Galaxy S3 on 4.3 with Samsung Custom - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I have rooted many phones but DO NOT consider myself an expert in any way but after countless hours on the search, I am just STUCK And seriously frustrated. Here is my complicated story.
I was rooted but without a custom ROM. In the progress upgraded to 4.3 OTA. Since then my phone has been on the decline...the WI-FI does not turn on, the GPS is erratic, and now I cannot connect via USB to anything.
I have done everything imaginable and suggested to my PC (WIN8) as well as the phone. I cannot connect via ODIN nor KIES as I cannot get the USB to work.
In ODIN Mode I have:
PRODUCT NAME: SCH-I535
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (1 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: Enable
WARRANTY BIT: 1
BOOTLOADER RP SWREV: 1
I would prefer to downgrade although I have read this is not an option at this point.
to have functional Wi-Fi and USB connectivity would be great to have again.
Please help!!!
Is my phone considered to be SOFT-Bricked?

Try a new cable and/or a different USB port.
Also kies3 is required. The old kies will not connect to any 4.3 or higher android device. Make sure you have the latest drivers as well

Also make sure you have USB debugging on. Go to settings and about phone. Tap on the version several timea and it will bring out the developer options.

Go on kies make sure your phone in UNplugged then click connection trouble shoot. Same thing was happening to me on windows 8 so I temporarily went back to 7. It looks like the drivers get messed up if you go from lets say the download mode drivers to the normal drivers. It seemed like every time before I connected my phone I had to do that.

Thanks for the reply and suggestions.
I have tried three different cables, installed Kies 3, two different computer and multiple ports on both systems with all the phone settings as suggested. I now get the following message when connected to the USB cable: USB Device not recognized. Device malfunctioned and Windows (8) does not recognize it. I have removed all software, reinstalled phone drivers.
Sooo frustrating!

Why do you want to connect to kies? It has 4.1.2 it will always fail the flash for us 4.3 people. Use the Verizon updater or odin. Just a fyi kies will never say it recognizes the phone in downloadmode.

My problem is I cannot get the computer to recognize the phone. I have tried using the code to get into Qualcomm PhoneUtils but I guess I am not sure if that applies to my model phone. This would allow me to confirm the USB settings (MTB?) of the phone.
At this point, any connection would be a HUGE step forward.
Thanks for your help.

Yes, the phone is operational; that is to say it makes and receives calls. The Wi-Fi does not turn on and the GPS is very erratic. I have not found any other problems yet, but I am sure that they must be others....

That sucks at least you can make calls. Hope you figure it out. Maybe it has something to do with your warranty bit.

Just one more thought. I know you said you tried everything but did you try a factory reset then on first login when Google asks to import saved data like WiFi settings uncheck the box?

Galaxy S3 on 4.3 with Samsung Custom ** FIXED **
This appears to be the fix to my problems.

[Q] Help Un-bricking Sensation 4G?

So I checked the existing pages about bricked Sensations but I didn't
see any predicaments that were quite this bad let alone a fix. Anyways;
Was updating to newest firmware 3.24 because I was getting ready to flash a
new ICS rom. Updated fine in Hboot, and then I somehow managed to reboot before I could get into clockwork recovery mod. Got caught in a boot-loop so I
pulled the battery to try to get back into fastboot and it wouldn't even turn on.
So I pulled the battery again, held the power button to drain any power and put the battery back in and tried it again. It will not charge, the led will not turn on, and it gets a black screen with the back-light on. Can not get into anything, kinda looking like the internal memory was wiped somehow.
So are there any fixes? Or am I screwed? If so if I call tmobile will they replace it (in the event that everything was wiped)? Any help appreciated!

Well, i am in the same situation with my sensation, it doesn't power on and when connected to the pc it shows up as QHSUSB_DLOAD and the driver was not found auto by windows
i'm going to provide the links to the program and the driver in the thread i started to get the QCN File...
The standard answer provided here in that situation is that your phone is bricked and you need to send it to HTC for warranty reparation...I am going to try to get a DIY method to reflash your phone from scratch (as now it's waiting for a ROM to be download (Qualcomm High Speed USB DownLOAD mode)

When found i can change them into my vars, to try and flash the phone back to life... i geuss it'll be a work off about a week to get everything found in a 400MB file or so

OK well I already have QPST and the QHSUSB drivers downloaded but QPST cannot see my phone. I found something on an LG forum explaining how to get the COM port number from Device Manager but my phone doesn't show up the same way.

Yep
Windows 7?
Open your Control Panel from your start menu and put it on classic view, in order to see the device manager link, open this.
There you will see Ports (COM & LPT)
Unfold this and you will see your device there with a (COMx) behind it
in the QPST configurator you will have a tab with the name: Ports
click this
on the right bottom there is a button: Add New Port
click this, a dialog will open where you can see your ports, click the port which is of your phone, if not seen, just type COMx (x being the number stated in the device manager)
And press OK
As from now you will be able to see your phone on the first tab normally seen
now go to the menu "Start Clients"
SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD
If you see that the port is not correct on top, click the Browse next to it in order to choose the correct port, you'll see it will detect your phone then...
Goto the Backup tab and click browse, give the file a place and name, press start...
Then wait i guess, i am not in the possition to know how long it would take...
Now you have the QCN file made as i need in my post
This is a hexadecimal dump of your phone in Quallcomm Bundle Numeric format, with that we can start figuring out, how to get your serial number, emei etc out, to infuse our own to get our phone back up and running by using the restore function of the QPST program
Clear enough? :s
---------- Post added at 12:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:30 PM ----------
It might also be that due to the fact that your phone is actually a still working exemplar that you need to follow the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1180211 in order to get your phone connected in QPST

Many thanks, i'm gonna PM you with my info (as promissed in my thread)
So I've gone back to ENG HBOOT 1.17 and Telstra stock ROM, Clockwork Recovery 5.0.0.8 and rooted. I have USB debugging on and am in diagnostic mode but I still don't get HTC Diag device or anything like it in Device Manager. I've shown hidden devices in there too.
The only phone related item I have is Portable Device, when expanded it says D:\ (which is my SD card drive in the phone). I tried changing USB mode from charge to disk to sync and every other option but still don't see the device in Device Manager.
Not sure what else I can do here .... Plus it's pretty late and I want to restore my phone before bed. If you can think if anything I've done wrong or anything I can try differently, please let me know and I'll try tomorrow.
No problem man, i know there is a time difference between Belgium and Australia
Have you checked that the phone is in charge mode and not in disk drive mode?

[Q] ODIN, can't connect in download mode, but onnects to switched on tablet

Hi guys!
I can't root my gt10.1 2 ((( When trying to connect it via odin - it shows nothing...
I rebooted device, pc, closed Kies, tried different usb ports, laptop - the result is 0 - odin cant see my device.
The most interesting thing is that odin can see my device when it is switched on
I really broke my brains trying to solve this problem)))
Any ideas???
P.S. Sorry for my bad English)))
odin flash back to stock
i recently succesfully rooted gtab2 p-3113 and lost all my apps including play store. after much searching found your link for odin flash to stock.says successful but my tab will not boot past pulsing samsung logo.please have patience with this noob question. HOW DO I FIX IT ? thanks guys, your threads have helped me succesfully root htc inspire,droidx2 and samsung illusion. your posts are invaluable. thanks again
You pressed volume down to confirm you wanted to enter download mode, right? Also, what OS are you on?
I couldn't get odin to work in download mode on my Win7X64 PC. I had to use another XP PC. Win7X64 works for some people, maybe it's a hardware specific issue.

Unplug tab.
Run ODEN as admin.
Plug tab in ODEN should show it connected.
You need to enable usb debugging, go to settings > developer options > usb debugging
Should solve your problem. Then go into download mode etc...

Agreed.if that doesn't work try to put it in another USB.sounds dumb but I couldn't get mine to connect and it worked for me.I'm pretty sure it has something to do with drivers and if you put it in another USB it will reinstall different drivers.I'm on win7 64 also.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
^I doubt that, if it shows up as a usb device (if you can go to my computer and access the files for both the sd card and device) then its not a driver issue --mine showed up as a mp3 player (???) but it still worked. And then also as others said make sure you right click and run odin as admin. Good luck!
Actually if you dont speak english well i'm assuming you're not from america, I wonder if it could be a problem with a foreign version of windows (just a guess)
---------- Post added at 04:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:01 PM ----------
Actually just thought of this, You say you closed kies right? because for odin to work and programs like odin you need to plug your device in, close kies and then open odin. I think your issue may be that kies isnt actually closing, check your windows status bar in the lower right hand corner, a lot of manufacturer programs like kies dont actually close, they go into "device monitoring" mode. So if you see a small kies icon, right click and close it then open odin...

[Q] Device isn't recognized by the Computer.

Hello everyone!
So, the problem is, when i connect my Nexus 5 into the Computer (via USB cable) the computer doesn't seem to recognize the device...
by "doesn't recognize" I mean not even in Device Manager, The only thing it does is charging up the device.
I tried many things such as:
*Factory Resetting my Device
*Different Computers (one of them is brand new laptop running windows 8.1, another one is normal running windows 7)
*tried to install driver solutions from a Nexus Toolkit
*swapping USB cables / ports on the PC
*Selecting MTP / PTP and plugging / unplugging between
Info:
I'm on a brand new laptop running Windows OS 8.1
My device is rooted and running a flashed zip of Lolipop 5.0
I'm using TWRP Recovery.
I tried looking for a solution in the web including this forum but I can't seem to figure it out.
If by any chance you know the solution to this problem please inform me of it, Thanks alot!

Try going to "settings"
"storage"
Menu. Click the 3 buttons top right under the time (this is the menu button)
"Choose USB computer connection"
Change from MTP to PTP and see if the device shows up in device manager. Then change it back to MTP and see if it showed up in device manager. If it does on either uninstall what ever driver is installed and reboot computer. Then connect device to PC and see if computer recognizes your phone, if it does let it finish installing and browse to device manager and install the USB drivers put out by google here http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html or alternatively use the naked drivers here http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...r-solves-your-adb-driver-problems-on-windows/
I found that simply plugging and unplugging usb while looking at device manager you can find out what usb it is.
Finally if you could not find out anything above, I had an issue where my usb connection was full of lint from my pocket. The cable was not seating properly inside the phone from the lint obstruction. I could not get the USB drivers or my phone to charge properly. It kept disconnecting and I eventually cleaned the phone with a q-tip and a toothpick, sometime the phone connector could bend so you could try to bend it back, mine has been good every since. I'm not saying shove something in it and bend it/break it. I'm simply saying to lightly clean it or pry it up so that it makes a better connection and make sure that your USB is properly seated.

It seems like you've tried all the steps i know of. Have you tried plugging another device into the comp to make sure it's not hardware issue on the comps side? You could also live boot an Ubuntu CD and see if it's recognized with a different os.
the problem is due to win usb generic drivers that doesn't work

follow these instructions then install google usb drivers http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html

Could be the serial bus controller in the comp is bad. If you have a USB stick laying around plug that in and see if the comp detects that. If it doesn't see any external devices its a defective component in the comp.

You seem quick to dismiss an issue with your computer. I honestly believe it is the computer drivers. Even brand new there are pre installed drivers on your PC that could interfere with the Nexus 5. Its possible that its registered in the PC device manager as something other then nexus or under something other then USB or portable devices. I've seen this so many times. Its also possible that the phone or USB are malfunctioning but I don't think you've exhausted all options software wise yet.
my computer is a Lenovo brand, I tried everything i know, if you have any suggestions I will appreciate it alot thanks for helping me so far.

If you have USB 2 and 3 ports, try using USB 2. Short of that, its cables...
Well I tried USB 2.0 ports too it might be the cables although I tried 3 different ones but I'll try to get the one it worked with on another PC...

PC doesn't recognize my Note 5 N920P

I'm having this issue with a Note 5 from Sprint, it charges well and OTG functions as well, but my pc only recognizes on Odin when it's on download mode, help please. It has root and twrp recovery, android 5.1.1. I've already tried the *#080# to change to MTP but it saids invalid MMI.
You could try powering off your note5 and then plugging it into your pc with it powered off. Then boot into recovery and your pc should give you a prompt that it will try to install the correct drivers. Not a 100% sure it will work but you can try it. Also what drivers did you download and install for your note 5 to be recognized by your pc? You could try theese if you haven't fixed your issue yet. Hope this helps.

Sony Vaio on Windows 7 64bits
When you plug your note 5 into your pc what does it display in device manger?
Nothing, nothing pops up, not evern a message saying that drivers couldn't be installed. Thanks for your help, I ended up selling it
Had same issue and would also not fast charge. MTP not being recognised and had to have Sprint replace it. Charge was $75 because I had no insurance but a complaint to Sprint that Samsung would not fix issue that was replicated by Sprint store allowed me to get a $75 credit on account, so a wash. Worth a shot.

Also, FYI i did send it back to Samsung to repair BUT they do not have the actual issue available in their issues dropdown area so they just put issue as "would not recognized charger" Well when repair received device they tested, saw it started to charge and just send it back out without fixing anything. Very frustrating but all worked out with device replacement.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Help!!

Hi everyone, I am a new person in the forums, so please understand if I'm not good at some stuff and if I'm posting this in the wrong place
Well, story is that I found my old Galaxy Tab 2 in my basement after 3 years, and I got it to turn on (no factory cable, 1€ chinese cable). Android version is 4.0.3.
Found a couple of roms in the forums for 6.0, and yes, I've done it before on my phones.
Computer cannot recognize the tab, only says "Unrecognized device", even though I've tried every driver there is to it. Tried kies, no help. Tried odin, no help.
Neither of those detect the tab either, so I rooted it from the tab itself with KingRoot.
Now the tab is rooted, and I tried to flash TWRP to install 6.0.
It says that the recovery is flashed, but when I try to reboot to recovery, it only restarts, with nothing.
It goes into download mode just perfectly, but when connected to the pc, it still doesn't detect it.
I do not have money to buy a new tablet, so I would really like some advice.
Thanks!
hello
go in download mod ( power & vol+ )
go back to origin
use cfautoroot (all needed in it odin + drivers + cfautoroot)
use a new cable
after that install twrp, os ( first cm12.1 )
regards
Hi, will try!
Don't set auto reboot in Odin.
Once TWRP is flashed wait 1 minute and unplug the tab.
Now directly boot into TWRP, else stock recovery get restored on boot.
You should update over OTA to 4.1 or 4.2 if available first, else you'll have to flash a newer bootloader using Odin to avoid graphics glitches at boot.
