[Q] Looking for a (cheap!) 10.1" Tablet - General Questions and Answers

Hi all,
I'm hoping the combined wisdom of XDA members can help me choose a 10.1" tablet. I've already got three 7" ones, but I want something larger for reading comic books and watching the odd video.
I've been looking at this: (blast! I can't post links! It's the V100Q on Focalprice) but I can't find any info on it, other than a thousand and one other shops selling it! It looks like it'll suit me fine, and the price is great, but if there's no support for it, it might be too much of a punt.
I've also found this: (Ainol Hero 2) which is more expensive, but there's a lot of support out there for it.
I'm also a little worried about forward compatibility; I don't want to buy something today, only to find out tomorrow's update isn't supported! I read on another forum that [speculation] future Android versions will only work on quad-core devices [/speculation]. Doesn't sound right to me, but I'm not really "in the know".
So, which of the above do you guys think is best to go for? Or do you have any recommendations?
Cheers!
Ex.
P.S Not sure this is the right place for this topic, so please move if it's wrong.

I just purchased a GTab from 6th Ave for $354.24 incl shipping/tax. I am new to the Android market. Whats involved to get Android 3.0 loaded on the GTab and/or some other toys to get the GTab in optimum shape ?
Thanks in advance for suggestions.

I see you're new to the forum, so welcome.
May I suggest for now you do some more reading and less posting. Asking questions about Android 3.0 is a sensitive subject. There is a thread dedicated to Honeycomb. We need to let the developers focus on what they do best. All your questions can be answered by reading the forums.
What do you want to use it for? Gaming/ toy, business/ school? I would say jump on the search function in the general and apps/themes forums. Tons of posts about the best apps to use for the function your looking for. All sorts of cool info just dieing to make it into your brainpan, through your semicircular face holes, with just a few tappy-taps on the screen of your new toy.
Might I suggest starting by finding the galaxy tabs email app that was ported for our tabletd. Its the best and all you have to do is use the search tab in the apps and themes thread.
Good hunting
dekkars,
Actually, if you could go back to where some of us were when we started with the G-Tablet and poor software -- you'd be amazed at how good the software is now.
Truthfully, I have one tablet on TNT Lite (I like Vegan too) and one stock -- and if you can update to 3588 and maybe even the not yet out 3991 -- you may find that that ain't too bad for a stock tablet.
Take the stock unit 3588 or 3991 and put the stuff on it you like and need and you will be in good shape.
And if you want to experiment and play like the rest of us ----- go for it but plan on a learning curve as the other posters have said.

Great Tab

I'm not quite sure of the path of let me hear but this tablet works great. I have soft bricked I've had magic mismatch. And many times I've sat here wondering why I wasted 300 dollars on a useless, do nothing, piece of hammered whale crap. Needless to say I do not feel like that anymore. and it is all thanks to two developers... Robeet and Clemsin. 3 weeks ago when I first got this thing, All I could think of was Trying to get this g tab to do everything I wanted at supersonic speed. And I want it all now! I didn't wanna waste a lot of time so I thought why not just start at the top, and the top to me seem to be honeycomb 3.0. And since honeycomb was not available to us I thought the next best thing would be bottle of smoke. What a mistake that was! I didn't think I can make my crappy paper weight any worse, but now I felt like I had a crappy paper weight and no paper! I knew this not be the end because there's all kinds of people online enjoying their g tabs. I then thought to myself, I'm at xda forum. The brightest minds in the business are here, I'll just ask a question and my problems will be solved. So I posted my question Just knowing that I'll get help, And just like magic poof there was a reply. The devs username was something like ( goodintentions), and with me he had none. I thought an all together devastating online experience. But here I am a few days later, having the most incredible time, being able to even do more than I could with my laptop. I don't even have to touch my g tab anymore, I just speak and there I am, watching, listening, reading, and yes, even posting this!! So burn it into your brain. ( read everything) !! And most important donate to the developers because they don't get paid to help you, but if you think about it they already have. And I'm living proof with a great g tab.
Glad to hear you've had a change of heart after that "bos=bfd" kerfuffle.
what rom are you using now just wondering because i am ready to try something different.im on vegan tab rc1 currently
First of all, I'm the guy that created gtab for dummies website (look in my signature). There's a reason why people like myself recommend people AGAINST using the current honeycomb ports. For now, they are for testers only.
Secondly, you really should check out my website. The info there are not as cluttered.

[Q] Do you guys know if any ebook/doc reader support chinese?

Hi All!
I am new to the forums and am still trying to decide if I should jump the gun and buy a TF with the staples deal. I am thinking about getting due to the fact that my mother reads a lot on her HP PDA (in chinese) which is I feel is a bit too small for her. Since her birthday is coming up, I felt it would be a good present to get her the best overall tablet on the market right now. However, I just wanted to make sure there are apps or ebook readers that support chinese.
Thanks in advance!

AFAIK the bundled ASUS MyLibrary reader supports Chinese. If you PM me, maybe you can send me a file and I'll take screenshots
EDIT: Or just attach a file here.

[A510] Costom roms will there be any?

Hi all I just wanted to know if there will be any custom roms ? are there developers around ? because im thinking of getting the a510 or the asus tf300, but up to now the tf300 has custom roms already.
Sorry for my bad english
You're bringing up a good question, really, and my first thought is, yes.
But my second thought is rather a reminder and friendly meant plea, to any fellow Iconia Tab users onboard, to up the dedication and involvement in populating the threads, sharing tips and tweaks, information, app-tips, and whatnot's..
Cuz the more we actively show our own dedication to our devices in the forum, the more its likely for a skilled developer to show up and eyeball into our pit of tabs, and sight a large and steady enuff userbase to make it interesting to begin with.
One thing I do myself, is stealthly lurking around in cover of the dark and while most people is asleep, into the other devices specific parts of our forum, with a similar setup of our own Tegra3 platform, like the new Asus and Samsung tabs etc, and minutely sweep the walls and floors for stuff and leftovers, that I might be able to implement on my beloved 510
You never know whats good and nice, or smart-to-have, before you try. Some is ****, and simply doesnt work because of certain minor framework differences, but a fair bit of stuff actually do.
For instance, I've found great joy in the Asus SuperNote app, and found it to be fully enjoyable on our A510, and likely the A7* too. Even various device specific Live Wallpapers and widgets run fine, like the Asus weather widget, and so on.
Likewise, certain general tweaks for the ICS or Tegra3 is all but likely to play more or less nice in our tabs aswell.
What it does take thou, to make it even more interesting investing time in our own threads, is to share our findings, be it good or bad, silly or smart, and everything inbetween.
So lets populate the threads
The only general consesus to notice when posting our findings from other device threads, is to include a short informative description, and specificly, named credits to any users work you share. We must be friendly and smile while we nick thier stuff, right?
Sincerely,
Omnius
And ps.
Yes, its a long second answer to your question, but I believe its true.

In answer, yes, there will be custom roms. As a matter of fact, I have one almost ready for the a701.
The problem, is that currently, there is no working recovery for the 50x or the 70x. At least one that doesn't brick your tablet. This I am sure, will be fixed soon (as soon as some devs get their tablets back from repair )

This is a high-end tablet - I would be surprised if CyanogenMod doesn't eventually support it.

Adapting roms for the TF0310C (Intel processor) from the TF103C?

Hello all,
I just bought a Transformer Pad TF0310C (after a bunch of research it looks like it is the Best Buy exclusive version of the TF103C which unfortunately has an Intel quad core, 1gb ram, 16gb storage), I am guessing there probably are no roms, or really anything at all for this device (spent an hour or so yesterday trying to find any and all I really found were posts of people trying to figure out what this device equivalent was to try and see if the roms will work for it)? I wish I had researched a bit more before I bought it, but too little too late (it was only $85~ so no huge deal). Assuming there are no roms for it, is it possible to adapt a current rom over to this architecture?
I am familiar with linux, several programming languages (not an expert in any, but definitely know enough of each to get any job done that I have needed thus far), manipulating devices to suit my needs, etc, so I feel that if I had enough documentation and resources available I could get something going, as long as someone with more experience tells me that it is indeed at least possible. There are probably going to be quite a few more people who are going to be looking for them as well as this device is currently a "best seller" on woot.com as a refurb, so I am hoping to try and help not only myself, but possibly the community as a whole by trying to provide at least a rom for the device, if nothing else, it will be a great learning experience for me.
Thanks all!

Hey there, I have came across a few things. It looks like at least rooting is possible, it was found and tested that the process and tools to do so from the TF103C work on the TF0310C as well from a forum post I found that I had to use chromes google translate to read here : http://www.phonandroid.com/forum/comment-rooter-votre-asus-tf103c-k010-tf0310c-t101416.html I found it at work yesterday and was going to do more research but am still in the process of moving, so my evening was filled with nothing but moving boxes, lol. I will be doing more research though. I believe it is possible to install Clockworkmod recovery using the TF103C image as well, which might mean that if there are any roms for it, they might work for ours as well!
Here are a few things I found that may or may not end up being useful

http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/comprehensive-guide-unbricking-asus-t3106719
(This one, I read on another forum, can be used if you want to possibly install windows 8 on it.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/x98-air/general/teclast-x98-air-3g-tablet-9-7-2048x1536-t2913035
Thank you for the great info. Did you end up trying anything? I was thinking about trying the tutorial from the marshmallow- rom forum but am a little nervous.
