something that ive been always been wondering..
every time i get a new phone i seem to have bad luck with them when it comes to battery..(optimus 4x, nexus 4, nexus 5) i always see reviews and comments saying they get X screen on time and i always get X-2 screen on time and poor standby time
ive tried everything, changing roms, kernels, checking wakelocks turning wifi or 3g off when not used(LTE always off)
the most i ever seem to get is 3 hours and thats a really good day on low performance(underclocked) and i also barely game..
how in the hell do people get 5 hours screen time and complain about it.. meaning that they actually get more! and they say they game and browse alot.. im not only comparing to people online, i also compare with my friends who get good battery.. we dont seem to be doing anything different
does anyone know the problem/solution to this?!
I really recommend to go on stock firmware and DON'T install/restore any of ur apps.
Then see what's up.

It's all about looking at what is using your battery and mitigating as many of them as you can. Some people might find they can't live without many features of a phone and so will generally get less time then someone who is willing to sacrifice certain features or adjust their usage to improve battery time.
Sharing your full setup could help us help you... ROM, kernel and kernel settings, apps installed, tweaks made, wakelocks you're having, etc.
Personally, I'm coming to the N5 from the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, and I've been astounded with the battery life of this phone. It's the first time in over a year, that I don't feel the burning need to carry a charger with me everywhere I go. Additionally, this is the first device that's made me seriously consider NOT rooting.
As of this moment, I'm running rooted stock firmware, with Faux kernel 008m, and I'm getting spectacular results! I'd love to help you work this out.
As a point of comparison, this is a battery life readout I took two days ago... I can't complain at all about nearly 27 hours of uptime, with 4 hours SOT.

This is on T-Mobile LTE the entire time, GPS on, moderate usage, and only useless apps (for me at least) frozen, including the GEL launcher, the stock news app, Google Earth, the stock email app, and the non-English keyboards...that's it.

ive tried almost every rom-kernel combination there could possibly be all resulting the same.. my stock had OK-ish battery life but still not great
im on 100% now charging so theres nothing to upload and my wakelocks show nothing just maps.. and i forgot to mention that i usually turn off location as well.. i have no problem changing to stock but most people get good battery life with roms too..i dont mind which kernel either cause every kernel will be really fast with the snapdragon 800
current rom liquid smooth
kernel - just upgraded to faux an hour ago.. phone is heating and percentage dropping fast(not that the previous ones were great)
no tweaks
kernel settings
fast fast charge, eco mode and intelliplug- all on

I recommend do this on a stock ROM, but can work on any.
Have your phone set up normally. Charge it full, reboot in "safe mode" and don't open any apps. Just let it do its thing for a few hours, or over night. See how the battery life is now. It should improve. If so, you got something 3rd party killing it.
Turn off location reporting and location history. It'll improve your battery life dramatically without making any noticeable impact on the phone's capabilities (including Google Now). I also recommend disabling Google+ if you don't use it.
^Great suggestion!
@namnam123 did you have heat issues with the phone, prior to flashing Liquid or Faux? From my Galaxy Nexus days, I remember heat problems being caused (occasionally) by an improper/nonexistent wipe during flashing. You cleared dalvik and cache at least, correct?

The point is to see if the battery still drains as quickly without any third-party apps or mods. If not, then the problem isn't the phone, but rather something you installed on it. Some apps can run in the background and drain battery power even when you're not using them. Some mods like custom kernels can also worsen battery life.

yes i always wipe the cache and dalvik cache
Make sure wifi scanning is off too. And ages ago usb fast charge used to cause issues with massive battery drain when the screen was on. So turn it off and see if it helps. I am talking years ago tho. It was literally meant to be turned on when plugging in and leaving the phone alone. Then disabled when taking off charge
Also post some screen shots of your battery stats

I have tried just about EVERY ROM. And I still am only getting around 6 hours of battery life. Is it the ROM, the dumbass user (me), or something else. I keep hearing the fantasy stories of people getting 15 hours on battery while using the phone all day long. Can someone point me in the right direction as far as ROM / Kernel combo that truly does this? Currently on the latest CM7 Nightly and don't like it at all.
I've been having the same problem lol. I'm currently on MIUI 1.9.23 and using Trinity ELP kernel.
I've had it on for about 6 hours and I'm down to 65%. I mean it's not terrible, but considering the phone was in airplane mode for 1.5 hours of that 6 hours, essentially the phone has really only truly been on for 4.5 hours. so I'm losing about 9%/hour.
I've literally tried everything I can to increase battery life but it just won't happen. Let me know if you figure anything out.
Hey you know I have had this phone for about a week, and I have tried all these roms on here and to be honest, the only one that does what I need it to do is the tweaked OTA version. As long as I have root and rom manager I am good. My Battery on any device does not last as long people say. So many things have to be considered. Like whether i am moving into 2g networks or how much i am using it.
The best thing for a battery though is to over charge it for an extra bit and then reset the stats. After dont recharge till it turns off by itself. Then do another over charge.
So by overcharging you mean leave it plugged in even after it says unplug it to conserve battery life
Yeah, when its plugged in it will charge continually and making sure its really fully charged.
I noticed this with my Milestone2, it would say done charging and it wouldnt last very long. So I read up on Battery charging and it said you should leave it charged for an extra hour or so. Only when trying to reach full battery stats.
Of course its ok to use it whenever but once in a while you should do a full drain and then full charge
---------- Post added at 08:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:38 PM ----------
Plus, most of the people prob on here and doing everything under the sun to thier phones to tweak them. That could be a big reason why the batteries arent lasting so long.
Today I went through 3 different rom changes while at work (3 hours). After finally getting it back to where I was before work, my battery was at 23 percent!
Buy an extended battery off ebay or amazon for around 9-12$ Stock battery i can sometimes get about 12 hours depending on what i use my phone that day. But those 3500mah batteries should at least get you 18-24hrs for sure. Just make sure you cycle thru the battery a few times so it can start performing it's best.
Just put the Miui Rom on. Noiw am getting hang ups in Market on Wifi. I go to download something and it just sits there at starting download Any thought on how I can remedy this issue?
Arrgh...would have been nice if T-Mo and LG had put a working product out to begin with LOL!

It would be helpful to see your battery usage screen. I'll paste mine below. I'm also on CM7 (recent nightly) and I get good battery life IMO. Right now I'm at 8+ hours and I still have 76% left, but I've been at work all day so I've only used it for a few texts and calls and some brief web browsing. Typically I'm a very heavy user, always on, and with the stock battery and that kind of usage I only get 5-6 hours. I have a 4500mah battery and with that I can get up to 2 days of my normal heavy usage with that battery. It just looks like a brick and some people don't like that.
Are you a very heavy user? If so and your phone is constantly on then 6 hours may be all you can get. I think some of the claims people make are a bit misleading because there are so many factors that will influence your battery life.
Here's my screenshot.

You should give miui another go with stock kernel and setcpu screen off profile, i get pretty good life.
X
Disable bluetooth, disable GPS, and turn the screen brightness to 0% lol
@ phBurks, I am a very heavy user, Constantly relying on GPS as well as phone and mail since I am on the road all day long. I was hoping for better battery life. May have to get one of those extended batteries mentioned above.
@fcisco13 I'll give Miui another go. Where do I get setcpu? If its in the market I am hosed LOL. Market is hanging up on me all of the time.
And I cannot see any of my APN settings no matter what ROM I use.
Based on my own person experience the only way to get +8hrs is if I'm on WiFi. On cellular....forget it.
Minimum for me on MIUI is 12 hours... With a good amount of usage, and HSPA+... I use SetCPU though, it helps alot. Best application for saving battery life IMO.

You may be able to squeeze out a couple more hours if you use setcpu (from the Market lol). My suggestion though, if you're that heavy of a user, is you'll either need to keep your phone charging in the car (make sure you have at least a 1amp charger ... I use a 2amp charger in my car to make sure its charging at its max rate), or buy an extended life battery. I recommend the extended battery. There's a 3500mah one over in the accessories section that's pretty cheap and sounds like it works pretty well. I have the 4500mah one from Mugen Power. Its a little more costly but it also lasts a few hours longer than the 3500mah one.

+1 Especially if your kernel supports undervolting, i can successfully uv -100 up to 1100mhz, i rarely need to go over that speed anyways and know i can get a crazy high quadrant score if i overclocked anyways. Settings i have righ tnow for setcpu are:
222mhz - 100 uv
up to 819mhz -100uv
Gets me easily 6-10hrs with lots of usageon stock battery.
It varies. I find that using a CM7 cooked ROM have terrible battery life. I'm sorry, just from my personal experience. Only other app that kills the battery is the GPS.
A Stock Cooked ROM gave me fantastic battery life. But.... its stock, and some things in Stock just can't stand. Also, had random reboots. Maybe I messed around with too much crap in my SD Card. Who knows. If I really wanted to, I could make a ROM stable on my phone. But just can't stand the Stock ROM.
Stock 2.3.3 = 15 hours moderate use
CM 2.3.5 = 8 hours moderate use
Regardless, if you want a long lasting battery, don't get an android. No phone is perfect. Only my battery extender 3500mha but I end up with a PHAT Phone. Plus its not protected by my rubber case.
Thats the only reason I don't use the battery extender.
After completely wiping my phone and installing whitehawkx celebration MIUI 1.9.23 I get awesome battery life. I think before since you had to "hack" 3G to get it working on whitehawkx MIUI was why it wasn't working great.
I'm on the whitehawkx kernel that comes with miui, whichever one that is. I'm going to give trinity a try. Then again, I have no apps installed except for facebook with notifications off and auto-sync off. But good news is my phone is not constantly awake now.

Give Eagleblood 2.3.3 1.07 a try, good battery life with its own kernel. I tried with Faux GB kernel gave me random SOD, and reboot, also took way too long to boot too.

Just installed this ROM. Will report back later what the results are. So far so good.
Does anyone know of a good clock / weather widget that doesn't use too much battery life?
Hey good day guys, Just looking for some Battery life optimizations tips and tricks, my phone is used heavily as it is my work/personal/entertainment device, Right now Im getting around 12 hrs out of it. Anyone have any ideas to boost this?
Info:
SGH-I727R
Rooted Stock Rogers ICS 4.0.4
SetCPU (Powersaving)
JuiceDefender Ultimate (Aggressive)
Bloatware removed(with some non-essential services Frozen)
you seem to have covered the basics, you could also undervolt and keep your screen brightness low if its not a hassle.
you could try supercharger http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276 I have no clue how well it affects out phones never really had anything to compare it to.
If your a heavy user you could always consider getting either extended battery or spare batteries with a charger and just switch whenever you need.
Aside from getting extended battery, other things you can do is changing the kernel to a tweaked one such as this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1701189
You can set wifi/data to shut off while not in use (I use this one).
Some people get good battery life with SkyICS (Custom ROM) and I have actually have gotten 3 1/2 days of light/standby use from it which is pretty good.
I personally use CM9 with a custom kernel but with everything tweaked, brightness, undervolt, disconnect when not in use, no auto sync etc... I get about about 15-20hr light/mild use, I did manage 2 days with light/mild/standby use and maybe 1%/hr standby drain. :good:

I get like 17-20 hours with moderate use a few calls when running stock (including the various leaked stock ROMs)
When I flash a custom ROM, seemingly any custom ROM, My battery life falls to about 8-11 hours, pretty much half of what I had been getting. It's extremely noticeable, I can practically watch the numbers count down as I'm using it.
I know this is not normal. You can convince yourself 12 hours is great even with all the power saver stuff on, but our phones should be doing a lot more and we should be asking why they aren't.
Standby time is especially dismal in my current configuration. It loses just as much as when the phone is in use.
Search around, it's been answered before. Yesterday I got over 20 hours with almost 3 hours of screen time. I lose about 1% per hour when idle, roughly.

Or, better yet.. tell "us"
I've been pulling my hair out searching xda, other forums, google etc for answers to why i'm getting poor battery performance with a rom with virtually no use vrs 17+ hours on stock with moderate use.
I use juice defender, and nothing else and "cell standby" and "phone idle" are the two biggest issues killing my phone right now. 25% down in just 5 hours, and i've not used my phone for one thing except a quick 1 minute call - radio's are off except to check email once an hour. It's ridiculous.
Once search is working, this should help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?do=finduser&u=4394011
quick question, do u guys give custom roms a few charge cycles (aka days) before u judge battery life. The best I've ever gotten was 24 hours with 4 hours on screen time with gb based tpc v3, heavily customized. That being said the first two days I wuz getting less than 10 hours... just sayin
p.s. that wuz without the use of crap apps like juice defender

Nope.
This very issue was brought up in my last thread asking for help. I didn't know JD would be making things worse, or that it would take a few days for things to settle out.
Now that I know these things are normal, like getting 10 hours for a few days i feel a little better about the situation.
Nope, I flash a new nightly almost every day, and I still get 18-20 hours that day without a problem. If your phone isn't deep sleeping when idle, it's chewing battery, this is the most common battery drain problem that I've seen.

I have given it a few days in the past and for sure it makes a difference, but at this point I can tell right away if it's not working right. The battery life is literally like 30% of what it should be, I can just watch the numbers tick down.
The dead giveaway is that it loses battery as fast in idle as when it's in use. Which says wakelock problem like others have said, but I don't know how to fix it.
I've also noticed performance is worse in CM9 than in UCLE2/UCLF3, and that seems counter-intuitive, but there might be some performance tweaks in the TouchWiz ROM that CM isn't incorporating.
I'm using a stock 2.3.6 with some tweaks.
I froze all the bloatware and services I don't use, NFC/VPN for example.
I use faux123 .10m kernel and underclocked to 192Mhz/1.02Ghz and undervolted by 50mv - http://faux.androidro.ms/sky-kernel-010m.zip
Flashed Rogers radio for unlocked RIL - http://www.m-s-j.net/skyrocket/Radio_RIL__I727RUXKJ7.zip
Set it for only 4G and no LTE via *#2263#* and choosing WCDMA 1700Mhz
I haven't payed attention to my battery time/display on but it is definitely better than stock.
Also, if you use the Facebook app, that seems to be the biggest battery drain between it syncing contacts and always GPSing when you open it.
SetCPU profile for incall, screen off, temperature, and or battery level(increments of ten)
Also freeze or disable unused services that use cpu resources
Set your screen brightness lower
screen timeout to 15 secounds or 30
If youre really having a big issue try disabling background data although you shouldnt go that far.
I've used stock GB and ICS and have had great results by turning off LTE and also disabling WiFi during sleep. I can get nearly two days on regular use, browsing, phone calls, emails and MP3 playback.
So after 3 days of testing apps, applying a kernel, setting CPU and more,
(CPU ondemand, Governor: SmartassV2, Kernel Cymbaline 1.5)
I still only getting the same battery life as before about 12 hours, I don't understand how some people are reporting 20 hrs on a single charge with moderate usage. I looked over the wake lock apps and none seem to be stopping deep sleep, unless I have like the music player on. I don't know what else to do, any ideas?
besides addition batterys or extended batterys. And please try to be as detailed with apps/settings as possible to achieve the amazingly 20hr mark on moderate use.

Its pretty much subjective as to what people say, everyone will have their own definition of light use. When I say light use I mean, check facebook, twitter, instagram, tapatalk, boom done. Medium use for me would be like browsing the web and maybe playing a quick game of diamond blast lol. Heavy use for me would be playing a game for an hour+, using GPS, watching youtube/video/movies etc... So it will really depend on use. I've been playing around with custom kernels and usually look for ones that has UV or undervolting, downclocking is also good and using an efficient governor, some are good with efficiency and doesnt use more than it needs, say I play a streaming program like pandora and it sticks to 192mhz rather than blasting to 1.5ghz etc... So each tweak will add up.
I was driving yesterday for about 3hr with gps on and was browsing the web a lot on LTE and it drained my battery and got maybe 9hr used that day. On a regular day with "light/mild" use I can get 20hr light 15hr mild 9-12hr gaming/browsing all day. Browsing also eats power when you're in an LTE area as it drains a little bit more. So really it depends on how much time you put into tweaks and know what you're using.

Like this one for example, longest battery I had so far with very light use. Meaning I would only check for notifications and was barely on it for more than 10min at each time. Wifi was set to disconnect when it wasnt in use. And this was using an older version of SkyICS so no doubt its pretty good with battery life and doesn't drain a ton when on idle.
This was yesterdays pic, why was like 10%~/hr? I had GPS on the whole time and the radio was using LTE speeds so by the end of the afternoon/night I was already down to 5% battery life. And this is on CM9 with custom kernel but it was set to 192mhz/1.8ghz so yeah settings will make a big difference.
:good:
I was always having the problem of when I would turn my device off for the night when I turned it on in the morning I would have lost anywhere between 15% and 40% of my battery. The easiest solution (only if I remembered to) was to pull the battery every night after I turned the device off, if I remembered. Well this was an annoyance for both having the battery drain if I forgot and to have to remove the batter every night and then put it back in every morning. I know it seems like I am just complaining with that last statement but I just like to have a phone that just works.
Now, back to the problem. I was always running either a port of MIUI or a CyanogenMod Stable release with both 'stock' kernels or one of faux's for CyanogenMod or morfic's for MIUI (as they got along better for some odd reason). Well, no matter the combination of kernel type (OC, UV, or Stock) I always had the battery drain problem and stability issues (depending). Then when the new baseband was released I installed it after I found out that the CyanogenMod RC3 supported the new baseband to see if that would fix the problem, just it still didn't work even with different kernels.
I was starting to get fed up with these issues so I decided to try one last thing: I used the LG support tool and went back to completely stock! I did root it with SuperOneClick though so I could use all the apps that I was using before (Titanium Backup to restore all of them). I have been running my phone like this for two weeks now and have never once had the battery drain problem. And what is even better is I am getting an average of 40 hours of use out of one charge in and out of WiFi with WiFi calling and 4G when not on WiFi (mind you I am not a really heavy user). I hope this helps!
Well, I know this is a long post but I figured some back story would be good for those to see if you have had the same issues to be able to see if this solution could work for you too. Please click Thanks if this helped you.
So, It sounds like the custom roms issues then. I had the same issues and did evevy thing you have done except using stock rom.
Could you post a picture of your battery usage?
Might have to try that I don't know how long I could stay stock tho

I've had the toughest time with this phone. I originally bought it from a guy off craigslist to replace my wife's MyTouch 3G. It was completely stock when I bought it and after messing around with it for a few hours I decided the phone seemed to be in good working condition. I have plenty of experience rooting/flashing the MyTouch 3G and my Samsung Vibrant and I have never had any problems. So I read around here for the LG G2x and went ahead and rooted it/ flashed ROM and soon after I updated to the newest baseband. I started noticing that the battery drained really quickly, to the point that my wife couldn't use her phone for long. She would play Scramble with Friends for maybe an hour and the phone would be dead. I tried flashing other ROMs to no avail. I went back to stock ROM and unrooted it but the battery still was terrible.
I started thinking maybe it is the battery, so I bought a 3500mAh battery off Amazon, but no luck. I have searched and read many many threads about this phone trying to fix this issue. I've tried downgrading the baseband but was never able to get it done. I'm sorta stumped on what to do next. The phone seems to hold a charge magnificently if nobody uses it lol. I charged the 3500mAh battery to 100% and then I left the phone for 24 hours and it was still at 99%, but as soon as you use the phone it dies quickly. My wife already gave up on the phone and I ended up getting her a Samsung Blaze which has been fantastic. Now I have to fix this phone and sell it or use it myself, but I don't know what to do. Any ideas or detailed instructions? I'm tired of searching for help on this issue, was about to make a new thread about this when I saw your thread.
Stock has good battery life but I actually got the best on EB 2.3.7. Decided I would try an ICS ROM again but it seems they all burn up battery like crazy and there's no way (that I've seen at least) to turn off background data which I've noticed is the biggest culprit as it drains the battery fairly quickly when the phone is idle.
This ROM by BuROM is really good. It's only slightly modded Stock and gets great battery life because of that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661610
Another problem may be that you are using different services on the stock kernel. If the battery is draining really fast when there is a network connection then something is probably constantly on the network. I always (meaning sometimes) test ROMs on airplane mode overnight, on WiFi only and on 4G only just to see what their drain times are. The stock kernel is pretty good but the newer CM7 kernels are fine too. I only get about a 1 hour difference after 2 days on a ROM. For some ROMS the first day is horrible as the software is doing all sorts of things. After about 2-3 resets and as many fix permissions it usually settles down into a similar battery drain to the stock kernel.
@Kingfanpaul: If that G2X drains the battery with only BuROM installed and gapps (without any other apps) then it's a hardware problem. I'd NVflash stock, check APN settings and then run it for a day to see what happens.

I have the EXACT same problem. I've already gone through 5 different batteries but still cant manage to get my G2x to last more than 8 hours and thats best case scenario with VERY lite use. Your post is making me think it's these custom roms. Going to try stock 2.3.4 and hopefully I get the same result as you.

What is your screen on time? I'm on latest stock CM7 with stock CM kernel and I get 2+ of screen on time easily with a 1year+ old battery. Battery depends on how you use your phone too. mAh and kernel can only do so much.

Something odd that I have noticed is that while my phone has more consistent battery life, some of the issues that I have had with this phone are due to a bad device. My phone tends to go crazy every so often and just burn through the battery to the point of over heating. From what I can tell this is just a problem at the hardware level with my device, so while sometimes going to back to stock does help the battery if it keeps up it may be more than just the ROM.
Try to turn mobile data off / wifi off ? I have similar problem with battery drain... Right now, at deep sleep the phone sometimes works as expected : 4-7mAh, but sometimes it drains way higher : 20-50mAh.
Not sure my on screen time. I know its definitely less than an hour. I'm averaging about 5 to 6 hours of use. About 20% drain per hour on light/medium use and 10% a hour when idle.

I used to have this issue on my old g2x even on stock roms and it seemed hopeless no matter what I did it came back. Then that phone got run over by a car. The one I have now doesn't have this issue at all on any rom or kernel....well.. almost. Some kernels are sorta battery hungry, but nothing like what I had before.
So you think it just may be a hardware issue? Bad phone?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
I guess it's possible. Have you tried a new battery?
Edit: o. I see lol
The things I tried were the nullifier and the other wipe tool who's name escapes me... nvflash based. By mansa_noob. And the day it got ran over I had flashed buru's rom and I was hoping that took care of it but I didn't get the chance to find out.
Hey guys.. I'm new here and I plan to stick around..
I just bought a used (for 1 year) Galaxy SL from my friend at a throwaway price. It's in superb condition and everything. Its been a few days, and here's the stuff I've done till now -
1. Immediately upgraded to DDLF2 (India) using Kies. Found some bugs after upgrade. For example, the promised "Video Snapshot" feature wasn't there. Also, the phone rebooted randomly many times in the day and battery ran out quickly (after about 3-4 hrs of moderate usage)
2. Next day, after noticing the weirdness, I decided to flash a custom rom. I heard from many, many sources that Frankenstain Mod and the Bam kernel, along with DDLF2, are the perfect combination for stable performance, nice looks and great battery life. So, following some instructions, I rooted my phone and flashed the rom and kernel. I was (am) REALLY impressed with the final result. I went ahead and installed apps, played games, showed off etc etc..
But sadly, the battery problem still remains. Of course, it has definitely improved a little, but the maximum it can stand till now is abt 6 hours (light-moderate use). Adding to the misery, I am a heavy user. I love playing games, composing music and sometimes doing homework in my phone. I installed JuiceDefender, SetCPU, Battery Saver Pro (which helped in increasing abt an hour). I listened to almost any piece of advice I got. I read through these forums too.
My previous phone running bada OS (Samsung Wave 525) had awesome battery life, which lasted for 2-3 days of HEAVY usage. Of course, I can't expect the same from an Android device, but seriously, is it this bad? And why is this happening? Is it because of -
1. The mod/kernel?
2. Worn-out battery? (i doubt it, every app states that the battery is "healthy")
3. Some internal problem in the phone?
Or is this just something every owner of this phone faces?
Sorry for the long post. Help is greatly appreciated. :fingers-crossed:
Iam on ddlf2

1. Its not the mod /kernel. Since I use the XDA-Bam kernel 15 cr5. So far no issues and the battery lasts at least full day. with heavy usage.
2. May be. Even I doubt it.
3. Not sure with the internal problem, but i doubt that there wont be any internal problem as well since you are using heavy applications
with out any lag.
suggestion
1. Do battery calibration
2. Recharge full until you get 100%
3. Clear the battery stats with cwm
4 again drain the battery completely.
5. Recharge it full to 100%
see if it works for you
Press thanks if it helps you
I have calibrated my battery already. It had helped in solving a major problem (wrong display of battery stats). But battery life hasn't been improved in any way.

Perhaps your battery's dead.try usb port charging.
As a side note, my battery lasts Atleast two days on Frank mod after moderate use.

Yes, it's like that. Most people say "heavy usage", but they don't imagine that people actually use their phone all the time. I'm always streaming music via 3G, reading news articles, auto-sync on 24/7, social-networking, and sometimes playing games. My phone doesn't make it through the day.
People that claim that their phones are lasting 2-3 days usually don't have a data plan, don't use wifi that much, don't play games, and don't use facebook. That's great for them, but I like to use my phone, and when you're making the most out of your Android, it'll run out of juice in 6 hours.
All Android phone are like this. If you're going to use a smartphone, you're going to have to have a charger nearby all the time.

Well said man. Nice to see people admitting android being backward in the battery department. I guess battery technology hasn't advanced much yet, compared to smartphones themselves. Manufacturers have to choose between a thin, sleek design with abysmal battery and a "fat" one with more reliability. I guess they prefer the former, which is leading to problems like this...
And yeah, regarding usb charging, i've seen that it doesn't charge as fast as normal wall charging... Is it normal too?

Yes, that's normal. The voltage is about have as much, so it takes about twice as long to charge via USB cable.

Totally agree with you...mine last less than half a day with normal use similar to yours..it will only last around a day plus if it's in 100% sleep mode
as in my opinion, everything is right with your battery.
u are using ur phone fully, so don't expect to much.
try the better battery stat app, it will show real stones in juice eaters.
I switched from CM9 to GB (Frank mod) mainly due to battery drain. But did not make a difference. However if i keep data off, battery lasts much longer, otherwise it drains around 30% at night. I am pretty sure XXKPQ was much better but don't want to go back. Anyone have other suggestions.

best way is to switch to ddlf2 or xwlf2, bam kernel last version. imo, of course.
and main thing - try to find biggest eater. betterbatterystats will help you.

here is the answer. lookout antivirus. it keeps your device alive instead of sleeping properly. you really need it?
magic locker is not a friend either. try to disable them first, make some discharge cycles without them and post the screens with screen time as well.
different problem
i dont have drainage problem...bt my phone takes a loooooooooot of time to get charged..... i have to charge for about 6-7 hours for the battery to fully charged frm 10%... i did not have this problem befor i used DDLF2
My suggestion: do not install antivirus apps, they drain the battery like hell! For the night battery endurance, just enable the deep sleep function (I use No frills cpu, you can enable the deep sleep from the settings menu) and set the governor and scheduler as you wish.
Battery drain is no more a problem for me since I'm on the Frank's MOD.
Remember to do a full recharge (with the device turned off) and a wipe battery stats for optimize the recharging time.
Cheers
wakelocks means your phone being unable to go to sleep mode for certain periods of time (usually because of retarded apps).
Antivirus on android/linux = scam.
that 3G Watchdog crap, do you really need it? (is the battery drainage worth it?)
I would say your battery duration seems normal, considering you're actually using your phone nonstop plus there's those crap background apps running all the time.
BUT if you wanna be sure about it, why don't you make a nandroid backup (using recovery mode), then factory reset? That should get you back to a clean ROM installation, then calibraty and test your battery overnight (of course make sure your phone is going to sleep mode and is using proper cpu governor). This is the most reliable way to see if your battery drain is related to usage, or just a faulty battery. Go clean, let it sleep, see how much battery it drains.
After this, restore the nandroid backup and clean your phone accordingly (remove crap apps or whatever).
Good luck!
for those on CM9, search for alpha 11 kernel in the general discussion thread...flash that over CM9 alpha 14
i get 3 days of battery on low usage......its pretty similar to ddlf2 in terms of battery drain for me atleast.....and i get ics too....
you can also use droidwall to block all the applications which use internet wihout any reason. they will block un-authorised access to internet and will surely cut a good volume of data usage but remember this works only if ur device is rooted
Hi I'm on paranoidandroid based on cm10 alpha3 and the battery life is at its best 14 hs!!!!
I will try some alpha 4 and check if battery life is improved, else some GB
Yesterday a post was made to /r/nexus5 on reddit about how battery life was getting worse as time went on. Over 100 people replied saying that their phone was getting worse battery life as well. Here's the link: http://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/1yxj2g/battery_life_went_from_insane_to_terrible/ The most people were able to find out was that there was a problem with the Android OS process. Are you guys having similar issues? And do you have any fixes?
Batteries do lose their max charge over time. We're now 6 months aged for the first purchased devices, so it could simply be those batteries are starting to age. They still have years to go, but a brand new battery will always be impressive.
It's one reason why I silently laugh at people bragging about great battery life for a brand new device. of course it will get good life, it's a new battery running optimized software that isn't pushing the hardware as hard as the software 2 years into a device life cycle.
posted by people that know nothing..
as time goes on, you install more and more apps. many apps arent coded very well, and have other issues. anyways, people get more and more of these crappy apps that will drain more and more battery without you even using them. anywho, not a problem here. i get pretty much the exact same battery life now as i did months ago.

great battery life for an "old" device, 5-6 hours screen on time every single day. the batteries life doesnt reduce that quick, and generally youll change phones(within 2 years) before you see the life of your battery shorten.

6 months isn't going to be noticeably less max charge unless the battery was severely abused. Also the phone has been out for 4 months and most are younger.
Here's something to think about: Usage patterns change. People install new apps.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Indeed usage patterns play a massive part. And some of which can be completely out of your control.
At home on WiFi I'll get 6-7 hours of screen time.
At home on hspa I'll get 5-6
At work on hspa I'll get 3-4
So at worst case scenario I can lose half of my normal battery usage just based on the carrier performance.

I get about 3-4 hours SoT daily... If anything, that has gone up since I got my device (one of the first batches shipped in US).
I wish I could get 5-7 SoT, with numbers like that, I'm beginning to think I'm doing something very very wrong
Point is... I have one of the first phones shipped out, and my battery life has stayed exactly the same.
High battery usage by Android OS is probably good indication that there are some wakelocks. It has nothing to do with battery being "older".
My battery is great from day one.
Captain obvious mode now:
Posting SoT is pointless and proves nothing. It really depends on what you are doing when screen is on. It is really obvious that it is not the same if you read some book with 5% brightness or play a game.
My SoTs go from 2h up to 7h, depending on usage...

My SoTs go from 2h up to 7h, depending on usage...

LOL. Yep. Give me a day and I'll show you screenies of ten hours of SOT. It'll be BS because to get those results I have to set my phones brightness to less than stock. I also have to set screen timeout to 30 minutes. As well I need to remember to turn the damn screen back on after 30 minutes. I also have to make sure my phone is in my sock drawer doing nothing when the screen is on. It'll still show 10 hours SOT though.

Only 10? Think you could do much higher in those conditions.

Yeah, the common problem.... My battery just is used for 5 hours.
But there are some fixs to follow:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168036
I posted my usual screen times on a typical day for me.
Typically I do the same things which are a lot of xda and viewing the verge and YouTube. A few calls and texts.
And from my experience the difference between being at home with WiFi off and being at work with WiFi off is that my battery usually lasts nearly twice as long at home.
I was trying to get across the message that your carriers signal strength plays a massive role on how long your battery lasts.
So say if a mast went down and you get bumped onto one a bit further away (they don't rush when fixing these things unless it's a critical one). You would have done nothing and all of a sudden your battery life has started taking a massive hit.

I'm also having this problem with the android os draining my batter And this started happening within the last week or so.I used to be able to easily get about 30 hours out of my phone, now I'm only able to get about half that. As you can see in the 4th pic, android os has been the cause of a 3h45m partial wakelock, which doesnt seem right to me and is probably the cause of most of the battery drain. the last 2 pics are something that also seems weird to me, as google accounts manager shouldnt take 4% in about an hour. I dont even know why its running that long. Though i know how to quick fix the account manager drain (simply disable it) the android os isnt that simple as i dont know how to see exactly what apps or processes are making it cause a partial wakelock.
Im on omnirom using chaos kernel 9.2

I had a similar issue a while back, and in the end it was Google location reporting within Google now service. Try to switch location reporting off but leave location history on and see if it helps. Also choose Location mode to battery saving.
Turning off location reporting does not affect Google Now functionality...
It can be something else in your case, but this problem was common...

One thing I've noticed as a weirdness is the cache of a phone can get stale and so it gets into some weird loop that drains battery or something and clearing the cache improves battery life. Also sometimes apps can develop bugs or new wakelocks when you do an update so sometimes you have to stay on top of it to track it.

If I did not use some preventative measures to prolong battery life I would maybe get 14-16 hours in a day of usage, I always left wifi on, bluetooth even when not connected, data, force LTE, etc. I did not care because I charge my phone every night. I just find it silly if I get a day usage out of my phone and it is at 50% well assuming you use the phone the exact same as the last day you will use another 50% and it will be dead by the time you get to your charger.
