That is the security feature. What if you are not the owner and you are trying to put your hands over others phone. May be you can try clicking help me finding my account option on the screen.

help :[ [rom problem]

I decided to try and change the rom on my lg optimus v for virgin mobile. I dl'd gapps-gb-20110325-signed.zip (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=962862 )to my pc, and turned on usb mass storage. i went to f:/download/root and put the file in there. Then opened it in root manager clicked install from root sd card, and installed the rom.
now to the probelm
when it turned back on it looks nothing like the rom, just my default rom but without any apps but the super basic apps for the phone (no junkware either) and superuser. no marketplace or rom manager.
i tried going to settings/accounts & sync settings and adding my account. then it says add an exchange account. i put my gmail email in and then it goes to server settings for my email... its all allready filled out so i just hit next and then it says setup cannot finish, unable to open connection to server.
if someone could help me through this or at least try i would really appreaciate it, my phones bascially useless untill then.
Well, gmail is not an "Exchange Account"...
When you setup your accounts, use your Gmail account info with Gmail...
well, i dont know what account to put in.. and i dont know if i really screwed my phone up. what is an exchange account then? that gmail account is what i had everything linked to (contatcts etc)

Exchange is a Windows based corporate mail setver.
You dont need to setup an exchange account on your phone for it to work.
If you did a factory reset you should be prompted to enter your gmail info before anything else.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
ya after it was all ****ed up, i tired to do a factory reset. and im now stuck in clockwork recovery mod. I tried to go to backup/recovery and install the backup i made before i tried to flash my os, let it do its thing, then after it installed, it went right back to clockwork. :[
you never realized how terrible it is to not have a phone untill it happens...
can anyone direct me to a next step i need to take?

Too many pattern attempts

My son has a Desire S which he has locked now after doing too many pattern attempts but we do not have the gmail account password (was setup purely for this phone and not used it since created) I have done a gmail recovery form but not holding my breath as account was never used so cant provide the "who emails you frequently" info etc...
Found a post on G1 forum about turning pattern lock off using ADB but he has turned off USB debugging
I know I can wipe the phone but he really dont want phone wiped as obv. will loose all his contacts and as its summer holidays wont be easy to get them back
If I flashed a rom (stock or otherwise) would it automatically wipe data? (normally only use clockwork to flash mine and know it gives option but clockwork not an option as cant get in phone) if it didnt wipe data do stock roms normally have debugging enabled? so I could then disable using ADB
or is there any other way? or will I have to bite bullet and wipe it
can't you boot into recovery using power and volume down, and aren't the contacts in sync with your gmail?
There are some methods on this link you can try
http://einartysen.se/unlock-android-phone-after-too-many-pattern-attempts/
Also how many times did you try?!! Usually it locks for a little while
It is running a stock rom unrooted so no recovery mode
Contacts are synced with gmail but no good as we cant access gmail account
Dont know how many times it was tried but lock seems permanent, has been stuck on that for hours now and even turning off/on dont clear it
oh and I have tried everything in that site already btw
lol this really bites, how old is your son? does he have a zillen and a half contacts? does he have an paid apps associated with gmail? if your answers are; under 10, no, and no. then it might just be easier to scrap and redo... :|
other then that your choices are to either remember the pin or the password to the gmail account
and did calling the phone but pressing the home button really not work? cause i really would like to know that one for future reference.
yeah you're only option now is to do a factory reset.

Did you not give gmail an alternative email in case of situations where you forgot your password? If you did then you can just request your password sent to that.
Once you get the gmail password it's just a case of factory reset, set up gmail account and gmail should have all contacts backed up.
If your son is on facebook, they have probably "stolen" all the contacts already and you can get them back from there.

that's a great idea, get your son to log into his face book and if he's used the face book application from his phone recently then his account will contain all of his contacts and their numbers
Swyped from HTC Desire S using XDA Premium

Sync Issues

I recently changed my google password and now my phone has sync problems.
So I figured something was screwed up and did a wipe and fresh install, setup phone as normal using new password, no sync.
Gmail wont update, calendar wont show appointments, fb birthdays dont show.
Did changing password cause this or should I ruu and begin again.
I should mention this is a new hox under one week old, my other was stolen but recovered. They damaged the sim slot so its off for warranty or I would test with the other phone.

Changing your password should not effect the phone the way you have described i would delete the google account from the phone and then create it again. Also not to state the obvious but have you tried to log into the account from a pc to make sure it's working with your new password.

HELP! Security~Google password glitch?

Have you run into this before and if so how do you fix it?
My kid accidentally triggered his security feature on his new S7 to wipe his phone with too many incorrect entries.
Once he got the phone rebooted he attempted to enter is google account and password. Here in-lies the rub...
He forgot his google password and changed it from the desktop. This should not be an issue. However the S7 would not accept the new google password and wants the original password. The phone is completely locked out.
After making calls (on a different phone) to Samsung, we had it sent in. Samsung cannot even get past this and are now sending him a new phone.
We do not want to go through this ever again as it is very much PITA.
Besides keeping a log of his account passwords in a secret location, how does he get past this in the future?

Unlock/Flash Stock S7 with FRP Lock/OEM lock

Hi guys,
I received the smartphone from my father and he unfortunately locked out himself (forgot pass)
I tried to do a factory reset and it failed as it requires login from the old google account which he set up years ago and does not remember anymore.
I tried to connect to ODIN but quickly realized that USB debug and this special anti Unlock Setup (OEM unlock) in settings was not activated.
Is there any chance at all to reset this phone?
When I stick the phone to any PC device it says could not detect usb device properly. Its because the phone is "locked" I guess.
However going to download mode did not solve the problem either. ODIN just cant get any signal.
I tried on multiple win10 devices, installed KIES, did it only with samsung drivers but the phone does not get properly recognized as it should.
Help :/
S7 is 1.5 years old, he obviously knew the Google account login when he got the phone, which at max would be 1.5 years ago, recovery emails are used to create Google accounts, reset the Google account password from the web and sort it that way

That was a simple google account which he made and my father is having memory issues since he is over 60.
Its odd that you seem to know more about my issue right now with the phone. Induction is dangerous.
I even do not know at which MONTH or year I created my google account. I can just roughly guess more than 4 years old for sure but thats a stupid question Google is asking either.
So even with doing an induction here, we would fail ourselves.
PS: You wanna see the receipt? I smell great doubt in you!
similar problem

Flash stock firmware with ODIN 3.12.7, log into your Google account to remove FRP lock
