Tool for network and mobile monitoring - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
my nexus 5 frequently looses it's connection to wlan and mobile network.
I would like to monitor that behavior.
Does anyone knows an app which can be used for wlan and mobile monitoring?
I already tried several kernels and modems
Thanks for advice!

Not sure how detailed of a solution you're looking for, but the Gravity Box module has a nice data traffic monitor that shows data speed in the status bar.

[Q] Cannot connect or tether iPad Air to Nexus 5

Hi guys,
Has anyone ever had trouble tethering their iPad Air to the Nexus 5? I use my iPad Air for work, and would like to tether it to my Nexus 5. My current carrier plan has no tethering restrictions.
I managed to pair the two devices together, but could not actually establish a bluetooth connection (no error shown on either device when a connection attempt is initiated).
I can get these to pair up via bluetooth with other devices, just not with each other
When I ran a 3rd part bluetooth debugging app (bluetooth viewer lite) and sent a random message:
- the iPad recognised a bluetooth connection was established
- on the nexus 5, The app indicated that a message was sent
- on the nexus 5, the bluetooth icon was still greyed, indicating no connection had been established.
I tried the usual stuff, un-pair, reset, re-pair, turning off wi-fi, etc. With no luck
Any ideas, guys? Thanks for your help!

Uhhhh....why are you using Bluetooth? Just turn on the WiFi hotspot on the Nexus 5 and connect your iPad to that WiFi network.

I concur. My wife and I both fire up the wifi tether on our n5's for a couple ipad and ipod touches. Works great every time.
DOH! Just figured it out ... I didn't enable 'Bluetooth Tethering' on my Nexus 5, it may be off by default.
For anyone who's wondering how to switch it on:
Settings -> More ... -> Tethering & Portable Hotspot -> Bluetooth Tethering

My understanding is that I can tether via Bluetooth Low Energy, so there will be less battery drain on both devices. Do you think that sharing over Wi-Fi could be more battery efficient or negligible in comparison?
Cheers, guys!

Both are around the same. WiFi is faster though. And just to let you k ow, Bluetooth LE is only for things like fitness trackers. Not tethering.

[Q] Wi-fi connection issues

Hello everyone,
I'm having some issues with my wi-fi connection. Almost evry time i try to load a webpage or an app's content th waitin time is very long and often the webpage doesn't even load in general. This is only happening when I'm using wi-fi, when using mobile networks everithing is OK.
I don't think the problem is bad wi-fi connection at home, because other devices connected to it works without problems.
Do anyone know what sort of problem it is and how to solve it?
Thank you

A defective wi-fi is improbable. Have you tried to use another wi-fi connection?

WIFI

Hello all,
This is my first smartwatch, I am having some troubles connecting to certain WIFI. Is there limitations on what kind of WIFI network this watch can see and connect to? My home WIFI seems to work just fine, but when I am at work, it doesnt see all the networks, and the one it does see......it wont let me connect to? Is there any way to fix this? I am guessing it might be some sort of security settings on the WIFI at my workplace?

It may not have the functionality to connect to 5.0ghz, only 2.4ghz Wi-Fi. I can't test that because my home router is from my broadband provider. I tried a google search and the only thing that came up was that it can connect to wireless b/g/n. Nothing stating if it can or cannot connect to 5.0ghz.
it can only connect to 2.4 ghz networks.
5 ghz usually need a/ac standard to connect to.

Connection over hotspot behave as limited

Hello to all,
please, does anybony know any solution fo r that problem?:
Im using old android phone (rooted Nexus 6) as hotspot for other devices.. with unlimited data SIM card. But when I connext other phones, these somehow know, they are connected to hotspot and they dont backup photos to google photos.
Is there any app or some way(can be for rooted phones), how to setup hotspot to behave as standard wifi router, that other connected devices will use that wifi as unlimited/standard wifi connection?
Solution is NOT to allow backing up over cellular data at connected devices, because im connecting a lot of devices many times a day and still changing that is not possible...
Thanks for any advice!

Sounds like your Nexus 6 is using slow network speeds. Is the Nexus 6 on LTE? What does the signal bar show, like LTE, 3G, etc?
Speeds are OK. On Nexus is LTE with nearly full signal. But for example connected Huawei P30 has at a wifi icon much smaller hotpsot icon, that it knows, its connected to hotspot and count with it like with limited connection...
