[Q] connecting phone to google account

So, I was thinking to connect my phone to a google account.
I have a Samsung Galaxy 3 i5800 and don't have any internet contract with it, so I will be connecting only through my home wifi.
The only reason I want to do this is for the contacts synchronization, but are there any disadvantages in doing so? Any other reason to join the phone to an account (considering I don't have a contract with internet)? I probably won't be installing any apps since I'm fine with what the phone has.
On a side note, does the 2 step verification for google accounts have a cost? If yes how can I know how much it is?

No disadvantages I can think of, and no cost attached.
You'll be able to re-sync your contacts, calendar, google pictures if you were to flash or factory restore your phone.

The 2-step verification does not have a cost. Also, there's an app for your phone. It's an implementation of the Time-Based One-Time Password Algorithm (TOTP) in accordance with the guidelines outlined by the Initiative for Open Authentication (OATH), so it should work offline. However, not all apps/sites that use your Google login are compatible with it yet, so you'll probably have to make application specific passwords for some sites/apps.
Also, it's open source, which is nice.
It doesnt cost you!
Your local operator might charge you for an internet subscription

Retrieve Contacts and Gmail Account - Broken Screen

Hi, my partners dad has a galaxy s3 where the screen remains black even though the phone is still receiving messages and calls, his work have now provided him with a new S5 and he wants to retrieve his contacts. The only thing is, he doesnt know what the gmail account is that he used, when setting up the phone he created one because he had to but has never used it since so we have no idea.
Is there any way at all of retrieving the contacts or finding out what gmail address is registered on the phone? Its a work phone so wont be rooted or have debugging and another obstacle is that he may have had a passcode lock on the phone.
Are there any software downloads out there or will KIES help at all? Im wondering if he may have a software update due and can run that through KIES which may hopefully fix the black screen somehow but thinking the passcode lock may stop us.
Really not sure what we can do, he has some contacts on there that he doesnt know and will not be able to get again.

gmail does not sync

Hi!
I am getting crazy. :crying::crying:
Since about 2 weeks ago my H955(rooted and xposed) and my friend's (original) do not sync properly GMAIL anymore (actually it sync randomly only 3-4 times at day).
I tried everything: deleted the system app and installed a new one from the market, I changed the account on my phone but nothing. The problem is still there.
As u can see from the screenshoot it seems that my google account sync randomly the google apps.
Do you have any suggestion?
PS: I am writing here cuz I tried my account in other 2 phones and it works like a charm and we have the same problem if we use another google account on ur phones.
I just noticed that hangout has the same problem. This morning I found a chat from a friend of mine of yesterday morning
Same here
I've got the same thing going on. I've tried everything I've found online and nothing has any effect. My G Flex 2 is unlocked and rooted but on the stock rom. It's not my account because it works fine in my old Nexus 4, and other Android devices I use.
Has anyone made any headway with this?

I had a similar issue with hangouts for a while, but recently fixed it when I went around and logged out of all my devices, and logged back into just a few of the important ones for hangouts.
I think one big issue was when I got messages and a shared device was on and hangouts running, it "saw" the notification first and never went through to the rest of my devices.
try to remove and re add the account 2-3 times .
try to clear data from google related apps gmail playstore....
maybe these fixes also resolves your issues https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-solve-google-play-store-errors
Fixed!
Thank you so much! I found a fix on that androidpit article. Specifically I followed these steps:
Delete your Google Play Store data in Settings > Apps > All > Google Play Store > Clear data. Delete data from Google Services Framework as well (note: this will assign a new Google ID to your device, as if you had factory reset it, meaning your Google apps may temporarily act up afterward).
Delete your Google account on the device, reboot your phone and re-add your Google account in Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Google Account.

That is the security feature. What if you are not the owner and you are trying to put your hands over others phone. May be you can try clicking help me finding my account option on the screen.

Sold Android phone - buyer now needs my login to activate???

I just sold my LG G5 phone on eBay for spares, as the touchscreen was damaged and could not be used. I used the remote wipe feature on my Google account to remove my details from the phone.
The person who bought the phone is now being asked to provide login details of a Google account which was previously synced with the phone, so has asked me to provide my account name and password. Obviously I'm not keen to handover my credentials, even if it's only for a few minutes before I change my password again.
Is there any way around this - i.e. any way that the buyer can get into the phone without me having to give him my login credentials?
