Connection over hotspot behave as limited - General Questions and Answers

Hello to all,
please, does anybony know any solution fo r that problem?:
Im using old android phone (rooted Nexus 6) as hotspot for other devices.. with unlimited data SIM card. But when I connext other phones, these somehow know, they are connected to hotspot and they dont backup photos to google photos.
Is there any app or some way(can be for rooted phones), how to setup hotspot to behave as standard wifi router, that other connected devices will use that wifi as unlimited/standard wifi connection?
Solution is NOT to allow backing up over cellular data at connected devices, because im connecting a lot of devices many times a day and still changing that is not possible...
Thanks for any advice!

Sounds like your Nexus 6 is using slow network speeds. Is the Nexus 6 on LTE? What does the signal bar show, like LTE, 3G, etc?

Speeds are OK. On Nexus is LTE with nearly full signal. But for example connected Huawei P30 has at a wifi icon much smaller hotpsot icon, that it knows, its connected to hotspot and count with it like with limited connection...

[Q] sharing mobile modem internet help

i connected my blackberry bold 9780 to my laptop and i use it as a modem. i then used virtual router to share the 3G connection to my motorola xoom wifi. i can go online using google chrome just fine but all the other other apps, whether default or downloaded, refuse to connect online. im wondering if it's an adapter setting that i need to adjust or something. p,lease help. i am very frustrated at not bein able to use internet depending apps. it breaks my heart.

I don't understand...you are basically using your Blackberry/laptop configuration to make a mobile hotspot, right? If the Xoom can access the wifi signal for one app it should be able to for any app. Maybe I'm missing something. Can you give more explanation?

I connected my blackberry bold which has 3g to my laptop which broadcasts the connection via wifi. The chrome browser and android market and other goodies apps connect but installed apps don't connect. Plus I recently bought a huawei e5 mobile 3g wireless router. I got my xoom connected to the network but right now only the browser goes online,. The other apps just do not. I don't know what other piece of detail I can give other than the fact that my Xoom wifi is not connecting to 3g networks broadcast via wifi. Any ideas?
This is really very strange... I switched my 3G-Xoom into flight mode and then activated WiFi (so it basically behaves like a WiFi-only Version) and connected it to my mobile (Samsung Galaxy S) and all apps are able to access the internet. Connecting ist to a UMTS-Router (Option GlobeSurf) also worked like a charm...
Did you try to connect your Xoom to a WiFi-Router at home (= Internet access via cable not UMTS)? Does this work or do you encounter the same probs?

[Q] Sharing my wifi connection with my phone

Ok, I've been looking around for a couple hours now but people aren't understanding my question/dilemma
I am currently using a goWIFI connection on my tablet, I'm only allowed to login with one device at a time. So I am trying to share my xoom's wifi, not data connection with my phone so they can both be using the same wifi connection
I do not want to share a data connection with my phone, I want to share the wifi connection with my phone. How can I do this? FoxFI only seems to share data connections.

And you have tried putting your tablet in airplane mode to shutoff you mobile data connection?
Are ypu on a custom ROM? I have never tried it but some seem to offer turning your tablet into a portable wifi connection, might be the backdoor to tether your phone that you need
I dont have a data plan right nnonow for my tablet, its only running on wifi as it is. I have already disabled mobile data in settings. I am running EOS 3 build 134.
I am just looking to share the current wifi connection instead of a data connection.

[Q] Can we use P920(H) as a modem for a 3G router?

Hello all. I've just purchased a 3G/WAN WI-FI router (TP-Link model TL-MR3420 - link to manufacturer's page). It has an USB port to connect a 3G/4G modem. I tried to connect my P920H (V28b stock ICS - XBSA large partitions) but the router doesn't recognise it. I tried to use an older 3G phone (Sony Ericsson W980) and it works like a charm. In both cases I configured the phones to USB tether with their own configuration options.
Anyone managed to make this work? I believe the router lacks a driver, but I've found no driver for any phone on the manufacturer's page, although I works with the Walkman phone.
Edit: I forgot to mention that all tethering features on my phone works fine. I can turn on my hotspot and I can plug it to a PC's USB port and act like a modem. I just can't do it with my router.
Why I want to do this: Most of you who have nice broadband access may be wondering why I want to use my phone to provide Internet access to my router. Here's why: In the region I live, broadband access is a joke. A miserable 1Mbps insufficcient to watch even the lamest youtube video. But it has no limitations, so it is good for TV upgrades and other connected devices to do their maintenance.
On the other hand, my phone provider has a wonderful coverage around my house, sustaining an average of 3Mbps, reaching 10Mbps late at night. So, when I want a quicker net, like to watch Internet movies or download large files, I used to turn off my router and turn on the phone's hotspot. But even setting its SSID and password identical to the ones on the router, it takes some tweaking on the devices for them to reconnect. It was a nuisance.
With this 3G router, all I would have to do is connect the phone to it and it would switch from WAN to 3G. All I need is a driver that would make it recognize the phone and use it as a modem.
I messed with wifi tethering a bit a while back. Couldn't get it to work. My other phone sees it as a wifi point but won't connect. Something to do with LG not liking tethering I heard. I saw this mod that fixes tethering for some devices but never tried it ( I don't really need tethering). I am curious if it fixes it:

Hello drastic00!
Thank you for your suggestion. I understand that the mod you suggested can have nice effects on slow or even broken tethering.
The problem is that I haven't made myself clear on the first post. I can see it now and I'll edit it right away. The tethering feature on my phone works fine, both WI-FI and USB tethering works. What I need is a USB tethering that makes my router "think" that my phone is actually a 3G USB modem. When I use this feature on a PC, I have to install the drivers. The bad news is that I can't install these drivers on the router.
Okay. I figured if wifi tether isn't working then usb isn't either. So what firmware do you have on which it is working?
There was a small discussion on a thread a month or so ago; it wasn't working for the 4 or so people who posted then...I think we were all on ICS or higher, but not positive. That's when I tried to see if I could get wifi tether to work. I didn't try any usb tethering.
So I guess I am not understanding the advantage of plugging direct to the router. Why not plug the phone to pc (signal in) and the router to pc (signal out)? Because it would be easier to switch from the signal you normally use? This is a new one on me... I have no idea if an ethernet switch would be of use...2 signals in for the router to broadcast and choose which wifi signal on the client end (not sure if your router could do that, just grasping at straws, since I haven't tried anything like this).
It's weird other phones work though, so I am still curious if Crossbreeder mod would do anything. It seems the other phones have a piece of software the O3D does not. Unless the router has drivers installed for those devices by default, which I doubt; you didn't install anything for those to work, they worked out-of-the-box, so to speak, right?
Exactly. Both WIFI and USB tether always worked out of the box for me, with several ROMs, either stock and modded ROMs. Eventualy some modded ROMs did break tether, but usually broke many other things as well Probably too undervolt and/or too overclock among other things I don´t understand.
I remember that discussion about not working tether, but didn´t get involved. It never happened to me. I believe it is more a hardware issue. If it happened to me, the first thing I would do is install the original stock Froyo to be sure if tether didn´t work with the most original firmware.
As to why I want to put my O3D as the Internet provider for my network: I have several devices connected: 3 PCs, 2 Androids, 1 TV and 1 Blu-ray player. The last two are not too easy to make connect to a different WIFI net, even if they have the same SSID and passwords. I used to turn off the router and then turning on the phone´s hotspot. The problem is that almost always several of these devices didn´t realise the switch and kept trying to connect to the unavailable router. The same thing happend when switching from the phone to the router.
Also, I don´t want to buy a 3G modem, because the speed advantage (and low fees) are "connected" to my voice plan. The SIM card is my primary phone number So, I need it to be able to make and receive calls. If I purchase a new SIM card, I would have to cope with two bills. Again, no more advantages.
Breaking news: I just noticed that the Sony Ericsson Walkman phone I am using as a modem only gets 1Mbps download, exactly the speed my provider guarantees. My P920H can get more than 10 Mbps on times, but usually between 3 and 5 Mbps. I believe that V28b stock ICS somehow unlocks some sort of ISP speed limit. Now, more than ever I want to use my phone as a modem on my router.

[Q] Is it possible to have a Local WiFi Hotspot

Is it possible to have a Local WiFi Hotspot? I have a Galaxy S5 with Verizon. Ever since I upgraded I have been struggling on a 6gb data plan. I own an iPad and an Apple TV and wanted to do wireless airplay for presentations. Of course Apple TV requires a WiFi connection to airplay so I was wondering if there was a way to make a local wifi hotspot on a device without using the internet? It would be like having a wireless router that isn't plugged into a modem. I have never seen this brought up before so I figured I might as well see if it is even possible. What do you guys think?Am I crazy for wanting a local hotspot or does this peak anyone interest to explore?

is is possible to have the hotspot running on the phone and data turned off, but i dont know what effect that would have on other transfers through the wifi.
only reason i know this is because i just started using ds battery saver app the other day, and i use the hotspot on my phone a lot. i have it set to turn off mobile data when the phone is off, well this poses a problem as the hotspot is still broadcasting but i have no internet connection. fortunately the developer had already thought of this (for streaming music etc, same issue) and put an adjustable bandwidth sensor on the app, so it wont cut off data when the screen turns off is there is a certain amount of transfer present.
i kinda went a little off your topic, but i thought it relevant to explain how i know it is possible for the nay sayers.

I just tried it out and I can get the hotspot to activate with data on and then go turn data off and it won't automatically turn off my hotspot. I will have to try it with the Apple TV in a few days and see how well it works.

Turn off Cell data to connect to certain devices (DJI Osmo/Osmo+, Waylens Dash Cam)

So this has been one of the annoyances I've had with android for awhile but never really put any research in to it to know if its normal, or more so - why this would be normal. If I want to connect to certain devices that run as a wifi hotspot, but don't provide internet access - android does not appear to use those connections. The workaround seems to be to disable cell data and then I can connect to the device. Currently on a Nexus 6p on 7.1.1. The wifi will connect, but i can't hit the device unless I wack cell data. I guess really the two questions that matter are 1) is this normal? and 2) is there a workaround? Tried it on the fiance's iphone and it works without issue.
