Ordered G5 from Buyspry : Need few simple answers - T-Mobile LG G5 Questions & Answers

I read the threads related to LG G5 from buyspry seller. Sadly I cannot revert the order I made on ebay I need to need few important things(to me) as I will be stuck with this Phone. I live in Bangladesh so I definitely cannot use it w/o SIM UNLOCKED.
I have known that If I upgrade or downgrade I will lose SIM UNLOCK.
Also I cannot root (till now) as it requires downgrade.
And I will be stuck with firmware it came in from the seller.
But still , Here are the things I really need to know :
1. If I compromise myself to use that firmware 20i_un (UNLOCKED) forever it comes from seller & do no modifications will the Phone be perfectly fine?
2. Does that awkward firmware gives or will give any OTA update? Cause if it gives and that accidentally gets installed I am screwed with a T-Mobile Locked device.
3. I will use my local GSM SIM , Will I be able to use Portable Hotspot with that ROM? (I couldn't, with my G2 At&t Unlocked stock At&t ROM)
4. Apart from any upgrade/downgrade(ROM flashing) is there any way I might lose UNLOCK???
Please guys, please do help me with these topics. I just recently damaged my LG G2 and lost a phone Xiaomi MI 4 (Mugged) I really am screwed

1) Probably.
2) Probably not.
3) No idea. You'd have to discuss that with your carrier.
4) Probably not, but it's still not clear how they achieved unlock via the ROM so who knows?

You lose unlock if you ever update or do anything to the ROM. Phone is garbage unless you're on Tmobile. Obviously you are going to want to update it eventually because it's assumed that LG will be issuing an official Oreo update.
I bought the device and reverted it to official firmware. With a few (lengthy) calls to Tmobile I eventually got them to white list my device for the Sim unlock app to work. I was first told that it was impossible for them to do because it wasn't a Tmobile device, meaning not purchased through tmobile (not sure how buyspry got them, maybe corporate wholesale or something).
I sent a bunch of photos to them showing the box and other tmobile documentation that came with the phone. They agreed to unlock it and after about a week's wait while tech support was working out the specifics, the app successfully unlocked it.
I am on tmobile but told them I preferred to have it unlocked if necessary for international travel.
So yeah, long story short if you're not on tmobile and have no way to get tmobile to officially unlock it return the device. Complain to eBay that the device had hacked firmware or whatever (which is 100% true) and they will let you return it.

[Q] Is my phone re-locked?

I posted this to the wrong board, sorry for those who have seen my question before.
I bought the SGS 4G over a year ago now, and I sucessfully rooted and unlocked the phone for use in Korea. During that time i kies'd my way up to Gingerbread which made me lose root, but it was still unlocked. I recently upgraded phones and was looking to sell my current Galaxy 4G. Since I didn't want my google account attached to the phone I stupidly reset the phone back to factory default. It told me that it wouldn't revert back to froyo so I thought I would be safe.
Is the phone now re-locked back to the Canadian telecom company it was originally bought from? Could a Korean use their SIM just like I have been doing? Since my new phone has micro-SIM I can't test this myself.
Also, if indeed it IS re-locked is it possible to unlock it without using my google account to redownload the unlocking app I used.
Thanks everyone.

I'm pretty sure once unlocked, always unlocked. There is a phone number command to type to see the status, you can google to find it, I can't remember.

You'll need to be on a stock BML rom to be able to check since I haven't ever been able to check using an MTD rom.

I like to think this would be simple. Perhaps you can help?

Here's what I got. ATT LG G3 running stock Marshmallow D85030p with what I presume is the newest security patch (June 2016)
At this point it's not on a carrier but it's locked by ATT. They kept my number as well.. A number that was mine from previous carriers.
Will I be able to root, install TWRP, and unlock this device to use on a prepaid carrier? Keep in mind this same phone has been flashed, rooted and ran recovery mods and ROMs before. Still in perfect working condition after receiving it's last stock OTA.

First of all what do you mean they kept your number? Did you cancel? Unpaid bill? That would be a deciding factor on how to go about things.
But no root cannot unlock your device
1. If you left AT&T in good standing AT&T will unlock the device for free. Even if you don't have any account.
2. If not then you can get it unlocked for a few dollars from some eBay sellers.
3. What prepaid carrier? If Any provider that runs on AT&Ts network you don't have to get it unlocked, it will work fine with Go Phone, Cricket , H2O and many others that run on AT&Ts network.
But a note if it's no longer on AT&T due to unpaid bill, or on bad terms remember the device may no longer work on any GSM carrier within the USA due to AT&T will blacklist it.

I understand root alone won't unlock it. With all that being said can I still root and flash a recovery method that are permanent? Does MM still not have a reliable root or recovery method?

You would need to downgrade to KitKat to do that. But remember once you downgrade you'll no longer be able to go back to any official firmware Past KitKat without an AT&T SIM card of some sort to ota update it.
Also remember if you get an unlock code you need to be running stock D850 firmware or else you won't be able to enter the unlock code.

Are there any unofficial MM or Lollipop ROMs that are worth looking into? I couldn't care less if it's official honestly. And that last bit you said, you mean if I wanted a phone unlocked I'd have to basically wipe my phone?

If you unlock before you leave behind stock then no you don't have to wipe. Once you install any custom ROM, your only option to unlock at that point is to revert back to stock, which means wiping.

Yes you can, if you are on stock. You will need to get the unlock code from AT&T, be on stock firmware, and have an active SIM card from another carrier (I.e. T-Mobile or of it's MVNOs like MetroPCS). Once you have the unlock code, put in the SIM card, turn on the phone, and you will get the prompts for the code you got. Then you're done.

LG G5 Software version H83020i_un

This is an unlocked T-Mobile G5, but why have a special ROM for unlocked phone? I wonder if I flash other ROMs, I could lose the unlock. Anyone have any problem rooting and install twrp?
Conclusion after a month long discussion:
G5 with H83020i_un ROM is NOT factory unlock. Upgrading or downgrading will result in SIM lock to T-Mobile, period.
Once locked, it can only be unlocked by T-Mobile customers via T-Mobile unlocked app. Some has to go thru T-Mobile customer service and request SIM unlock by adding IMEI to their database.
I bought 6 (New to New other) unlocked H830 and 2 has the hacked ROM H83020i_un and 4 were completely locked to T-Mobile. Yes, those stupid sellers on ebay just keep sending lock phones as unlocked phone! Good luck getting a unlocked one.
No, you cannot install TWRP or root this version.
I ended up returning mine.
You shouldn't lose the unlock by flashing another ROM.
A ROM isn't just about 'locked or unlocked'. The ROM is the operating system. While it will still be Android no matter what you do, different ROMs are modified differently to provide additional features, or more control over the settings or just a slightly different user interface.
This has NOTHING to do with the phone being unlocked for use on any GSM network.
For example some people want to be able to control the CPU processor speed on the phone more. Some ROM's give you that control built into the settings and use customer kernels that allow the CPU to run faster than it does running stock. Other people just like a more simple UI that you get on base Android ROM's (rather than some of the overlays LG puts on)

I don't know when people will understand that it has nothing to do with sim unlock. I have T-Mobile unlocked sim lg g5 and flashed roms, custom and stock both several times and never had any problem with sim lock stuffs. Just install twrp, root, flash custom rom, there will never hurt anything in your phone.

Did you confirm that by trying the phone with a non T Mobile SIM on a different network? Or did you just let the T Mobile unlocker app tell you it's still locked?
The app isn't the most reliable thing in the world. It's known to say it's not unlocked when it is or that it can't be unlocked when it already is. Etc etc...
Unlocking it manually (through codes, ADB, root, etc....) messes with the unlocker app. But the unlock itself should still be valid.

Maybe it is something to the specific phones people are getting from the ebay seller. They are being sold as new yet are not factory sealed and missing the Tmo sim card. People are claiming Android pay doesn't work and the phone isn't rooted. A new out of the box phone shouldn't have that issue. So something isn't necessarily kosher.
Guys, I have the same version (H83020i_un) and it has April security update and T-Mobile has different version #s on their website. I have checked for update, but nothing came up. So I can't get T-Mobile updates?
The software version H83020i_un is apparently not an official ROM released by T Mobile or LG.
There is a lot of speculation on Slickdeals (a website for coupons and stuff where this eBay deal has been discussed quite a bit) that the unlock was done by flashing a modified ROM. If so that would explain why flashing a new ROM loses the unlock.
Additionally people are saying that Android Pay doesn't work on this phone with that software update, presumably because it's not official firmware. I've never used Android Pay so I have no idea if it works or not.
All in all if you have the H83020i_un software and bought the phone 'new' I think you got conned. It's not new and that seems to be unofficial software.
I spent a lot of time, with help from @autoprime, trying to figure out where the unlock is stored. I was able to dump the partitions from 20i_un using the method here. After I downgraded to 20A and flashed TWRP, I flashed back all the 20i_un partitions (besides recovery, cache, and userdata), and it still wasn't unlocked. So I'm baffled as to how the unlock works.

I see. It will be used as a second device, so it is fine. I flashed the phone with stock T-Mobile H83020a, then got few OTA updates. Now my phone has H83020i, but T-Mobile's page(below) shows an "f" version as the latest. So is the H83020i, the latest update or not? Also would be good if anyone with real T-Mobile unit could chime in.

Unlocking bootloader on ebay purchased TMobile 7 Pro

Thinking of buying one of these and want to clarify the process of unlocking the bootloader. From the ebay seller he says it is a T-Mobile phone but is sim unlocked already. He says I will have to contact oneplus to get the bootloader unlock code/token. I don't really want to wait the forty days or whatever I heard it was but it's ok as long as I can definitely get it unlocked eventually and won't be stuck for some reason with a locked bootloader. Thanks for any info you can provide.

I've ran across two of your posts asking the same question. I had done the same thing as you. I bought an eBay sim unlocked op7p. At first I flashed the international firmware to just bypass the whole tmobile bootloader unlock. It worked in the sense that I was able to unlock the bootloader, however I had no service and the phone would not detect my sim (Cricket). I tried another sim with the same results. I had to use the msm tool and flash back to tmobile stock firmware in order for it to work with my sim.
I sent in my request for an unlock token and received it in 7 days. I think the 40 days is only for brand new phones. I would submit the unlock token request and go that route. YMMV, you may very well be able to flash the international software and just bypass it. I didn't have that luck. The 7 day wait wasn't so bad. Hope this helps.

That's good to know that I can get the unlock token if needed. So TMobile doesn't care who you are or that you don't have a T-Mobile account or live in US obviously then?

The unlock code comes from OnePlus. I only had to wait the week and the received an email with a link to download the unlock_code.bin file. To answer your question, not to my knowledge.

YMMV, you may very well be able to flash the international software and just bypass it. I didn't have that luck. The 7 day wait wasn't so bad. Hope this helps.

I think I may be in the same boat. After fighting with msm I finally got it to flash the international firmware but nowjiy doesn't detect my sim. So you went back to Tmobile software and got the token to unlock but once you did that did you switch back to international or custom ROMs?

I have not flashed back to international because I couldn't get the phone to detect my sim even after updating the international firmware.
I would however recommend that once you flash back to TMobile (using msm) that you do the OTA (settings>system>check for updates)
Currently I'm running unlocked and rooted via magisk. I'd like to flash a custom rom (looking at resurrection) but they say to flash the international rom to both slots first (via recovery like twrp) and I'm not sure if that would cause the sim issue again. I haven't had time to ask about it (if I can flash straight from tmo stock rooted to a custom rom like resurrection). So unfortunately I don't have the best answer there. You may ask around in some of the custom rom threads about just flashing straight from the TMobile stock firmware with unlocked bootloader. If you happen to find out an answer, please pm me and let me know.

Actually I was mistaken. Once I updated the international rom to Android Q my sim started working again and now I am on Bliss and sim is still working. Not sure what is going on with your sim.

Question s22 ultra tmobile flash HELP PLEASE

can anyone help me.
I have a s22u s908u tmobile locked unpaid. is it possible to flash it to global firmware?
will it remove the carrier restrictions?
does anyone has a tutorial for this problem?
thank you guys and more power.
You can Odin flash "unlocked" firmware, U1 as opposed to U firmware that is.
But it has zero affect on the status of your simlock status.
Also you might find if you go to unlock it that you need to go back to the TMobile firmware to access the app they use to sim unlock it.
What exactly are the restrictions you are trying to circumvent?

I am in the philippines, some one sold me the phone and told me it was unlocked clumsy me didnt check it. cant unlock it via server since it is unpaid and cant return it either. thats why im looking for an alternative way so i can use my simcard here.
Ahh. So yeah. You may want to worry about the simcard situation first and flashing the firmware won't fix that. I know there are paid services out there that will take Paypal and such but I haven't used one in almost ten years so I won't be any help there

thanks bud
But if there is still money owed by the person you bought it from there is a chance it will be black listed. You were basically sold a device that he or she didn't own, correct?

Possibly, im screwed right?
I am in the same boat as u, though was able to get my device (Tmobile) unlocked from 3rd party vendor and using it in India. But am not getting any OTA updates.
What could be the reason and what should be done.
Can i flash an Indian/gobal ROM and get OTA updates. Also will it lock the phone again and/or wipe out the data on the phone.
Any help would be highly appreciated
The moment you put a SIM it will the IMEI flashing won't change this. If you change your IMEI with certain software in the US you can have a visit from the Feds as this is something that terrorist do to spoof IMEIs.
