Anyone have luck with game mode miracast - Shield Q&A

I can get it to connect and play for maybe 2 minutes until it starts freaking out and I have to disconnect it. The latency is great up until then. That feature is a very important one to me but it won't work. I know it's in beta but i'm not sure if that's what needs to be worked on or if they just want to reduce the latency more and improve the image quality. I have other miracast devices and they act the same way with the exception of 2 of them. The nexus 7 doesn't work right, i have a galaxy s4 clone and my main phone that work badly.

I used it one night while playing ShineRunner with my wife. I had her screen miracast on the TV so I could help her out. It worked great for about 10 minutes then started acting up and I had to kill it.

I wanted to know the same thing and am shocked nobody has really tested a few devises for least lag and shuttering.
I bought the Actiontec ScreenBeam Pro and updated its FW.
I'd say the lag is minimal and is not my main issue now.
Random shuttering can be a pain. It can vary from a only few times to a lot. At this point it seems to be trigger by some games more than others.
Afterburner with a touch profile shuttered a lot (35% of the time) not sure if it a resource issue with the touch profile or general interference in my room.
I played dead trigger 2 with native controls shuttered a lot less(10-15% of the time)
I had the device less than 5 ft during my tests.
This site has done some basic latency tests a handful of these miracast devices. It seems the Netgear Push2TV (PTV3000) had the least lag when used in a pc environment.
http://data.withinwindows.com/miracast-display-devices-and-windows-81-compatibility/
I think I will go buy the Netgear Push2TV tonight on my way home from work and test it.
Note
Having a game mode on the tv helps a lot with lag. If you stack the lag with the non-game mode picture processing of the tv and the miracast protocol it becomes very noticeable.

It's a good thing I searched the web first before buying a Miracast dongle. Sounds like it's not yet stable for gaming.

More hardware issues...

When lower volume tones play or any audio through speakers that is not loud, speakers have static. Also speaker on left of tablet is quieter than speaker on right side of tablet.
Every once in a great while tablet powers itself off. Or its own apps that are installed by default have FC issues. After it goes into standby, wifi resets itself and takes a minute to reconnect. Wifi signal strength stock is very good!
have not tried headphone jack yet!
Also this is a big one... The built in microphone when recording any kind of audio has a low sensitive volume level. If the tablet is half a foot to a foot away from your face the microphone picks you up and records but the sensitivity is so low when you play it back you can barely hear it. Same goes for yahoo messenger using it for voice or video chat. If you put the microphone hole on bottom of tablet right by your mouth like an inch or so away, then it picks you up good and clear and is audible when you play it back or voice/video chat. Then this defeats the purpose because the tablet is to close to face to use the camera and mic up close at the same time.
Anyone else have these issues on their tablet?
thanks!
any fixes?
P.S. battery seems to drain pretty quickly while in use and also in standby mode probably since the wifi is having issues and not power saving anything. I do not know if this thing can go 8 hours or so watching a movie unless wifi is off and everything else is not running in background!
I'm not sure what the issue may be with your battery but I've had two of these and have gotten nothing but excellent battery life stock or otherwise. I would really look into seeing if something is hung in the background. I just took a flight and watched a movie and still had over 90% left afterwars and most people are reporting the same. One user reported an issue with ' cell standby' milking his battery but I know rothnic removed that in the zpad .3 version rom.
Good luck.

Could be a bad unit. Battery life is great. Sound quality too.
I am so impressed with the power, battery life and sound quality, I will wait & hope for a Tegra 2 phone by VZW.
So then is anyone having the same issues I am with the microphone recording volume being so low???
Yes my microphone blows. Battery is pretty impressive, but I agree the default programs FC a lot. I'm using Dolphin mainly for browsing and it gives me lots of "Error 400."

Yes, mine is the same way.
P.S. Did you get your ViewSonic beta tester T-shirt yet?
Not yet! I would like one though! ViewSonic has gone down the tube like most companys. They use to be a great company with A+ support for their monitors and lcd screens. For a tablet made in china with so many problems that they slapped their sticker on and sold, this is making them look like crap.
I do not understand how apps on android can force close themselves! It means it has to do with memory allocation or bad memory that fails crc issues...
Maybe since the tablet has 512mb of ram and androind 2.2 aka froyo is not made to work with tablets with dual core cpus and an nvidia gpu that apps and there cache+data are getting lost in all the available memory and cannot be recovered so they crash.
For a microphone installed into a tablet you would think it would be more sensitive meaning louder and more volume without over doing it. Also installing speakers correctly at the same exact location on each side inside of tablet. Also equalizing the volume for each one.
Of course I will probably be returning this thing back to staples for two reasons.
1. If I did not own multiple pc computers and laptops this would not work in their place since its so unstable!!!!
2. by the time if they try to get the software right, gingerbread/honeycomb will be out next year. With that os out and about of course the new tablets with dual core cpus and using nvidia tegra 3 or 4 chipsets will be available besides dual core arm processors with dual core gpu chipsets.
400 dollars is a lot of money to beta test a hardware tablet that is not capable of running an older os that does not support it. If out of the box you could play videos, listen to music, browse the web, install apps and they all work, and nothing crashes and the tablet can stay on 24/7 being used or in standby, then this might be worth something. It does none of these things even after using whatever custom firmware and software you can find because the base operating system files were made for phones not tablets or pcs. The crappy apple Ipad works so well because they finally got the IOS to not only support the ipad but to actually run stable under everything even on a tablet which is just a vblown up ipod/iphone.
At least samsung with the galaxy s made it look like a big phone in the hardware arena so all apps work! and its got a great screen!!! To bad its a 7 inch phone hahaha!

Gaming over Splashtop/VNC?

Just wondering if it's doable. Obviously some games would lend themselves better to it than others, and I'm sure online gaming is out of the question.
Still, it intrigues me. So does anyone have any experiences?
tried playing skyrim over Splashtop. was funky. cant see anything if i run or get the horse to gallop. and i had the worst luck... an elder dragon popped up and pwned my ass to oblivion
Why do you think that was? Was it network related (Were you playing it on a local network or was it over the internet?) or do you think the speed of the tablet was what was holding it back.
I've got a preorder for the Prime and, while I've never been on this forum before, common sense tells me y'all might be a little tired of all the Prime threads on the TF101 forum. That aside, Skyrim was basically what I was after, I just didn't want to be greedy and say it outright. That's not to say there aren't a fair amount of other games I'd like to try as well.
well no mater how fast your tab or laptop is there is a slight lag when i comes to high res pictures while remoting. and the key is that even if you are using cable on your pc, your tab is on wireless and most of the time wireless has a lower transmission rate then cable *im using a cheap ass wireless router mind you*
I play City of Heroes via splashtop on my local network it's pretty responsive. The main issues are as follows:
Fulscreen doesn't work, but a maximised window does.
Controls are really tough to approximate using touch.
VNC will never be good enough IMHO, try Splashtop HD.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
I played NFS The Run (offline) using the docked tab and splashtop in my LAN, and everything was perfectly smooth and responsive at full screen.
Gotta try smth online, but I think that the lag would be too much :\
I've played torch light with splash top on a lan, it was very responsive but lacked enough input control to be fully effective, but on easy mode it is fun. The actually game is sharp and fluid, you just need a mouse and I hadn't set one up

I played WoW via splashtop a month ago. Ran an entire heroic from my transformer. Of course this is a novelty and isn't meant for prime time yet. (no pun intended)
I played WoW on mine (lowbie character) a few days ago using splashtop and worked well for just running around killing random animals on a quest. Had to modify my controls alittle bit in game because I was using TF only with no dock.
I got disconnected several times but it was playable enough to pass the time. I was at home, but tethered my TF to my VZW 4G service and my laptop was on my home internet, just to get a better test.
Cool. Sounds like there's been a good amount of you who've tried it with varying levels of success. I only plan on trying this with the dock and a mouse plugged in, so it sounds like a lot of the control issues would be alleviated.
Thanks!

Netflix streaming problems

Owned my shield a couple days now. Laying in my bed and watching netflix is something I do every nite so this problem is quite annoying for me. While watching netflix the buffering dialog will popup quite often, almost to the point its unwatchable. Sometimes I can get thru a whole episode of something and it wont happen and others itll happen every minute or two. I know its not my signal or connection because I have full bars and I have more then enough download speed to handle simoultaneous streaming from several devices. I also have noticed the colors will get dimmer sometimes and then a few seconds later theyll be bright and vibrant again. Almost like the screen is dimming a slight amount. Does anyone have either of these problems with their shield and netflix? Id like to think im not the only one, I would hate to have bought a bad unit, albeit very unlikely thats what happened. Thanks for reading.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.
I've experienced some netflix buffering issues on my shield as well. In my experience it is simply just the wireless connection strength. I have about 50% connection in my basement and speed tests and most things appear perfect (Can stream perfectly too) but netflix will buffer occasionally even though it seems like it shouldn't. Probably just loosing some packets every now and then cause it doesn't happen when in a stronger connection.
As for the screen dimming and brightness this is a known issue and posted heavily about in the main nvidia forums. I'm not sure if the cause is quite known yet and i see it usually when web surfing but it doesnt really bother me much, but would certainly be happy if a software fix is released that fixes that.

Weird, i don't have the screen dimming issue. my screen works fine!

Miracast vs Chromecast

I just want a HDMI dongle for my tv, that I can cast my phone screen to. Mostly so that, I can use a controller and play my phone games on my tv, the phone acting like a mini-console.
-> What will perform better, chromecast or miracast/ezcast? chromecast dongle costs about twice as much, so I just want to make sure it's worth it
-> how good is the performance with either? will i be getting full framerate etc? I have tried several hdmi cable adapters and none of them seem to work for me (yes, even after plugging in power, best i could manage is choppy/flickery performance) so i'm trying to get this as a workaround
any other info i should know? phone is rooted so no worries there
my chromecast runs fine, it have a bit delay, but it's ok.
Miracast works well too.
I don't see any differences.
have you tried it while gaming? i mean some nice 3d games that are using a lot of the phone's power. for example soulcraft ii (it's free). does it affect the quality of the screen sharing?

There is a noticeable lag with the Chromecast. It is very smooth, but its about a half a second behind. I don't think it would be good for gaming unless you are playing some sort of turn based game.
I also have a LG TV with miracast support, but it is unusable. It shows one frame every 10 seconds or so.
I have miracast. It lags too...I don't think it was meant for gaming. Unless it was a turn based one. There is also a slight loss of video quality

Screen Cast/Mirroring Lagging & Jittery

Hi guys, I am fairly noob but I was hoping to get some help.
I currently have a:
Oneplus One
Netgear PTV3000 connected into the Appradio 3.
I am struggling to get mirroring to work without being jittery and laggy. I have tested the PTV with the Samsung S5 and S4 both have nil issues. When I use the Oneplus One there is constant audio skipping and video lag and the phone is slow to respond from the screen of the Appradio 3. I have rooted the phone but it is completely upto date.
Is there something I am doing wrong? Any suggestions as to how I could improve the responsiveness and removing screen mirroring lag? There are no controls for the casting other than connecting and disconnecting.
I have placed the phone on top of the Netgear but nothing seems to get rid of the lag. It is also intermittent sometimes it is flawless other times it is terrible. I have the phone on Performance mode which is 2.5ghz.
Thanks

I found that if I connect through WIFI Direct first manually and then use screen casting there is a significant improvement in quality though some lag still remains.
I use an LG smart TV and its fine, just a little delay as to be expected.
The slight lag is fine it is the constant jittery music which is frustrating. its not interference. its the mirroring. But I don't know if its hardware or software.
So I have figured out why the miracast is lagging on the PTV3000. The data uploaded is reaching peak of about 5-6mbps. By monitoring the bandwidth the lag only occurred when this number was reached. \
