you can use a root file explorer(if you have root) to disable/turn off thermal throttle. the file is located in /sys/module/msm_thermal/parameters/enabled/ then change the Y to a N.
Also, kernels such as chaos or faux allow you to change the thresholds

I only want to known if any improvement of hardware manufacture was done between N4 and N5.

oh, yea, hardware wise there has been an improvement. the n5 doesnt throttle as much or as hard as the n4. and thats odd that franco didnt expose the files for thermal throttle, many other kernels do.

I read that Nexus 5 still throttles a lot compared with another SnapDragon 800 SoC (Galaxy Note 3):
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/11/when-benchmarks-arent-enough-cpu-performance-in-the-nexus-5/
Yeah it does. 65-70 degrees C for frequency-core throttle respectively I believe.
I've set mine to 80-85 though that is NOT a recommendation!

I am on stock kernel, tried it and then ran the antutu benchmark, at 27% the phone restarted and the N was changed to Y after booting the phone.....any idea why the phone restarted?

thats because of the code, not the device. samsung sets it up how they want it, just how google sets it up how they want it. but its not a bad thing. i run my device with throttle disabled, but i dont care about heat. if google made it not throttle, all we would be reading about is how hot the nexus 5 gets. and it gets pretty hot with throttle on!

you hit thermal shutdown. its really easy to do with antutu, even with throttle on. why did it reset it, did you save your edit or did you just change it and exit?

oh, i misunderstood the first time. it doesnt stick after a reboot. after a reboot you have to disable throttle again. there are kernel control apps that do it as well, i use the trinity kernel toolbox to disable thermal throttle usually(but have to disable it after every reboot).

Everything in /sys "belongs" to the kernel and is set by the hardcoded values in the kernel when the system is rebooted. This is why we need to use apps or scripts to change the /sys values after (or at) boot

I have only one issue with AOKP, any version, and that is I can't get it to stop overclocking my Verizon Galaxy S III to 1620 MHz. I've tried all settings when it comes to the Governor and IO scheduler and it stays at 1620. Is there anything I can do to keep that at the stock 1512 MHz? I know it isn't a big jump but I don't want the overclock at all to save my CPU in the long run. So if anyone has any helpful information on this it would be very helpful, thank you.

only messed with apks once, but I noticed not all the files in the apk I was messing with were compressed to the same level..
I had to add one separately with 0 compression to make the apk the similar size as the original. for some reason I was being anal about it at the time... just a thought

I always compare's the compression level with the original apk...
Almost all time the size of modified apk and original apk matches (maybe with a difference less than 1 mb)

That's up to you. Just bear in mind that as its experimental, not everything works so don't waste too much time trying to get something working that may simply be down to a problem with ART

ok, art depends on precompiling code emlements, which means, eg. if you edit the layout files, it can be possible that the precompiled data leads to the force closes - especially dynamically created views, can be a killing options :/

Where is this Precompiled data located in ?
I tried wiping data,cache,dalvik-cache Still the problem exist..
Does this issue somehow related with classes.dex ?

There's no reason to switch, since now you can get the same speed with this. I flashed the mods on my N5 and N7 and have noticed a considerable increase in speed on both devices.

dalvik and art are two independent runtimes, both implemented in android since 4.4.0. the dalvik machine uses .dex files, in a small kind of "precompiled". wiping the dalvik cache only deletes dalvik related files, like the .dex files.
for art, sorry i dont know where they are located or how they are made :/
maybe try to install the modified app in dalvik, and then switch to art, so the data of the app i new compiled.
can you post a logcat?
take a look here, it seems similar problem...
maybe invalid package error?

you can switch to dalvik, delete the apps data in /data/data ..., install the modded apk and switch to art again

Thanks for your response. Yes, I cleared the Speedtest app's data, uninstalled/re-installed, and cleared cache and Dalvik in recovery.
EDIT: The only thing I remember doing since it last worked is to test an app called Android Tuner. I ended up uninstalling it.
BTW, I also fixed permissions.

I just defrosted everything and tried to run the app, but, apparently, that's not the problem.
I don't think I changed the location of any files, if that is, in fact, what you mean. If you mean location, as in geographic, no, I don't think that I have changed anything either in that regard.
BTW, Did I create and post the logcat correctly? I had never done it before. Thanks
