Nexus 5 ART - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have just got my nexus 5 a day ago running stock rom stock kernel, rooted with clockworkmod in play and I'm trying to turn on ART, the system asks to reboot and when it does there is no upgrading process when the device boots, I in to dev options and it indicates it's still using David, I've tried this over and over again and nothing, anyone have a clue what I'm doing wrong?

Hi,
Do you use Xposed framework and modules?
If yes it's normal because they are not compatible with ART, and makes revert to Dalvik runtime automatically.
If no, sorry I don't know...

I do use exposed, that's a real shame, what if I was to use a custom Rom like omni would it still revert back?

So yes it's due to Xposed and you can't do anything until the devs will make it compatible...
No you can use ART with another rom but not with Xposed, whatever the rom with Xposed you can't use ART...

Beans ROM causing major issues!!!!!

I never had a problem with anything until I flashed beans build 6. I did a clean install but ever since my phone has been freezing nonstop. I have to battery pull every time and it is getting frustrating. I went back to build 5 on a clean install and the same thing occurs. I even tried downloading my apps one by one from the play store instead of restoring from titanium and I still get this issue. Someone please give me some enlightenment I'm desperate!

1) What does a full wipe consist of in your case?
2) Freezing as in you can't do anything at all or freezing as in laggy? How long did you have Beans Build 5 and/or 6 installed?
3) did you have the AOSP Lockscreen installed via Aroma (when you first flash the rom)? if so, did you deselect ALL the TW options under Settings/Lockscreen?
4) Do you check the md5 before flashing build 5 or build 6? If not, what do they say when you check now?
AOSP lock screen was the culprit that required me to pull my battery. I have no problems with the tw lock screen on B6. Battery life, GPS, performance is great on B6.

When you enable AOSP lock screen you must disable all other functions in the same settings menu. Everything must be off. I'm running it flawlessly after doing so.

Full wipe for me would be factory reset/system/cache/dalvic
It would freeze and I wouldn't be able to do anything so I had to battery pull
I had some settings turned on for touch wiz lock screen and I've turned them off since and I think that may have been the culprit. They were there as default however.
Also how would I go about checking md5

When in doubt, restore to stock and do the rooting process again. Try backing up your SD, wiping it, and putting it back on too. Basically do some spring cleaning, you're phone's getting dusty! (I'm joking because these will probably work)

That's exactly what I did. Then switched to TW 4x5 launcher and also changed to CWM recovery (before re flashing ROM) and all my issues went away. Don't know if Nova was the issue or not but it works great now. Fast and smooth. Even running IMO lean kernel with no problems. Here's the quadrant score.

Didn't realize Quadrant was so frowned upon around here. Sorry for posting. Have used other benchmarks and with B6 have achieved scores very close to the supposed reigning benchmark king that I will not mention lol. Either way, I'm very happy with the speed and smoothness of B6 now. Once B7 corrects the email issue and I'm assuming will be based on the official OTA release tomorrow I think I've found my daily driver. Great ROM.

Ran b5 today no issues....quite weird not sure I just hope I don't have to go back to stock. I got great battery life today around 20 hours with 3 on screen and 20 percent left. No freezing either I'm quite confused but not holding my breath

I was using cwm and switched to twrp actually and I think that may have helped... There is no telling though. I would go back to cm10 but I have constant call issues with it even with late builds. Probably my phone being temperamental though. I am one that believes in doing clean installs though so I know my problems aren't from a so called dirty flash. I wish I could import my desktop layout into trebuchet because I always feel that it was the fasted launcher for me.

I don't know. Weird. I did flash another ROM between 5 and 6. That may have started my issues. Hoping Eclipse updates And gets 4.2 along with Google now. If so, I'll go back to that. Only non TW ROM I liked. Very fast and no issues with Eclipse 2.1 build 4.

I've flashed almost every ROM available and I always find that builds that are built off cm10 with more customizable options always give me issues for some reason. I was s strong believer in cm10 until I tried out beans with the new aosp options.

All battery monitoring doesn't support atm on Kitkat. You may check BBS XDA Thread to try a beta release.
Otherwise you may wait for Xposed Framework and apply this module: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2519744
Same thing for me, Im really sad about this...
There's an official thread on xda..and the beta is posted. Works great for me on kit kat

customizing a rooted s3 after dreaded OTA 4.3

so, yes I'm an idiot. I was running cm 10.2 and it was being buggy do I flashed stock and started over, accidentally downloading 4.3 in the process. dammit.
so, I really liked the aosp look of cm, especially the notification bar, the lockscreen, etc.
can I customize the functionality of my s3 without flashing a custom rom or am I screwed?
also, Wtf can I do now that I'm rooted on 4.3? anything?

You probably want this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2383484
Read carefully as you first have to install the xposed framework.
and the xposed installer won't brick my device? what allows this to be installed safely while flashing a rom does not?

Xposed is an app (well it's the framework). It does not require flashing anything in a custom recovery or unlocking of a bootloader, it simply lets you modify the appearance or behavior of the system or other apps. Conversely, flashing a rom on our S3 requires you to have an unlocked bootloader.
this answers my question perfectly. thank you very much.

No problem! I haven't used Wanam Xposed but I know it comes highly recommended for TW 4.3. I use Xposed (slightly different somehow) and there's a two step process of first installing Xposed and rebooting then installing a module that interests you then rebooting once again. It's a pretty fun utility and may be rather addicting!

[Q] ART problem

I am running stock ROM with Franco kernel 32.
Any help is much appreciated, cheers

Are you running Xposed? If so, that's the reason. Xposed is incompatible with ART.
Hi,
Xposed Framework is not compatible with ART runtime it's right, but it should not give bootloops. If you set ART it revert back automatically to Dalvik runtime to avoid bootloops.
From the Xposed Framework thread:
After installing Xposed, the runtime gets reset from ART to Dalvik...
You can be glad that I implemented this, otherwise you would be in a bootloop know.

Pretty sure you would need an adb logcat to clear up this mystery.
Is there an app I can get or must it be from a cpu

you can logcat with an app, when the phone is booted up already. but to see a logcat while its booting, you need to do it via adb while connected to your computer.
Saw in a random N4 thread about ART that if you have apps that aren't ART compliant, then you will have that on every reboot. Haven't tested myself as I don't care about ART since Xposed is more important to me, but would make sense.
