Hi
My S3 would regularly show 3G, H, H+
My nexus 5 in the same locations only shows 3G & H
Does it do H+ or doors it not display it ?
Thanks.

Same issue with me it never says H+ whereas my s3 nearly always showed H+. Maybe it doesn't show it but it is using the + data connection?

It doesn't distinguish between H and H+. Some custom ROMs enable it.

The status, in phone settings, should differentiate them.

Notice LTE h+.
Note: H and 3g are the same. H+ is 3.5g

If you go in to Settings, About Phone, Status, the Network Type will tell you whether it's LTE, HSPAĆ·, UMTS, etc.

I think it depends where you live and which network you're on.
For example, in the UK, HSPA was such an improvement over 3g, it was touted as 3.5g. When HSPA+ came out, nothing really changed although some called it 4g. However, others (USA) were calling WiMAX 4g and then LTE was 4g. So what's DC-HSPA?
All the while, the official (yet somewhat ridiculous) classification is 4g = 1 Gbps. Imagine that?!
The important thing is the order of which is theoretically fastest
GPRS
3G
HSPA
HSPA+
DC-HSPA
LTE
Although of course LTE in the UK on EE network is limited to 20 Mbps, which is about what I get on HSPA+. Then again, I assume its H+ not DC-HSPA because I'm not sure if the nexus 5 differentiates between single channel and double channel

I'm on GiffGaff and was in Liverpool today.
On my S3 I'd normally see H+, on the N5 I got H
Where I live I normally see H+, but the N5 has only ever shown H
I'm on the stock ROM rooted..

I'd seen the post saying there wasn't one, but was then confused by the picture posted by mistahseller showing H+

My bad I forgot that non- custom Roms do not have it. My apologies.

hello,
Kind of a noob here... I have an att inspire 4g, rooted and android revolution rom. At home I have what I was told is 3g service (and have an H symbol). When I got to work (out in the country) I have edge service (E). When I came back into town the other night, my data symbol went from E to 3G, not H like it usually did... Now this morning it was back to it's usual H. Can someone explain the difference between these, and is this normal or a glitch in the rom?
Thanks!
Search please...this topic has been discussed so many times around here...
I got your 10 char right here
abso Bacon Mod
I did search on the Q&A portion, seems like I'm not alone on this, but I never found a definitive answer/solution. I did see that the 3g symbol will result in slower speeds than H. (personally I thought the 3g symbol looked cooler than the H though).
It hasn't really affected me at all, and only happened once, so it's not really a big deal, was just curious.

The symbols mean absolutely nothing. You can make the symbols whatever you want them to be. If you want to know what network your phone is connected to, go to Settings-About Phone-Network. The Inspire connects to these networks (on ATT) and corresponds with the following icons:
GSM shows a "G" icon
EDGE shows an "E" icon
UMTS shows a "3G" icon
HSDPA shows a "H+" icon on ATT ROMs and "H" icon on other ROMs
Supposedly the Inspire connects to HSPA+ too, but no one's ever seen this as a network type. Again, you can change these icons to anything you want. See my tutorial in Themes/Apps (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300389)

On my Inspire it's settings-about phone-status-mobile network type (maybe this depends on the ROM?)

Its like "3.5G" not the same because sometimes it'll fluctuate between H and 3G

Hsdpa is commonly referred to as 3.5g. Umts is 3g. Hspa+ is technically 4g but doesnt touch LTE speeds. Hsdpa and hspa+ are designated with either a H or H+ icon...depending on the ROM

Sorry for reviving an old thread but is it normal to keep switching between 3G and H? How come it doesn't make it's mind?
I installed the Kexec Cyanogen Mod recently and its a great Rom, but I have a strange signal. Instead of 3G 4G or Edge(E) I'm getting H, which has terrible speed.
I have tried switching the Access Points and the others either give the same H or no data connection at all.
What is H? And can i fix this? I use AT&T btw

From what I know, H and H+ are the same thing as 3G and 4G respectively on this rom. Since AT&T doesn't really use 4G LTE and is really HSPA+, that's why. Other than that, I don't know about the data speed of the rom.

AT&T have 4G LTE , and many phones that support it but ours isn't one of them, on stock Rom you will see 4G as this US carriers like advertising HSPA+ as 4G even if its not the case. so on Custom Roms like CM you will see H for HSPA+ and regular HSPA , actually for me with my carrier (not in the US) i have great speeds on CM10.1 with HSPA+.

Right, meant to correct that and say it doesn't have LTE support on the Atrix 2, lol. Good job clearing that up.

Just got my nexus 5? Yes. Activated? Yes. LTE? No. Im on sprint and have no idea why my Samsung Galaxy S4 had LTE yet the Nexus 5 cannot get it, just 3G throughout entire area even though my area has all 4G for months. Is there any solutions or known issues as of yet why on Sprint the LTE is not being recognized? Thank you for any help!

Make Sure you change Mobile Network settings to LTE that is what solved the issues with LTE on mine. The Switching only occurs when you make or receive phone calls or send or receive a text message on a tower that has not been updated yet.
Hi all, did a search and found nothing about this so here we go.
First thing's first, I'm on Telus up here in frosty Canada.
First question: Why is that under the Mobile Network settings, where you can change from LTE to 3G or 2G, it says "(recommended)" next to LTE? Is Google trying to say that it's more reliable when in LTE mode?
Second: While using Google Now, on Telus' HSPA+ (3G mode), I get spotty results; it sometimes fails to find a connection even though I *am* connected. Other apps have issues loading as well. However, when I switch to LTE mode, it works fine while on LTE AND if it auto-switches to HSPA+, like at work where I don't get LTE. Would this be an issue with the phone or with Telus?
Thanks!
First, LTE is the most modern and fastest. Its "recommended" so noobs who don't know what lte is know that its recommended or best

Harsh Mr root su! Stick with lte as it's best it's switching to next best when it goes to HSPA+That's the network lack of lte coverage, not your phone

LTE can go faster and have less latency.

All S6 unlocked models support 4G. But I heard that G920i support more popular 4G bands. Someone needs to confirm though!
See if you can update OTA. I updated to the latest firmware and now shows LTE.

I hoe this will clear it up for you http://lmgtfy.com/?q=4g+vs+lte
You need to make sure you have LTE switched on, it looks like your phone and network are compatible
https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-4988
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s6-6849.php
You could just be in an area that doesn't have good 4G coverage though
The 2 phones sitting side by side nexus 6 is on lte (previous phone d801 was on lte at the same spot) the s6 just will not cave in even though in the settings it set to LTE . It is on 5.1.1
