[Q] ODIN, can't connect in download mode, but onnects to switched on tablet - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
I can't root my gt10.1 2 ((( When trying to connect it via odin - it shows nothing...
I rebooted device, pc, closed Kies, tried different usb ports, laptop - the result is 0 - odin cant see my device.
The most interesting thing is that odin can see my device when it is switched on
I really broke my brains trying to solve this problem)))
Any ideas???
P.S. Sorry for my bad English)))

odin flash back to stock
i recently succesfully rooted gtab2 p-3113 and lost all my apps including play store. after much searching found your link for odin flash to stock.says successful but my tab will not boot past pulsing samsung logo.please have patience with this noob question. HOW DO I FIX IT ? thanks guys, your threads have helped me succesfully root htc inspire,droidx2 and samsung illusion. your posts are invaluable. thanks again

You pressed volume down to confirm you wanted to enter download mode, right? Also, what OS are you on?

I couldn't get odin to work in download mode on my Win7X64 PC. I had to use another XP PC. Win7X64 works for some people, maybe it's a hardware specific issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1715893

Unplug tab.
Run ODEN as admin.
Plug tab in ODEN should show it connected.

You need to enable usb debugging, go to settings > developer options > usb debugging
Should solve your problem. Then go into download mode etc...

Agreed.if that doesn't work try to put it in another USB.sounds dumb but I couldn't get mine to connect and it worked for me.I'm pretty sure it has something to do with drivers and if you put it in another USB it will reinstall different drivers.I'm on win7 64 also.

^I doubt that, if it shows up as a usb device (if you can go to my computer and access the files for both the sd card and device) then its not a driver issue --mine showed up as a mp3 player (???) but it still worked. And then also as others said make sure you right click and run odin as admin. Good luck!
Actually if you dont speak english well i'm assuming you're not from america, I wonder if it could be a problem with a foreign version of windows (just a guess)

Actually just thought of this, You say you closed kies right? because for odin to work and programs like odin you need to plug your device in, close kies and then open odin. I think your issue may be that kies isnt actually closing, check your windows status bar in the lower right hand corner, a lot of manufacturer programs like kies dont actually close, they go into "device monitoring" mode. So if you see a small kies icon, right click and close it then open odin...

[Q] Odin issues - drivers, etc?

Can't get Odin on a WinXP laptop to recognize the Droid Charge. Same machine does recognize my SGS i9000, though. I'm in DL mode properly.
Any suggestions and pointers (url?) for what drivers to install/update that might help me out? I've already tried samsung drivers for USB from Samsung's site and the Fascinate forums, as well as the drivers that heimdall installs.
I've seen people talk about the Verizon USB drivers, but I haven't found them.
edit: nuts, didn't mean to post this in dev section.

I had the same issue, when you plug your phone in, not in DL mode but just as normal, a drive will open it contains verizon crap and the samsung drivers, install those 1st, then the phone will install when in DL mode
here is the odin you need here
and here is the drivers you need here
a few tips also is make sure your laptop is plugged in, use your original cable that came with the phone, and if your using vista or W7 then right click odin and click properties. Switch to windows XP service pack 3 compatibility mode and save. Then right click again and run as an administrator..
worked first try for me

Hmmm...when I plug in in normal mode, no special drive pops up; that explains why I can't see it. I'll try again. The only time I ever use Windows is for Odin, so I'm pretty rusty with this stuff.

Thanks for the links. I have that version of Odin, but not sure those are the same drivers I tried, so I'll give them a shot.
Okay, got it working.
I had USB Debugging turned on. Turned it off and the Verizon crap drive popped up and was able to install the drivers from it. Was a flakey drive mount though, kept disappearing. Driver install squawked about already being installed, but I said install anyways.
Odin 1.3 didn't recognize the phone, but Odin 1.83 did.
Was able to successfully flash the CWM and voodoo kernel. Wish I hadn't at this point...I got the successful conversion of the fs, but now everything screwed up on the phone. Force closes, apps won't open. Looks like a bunch of reinstalls in order.
Just not having much luck with this Droid Charge. Should have stuck with my Thunderbolt only. LOL

[Q] Can anyone help unbrick my phone...

I tried running Odin to unbrick back into recovery, but apparently didn't have the drivers installed (to my surprise). I hate to say it but I think I've reached the point of no return...any help would be very much appreciated.
Edit: I can't even get into dl mode and I don't have the samsung logo on the screen anymore...just a phone and computer logo.
May be you are not in dowload mode correctly.
For download mode:
1. remove battery
2. connect phone to computer
3. put battery
4. press volume up and down buttons only (no power button)
Try these steps, hope its helpful.
As far as the driver issue is concerned, downloading "Kies" is the easiest way. The phone doesn't actually work with the software, but the process of installing it will take care of any driver issues.
Search Kies in google to grab the download.
Try one click unbrick ^^ it work on mine

That's the thing...odin would be a breeze, but I just can't get the right drivers for odin to id it...so I guess my solution would be to get kies to id my phone so I could dl the drivers and run odin, right? Easier said than done I suppose...
Thanks for the feedback guys, I really do appreciate it...
Don't plug in your phone at all. Open up Kies/Kies Mini or whatever you have, and under the options it should have an option to install drivers. Once they are done, close kies, reboot your computer, open up Odin with whatever you are flashing, and then plug your phone into download mode.

No, the program itself can install them without the phone, at least kies mini will. Or you can just download the driver from here:
32 bit drivers: http://www.mediafire.com/?0b45zo7o75rc5d5
64 bit drivers: http://www.mediafire.com/?3dh4d6up72me9re
It said I successfully dl'ed the drivers, yet nothing has changed...used kies mini, restarted my comp, and tried to sync, but it still can't recognize the phone...hate to admit it, but I think I've exhausted just about every solution I could find or think of :/
get rid of kies. it's a useless program. also if it's open odin might not work, even if it's open in the background like in the system tray.
the drivers are in the most logical place you could think of. on the samsung website under device support.
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c...445/SGH-i997_Infuse4G_USB_Drivers_5_2_0_2.zip
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/at-t/SGH-I997ZKAATT
use the samsung cable if possible, others should work but on the older moment/intercept style phones a specific cable seems to be required. it couldn't hurt to make sure you have the correct cable.
even if you have the phone + computer screen it doesnt automatically mean you are in download mode. you may still need to do the download mode proceedure from battery pull (to make 100% sure the phone is off before you start the proceedure)
the best way is to
1 open odin
2 pull battery
3 connect the cable
4 phone should be face down
5 hold the volume buttons at the same time
6 with volume buttons depressed slide the battery into place
now you may see dwnload or you may see phone + computer or you may even see a black screen but there is a good chance that if the drivers worked that you will see a yellow box in odin
good luck

Get UnBrickable mod. That works well. I use it whenever I put my device into download mode. Just send me a pm and ill do it for $30+shipping. UBM lets you upload download mode to a device regardless of its state. I spent alot of time researching the methods and I came up with the mod for this device not too long ago.
UBM is the best option. Here is a demo on a captivate. We rewrote the HIBL for compatibility with the infuse4g
Thanks for all the help guys, but absolutely nothing I tried was working and I was short on time and patience...so you gave in to the JTAG unbrick service. I couldn't stand to pay for a service that I was sure I could perform myself, but when it got down to it, I didn't have time to deal with I all. I can confirm that it is a legit service. Great communication and Josh does quick work of getting things working again...I'm a firm supporter of DIY, but if you do reach the point of no return like I did, it's a very reliable resource.

Not to be a ****, but I am reporting this thread to the mods and asking them to move it to the q&a section.
To fix your issue, using my odin 1 click (gremlin remover), start the 1-click, then boot into dl mode. If device still isn't recognized, go into device manager right click on the device and update drivers manually. Reboot phone into dl mode and all should be well.
Also once you reinstall drivers or update them, reboot your computer. That always helps the computer recognize my phone when I have this issue. Good luck.

brighter minds than min here, but "one-click" and "odin" are different routes to the same end, aren't they? But if you start with heimdall and that fails, you will likely get the drivers issue when you try odin. I suggest opening device manager on your Win machine and removing all drivers related to the phone as storage device or whatever. Then reboot your machine. When you get to your desktop, open odin (my preferred tool), then with your phone powered down, hold vol-up+vol-down together and connect the phone to your usb cable. Win should find the drivers and load them, and odin should see your phone.
Gonna steal something from lumin30 here.
* * If you have used your phone on every USB Port and/or have no idea where all you have plugged your phone into or used ODIN or Heimdall with - Download [usbdeview-x32.zip] for 32-bit operating systems or [usbdeview-x64.zip] for 64-bit operating systems. Uninstall anything you see that has Samsung and Android related.

Problem during the root of Samsung Galaxy S2

Hi everyone,
I tried to root my Samsung Galaxy following the guide from xda developers (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056334).
I forgot to enable the USB debugging mode on the device (Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging)
I started ODIN, then my device rebooted. I started SuperOneClick and I received a message saying "device not found".
Then I went to check the guide, and I saw that I forgot to enable the USB debugging mode on the device (Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging).
Can anyone help me to fix this?
I'm from Portugal. If I wrote anything wrong sorry for my mistake and for any inconvenience.
Thank you for any help.
Not sure if you're just having problems with Odin recognizing your phone or not but the basics are to ensure you have the phones drivers installed and enable usb debugging. Afterwards you make sure your phone gets recognized fully from your computer once plugging it in. If so you start Odin AND THEN plug in your phone with the directions for getting to download mode (removing battery and holding volume button etc) and in Odin it should show a connection on a com port tile. Then you load up your files and send them. If anything I am sure you just may have a problem by not being in download mode?

Get into download mode and go into keis and start a firmware upgrade and initialization. (you will need model number and serial number behind the battery) and go through the process it tells u to. Then you will be back to stock, then try to root from there the proper way.

You could find a stock ROM first (depends on where you bought your phone / country, provider) and flash through Odin. Unplug your phone from your PC > task manager > kill all KIES apps > turn on your phone into download mode > open ODIN > connect phone to PC
Then ODIN should show your phone is connected with a yellow box, depending on what ROM you downloaded you put the needed file in the PDA box (file with the name such as I9100XWLP7_I9100XXLPS_I9100XENLP3_HOME.tar.md5), click START and wait until that box goes from yellow to green. Phone should reboot now. If it gets stuck, get into the recovery mode (Vol UP + home + power) and wipe everything.

Whenever i try usb debugging to my laptop, i see a yellow caution under drivers... and then i tried uninstalling and reconnecting and re enabling the USB debugging under development in my tab 7.7
Could it be i didnt tick usb Debugging mode when flashing the rom??
ANy suggestions?
Side Note: Widgets like google-my library also not working. It shows a grey big icon thats all..

uninstall everything.
and you have to follow the instruction.
. Uninstall any previous instance of Kies/USB driver
2. Download the latest Kies, specific to your S3.
3. Download Samsung USB drivers 1.4.6.0 (I've tried newer versions but they all failed)
4. REBOOT
5. Disconnect from internet (VERY IMPORTANT!!! - forcing Windows to install local drivers ONLY)
6. With the phone disconnected, install Kies + USB drivers downloaded in steps 2,3
7. Connect the phone and let Windows install the drivers.
8. Reestablish the internet connection.

setup latest kies with latest drivers.
go to download mode, download is not related to enabling usb dubugging from settings (it should be detected in odin normally)
first wipe the data and factory reset in twrp, or cwm first to avoid super brick bug.
flash the downloaded rom as the tutorial steps normally.
