I just update to the PROBAM rom (v 1.2.4) for Note 2 GT-N7100. I had made a complete backup via titanium backup but somehow its not restoring.
Is it possible to restore from the NANDROID backup? I had done a ROM backup (via CWM recovery) before flashing the PROBAM.

If I remember correctly using the Pro version of Titanium backup will allow you to pull individual parts of CWM backups if you have it. Don't quote me on that though.
Also if you had contacts sync on shouldn't you be able to retrieve them through the same google account?

The issue is with the ROM I guess. I am restoring apps + DATA using TB (I guess restoring data is a bad idea) and this is making the contacts app itself to FC. The ROM is one of the best I have seen.
Anyways I got a workaround for it. Restored it back to previous ROM, backed up the vall logs, messages and contacts both using the contacts app and the super backup up. This should work now hopefully.
One question: This ROM is AOSP. I will lose the s-pen. I hardly use the hover or smart stay or whatever. However the one thing i want to keep is the ability to scribble on screenshots. Is there any workaround at all for this? I know few apps like screenshot ultimate pro etc. lets you do this, but i have seen mixed reviews about it

Unfortunately I have no idea... I do know that GMD Pen control (I believe it's called that) should be able to add back in gestures with it such as < going back and ^ triggering menu and allows you to make custom ones and more. I bought the pro version because I like it that much! I would try the free version first before buying it though as I don't know whether it will add the gesture capability back in or not.

Downloaded screenshot ultimate pro. I find it much better. It detects when a screenshot is taken and then asks you if you want to edit (including drawing) it or share etc. The only negative is that the app saves the screenshot as well. So basically you have double pictures and you also get the screenshot notification twice.
Thanks for your help

Ive tired MyBackup Pro and the apps it installs dont seem to get new updates.
Many apps (like handcent) dont keep any of there in app settings.
Ive heard Google backup works but not with root.
Is Titanium backup any good ?
Im looking for a program that will restore all my alarms/settings INCLUDING my individual app settings , AND registers everything on the market so i can continue to get updates.
Suggestions ?
Titanium pro (with donation) does everything you mentioned, plus! i cant find a better app for backup and restore. its about $4
Does the non-donation version not do all that then?
For some reason, I can not see the pro version in the market. I found the free one though. Anybody else having this problem?
Pro version is the same one.
When buying you get a txt file that you put in the root of your sd card and then you have pro version.
The only problem is:
I don't use paypal. No chance to get it on another way paid?
Titanium Backup rocks. It backs up apps & data, and restores the Market entries when it restores apps, so Market will show the updates. You can even back up system settings like the launcher (home screen) configuration. With the donate version it does even more cool stuff - highly recommended. It's one of the best apps out there for rooted phones.
So I can get those good features with the standard ?....but the PRO just makes it asier right ? ((seems like it says one touch install))

Mostly. If you ever want to do a batch restore (wiped phone?), the pro is well worth it. With pro you also get the ability to keep multiple backups so you can easily restore old versions/data, and it's faster.

Thanks for the tip. Will be trying it.
Titanium Backup
BTW, You dont need paypal to get it.
Click the donate thing on Titanium Backup Program.
Paypal will act as a middleman for your CREDIT CARD.
Safe and easy.
Did it yesterday, and within 10 minutes i had my "Pro" email.
As for the usefulness? If you backup 100 apps having to click install every time is ANNNOYING. Well worth 4 bucks to avoid that pain! Plus its faster backing up too, so really a small price to pay for your time.
Also, the program is pretty awesome, so well worth supporting the developer.
Yeah, I'd try it and its great!
Paypal with guest and VISA Card and 10 Minutes later I had my key-mail!
It works great! Everything fine!!!
My market/downloads section doesnt show up all apps (Titanium Free).
No other way to fix this but to upgrade to paid?

I am new to android so please excuse me if this is common knowledge. I was wondering about backup apps. I heard about titanium and nandroid. I was wondering which one is the best or if there are any others out that might be worth a look. What does Google or Sense 2.0 automatically back up?
Thanks!

Nandroid typically backs up your entire system as it is. Meaning settings, apps, themes, kernel, etc... whereas Titanium Backup will backup data. It's always good to have a working nandroid backup, in case you find yourself flashing a bad rom/kernel or otherwise getting into a bad state, you can always roll back to your nandroid backup.
Titanium Backup is really handy for backing up your apps and their data (saved games, etc...). I've heard MyBackup is good too, but haven't tried it yet.
I'm not sure what all Google backs up, but from what I've seen (and this is just a quick 'off the top of my head' list) it has settings (wifi information, wallpaper, homescreen setup), contacts in your google account and apps from the marketplace. I'm sure it backs up more, that's just all I can think of at the moment.
As for Sense... I'm not sure. This is my first official Sense device, but I noticed some old SMS messages come up out of nowhere. I'm sure doing some googling will give you the info you want though.
Thanks man. Very helpful.

When my apps from my captivate magically appeared on my Inspire after signing in to google I was impressed, and quite glad I always turn on wifi when setting up a phone.
i've always preferred appmanager over titanium backup.
recently though, with an updated version of appinstaller (by gregory house), they implimented a backup option which i've stuck with. appinstaller is the most lightweight, reliable app installing/uninstalling/backup program i've come across.
Why doesnt this exist? There have been many rom and kernel combinations that i have loved on my phone. I would love to be able to go back and use one on the fly by simply restoring. I know there are issues if you go from GB to Froyo and things like that, but anyone with a little sense already knows that. Nandroid is the closest option right now, but it doesnt restore my home layout or texts and calls. Surely this is possible. Id love to export a copy of my complete rom to my desktop as a flashable .zip for backup. Plus i like to back it up a few times a week to keep messages backed up.
If anyone wants to give this a shot Id gladly beta test it, and pay you some money for the app.
If this already exists then flame all you want, just be sure to post a link
Doing an advanced nandroid restore of data gets my phone back the way I set it up. Homescreens, texts, calls logs, its all there... Even after updating to GB from froyo.
Sometime there are permissions issues, but thats an easy fix.

really? I just updated to ICS and id love to restore some of that or at least try. I know you can select different parts to restore under advanced. What individual pice do i need to restore to get back my messaged and things without compromising my system? I always just used the standard recovery with nandroid and then used MIUI to restore the other stuff. Guess i should have looked into it more
Just go to advanced restore, and restore DATA.

I'm a HUGE fan of MIUI.
No 4g. we all know that.
Miui.us is currently testing a build w/ wimax working and I'm sitting on my hands waiting for that..
In the meantime, I sometimes have a need to tether. SOMETIMES - i want to do it on 4g.
I want to have a backup nandroid of a CM mod to do this, as well as some other things (like *#*#gpsclrx#*#* which fixes all my gps problems in an instant).
Going w/ gummy as it comes w/ a file explorer and terminal emulator by default.
Heres my question: when I'm in this ROM I want NOTHING syncing.
Sure, google is easy - don't add the account.
However, I want to avoid say getting text messages while I'm tethering. It MIGHT be important enough that I DON"T want to lose it after going back to current ROM.
Is this possible? Can I still somehow get mobile 4g but not receive SMS? (I'm alright w/ calls not going through as well).
Of course, this all becomes mute when the wimax version is released or some amazingly awesome feature comes out on a regular AOSP or CM based ROM (or sense I guess but wtf runs sense on a nexus? lol)

use titanium to backup any sms that come in or use this app to back them up and restore once you go back: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&hl=en
My experience has been that SMS restore apps wipe the existing messages and sometimes restore in wrong order. Would render restoring the few texts more damaging than not.
Do you know is this does?
Also I've never used titanium for text.what do you backup? Messaging app data? Go SMS data?

SMS backup that I linked is awesome, it doesnt overwrite (ie: delete existing) and it detects dupes as well. the one caveat is that it does not restore MMS, but it does back them up, so at least they are in email.
you also want to check all the backup and restore settings before you do anything. one thing you can do is take a nandroid backup, backup via SMS backup, wipe data, and restore through SMS backup to see what you get. you can always restore your nandroid if it doesnt work.
in TB, yeah if you go to the backup tab/button, i think its listed as [SMS/MMS] prefs or something like that.
I've never used Titanium Backup before but I keep hearing that it's quite the amazing app. I was wondering what the best (safest) practice would be to use this if I'm going to be trying out new roms frequently.
Should I back up user apps or system or both? Or should I be even more selective? I'm just trying to be cautious because I don't want to back something up from one rom that would conflict with something from a different rom.

TB is an amazing app it makes flashing from rom to rom much easier bcuz you dont have to find and download all your apps over again...I use it after I flash each rom to restore my apps...also I seen where people run into conflict when restoring data so wat I do is just restore apps only each time after a fresh install of a rom....but diff get this app youll love it and it will save you countless time with your apps...
You only want to back up user apps, ad system apps can be modded or tweaked on custom roms. Also I have never had an issue restoring data to user apps.

Some apps are a little weird when you restore data after a wipe. For example, FriendCaster Pro's contact sync breaks and push notifications are a little wonky if I restore data.
But yeah, issues with other apps are few and far between in my experience.
Edit: Oh and I have mine backing up to Google Drive (or Dropbox if you prefer) after every scheduled action as long as I'm on wifi and plugged in. This is just in case I do an sdcard wipe for some reason and forget to back it up manually.
Thanks for all your answers! This should make flashing roms a lot more streamlined.
