If the issue persists I would contact the service provider.

Check your APN, it might not be set up properly. I don't know the exact one you need to be using for your plan/service, but I'm sure a quick Google with your specific setup will prove useful.

Nexus 5 and Metro PCS

Hey guys, sorry if this question seems a bit silly but I'm rather new to the nexus world and don't know too much about Metro PCS and what their network requires.
I'm looking to buy my mom the nexus 5 since she really needs a new phone and she is on Metro PCS. Would she experience any issues on Metro PCS's LTE network or anything like that if I grab the N5 that's available in the play store now? I do believe that Metro PCS is currently running on T-Mobile's network, but I need to be sure.
Also, what kind of SIM card will the N5 require? Hopefully it's a micro so there won't be a need to head over to a metro pcs store to get a correct one.
Thanks!

N5 uses a MicroSIM card.As far as the other questions you ask, I cannot answer them confidently.
MetroPCS' LTE is TMobile's LTE.

Yes, microSIM. Also if your Mom is currently using a CDMA/LTE device from Metro she will probably need a new SIM.
The only thing to be aware of - unlike T-Mobile itself, MetroPCS SIMs require you to register the device IMEI with Metro and then they lock it to your device. So if she swaps it to a new phone, it may not work until Metro gets it properly registered.
What APN settings worked for MetroPCS and your Nexus 5?
I went to a MetroPCS store today with the Nexus 5 I bought from the Google Play store. I only had about 30 minutes to mess around with the APN settings. but I was unable to connect to their network with the test microSIM card the worker had. I got the LTE bars to show up, but the connection never changed from the white "I'm still trying to connect" mode to the solid blue "I'm connected" bars. If anyone has a successful experience with this, please let me know what APN settings you used. I know it is an unlocked phone and should work, but the Nexus 5 wan't in the MetroPCS system as a compatible phone (which I assume is due to the fact that it just launched a few days ago).

FYI, I don't think KitKat uses the white/blue distinction anymore. Did you test using apps or the browser?

You are correct. There is no white/blue distinction. I've only had the Nexus 5 for a few hours and have been used to Cyanogenmod on my Nexus 4 for the last year. Yes, I did test apps and the browser. I got errors in the apps and the browser wouldn't load any websites.
I am currently on Solavei (and it works on the Nexus 5) and have switched carries 5 times in the last year, so I'm quite familiar with APN settings. I appreciate the idea though. Sometimes it's a simple answer.

Okay good to know. I have less experience with Metro PCS but it seems that T-Mobile wants to keep them a bit more locked down.

[Q] Nexus 5 on Sprint - tether/hotspot?

Hello, for the lucky folks who have already received their Nexus 5, has anyone been able to enable tethering/hotspot (without additional charges from Sprint)? Since root is available, hopefully hotspot is just a flash away - but I couldn't find any relevant thread in the Android development forum (or in the Q&A forum)
Edit: Thanks @ss4rob for trying this (link) out on the Sprint N5, and reporting that it works. And of course, thanks to @yakman66 for suggesting the fix in that original thread for the T-Mo
ss4rob said:
Yes, this works on Sprint as well - just did it on my rooted Nexus 5 from the Google Play Store and I am connected with my Mac as we speak - nice find!
As suggested above, I added a new entry to the "global" table called "tether_dun_required" with a value of 0 in the /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db file. I copied it over to my Mac using ES File Explorer in root mode, and copied it back after editing in sql, making sure to preserve rw-rw---- and system:system attributes, and then restarted. I didn't have to edit any other settings - done. Thanks!

Would be nice! I hope this can be fixed soon.
I've got mine, but sprint won't activate the nexus 5 without a sim. Sims aren t released until Nov 8th. You can order a sim from an international chat room in sprint. No one has even gotten data to work so we can't answer the question

I activated my N5 today on sprint with LTE all day today. Sprint is not activating 32gb N5, just 16gb.

There is no 100% clarification either way as of yet. Here is a guy that claims he activated his 32GB N5 on Sprint:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47123506&postcount=97
The theory has been since Sprint is only selling the 16GB N5, only those MEIDs are currently in Sprint's database. However, it seems some 32GB N5's are going through as well.
I'll have a SIM from Sprint on Wednesday and try to activate my 32GB N5 online. It that doesn't work, I'll be hitting up 1 of 3 local Sprint stores.
I cant get usb or wifi to work. Wifi the devices connect however unable to go to any sites. Anyone had better luck?
According the recent updates to this thread, other users are reporting that they are able to activate 32GB versions on Sprint now.
Does Wi-Fi Tether for root work or does the built in tethering option work?
I'm wondering the same.. don't want to sell my S4 until I know I can tether with the nexus 5 which is out for delivery at this moment. .woohoo!!! I'm going to use my S4 sim to activate my 32gb nexus 5... I heard it will work.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I managed to activate my 32gb last night with sprint chat support. First thing... Go to settings and manually choose LTE mode. Mine said LTE, but it was not actually chosen until I chose it manually. Then put in your Sim and get on chat with sprint. When you give them the imei number... Also give them the serial number from the box... Not the serial number from in settings. They will figure it all out from there. I had to program my phone.. Setting the mdn and msid manually...but only because the LTE wasn't turned on originally.
PS... After the programming... It will change to global mode... So you may have to set it back to LTE one more time.

same here.... my Nexus 7 shows "connected" (to the hotspot from my N5), and gets an IP address too, but the wifi icon on the Nexus 7 stays gray (doesn't become blue to show data transfer) - and I have no internet access.
Crap!
Getting same results here. Does rooting solve this issue? Any help would be appreciated.
Rooting in itself won't do anything - till somebody can figure out what files need to be modified to make it work.
I did what they said to do in this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512674
It worked perfectly for me. I believe the instructions on what to do were on page 7.
Edit: I'll just post what he said to do here. I figure that will be easier.
I have the T-mobile $30 unlimited prepaid plan and I ran into the tethering block after getting my Nexus 5.
"I was able to work around the issue by modifying the following sqlite database (you'll need root):
/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
You need to add a new entry to the global table called "tether_dun_required" with a value of 0.
It looks like you need to do this because some configuration data was added to Android for T-mobile that forwards tethered data to this APN: pcweb.tmobile.com
T-mobile is probably checking to see if your account has tethering enabled when you go through this APN.
After I made this change I also needed to change my APN settings so that it uses ipv4 instead of ipv6. It seems like tethering with ipv6 does not work 100% yet.
I hope this helps."

LTE not working?! Manual Programming codez (updated)11-7

I got my Nexus 5 yesterday and finally got it working. I live right next to a LTE tower and I can't seem to get LTE.
1. Checked PRL
2 Checked Sim
3 Checked Profile
4. Called sprint
5. Checked network settings.
When i put the phone in airplane mode, and back off. It jumps to LTE for 2 seconds then 3g
Anyone having these issues ???
*manual re-fresh*
*#*#72786#*#*
after that, phone will reboot and "re-fresh network"
Also, my phone wen't into global mode, which you will need to change that back to LTE mode.
- Still isn't fixed ...
will report back ..
Manual Programming Code
*#*#675#*#*
edit: MDN = phone number
MSID: split
UPDATE
doing *#*#4636#*#* and selecting LTE only does indeed make LTE work both visually and functionally, with a loss of voice of course, but as soon as you go back to LTE/CDMA auto it'll require a reboot to take effect and LTE is once again not working.
(from sprint forums) - confirmed
I'm having these issues with Sprint as well. Thanks for your updates. I'll let you know if I learn anything.

Here is how I fixed it for myself on Sprint.
Settings > More > Mobile Networks > Network Mode
Change Network Mode from Global to LTE.
It will still connect to Evdo, ehrpd and Lte and switches between them as needed.
Luckily I haven't got hit with 1x since trying this out. My area has maybe one or two spots where I'd get 1x instead of ehrpd.
Settings hold after a reboot. I was driving to work today with my phone playing my music and it seemlessly switched between 3g and lte on it's own.

I guess so because I was having that same initial problem you were where LTE would connect for a few seconds then when I tried to do anything with data it stalled out and went to 3g.

Mine does that too.
BUT, nothing in the settings has been able to fix this.
How long since you activated? Mine would not connect to lte at all until last night... about 30 hours after activation.
Now it connects fine. I tried everything including flashing the modems posted in dev, swapping sims, trying every different network config and nothing worked except lte only mode which then kills 3g and voice.

I too am having the exact same problem as the OP. I can change the setting from Global to LTE and the phone will connect to LTE for a few seconds before switching back to 3g.
I am coming from the Note 3 on Sprint that got great LTE here at home, about 16mb down and 4mb up but I am hoping this gets resolved quick.
I'm on T-Mobile and it favors sticking on HSPA+ instead of LTE. If LTE gets down to one bar, the phone decides it's time to switch back. Compare this behavior to my Nexus 4 and it would stick on LTE come hell or high water. I would stay on LTE while in the office and this phone refuses to even get on LTE in the office. I don't get it.
Some have suggested this is a "power saving" feature, but I call BS on this because my Nexus 4 wasn't even intended to have its LTE radio used and LTE really didn't impact my battery. It felt like it lasted the same as it did before I enabled LTE on it.
Possible Sprint Fix
Customer: Is the SIM device specific? I reused the one from my Note 3. I have seen other information that the SIM's for the Nexus 5 are device specific.
Mitchell C.: Yes, you can get a SIM for the Nexus from a nearest Sprint store. I can fix an appointment for you.
Customer: so they are device specific?
Mitchell C.: Yes, they are.
Mitchell C.: We've come across a lot of these issues today.
Customer: SO just to be clear, I need to ask for a SIM for the Nexus 5?
Mitchell C.: Absolutely.
Customer: ok
Customer: that should correct my connectivity problem?
Mitchell C.: Yes, every service will work fine after you get it.

I hope they fix this soon! Maybe they gave me the wrong SIM? Idk
Doubtful Mitchell knows what he is talking about. People have used HTC One SIMS and GS4 sims and have LTE. But, today is the big day the Sprint phones go on sale. Will be interesting to see if any of those people have the issue.

Still stuck on 3G after activating around 72 hours ago.
To follow up on the Nexus 5's "special" SIM card. I'm also skeptical about this. I'm using a SIM from a GS4 (part #: SIMGLW206R) which is the same SIM mentioned in this post about activating the Nexus 5 on Sprint: http://qbking77.com/google-nexus-5/activate-nexus-5-sprint/.
However, I called a nearby Sprint store to ask if they had any SIM cards available. They said yes but when I mentioned the Nexus 5 the representative seemed to think there was some additional procedure for coupling the phone and the SIM. I don't know any more about this. Could be misinformation of course.

[Q] Wi-Fi Calling

Are there any work arounds for T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling? I have crappy signal at home and need the Wi-Fi Calling cell spot thusfar. Might change to the repeater though. I am getting rid of my GS5, so the Nexus 5 is an alternative to the S5 for me. Anything is appreciated.

If you need live handoff (mid-call), then your only real option is going w/ Republic Wireless (at least I know of no better option). If you just need your true number to follow you then the WiFi Calling is your only option but it is NOT an option on the Nexus 5 right now.
However, once the Nexus 6 WiFi Calling option is hacked a bit, there is hope that we might see it on our Nexus 5s at some point in the future. No promises, but hope! But alas, until that happens, it's simply not an option right now.
