail one to you. I would personally try putting it back in a sprint phone and see if it works. If it does, you know what your problem is. The phone. Unlocking the P variants has proven to be troublesome and some people think they have it unlocked with the junk number sprint gives you when you call them. Most people have had to resort to third party unlocker services fwiw

thats exactly what i was telling everyone. You cant use the 930A on sprint. The only thing you CAN get to work is data, but no vox or text. And even data would require unlocking such as what www.idoneapps.com does, but you have to pay them $35 for that. But that is on the G930P, not the G930A(which is SIM unlocked, but doesnt have a CDMA radio)

no problem
I have an option to get new phone with contract reneval. I like devices with strange "additions", thats why I had Moto Z3 Play before. And now I'm thinking about Velvet coz of it's Dual Screen.
However I need root for few apps I use (some for my own usage, some work related).
Do You believe that there will be a way to root Velvet in the nearest feature? Or ever?
I'm more asking if You believe there will be a way to fash Magisk patched kernel.
I know that nonflagship LG device doesnt even have an option to unlock bootoloader nd even the flagships (V60?) have blocked fastboot command, so unlocking does nothing...
https://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryId=CTULRS0703
Sad to see this after I chose something else...
Still, as I read about other LG devices it seems that unlockable bootloader doesn't have to mean that there is access to fastboot commands. An without that there is no reason to unlock it.
I thought about a new phone for a long time and I hope you are wrong. because I chose velvet. previously i had g6 and i already miss & root mods a lot. and what did you buy?
Realme X3 Superzoom. At least there is a root solution already
And they should share the sources like they did with older devices.
I'll miss the 2nd screen, but... Had a chance to play with it and my carrier gives it for free (screen or headphones) along with 3rd year of warranty.
I waiting for headphines ? they add choice (screen or it) after i buy phone  and i worry about lg is coming down with smartphone ... Have nice day and good luck with powerusing :victory:
Headphones? I'd choose the screen. F**k their DAC
Maybe one day I'll get LG with Dual Screen? Will see. As I signed the contract in the store I have no way to change it (not sure if I want to).
Anyway, nice day to You too. I miejmy nadzieje, ze znajdzie sie sposob na roota na Velveta

I’ve been seeing the LMG900M a lot on ebay, wondering if this works too as i haven’t seen it on this list?
In the dark
Is there anyway us as a collective to unlock the bootloader ourselves. I literally don't know like I'm very new to this and want to try it out a rooted device
got a velvet.
unlock bootloader was no prob.
but stock roms are in kdz format. uncompressable since last dev of un-kdz un-dz seems to support just old and smaller formats.
tried several boot.img's and twrp's that seem to be same chipset.
nothing worked so far. hopin some of the rom-gurus gets hot on that dual-screen feature/case...which works really good.
i didnt get it to work with root, but i dont give up hope.

just complete the process that wifredzik posted as link.
you ll get an unlock file from lg immediately.
enable developer options on your phone and in the following usb debugging.
boot into bootloader via adb and unlock as lg describes in the manual.
thats whats worked for me so far.
payed around with stock roms of other new mobile-phones that have the same chipset to extract the boot.img and modify it with magisk.
my strategy is to boot in with root, but without flashing partitions so that i can dump the original boot.img and modify with magisk just to flash it back.
but no other boot.img worked so far.
if there is somebody out there who can breakup the lg velvet stock rom (kdz-format) to intact img files please let me know.

hm...i would try it anyways.
the worst that can happen is that lg dont sends back the unlock.bin.
iv`e taken a look inside the file.
its encrypted. so, no way to create it the easy way by yourself...
