[Q] Rom advise please - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi Guys,
I have just brought a TF700, and I have set up 3 user profiles, but it is very unstable even after i have disabled all of the unused apps.
From what I have been reading it would appear my best option is to put a custom rom on it.
Now i have achieved this kind of thing in the past as I put Android on a HTC HD2 many moons ago.
I currently have a HTC One and i love the OS on that which is 4.3, so i was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a 4.3 Rom that is fairly close to what i have on the HTC One for my TF700.
Thanks in advance

You didn't say which rom you put on your HTC
CM 10.2 emulates JB 4.3, I believe Paranoid and OMNI ROM also have 4.3 versions, but most of the devs seem to have moved on to KitKat (CM11), but it still seems to be somewhat buggy and slow at this point.
You find the threads in the development section

Thanks for coming back.
I haven't changed anything on my HTC One at moment because I am more than happy with how it is performing.
I will take a look, but once again thanks.

I have been looking at various threads, but I am still a bit undecided on which way to go.
Anyone else that has wanted to update to 4.3 have any tips or advise for me?
I wouldnt mind eventually going down the 4.4 route, but as I have only just got the tablet - I would firstly like to flash it to something more stable than it currently is.
Many Thanks

What really could help to speed up your TF700t is a factory restart.
For me it was really helping a lot .... even if i am right now "only" on rooted stock FW.
Try this as well.

I have only just brought it, and it was back to factory default, but I did it agin before puting all my apps that I wanted on.
And it was very slow and unstable then, but I then disabled all of the preinstalled apps that I didnt want to use, and it is better, but because I have heard that 4.3 does use less memory I still think it would be worth a try.

I am not sure why you think 4.3 is so much better than 4.2.1. AFAIK that was not a major update or improvement....
If you are looking for a fast and totally stable rom for this tablet, go for CROMi-X! It's based on the Asus firmware 4.2.1 for this tablet, so everything is optimized for THIS device. CM roms are generic. They run a on a multitude of devices - that's why you have more bugs and conflicts

Not that I'm aware of. It was a pretty minor upgrade. Kit Kat 4.4 offers far more interesting features.
Plenty of google results out there:

Thats fair enough.
I have to admit I like the look of the 4.3 more, but decided to upgrade to the CROMi-X one, and then wait for the 4.4 - which I did last night and I am very impressed - it is loads smoother.
So Thanks for your advise.

Nahhh - only tried it as ROM2SD. And it's still sleeping on some of my sd cards.
I was not impressed. CM didn't add anything but eye candy (I didn't care for) and I think by now CROMi-X in conjunction with Xposed modules (if you care for those and the performance hit they come with) gives you way more options to customize this tablet than CM.... not even mentioning your tweaks!

I ordered the TF701 yesterday and once I got it set up as my daily driver, I'm prepared to test the hell out of this tablet. Should be fun to have a tablet just to play with (and nvflash blobs safely squared away)

The tf701 looks very good with spec but the I/O does not seem to improve.... Maybe, I need to order one too...haha..
Nvflash blob? I like Jtag better and hope that I don't go that route...

i have tf700 with CleanRom 3.4, but now i want to taste something new... 4.4 it goes slowly and i'm triying to guess which one i want to flash cromi-xenogenesis / comi-x / clenrom 3.5 until i wait for a fluid 4.4...

CROMi-X is just the nickname for CROMi-Xenogenesis (who wants to write that all the time???). CROMi 3.5 would be just a minor step up from what yo got now...
Latest and greatest version of CROMi-X is 5.2.4. But you are on an outdated bootloader and no doubt an old recovery.
So head over to the CROMi-X thread, grab the bootloader/TWRP package sbdags provided in the OP and download the rom (dl both to your microSD)
Boot into TWRP and do a Factory Wipe - that will wipe your apps, but not your data (but you got everything backed up anyway, right????)
Flash the bootloader/TWRP package and reboot
Boot back into TWRP and flash the ROM

46 views and no one knows anything about this or has anything to say about it?
Need root
I would try it out only if i had my root, I'm not into unlocking my device. (I don't have any back up of any sort)
46 views and no reply? Maybe no one has tried it. Why don't you try it first and let us know if it boot loops your infinity?
Personally why would you need this? Install cleanrom ule and you'll have a very quick pimped rom.

You don't have to install it to have an opinion on it. Stop and think for a second. So you would just install Cleanrom and just leave it at that? The point is this gives you the option to pick and choose what you want to add to the rom and not be at the mercy of a rom creator. I'll say I've been doing this a long time now and I've learned that most roms are just eat up with bugs and more problems than its worth. I mostly prefer a stock rom with just a few performance tweaks here and there as opposed to one that's going to FC or reboot spontaneously. However if no one has anything intelligent to contribute then by all means moderator, lock this topic.
Aww, play nice people.
I just installed it and am checking it out with the stock Jelly Bean. I admit, I was overwhelmed by options but we'll see how it goes. Hopefully I didn't select anything detrimental. Everything seems okay, and I like the option to reboot faster!

I have tried with xbean on a captivate , semaphore kernel , works like a champ , cleans up all the untidy bits , fast and smooth
Looks very interesting.
I'd be willing to try if it's as easy as the vid makes it look.
Pretty smart of devs to warn to backup first.
I would forget that as usual...

Well I just flashed this on unofficial cm10. I selected a bunch of tweaks, many of which I have no idea what they are. The rom booted fine and so far no fc's. So far I am not noticing a huge difference anywhere but to be fair I haven't used it much.

I have been using "Pimp My Rom" consistently on my Marvelc (Htc Wildfire S CDMA) running Blackbean-6-V2 from Icu64 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2099218 (I put Dext+ in the init.d folder before flashing the rom. Then I flash CM10 Kernel 2.1v by eoghant27, Alquez, Modpunk and OliverG96 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010083. Finally, I flash Oliver's light based Gaps after first boot. Anyway, all the tweaks I have used from "Pimp My Rom" work awesome and have not given me any problems at all. I just about used everything on there except vm sizes. Hope that info helped out. Yeah you right!

[Q] TWRP Compatibility?

Just saw a new twrp 2.5.0.0 posted in the development section. Does anyone know if using it will cause any issues since I have ths sbdags patched bootloader with 2.4.4.0. I certainly don't want to brick. I'm currently running CROMi-X v4.2 (and loving it). Thanks in advance!

Thanks for getting back to me on this. I went ahead and used GooMgr to install the new TWRP. Booted into and made new system backup. Everything works like a charm. Now I'm really looking forward to CROMi-X with 10.6.1.14 full rom.

WOOT Just got my tf700 dock and I'm all set for the new rom when it comes out!! Life's good. This device is shaping up to be one of the best devices I've ever owned... aside from my killer gaming desktop of course. As far as mobile devices though, this one is the cat's meow!

looking for some info, new to the tf300t

I just ordered a refurbed tf300t w/ the keyboard dock. I'm looking to root it and install cm pretty quickly. From what i can gather there are some problems with the 4.2 bootloader and cm. Can some one point me in the direction of a guide to unlock the bootloader and which twrp to install. I figure since its refurbed it's probably on 4.2.
everything on the forums i found is for 4.1 or less. also is there a reason this tablet isnt a stable cm10.1 device?

On this tablet don't get in a hurry for anything. When you verify (absolutely) the bootloader version (ICS(4.0), JB(4.1), JB(4.2 10.6.1.8), or JB(4.2 10.6.1.15.3) then you can begin to read and plan.
Here is a link to many things you will need including the two apps for unlocking the bootloader.
While there don't forget to thank philos64. You will use this thread many times while owning this tablet.
Unlocking is simple. Run the proper app for your bootloader version as explained in the above thread. Two apps for the four bootloaders.
Which twrp etc depends on the bootloader in use.
Good Luck!
Go slow, do your homework, and play safe or this tablet will leave you in the dust (there are many, many bricks to prove it).
I don't know about the current cm10 and stability when it went multi user (10.1) I started looking for other roms.
Just my desire not problems with 10.1.
I'm also new to this device and after unlocking just followed this today:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42005728&postcount=91
Changed a couple of things, such as TWRP version and flashed CM10.1 instead of the one in the example. All I changed from the guide linked were the files used, based on thoroughly reading other topics first.

I'm partial to CROMi.
I'm afraid rom choice is mostly personal. For my use all versions of CROMi have been solid and you have many options during install to customize as you like.

My favorite stock rom is 10.4.2.20.
If you intend unlocking and flashing a custom rom you might want to update to the proper bootloader for that rom while you still have stock recovery (not twrp).

Bootloaders have been an issue on this tablet since 4.1 (JB) arrived.
I swap at will between the JB bootloaders using stock recovery - next bootloader up or down.
Yes, be careful! Match bootloader, rom and twrp.
Here are the bootloaders, stock roms, and twrp- now you have to match your custom rom.
4.1 bootloader - 10.4.2.9, 10.4.2.13, 10.4.2.17, 10.4.2.18, 10.4.2.20 - twrp openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300t-JB.blob
4.2 bootloader - 10.6.1.8 - twrp openrecovery-twrp-2.4.4.0-tf300t-4.2.blob
4.2.1 bootloader - 10.6.1.15.3 - twrp openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300t-4.2.blob
I'm confused just reading this mess.

First I must say I rate roms by how compatible they are and if everything I use works without issues including lag.
The link I provided for CROMi shows a score of 6214 in the first post (op).
I notice there is at least one other CROMi listed which I have not tried. The CROMi by sbdags also provides other kernel options for more speed and other enhancements.
I'm sure someone else will respond with the fastest kernel for this rom as it is very popular.

yeah im noticing a bit of lag on 4.2.1 i dont know if its the rom or hardware, I must say I absoloutly love this tablet. Coming from an og nook color and a kindle fire this is leagues better.
The tablet screen shots on the page are from the tf700, if you look at the build number, so that quadrent score is probably not a good representation of our tablet.
Other than that the stock rom is fine but, I'm always looking for better performance.
For better performance I would reccomend cromi-x it is WAY smoother then stock, but based on stock.

One thing that has turned me off is that it's not running 4.3 and therefore doesn't have the quick settings pulldown like in CM 10.2.
Also I have purchased a theme I really like for CM 10.2 and I don't know if Cromi has themes. Basically I know a bit about CM because I use it on my phone but I know next to nothing about Cromi.

CROMi-X now comes with xposed framework and gravity box - you can customize the quick settings pulldown any which way (if you choose the 4.2 launcher style - you can still choose the 4.1 launcher if you prefer). CROMi-X now also comes with ROM2SD = dual boot capability (run the 2nd rom on your microSD - which is actually faster than the slow internal memory). Doesn't work with CM as the 2nd rom yet - but the devs are getting closer
But I haven't run a CM ROM in a year - so what do I know?
It comes down to personal preference.....

Why doesn't it work for you? CM was my first test ROM for ROM2SD...

Not like Bernd to fall behind
Yes can confirm CM can be run fine as rom2sd.

True! But it is damn hard to keep up with you guys! LOL
I'm in freaking Dallas for the week and I didn't get the card I ordered in time. I never got the Scandisk Extreme to work with ROM2SD
I just hope it was the card and not my inability to use Gparted correctly! That would be embarrassing!
But I tell you, I am sitting on the edge of my seat here and experiencing serious withdrawal because I can't wait to play with ROM2SD! :gnashingmyteeth:
Next weekend is going to be a flashing one! LOL

Retiring this device to my daughter

I am moving on from this device but it is not going to be neglected. I am passing this TF700 to my daughter and getting a new smaller tablet for myself.
I got this back when sbdags was still cooking roms based on the original OEM. Long time.
Before I turn it over to her I am going to clean it out and install the most stable ROM I can. Probably back to Cromi-x. Any feedback on what you guys remember as the most stable?

I'm using Crombi-kk as my daily driver. I use my TF700 w/keyboard for work and need a stable platform. This works for me.

He just said he was donating to his daughter.
Is it that hard to port katkiss to the 700? Just apply a 700 kernel and you are done. What else are you needing?
The 300 and 700 are basically the same device with very minor changes to hardware.
IMHO, Cromi-X is the right choice. It's the most stable of the roms that are rooted in the tf700 stock base and frankly I think it's the best daily rom for the device period. I think your daughter will love it.
Cheers

He released 5.1 today and it won't work on the TF700 with the correct kernel. Any ideas?

Unpack the kernels.
Mix the old zimage and new ramdisk.
Repack.
@sbdags
How? Would you mind uploading a version on the katkiss-lollipop q and a threads?
